  1. I'm doing my preop diet now. Liquids and sf jello for 2 weeks prior. No lb requirement specifically, but I figure to shoot for at least 10 lbs lost which seems to be what most doctors want. It's mostly to shrink the liver, to keep you from gaining weight, or to prove that you can commit to something this life changing.

    Sleeved 3/28..

Congrats DeDawn making it through your surgery. I believe you are on the right path by exercising and taking walks to regain your strength and improve your conditioning that will support your weight loss down the road. I believe exercise and increased activity maximize the results of this surgery and your surgeon will be most likely be pleased to hear that you are doing so. Good Luck to you and welcome to the forum.
  3. Hang in there-- I have gained and lost the same 2# for the past 3 weeks.. I am frustrated .. My biggest problem is lack of exercise. I did FINALLY start a Water walking program AGAIN. Our weather has been soooo rainy, snowy & crappy, they my mobility was the pits.. I was using the stupid walker AGAIN!!!! As I sit here typing I am nursing a Protein shake (and drooling at the smell of my grandsons pancakes.)
  4. I am kinda like B52 , I eat pretty much what I want but I don't want a lot. This past weekend was busy we had a graduation and of course Memorial Day. I ate some Pasta, pizza (mostly the top) and salad, yesterday we had bbq pork, corn on the cob and some chips. all of that is not super health foods but I ate small amounts. I did gain a lb over the weekend but no doubt that will be gone by tomorrow. I am happy this morning , feel like I was not the odd man out at the party . My problem was huge portions and no matter how much I ate I never felt full. So, today 2 1/2 years later I was happy with my small portions and we also had so much physical activity I feel great.

    Gain after new food stage

It's probably not a "true" pound. A lot can contribute. Like did you weight your self with different clothes on? Did you way in the morning vs. at night? Are you going to the bathroom that can cause some increased weight. I think to go up and down just a little is normal. I wouldn't worry. You going great.

    Gain after new food stage

I'm up half a pound after a few days on puréed. But I'm so dang constipated. I don't think a gain is necessarily reflective of reality. You've got fluctuations to fluid shifts, you've got changes to metabolic rate, you've shocked your system. I'm going with all that because it's feeling good to see and feel the weight loss. I'm not feeling either with a bloated belly. Wish I had never backed off on my Miralax. I have some work to do to fix "this".

    I need help

Hi Steve, At 1.5 cc I definitely have restriction and I feel like I'm eating well, making smart choices, etc...it just seems like since I put the weight back on it's stuck to me like glue. I've been working out daily since October and have seen a change in most of my body...everywhere except for my stomach, and I'm hoping that at my appt tomorrow I'll be able to get an adjustment and maybe shake things up a little bit, if that makes sense. I have been writing down what I eat since Oct, which really helps, but I still just feel hopeless sometimes, like I've only accentuated my problems with food. At the same time I know I would have put on a significantly larger amount of weight had I not had this done...and I see results like yours and it recharges me a little bit. I just found this forum yesterday and am really excited about it, and appreciate your input. I plan on being very honest with my doctors and hope they will be honest with me as well tomorrow...after reading through a bunch of posts last night I've compiled a pretty good list of questions for them, so I hope it'll be more informative than in the past...thanks again for replying...
  8. Great topic! I am not banded yet but i am very curious to see how my hubby will act once i lose the weight. He is not a jealous person. I feel like now he doesn't pay me enough attention. I feel hurt a lot of the time. I feel like we don't have the best marriage and our sex life sucks big time. I have noticed since i started eating better and lost 2lbs that he will tell me i don't have to go crazy just yet. Or tell me you can eat that, your not banded yet. Seems like he is already getting in secure. When i met him i was at my thinnest, so he knows what i can look like. I can't wait to see how our marriage changes. Hopefully for the better!
  9. Any suggestions? Been out of town and driving for 5 days, and I am puffy! Of course had my 2 month follow-up Appt. yesterday morning and I was up, not down!! We talked about what I was eating, and she showed me the pitting from the edema. Overall she is pleased with my food log and appearance, but the scale was once again not my friend! Any suggestions for getting this Water weight gone?

    best scale

I bought a Tanita 10 years ago and it is still going strong. I needed a good scale because of my weight at the time. I also liked the fact it had 5 different memory slots so multiple people could use it and it will remember your last weigh in. quite expensive but it was worth it. http://www.amazon.com/Tanita-HD351-Digital-Memory-Function/dp/B0000U6F2M/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1370022277&sr=8-11&keywords=scales+tanita

    Clothing Swap?

