    Gallbladder sludge-Surgery???

Thanks so much for responding. I've done research online and have read both what you wrote above and what 2bsmaller18 wrote. From what I can tell, if I had stones and regular attacks, I should be planning my surgery asap. Everything I've read about just sludge and a few irregular pains (not having full blown attacks) says to wait and watch. I also read there are medications that can help but my surgeon only mentioned the surgery. Of course, he's a surgeon, that's what they do! So I really appreciate your input. For me, with what I've experience SO FAR, surgery seems extreme. Certainly if it gets worse, I'll do what I have to do. I'm mostly concerned because my husband and I have a much awaited trip to Hawaii in 10 days, with my new 175# figure. My husband thought of cancelling the trip so I could have the surgery but I think I'll eat very low fat, as I was doing before the holidays, and worry about this after we get back. Hopefully this will be ok. Thanks again!
  2. So its been a complete week since my surgery and I am feeling okay just had a couple questions and want to see if anyone else is going thru these symptoms.... 1) I been drinking protein, water, broth and it was pretty easy for me to drink and keep it down. i just don't really feel full so i don't know when to stop drinking...i usually just stop myself when i feel i had enough but maybe 20 mins after ill feel thirsty again. also i been feeling less satisfied with just liquid i been feeling hungry 2) i been having this numb/sleeping pain on my left leg and i feel it every time i lay down to sleep or sit down to rest. i went to ER to make sure it wasnt a blod clot they no that it might just be the way i was strapped up during surgery so yeah still feel it just dont know what it is!!! 3) last thing constipation sucks!!!!! any tips on how to avoid that? that's the biggest thing i been suffering from i would say! thank you and let me know if you're also starting your journey this month or last month i want to connect with others to see how they are doing
  3. Had sleeve work done on 12/19. Went in on Jan 2 for follow up and got admitted again for clots in my lower lungs. Doc says it happens in every few hundred patients. On blood thinners for 6 months, but it stopped me from going back to work as early as I had counted. I feel fine except I get tired easily, but no pain or sickness. Feeling a bit guilty about whether I should return to work before the 6 weeks are up. I know many don't take that much time, but many of those dread staying home too. I'm 64 yoa, I figured I probably earned it.

    January surgeries?!

Very important - please be advised if you haven't seen this already. Alex Breacher just posted an Alert since you mentioned you have surgery with Dr. Almanza on 1/21. He has two posts on the forum for notification. ______ On January 9, 2019, The CDC issued a Level 2 Alert about Drug-Resistant Infections at Dr. Almanza's Grand View Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico. The Mexican government has closed Grand View Hospital until further notice: Key Points Recently, some US residents returning from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, were diagnosed with infections caused by an antibiotic-resistant form of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. All of the travelers with this particular infection had an invasive medical procedure performed in Tijuana. Most (but not all) of them had weight-loss surgery. About half of those infected had their surgery done at the Grand View Hospital. Based on information provided by the CDC, the Mexican government has closed the Grand View Hospital until further notice. CDC recommends that travelers to Tijuana, Mexico, not have surgery at the Grand View Hospital until the Mexican government can confirm that the drug-resistant form of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria is no longer there We urge all BariatricPal members to stay far away from Dr. Almanza and Grand View Hospital.

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Recipe: gosh, this is tricky, mostly coz all my good ideas are from others here on BP. My favourite breakfast is: 100 gm nonfat Greek yoghurt 8 red grapes 8 blueberries 10 gm granola 1 cap of sugar free syrup All mixed together My goto easy lunch or dinner: In a pan with 1 tsp oil, stir fry: - Cabbage sliced up into thin strips - A couple garlic cloves crushed or chopped finely - some mange tout or green onion or zucchini sliced up Cook until soft, then remove from pan with slotted spoon. Then in same pan, stir fry some prawns or scallops for a few minutes with a shake of garlic powder, a shake of onion powder and some salt and pepper. Add the cabbage back in, toss, then serve and eat! Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

    18 months out and struggling!

Hi HealthierMe193 I’ll be 3 years post surgery on the the 14th of this month and still maintain well. Things that have helped me: - Delay breakfast. Most days I don’t eat to 10 or 11am. I feel this shrinks my stomach and when it comes time to eat I can’t eat too much. - I go easy on the carbs. I still love my carbs but I try not to eat too much. I’ll have toast in the morning and then reduce carbs during the day. - I mostly snack on protein and a little fruit. - I watch those sliders! I’m still a sucker for chocolate and most days I’ll have a couple of pieces to control my cravings. But I’m careful not to eat too many calorie dense nibbles, things that don’t feel me up. - I’m careful not to graze too much Although I still have my bad days, and when I have them I accept it and I become very disciplined so I don’t completely full off the wagon. Also in regards to determination, my surgery gave me amazing results, I’m so terrified to go back to my old body. I buy nice clothes and to be honest I’m really happy with my reflection and I feel healthy. Even 3 years later I still enjoy the simple act of putting on jeans and a t-shirt rather then a hole heap of layers. The thought of going back to my old me keeps me motivated. Good luck on your journey, I hope you get back on track soon.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I use MyFitnessPal. I was sleeved on Dec. 20th. I lost 10 pounds on the 2 week pre-op diet and only 9.6 pounds since surgery. I think your 18 lbs is fantastic. I don't know why I am losing so much slower than the rest of the folks here. I think it because I rarely get in 600 calories per day and not nearly enough protein. I try each day but I can only eat what I can eat you know?

