Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Another 2.7 miles tonight. I feel great. There were 3 of us walking, all banders...we agreed that walking with someone else is so much easier than alone and being able to talk about what is or is not working for us and sharing in the SV & NSV. We plan on heading out again Sunday morning. I haven't done any other types of exercise, but am happt with the walking. I have my exercise ball and will go an dbuy some resistance bands and gonna start working on my arms and mis section..... Want to look my best for my nephew's wedding 5/18. fist time i have seen family since late January...... The positive comments from my co-workers are a definite NSV. I guess the word got out while I was out of work for thoise 3 weeks. That is ok. because that also gives me extra incentive o be on task with my eating at work!!!!! Thinking positive +++++ each minute, each hour, each day is one more step to a healthier life.

    Most Unusual NSV ever

So I'm in the shower last week, soaping up as usual. I feel an egg-sized cyst where my upper ribs and right breast meet. It's not too hard, and I can move it with my fingers. I'm alarmed only because of it's size and location. I just may be the luckiest bandster in the world because my wonderful surgeon (Dr. Woody Denham) is five blocks east of my condo, and he's affiliated with the same hospital as my internist and OBGYN. Fun fact - I was born there 45 years ago :w00t: Anyhoo, his staff heard the fear in my voice (near the breast, 45 years old, etc) and asked me to come in as soon as I dried off. One hour later, my dear surgeon assured me that I had a harmless lipoma (fatty cyst) that has most likely been there for years. No link to obesity and quickly removed with one afternoon off work. Reason I felt it? Rapid weight loss :tongue2: It's weird, scary and fun all at the same time! Love to all - Jill

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

More NSV congratulations. Me too. I wore a pair of pants to work yesterday, only the 2nd time I had them on. I wore them 4 1/2 weeks after surgery and they felt pretty good. The other day, 6 weeks pot op, I felt like I was loosing them all day. So off to the clothes swap pile. Fenton - such an eloquent PB description.... A feeling we all will never forget. I find if I do not eat several small amounts throughout the day I tend to eat too fast. So luckily I have string cheese, yogurt, protein bars and some protein mixes at my desk. Just keeps the edge off during the day. And I am able to keep within my guidelines for intake.. Walking has been a great incentive for me, Have been walking with a local group, Delaware, and try to go as often a possible. we manage 2.7 miles in around 50 minutes. That I feel it a great NSV in itself. Getting through the path and not huffing and puffing all the way. I am with the others, this site is a great benefit and inspiration to my lapband journey to a healthir life.

Once again, the Shamrocks have come through for me! I can't tell you how much you guys have helped me:) I wish I could have read all of your encouragement and support yesterday before I went to class and work.. It was a bad day for me, and I'm so glad it's over! I don't have bad days often, but when I do, the sh*t hits the fan:( On a better note, I decided to let the whole thing go.. It's a petty situation that IS NOT going to bring me down. To each is own, and if my sister is bothered by my having WLS, I hope she can talk to me about it like an adult, or just plain old get over it.. I am an easy person to talk with, and she knows that- She's always calling for my support, and I will continue to give it. Maybe sometime she can find it in herself to return the favor. Anyhoooo.. Enough with that and on to my second NSV!! My wedding rings almost fell off last night while folding laundry. I literally caught them as they were coming off the tip of my finger! They have been loose for some time, but I didn't think I was in any danger of them coming off?! I brought them to the jeweler this morning, was sized, and my rings went from a size 8.5, to a size7! yay! What a strange NSV lol.. Also I wanted to share that I am super excited to have my bike permit now! It is something I have wanted to do it for a long time, and finally got the courage to do it. I was raised around motorcycles my whole life, and can't wait to be riding on my own. Thanks to my Dad, I'll be riding on a 95 Sportster, until he sells it from under me. Literally. lol Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend~ Kerri

    Share your NSV's!!!!!!!!!!

Yippee, I've got another NSV today! This is my second one, I'm to excited. I went to the store yesterday and was walking past the Juniors Department, they had all these beautiful bright spring/summer colors so I started browsing. Low and behold I ended up buying 3 sundress and a tube top all size XL (Juniors). Talk about feeling great I'm on cloud nine. To me it means I will soon be out of the plus size for good. Granted everything had a little elastic but I'm on my way.