I swear by Goodwill. I think I've re-bought my wardrobe about 6 times & I could have never afforded it without Goodwill. You will probably be dropping to a new size ever 4-6 weeks, so I don't think investing in new, high quality clothes would make much sense until you are around your goal weight.
  12. To those of you who have had the band removed: If I have my band removed, will I be back to normal or will there be always lingering effects of being banded? I've had my band for 8 weeks now and have called or seen the doctor and other doctors too many times to count. I've had many of the usual tests, five different drugs (with horrible side effects), and so many complications. I want to have the band removed so that I will feel like I did before. I have no fill now, but am scared of food and disappointed in the way of life for a bandster. I know we are all different, but I will just say that for me, life is not good. I am so thirstyl I want to take a nice long drink of cold water so badly. If I am going to diet, I want to eat fruit and vegetables- not mashed potatoes and gravy. I have to put sauces, creams, and gravies on just about everything I eat to get it to go down without so much discomfort. I want to eat like a normal person. I vastly misunderstood the band. I thought that I would be eating smaller meals and feel satisfied. I did not know that I would have to chew food to the consistency of vomit before I swallowed. I knew I would eat slowly and said that was fine with me because I am the slowest eater -ever. I didn't understand that slowly meant newborn baby bites and eventually eating cold food everytime I ate. I'm not really losing -I guess because I am not hydrated and not eating enough protein. can't help that, I am doing all that I can tolerate. I've decided that I will give the band 6 months and then make my final decision. The problem for me is that I will be letting my family down. I know that I will probably not ever be able to lose weight in my lifetime now. I had such high hopes, but now am depressed all the time. I am not myself, not happy -ever. I hate this thing inside me. I hate that I'm in a situation that I can't control. I hate life. So, I hope that those who are mean-spirited will not answer my post -I am looking for those who have taken the band out -not those who have pent up anger and hostility and use message boards' anonymity to purge their demons:) Thanks in advance.
  13. Wanted to be sure all of you bandsters or those of you interested in learning about bands were aware of the NW Weight Loss Conference in Portland OR 10/28 through 10/30. Check it out here. Dr. Emma Patterson will be speaking and Sandi and Gloria of Banded Living will be conducting a table talk and presenting a break out session. Look forward to meeting some of you there!
  14. Hi everyone! I have been creeping around on this website for some time now and I am finally going through the steps to have the procedure done. I just got my call today to schedule my surgeon appointment for the last visit before I get approved. I have been overweight most of my life, but I have been really packing on the pounds since I had my son in 2009. My highest weight was 284 when I was pregnant and I am currently at 267. I did lose all my baby weight that I gained during pregnancy, but then I have gained some of it back and I do not want to gain it all. I have tried all the different diets, I exercise, and I can usually lose some weight, but then I find it all again along with some extra. I am looking at the procedure to be the tool I have always been looking for to help me stay on track with my diet adventure and exercise. I am so impressed with all the success stories on this site and can only hope to be one of those one day and be able to help someone else make the decision to have this procedure done to help improve their life and health like you all have for me. I started a blog to keep track of my journey for myself and to maybe share with others like me in the future of meeting my goal. You are welcome to view my blog and comment with any encouragement along the way or tips if you see I am doing something in the wrong manner. I hope to be able to join the June bansters soon. Lap Band AFTER Gastric Bypass