    Anyone from Canberra

I know this is an old thread, but I'm interested in chatting with people in Canberra. I'm having gastric bypass surgery in Washington DC in February 2019, and I will be moving to Canberra on a long-term basis in September 2019. I would love to participate in a local support group (if one exists) and I would also like recommendations on a doctor for my follow-up appointments in Canberra.

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Day 10) on plan recipe! This is probably my all favorite. It's a crustless taco pie! It really hits the spot when I'm craving nachos or tacos. I omit the salsa and green onion since my stomach isn't a fan these days. It makes 8 slices, my portion is 1/2 a slice! Two meals from one slice isn't bad right? So 177 calories for 3.5 oz (because I also weigh everything I eat) can't get more than 3.5 oz in without feeling overly stuffed.. feel free to add protein powder to the liquid mixture if you want/need to up your protein. I did a few times with my unflavored isopure and no one noticed! https://pin.it/njggt7tn3uejtk Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

One more thing...hair loss is one of my biggest fears next to loose skin. Most bariatric multivitamins I've seen have a good amount of these things already. Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

I just booked our 11 day cruise for December 2019 to celebrate our 35th anniversary. I LOVE planning shore excursions, reading about ports (this time Cartagena, Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire, Grand Cayman) and it drives my husband over the edge. I do a spread sheet for our wardrobes (including shoes, bags and accessories) and he is not allowed to take Harley Tshirts anything without my approval. I really enjoy it and can't wait already.

I Was Amazed When I Heard This

I was sleeved 10/15 and have had absolutely zero issues. No dumping, no extreme soreness, no sweats.. no complications at all i eat tons of protein, steak, pork, chicken, turkey, fish- you name it. I stay as close to zero carbs as I can. I operate on 800-1000 caps a day. But it’s picking I can eat a 6oz steak, but it literally takes 2 days- small bites, chewed well, but my body doesn’t reject it lol I drink min 120 oz of water a day. 4 thirty ounce yeti cups over 18 hours. The first week it was hard to get a sippy cup down, but once the swelling subsided, it was game on This morning I officially lost 100 pounds. (Actually 116). Weight day of surgery was 381, today it is 261. 116 pounds/87 days=1.3 pounds a day and no stalls. So to those who say the guy was wrong or what ever, it’s his body, his procedure, his ass if it doesn’t work. I’m kind of doing the same thing. So far, I think I have a handle on it.
  18. I am 14 days out and am feeling pain in several incisional sites but mostly where the biggest one is? It wasn’t bothering me before until 10 days post op? Is this normal? I am about to run out of pain medication and am feeling really concerned? Could I have over worked things or is this just normal for this surgery?
  19. I am so thankful for the continued weight loss after my bypass. I measure in 10 pound increments. Out of the 190’s and into the 180’s!

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Missed the last 2 days but here we go: Day 8 - My fitness plan was just walking on the treadmill I have at home and I was walking 50 min a day. I now signed up with BeachBody On Demand and and starting the first workout today, I'll still try to add some 30-min walk every other day though. Day 9 - How I'm keeping on plan, meal prep is major for me. I haven't done it this week because I worked everyday last week but I have a bunch of healthy stuff I ordered from the Bariatric Pal Store so I'm not making bad choices at all, I will prep this Sunday and already have my meal plan for the week so I'm pretty excited hahaha...going grocery shopping tomorrow. Day 10 - On plan recipe. My meal plan for next week will include a ricotta bake that is delicious. Recipe is attached...I make it all in one small rectangular pyrex and divide into 7-8 pieces totaling 120-150 calories each and 12-15 grams of protein...I use everything fat free and add vegetables (shredded zucchini, butternut squash) and it quicks it up a notch. October 2018 Sleevers

3 month surgiversary yesterday (10/8) and I'm down 40lbs since surgery day, 70lbs overall! I've been really frustrated with being in my second stall for the past 2 weeks, but I have to keep telling myself to just stick to the program. I'll admit I haven't eaten the best, but I have my head back in the game and I remind myself that this is a lifestyle change and not a diet. I started working out again, so itll be interesting to see what my body needs in terms of consumption as it adjusts. Most of my protein comes in the form of gene pro unflavored protein powder in diet tea (57 calories/ 30 grams protein) Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2019/01/weight-loss-essay-tomlinson/579832/ Interesting but also a little curious - I think he nails the sensation of being fat in our society, and he knows the science that frustrates weight loss... but two-thirds through the article he discounts WLS. I’m sure there are plenty of personal reasons to do so, but I’ve never seen someone lay out the case for WLS so clearly and then choose the diet-and-exercise path regardless. I wish him luck, obviously, but would have liked to hear a lot more about why he decided against surgery when he’s got all the success data in front of him.
  24. I'm having bypass surgery in Washington, DC in February 2019, and I will be moving to Australia for work in September 2019. I thought about waiting until I get to Australia to have the surgery, but I decided I want to do it now and arrive in Australia as the "new me." However, I'm a bit concerned about switching to a new doctor for periodic checkups (or to deal with complications if they occur). Has anyone had to deal with this? Has it been disruptive in your weight loss journey?
  25. March 27th bypass for me! I'm so excited even though it's a long way off. Couldn't do February because we're moving. Is there a March 2019 bypass group yet,? I couldn't find one when I searched. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
