    How much weigh loss/how long?

I have lost about 75# in 10 months, I am hoping to be over 90# lost by one year:cool:
  2. Hi Brenda, I'm glad to know I'm not too crazy, dreamin about food! LOL. I think it's some kind of fear or loss thing? Anyways, I'm not allowed anything but clear liquids for the first 10 days, as I was a higher risk, according Dr. Aceves. I had a lot of scar tissue and such on the upper stomach, close to the esophagus, so even swallowing liquids has been a bit of a trial. They didn't allow me to even drink water until day 3 at the hospital. AH! So... I'm taking this kind of gross supplement of liquid Protein called ProStat 64 http://www.pro-stat.com/pro-stat_64.asp It smells like carmel a little bit, but is icky sweet. I'm sure that's due to the same changes many here have noted, things taste sweeter, almost gross... But it's 15 grams of liquid protein in 1 oz serving. So... I guess I should take some more, it is just BAD it's too sweet (and this is the "flavorless/natural" version). Anyways, thanks for the advice. As of Wednesday, I'll try moving to the full liquids and should be able to take in more Proteins, which is good. I've been sucking on sugar free Jello for the little bit of protein there, the only one that isn't too sweet is strawberry so far. Also, made some beef broth, so I'm really trying. Just getting liquids in is killin me. :thumbup1: Thanks for the tips, and I'll keep you posted on how my transition to full liquids goes on Wed. I have a feeling it will be much much better for me at that point. Even a little sugar free chocolate milk, which I would usually not be too fond of sounds SOOOOO good right now. Am I nuts? And seriously, is it normal for me to feel like I'm totally starving? Or is this in my head? :001_rolleyes:

    POOP!

I have struggled with constipation since surgery on 10/13/2015. I had black tar like stools for about a week and then back to normal appearance. My surgeon said this is normal and from dried blood from surgery. For constipation I started taking probiotics and a fiber that contains both solvable and insoluble made by Pinnaclife called Olivimine 10 Max Prebiotic Fiber. This regime seems to be helping.

    Liver shrinking struggles

I'm just on low-carb, high protein, so it hasn't been too bad. Although, I've only lost 7lbs (current weight: 235). My surgical team said they expected me to lose around 10, but I still have a few days left. I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I know a lot are on liquid diets pre-op.

    4 days post-op

@Knix200129 and @sm98444 Congrats ! I had my surgery just days before you both on June 17th. Today I am exactly one week out and have lost a total of 10 lbs from my surgery date, 25 since my initial pre-op appointment May 27 - Almost one month ago. I want to let you know what you're feeling is totally normal. Like Knix, I did not need pain pills and by 5 days later I felt superb. However, I had the hunger pangs. What I would do is take a muscle/spasm pill that they prescribed to me. It definitely stopped the hunger. Also, I gave up smoking! Maybe that's why I'm so angry the past few days, but I don't really have the urge to pick one up yet. Well, I mean I have the urge but it isn't THAT bad that I'm feening for it. Like SM, I am also a side/tummy sleeper. For the first 5 days I measured how well I was healing with how well I could sleep. Being forced to sleep on my back was horrible so I slept maybe 2 or 3 hours at a time for the first 2 days. At one point I was up at 3:30 AM e-mailing my doctor about why can't I sleep?! Finally by Friday night I slept 8 consecutive hours and was able to lay on my left side. Last night I was able to really get comfortable though! My one week appointment was virtual - Actually both my 1 week and 1 month are virtual. I don't have to go back and physically see my team. Crazy, right? Anyway, today I was allowed to begin my puree stage. It's not as bad as it sounds. My dietitian said I could puree Wendy's chili (wow?!) so I'm thinking I may end up living on that, tuna, and chicken salad for the next 3 weeks. I'm supposed to be getting in 80g of protein per day. She said to focus on getting in the protein, not to worry about calories or carbs. And today I've had maybe 50g of protein. I'm actually "late" to eat because I wanted to respond for yas! I'm struggling getting in my water, not because it's difficult but because I need to make myself drink. I'm not thirsty and I'm not hungry so why should I eat? So it's like... Set an alarm and just do it. That'll be my plan for tomorrow. Welcome to the club!

    Anyone From New England?

In a tiny lil town of Bath, NH in the good ol' White Mountains. Traveled monthly to Manchester NH at CMC for a year for my surgery. 10 months post op, surgery was 3/26/12. Down a total of 185 lbs. BEST decision I ever made!!