  8. OK...it has been awfully quiet on this board lately. I miss my Nymph friends. I love reading about all your successes. So...how are things going? What have you been up to? Are you enjoying the beautiful weather? Especially in New England. How has your weightloss been going? Any NSV moments? Just plain anything to talk about. Things going pretty good here. I am on a small plateau but happy with my weightloss. I cleaned out my closet this week and had 8 bags of clothes that don't fit anymore. I have finally hit the lowest size in my closet (size 24) which means I need clothes. I have been buying a few things but still waiting until more weight comes off. I tried on a size 22 bathing suit because I am going to do Water aerobics at the "Y" and I looked pretty good. I got it home and was jumping up and down to see how things would work while in the water and to my surprise the girls found their way out of the bathing suit. Needless to say I do not want to put on a show at the "Y" for everyone. LOL! So I returned the bathing suit in search for a more respectable one for water aerobics and to save myself more embarrassment since the pants falling down episode. Would love to hear some stories from my Nymph family! Tag...your it. Cindy

The only thing that was seller for me on getting the LB was the statistics. something about people who have lost weight on their own only have a 10% chance of keeping it off; and with the LB there is an 85% chance of keeping it off. Fenton, you are doing great and I hope your brother will take your NSV and weight loss as an inspiration, because it is to me. When I am feeling down or annoyed with my LB I always like to read your comments to others and it makes me feel much better.... :crying:

    April 2008 Exercise Challenge

TG, Thanks for the advice about iron levels. I go in a few weeks for checkup so i'll get that checked. Today's my hubby birthday so no working out for me. You're having a good week getting your hours in. Congrats on the NSV. I read your thread. That is exciting. I don't like the new format either. I finally figured out how to see the threads I read. For the next two weeks I'll be traveling. Ugh

ROTFLOL!! Remember in "Friends" when Joey found his hand-twin? Well, Diva, I think we're arm-twins! :cursing: But seriously, did you say you ate 5.5 (bunless) hotdogs? Or was that a typo? I finally have my first NSV to share: I went back to the gym for the first time since surgery, and after my workout, I was able to stretch much farther than before because I have less belly in the way!!

    Non-Scale Victories!!

Another NSV - this week is getting CRAZY! I saw my 4 year crush yesterday - and his mouth DROPPED, he could not keep his hands off my side/waist, hugging me, ect - it was so so so cute. Kept saying how good I looked, how healthy I looked. Granted he would flirt with me at any weight but I had not seen him in 45 lbs! ahahahahah That was my dream come true! 1 crush down 1 more to go! hahahah

Lynn, you can't let yourself sweat plateaus! They're going to happen, they're a natural part of weight loss, and while the weight may be staying the same, you're still losing fat. You have to keep that in mind when the needle becomes lazy, and focus instead on NSV's. Like how good you feel, or a suddenly useless belt! My brother's overweight too; I'd like him to get a band. I didn't say that Tuesday night, but I talked about how important it is to lose weight, and how the band is pretty much foolproof. He didn't say anything about the bread; he had the same amount of bread as I did, but he had a bass ceviche appetizer and then a big steak entree, while all I had was half of a crab entree. I'm going to work on the band idea with him next week. He's one of these high-powered businessmen, huge salary, millions of dollars in bonuses, and that's all very well, but it comes with huge amounts of stress. I think it might be hard for him to take a week off to get banded. He's talking about going back to the famous medical weight loss center where, after his last visit, he lost 60 pounds. But statistically, supposedly, when you have more than 25 pounds to lose, it's almost impossible to keep it off without surgery.

    April Avengers - NSV!

Here's another NSV to add to the list. I realised last week that I wrapped a regular-sized bath towel around myself after a shower and it covered everything.:hurt: Granted, the boobs are still in the way of being able to tuck it closed, but no more flashing the kids with an extra 2" of flesh hanging out! Woo hoo!! -m

Oh, I had a good NSV today! I discovered that my belt, straining to cinch me in 2 and half months ago, needed to be tightened another notch! And, when I went to tighten it, I discovered that I've used up all the holes! It is dead to me now! My lapband killed my belt!