I know someone who has done that. It's working for her. She is losing weight again.
  16. Has anyone out there ever had gastric bypass? If so, can you have the lap band after if you have gained some of the weight back. I had gastric 5 years ago and have since put on 40+ pounds and wanted to know what my chances of having this surgery would be. Any comments?
  17. I think your weight loss is right on track. I agree with the post about varying your calories. That is suppossed to trick your body into burning more fat. Keep up the workouts and it is sure to pay off. Good luck!
  18. In a week from today I will be 3 months post op and I have only lost about 26 lbs (6 lbs pre-surgery). I do not regret having the band, and even just the improvements in the way I feel are satisfying, but I honestly did not think that it would be so slow going. I am doing 30-40 minutes on the elliptical machine a minimum of 5-6 days a weeks (usually walking the other day or two) and I am journaling everything I eat and most days average about 800-900 calories and 60-90 grams of Protein. I feel terrific; I have energy, I am sleeping well, my color is good, BUT why am I not losing more? I did not lose anything the entire month of December but I felt that was a victory since my history was to gain over the holidays. Since 1/1/1, I have only lost 3 pounds and I am finding this very frustrating. I have had 3 fills and with the last one I did start to feel some restriction. My surgeon told me that at this point I should not have to write everything down, I should be able to rely on my "full" feeling, but I know that I can eat more than 4 ozs at a sitting so I am being very deligent about weighing and measuring right now. I also took measurements at the beginning of my journey and while I have lost about 15 inches overall, I have not lost any more inches since the beginning of December either. Has anyone else experienced this? I am hoping that if I just stick with what I am doing the pounds will have to start dropping off, right?
  19. Another thing to keep in mind - you may not be losing weight but you may still be losing inches. Measure the following locations and measure them once a week to see the changes (it only takes about 4 minutes to measure all of these spots): Neck Around the chest (widest part) Around the chest (under breast for women) Upper arm (always the same distance from the elbow crease) Forearm (same distance from elbow crease) Wrist Waist (narrowest area) Waist (at belly button) Hips (widest) Hips (at the dip, if you have one) Thigh (same distance from the crotch or back of knee) Calf (same distance from the back of the knee) Ankle You may not notice changes in all areas, but on those weeks where you have no weight loss you will very likely lose a half inch, an inch, or more. One final note - women gain between 5-10 lbs every month due to our cycles, so if you don't lose this week, you may lose a lot next week. If you're tracking you'll see these fluctuations. And even women who are going through menopause or who have gone through menopause will have fluctuations though they'll be a little smaller in the 2-4 lbs range.

    Sleeve weight loss

Adding to what Babbs has said, some don't lose any the first couple of weeks (could be water weight...), so don't be surprised if this happens to you. It WILL come off, if you follow your prescribed plan. All the best to you.....

    Sleeve weight loss

All I can say is that I have lost 50lbs since February 9th 2015. Everyone is unique with his or her weight loss. Just know, it will come off
  22. I am 5'0" (60 inches). I was taking my measurements and my hips were 60" and I thought "oh my God I'm square." Decided I would go on one last weight loss journey.
  23. My body ate my thyroid up in 1993 and for the past 22 years I have been overweight and adding every year. When my last son was born (he weighed 13llbs) I swore I would lose weight as he was going to be the last child (I have four sons) - I was NEVER going to go through that again lol. Anyway, I would lose weight, put it back on, lose weight and put it back on blah blah. My knees hurt, my back hurts and I can’t paint my own toenails Like @@ShrinkingPeach, I remarried nearly 4 years ago after being with my first hubby 25 years. My husband is totally different than my first, he’s very supportive and encouraging and watched me lose 85llbs in 2013 to only slowly put it all back on. I want to be around with him for a very long time and to be able to do the things he loves to do too, which my weight (and mind) has always hindered me from doing. So in 5 days I am being sleeved Autumn of 2016 we will be flying to Canada and having 3 weeks traveling Alberta and BC, on a Harley. Kate

    TMJ???

I had the sleeve done in August and I was doing well then I had a gallbladder issue. I just had my gallbladder removed in January and now I had pain in my left ear and popping of my jaw on the left side. I went to the doctor and they said it’s a slight case of TMJ. I don’t have chronic pain it’s only when chewing or trying to eat and it happens frequently. I’m scared I’m looking up everything online and everyone is saying you may need your jaw wired shut or surgery for the TMJ. I wanted to see if anyone had this problem after their weight loss. I am bad at taking my vitamins now I’m scared I screwed something else up. Has anyone had an issue? I am seeing a chiropractor on Monday and and oral surgeon next Tuesday. My dentist said the oral surgeon will take care of that.

    Weight Loss is So Slow!

I realize you've probably heard this before, but it bears repeating. DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO ANYONE. Those 17 pounds are 17 pounds you weren't able to lose before. A slow, steady weight loss is not a bad thing. Hang in there!
