Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

    Help!

? Surgery 1999? Did you have a revision 4 months ago? Anyway; first take a deep breath. Don't worry about the Vitamins right now. If you're that nauseated, they probably wouldn't stay down anyway. You need to fix that first. LATER, when you're better, just get yourself a pill minder box; 7 days with four compartments for each day; Walgreens or CVS; helps you organize the menagerie. Re. dreams; we've probably all had them. My first night of surgery, I dreamt about THE most perfectly grilled cheese sandwich with cheese and tomatoes all the way to the edges! And that was just the first night!! After the EGD, you'll have an answer and the Dr. should have a plan. Trust me, long term, you won't regret this. These bumps are just part of the adventure. Hang in there and update after your procedure.

@@sleevemylife I am in San Antonio TX Low BMI - lapband did not work for me so I am looking forward to stop all the chronic complications I have put myself through by revising to the sleeve.

    Liquid diet

I'm also from Texas, I'm getting a revision Lap Band to Sleeve on Oct 16. My pre op diet is 2 shakes 1 meal and liquids only on day before surgery. Not bad at all ????

    Filled with regret

I am sorry some are feeling so bad and don't seem to know what to do. I will be 4 years from sleeve (revision from lapband) and can share the encouragement that it gets way way better. You won't die from not eating much the early weeks/months Criminy, treat the excess acid! It is an expected event from sleeve and other WLS. Stay hydrated! Dehydration is an awful feeling and if you can't sip sip sip enough to prevent it...get IV fluids! Before you know it, all this will be a distant memory. Keep your eye on the prize!!

    Stomach Sleepers

I will also mention that at 3 weeks out I was completely on my stomach. It was sore but I had too! Revision was 8/31/15
  8. I am having a band to sleeve revision on October 20th. I am super excited and any advice would be welcome. I had an easy recovery after the lap band surgery but my band slipped after a year and I am now getting the sleeve. Thanks in advance.
  9. I am frustrated because I totally want to be obsessive right now and continuously check the status of my authorization for revision. Butttt I have BCBSNC, and I can't seem to find anywhere online where you can do this. *cue violin* hahaha

To Tell or Not to Tell?

I understand how you feel. I told my immediate family and my closest friends when having the band done in 2009 and the same people (except for my dad, cause he has a big mouth and would have told my business to everyone) this past February when having my revision. You must understand that some of your "friends" will tell others (even if you ask them not to), I was judged by 1 of my friends' "friends" (who's opinion I don't care about), and simply told her she doesn't have to deal with the knee and hip pain that I do, and if the day comes when she does then she can talk to me about MY decision then. With the band, it was embarrassing to only lose 30 lbs and then gain 20 of it back within a year; not to mention trying to eat out with them or have dinner and everything getting "stuck". Bottom line for me was the band did not work and I had complications from early on. Ask yourself who you are doing this for, I'm pretty sure it's for yourself . As long as you are happy who cares what others think. Now, as for the inevitable questions: "What's your secret?" or "How are you losing so much weight?" There is no need to lie!! Just simply tell them "Increased Protein, low fat, low carbs and portion control." These are not lies.
  11. Though I have not had my revision to gastric bypass yet, I have been doing a fair amount of research into the procedure. Most importantly is to keep your medical team apprised of your current conditions. They are the best and most reliable source of how to cope with and manage the current issues you are experiencing. They have answers for you beyond what the forum may provide. I also know that we have a "honeymoon" post surgery, and we need to make the most progress with weight loss during that time. When you feel that you are not following your food plan, it is time to get in contact with your NUT also. I hope you feel better fast...

    Looking for friends/support

Hi sorry it's been a while since I've replied! I finally got my insurance approval and will be having a revision to the sleeve on Oct 27th!
  13. I have no shame in saying that I go to OE meetings. They have helped sooo much. Its helps me figure out why I turn to food. Is it emotional is it an actually physically hunger? Plus it put me in contact with people who know what I'm going through and when I'm really struggling with wanting to binge I have someone from group I can call. Just like anything food is a real addiction and can be found so much more easily that your common addictions. I had to learn how to basically re-eat. It sucks and yes occasionally I cheat or slip and have things I shouldn't but instead of a binge on that food, now I have one and then can easily go oh you naughty girl you know this is wrong and just move on. It is hard to change eating styles and learn how to eat properly, but with determination and will power you can really work your revision and lose this weight and have the long lasting effects you are seeking. Rooting for you!

    Gastric bypass and acid reflux

I never had reflux until I had the sleeve. I had such severe reflux after that and was on 5 medications several times a day that this year I couldn't take it and revised on 8/31/15 to gastric bypass. Honestly if you already have reflux I would opt for the bypass. I have no reflux and my surgeon said its near impossible for me to ever have it again. I am off all medication and love it!