hello all... Fenton congrats on your NSV - I've noticed that my slip-ons slip on a little more easily too. I would like to thank all of you for your encouragement and your advice. I'm not sure where I'd be without this site. I did eat one of the candy bars, but I gave the rest out, in pieces, to my students. They were so thrilled, and supportive. They knew I wasn't supposed to have candy, and how hard it was for me to give it up, so they worked extra hard to earn it. I know many of you have kept your surgery a secret, but I've told everyone I know. I need the support... I need for people to watch me and comment and criticize when necessary, it makes it harder to justify when I do things I shouldn't. I'm just going to come clean to you as well... because I know I want to tell. Did I eat all the chocolate... no! But instead, when my dad offered to take us out to eat last night for my birthday, did I do the right thing??? NO ~ there I was eating fried shrimp and french fries!! Just like before. I didn't even feel guilty. I do now! I'm praying that the doc will give me fill tomorrow and help me get back on the path. I really want to do this! :tt2: Even more... I need to do this. I"m stronger than this ~ or am I? **sigh**

    NSV Goal Poster Board

A while back I was encouraged to print pictures of things I wanted in life (new home, new car etc) to keep me on track with my finances. I thought this idea would be great for NSV's. also. Does anyone else have this? I've printed some pictures from yahoo of things I look forward to being able to do again or do for the first time. I'll tape them to a poster board and hang it somewhere I can see it DAILY to remind me during the hard times, that thin will feel good! Things like going skating again, swimming, to the beach, horse back riding, go carts, etc.... It will be fun to add more and then take aways as I can do them!! Anyone else doing this?

    April Avengers - NSV!

Congrats on all the NSVs!! I'm one week post-op today and yesterday I wore a pair of pants I couldn't get on the weekend before surgery! I see my doc today and am anxious to see what I've lost! I don't really care that much because my clothes are fitting again. What a relief!!!

Fenton, that really is a great NSV! Congratulations, and I also can't wait to read your book although it will be a little while. I'm in the middle of a 6 book series by Diana Gabaldon. I had a set of resistance bands about 10 years ago and they really worked. I'll have to get another set.

Nice work, HopeinApril! Maybe even more on the shirt tuck than the further two pound loss... ! I really like reading other people's victories - I kind of feel that whenever any one of us loses, or has an NSV, we all share in their victory, because it validates what we're doing. It's proof that if you eat right, exercise and listen to the band, the process works. I had a weird NSV today: I'm not a slipper-wearin' dude. Indeed, unless you're a lord in a drafty Scottish castle, I think men wearing slippers is kind of sissified. But I didn't want to walk around the hospital in bare feet during my admission, so I bought slippers online. But when they arrived, I could barely wedge my feet into them; in the end, it didn't matter, since the hospital gives you disposable socks with those stripes of paint on the bottom for grip. ANYWAY! So today my housekeeper left my slippers out by my bed, and they looked so cozy sitting there that I thought, "Hmm... these may be too small, and make me sissified to boot, but I'm going to try them on!" And my feet slipped right into them, and there was so much space that my toes almost felt lonely - truly the first sign of sissification! SO that was nice. If a little dainty.

    Non-Scale Victories!!

Yeh, that is a man thing, my husband walked by me at the desk yesterday and started shaking his head. I said "What" his response,: "your face is thinner and you makeup looks good." Well same makeup, no change there so I must look thinner in the face at least. Still waiting for my size 18 to start to fall off so I can buy 14's or 16's. ONE day at a time. So glad to hear all of you sharing your WLS/ NSV, it shows solidarity and the best support we can give each other. Off to plant trees in back yard, have a great day! Local Tree frog

    140 lbs!?!?!?!

To get to my ideal weight, I will have had to have lost 170 pounds. Seems very overwhelming but the band is an awesome tool. Nothing like being on a diet and deciding to stop, because you can't. I had surgery just over 2 months ago and the first almost 50 are gone! I get on these highs from so many NSVs that it doesn't feel so overwhelming any more. Try not to get caught up in the numbers and enjoy the ride!

clothes don't fit like they used to?

2 weeks ago I tried on my denim skirt and my jeans which were both too tight across my bum enought to be uncomfortable. Whilst I didn't lose weight those two weeks, I must have lost bulk as I fitted into both! So that's a NSV for me! But yes, I have lost 13kg (28.6lbs) and some of my old clothes that I still barely get away with definately look better on me now than they used to. In fact they probably look all wrong as they are so big! I have bought a couple of items of clothing, but I have a wardrobe full of clothes that I have kept 'just in case I lost a few kilos' that should now fit. I can't wait to buy new things in a size smaller than I can remember!