    Starving

Help! I'm about 1 week out from my RNY and omega loop revision surgeries. I'm on a puréed phase, but I find that I'm still hungry even after I eat the maximum 3 tablespoons. Is this normal? I'm so worried it didn't work.
  16. I had my sleeve done on 9/17 and I asked for a smaller size sleeve because I am am aware of restretching the sleeve. I was given a 40 bougie with an "oversew" to 36 I am presuming. I wanted and asked for a 32 but he has never done a 32 in his practice, he does 40's. He oversewed it smalller because I asked and asked for a small tight sleeve. Well, I woke up from surgery hungry. I got liquids down from the very start with seemingly no interruption or restricton. So the office told me to wait until I have solid foods- that that would make a difference. So I moved through yogurts and soups- still no restriction. Yesterday and today, I had minced canned chicken and minced canned tuna. Both were 5 ounce cans. Both days I ate all of it with no need to pause and no feeling that I was pushing it. And I still feel like I could eat more but I'm not. I feel like I am starving myself to lose weight. Obviously- I should not have this kind of ability at 2 weeks out to get anything like this amount in. From what I read, 1-2 ounce limitation is normal for this stage. Not 5 ounces. Please advise I am scared SHITLESS that I Will have to go back for a revision surgery when I didn't do anything!
  17. @cowgirlljane you are such an inspiration to me! I am a horse person too and a revision patient.
  18. I had a lapband slip after a year of torture I decided to revise to RNY! I'm day 3 post op and feel great. Still nervous for the future but down 3 lbs after surgery. 5'10 Lowest band weight 180 Revision surgery weight 238 3 days post op weight 235
  19. I had my band removed (after over 10 years!) in Sept 2011; revised to sleeve in Dec 2011. I lost over 150# post sleeve and maintaining. You have received much great advice so I won't rehash that (go back to basics, Protein, track, get hydrated, etc etc) but I will say that sleeve vs band were very very different "sensations" for me. forgetting about the first few months post op - I am talking now over the long haul, they felt different. For me, the band was much MORE restrictive, but I didn't feel satiated. I still felt hungry but i was much more prone to vomiting due to the fickle and intense restriction if I had any fill. It drove bad habits (I started eating easy foods like sliders as opposed to dense protein and veggies for example) but i can see that for some people it REALLY helped them eat less, The sleeve feels less ":tight" - I don't get pain or any of the other sensations but it is more like i get satisfied on a small amount of food. A key lesson somebody told me about the sleeve was to not "seek feeling full". I think that was partially because at that point, niether my brain nor body had any idea what a normal feeling should be! I retrained myself to seek "no longer hungry". That helped alot. The other thing that helps alot is eating moderate carbs and eating according to the "rules". If I go back to eating junky food, my hunger goes way up. If I eat correctly, my appetite is VERY well controlled, even 4 years post op. It is a complicated balance and I guess we are all different.but that is what has worked for me. Best of luck to you - it isn't easy and I think you are so smart seeking help to get on track for your goals.
  20. #5 I started thinking about it 5 months after I started gaining weight and having terrible acid reflux. I had the band removed, but pondering over which revision to do. I'm thinking RNY due to diabetes but I only weigh 215. I'm worried of becoming too thin. Keep in touch! Too thin?when I was 215 I was still obese and I am 5'10".Not a chance.Slim would be nice.

  22. I am nervous and excited as well. I am having a revision from a lap band to a sleeve as well on the 26th. I had my lap band from Dec 2009, and I lost about 59 lbs but wouldn't lose anymore and started to have complications with subsequent fillings. I had it removed in Aug. I can't wait. 23. Hi Guys, My first post on the forums, so please let me know if I'm posting in the wrong place! I'm tentitively booked for Lap Band surgery on Nov 4 with Smartshape in Vancouver, Canada. I've done a lot of research myself, but have found the company to be somewhat pushy for the sale and less eager to supply information about the process, what they provide etc. I know they provide 5 years post op covrage, but so far have had no luck in getting them to provide to me in writing exactly what this entails, under what circumstances and stipulations etc. I'd be really grateful to hear about other experiences with SmartShape, particularly their aftercare support and services and if anyone has ever had any issues with them. I'd also love to hear from anyone else in the Vancouver area who has had the surgery! My only other reservation is that alot of people seem to get the band revised to a sleeve. The band has been "sold" to me as something you can have for the rest of your life, so if you've had a band for many years, I'd lovee to hear your experiences too. Thank you all for your help!
  24. Hi, everyone. I'm new to this site and expect to have revision from band to bypass in Jan / Feb. I'm started the 6 month nutrition on Jun 30 - and just completed all the other hoops except cardiac clearance. My big news is that last Friday, 9.26.2015, I gave up a 50 year diet Coke habit cold turkey. I am 63 and started at 13. The only other time I quit for a significant length of time was for 3 months with the lap band and 9 months with pregnancy. I have decided that this 6 month NUT period is like being pregnant with the new me. Putting me first is new to me, and I am very proud of myself. Looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you!