    Mexico cosmetic surgery

I actually had correspondence with Dr. Sauceda and got a quote for various procedures. After many emails and questions I had I found out why Mexico docs are willing to perform MANY procedures at one time. I was told by the doc that he would do a full body lift, a thigh lift, and a boob lift with new implants all in one operation for $16k. I then went to 3 stateside doc consults and 2 of them would only do one area at a time and the third would do 2 at one time. This made no sense to me so I emailed Dr. Sauceda back and asked how is it that in the states docs don't want to do more than one or two at a time because of the time you will be under general anesthesia but he is willing to do everything at once which will keep me under for 10-12 hours??? He emailed me back and told me they don't put you under general anestesia!!!!!! They give you a local twighlight that puts you in a twilight sleep so you are NOT completely out and you CAN wake up in the middle of it. I'm sorry but I'm just not willing to take that chance! I've heard alot of good about Dr. Sauceda though if someone is brave enough!
  8. My surgeon doesn't use it, nor did I ask. I bought it on Amazon, and drank one around 10 the night before. Research says it's out of your stomach in like 2 hours, so when I took my meds the morning of surgery, I took then with a huge gulp of Clearfast. I think it was about 3. 5 hours before surgery. I thought about drinking the whole thing, but I chickened out. I Woke up from surgery in no pain, and had absolutely no nausea. I walked without difficulty and rated my pain level at a 2. Went home after about 30 hours. My worst pain was the gas. But I took a quick trip to the beach the next day, and shopped at Costco. So, I don't know if the Clearfast helped, but it didn't hurt, and my experience seems to match the results that are expected when using it. I would use it again. 2 Weeks Post Op Weightloss

Congrats! I am 10 days post op and I know how you feel...But it will take time and stay on your plan and exercise... Remember the band is a tool not a cure. You will do great!
  10. Hey all, I need your assistance! I'm new to this site. My aunt had her VSG last August and looks amazing. I attended a seminar 3 weeks ago that my aunts surgeon asked her to speak and share her experience. She and my doctor recommended this surgery and I was so hyped to learn of this procedure, turned in my insurance information at the seminar and enrolled into "the program" Thispast Monday was my appointment to go over insurance, and she immediately told me my UHC Premium PPO has a lifetime max of $15,000 and I must have a 5 year history in order to qualify. My out of pocket would be $3200 which is do-able... however the surgery will cost well over $15,0000 and I do not have a 5 year history My weight has gone up and down, up and down over the last 10 years, and I've moved so much within the last 5 years I didn't have health insurance for awhile and no record of 5 year history. My BMI is 39.5 now after losing 10 lbs due to new migraine medication, (before it was 40.3) with multiple comorbidities (hypertension, high cholesterol, PCOS, foot pain/arthritis, GERD and urinary incontinence which is all new to me that started 2 years ago.) I'm at a loss. The insurance nurse told me I need to find other insurance. Do I really need to find another job to get this procedure done? I had an interview with JPMorgan Chase last week who I believe goes through UHC as well, but the nurse believed they worked better. I don't want to risk getting a new job making less money, just to find out I'm denied. I called the number on the back of my insurance card to confirm if this was in fact true, and they said yes and would have a bariatric case nurse from UHC call me within 5-7 business days... but they will probably just confirm this awful news that my employer is requiring all this and has this cap. I need help. Anyone's thoughts, experience, knowledge? I'm in tears. I don't wan't to lose all this weight again, just to have it gained all back and more like I have my whole life. My body can't take it anymore, especially now that I have all these new comorbidties. Any work for Chase and has UHC that could inform me of the requirements? Or any help. I'm desperate. Your responses would be so much appreciated. Thanks Comorbidities
  11. I feel like I'm able to eat more than I should be eating. I am a year out, and I can eat more than 8-10 bites of food. If I did stretch the stomach out, how do I get it smaller without another surgery? Any ideas??

    Shocking Information (HRT - production)

Hi! My mom took the hormone therapy when she started menopause and ended up with breast cancer 10 years ago. She was very lucky and had a lumpectomy and only needed radiation. The doctor then put her on Tomaxafin (spelling?) and after taking that for 5 years she ended up with uterine cancer. She had a complete hysterectomy and thank goodness everything was caught. She's fully recovered now and no more cancer scares. Anyway, it's important to note we do not have ANY history of cancer on either side of her parents. None of her family members have had breast cancer or uterine cancer, or cancer of any sort. Her doctor attributes her cancer to the hormone replacement therapy. He said some people are more receptive to the hormones given and it increases your risk of developing cancer. So, as I sit here entering menopause myself (can you believe it at 41?), I WILL NOT DO REPLACEMENT THERAPY! I've been trying something called Estroven from GNC to decrease the hot flashes and it's been working great. Anyway, off my soap box and thank you Penni for bringing this up. I got a little off topic but I think it's important everyone hears this and I don't mean to scare anyone who is taking them. Talk to your doctor if you are and get all the information you can. I too love horses and all animals (gosh I should - we have 2 dogs and 4 cats) and I am totally against ANY animal testing or mistreatment of any sort. I can't tell you how much that disgusts me.
  14. I started my pre-op diet 2/17 and was banded on 3/3. Since 2/17 I have lost 20lbs..up until about two weeks ago. However, since 2/17 i've lost a nearly 40 inches from my body..10 inches being from the past two weeks. What gives? Anyone else experience anything similar?
  15. I had surgery one week ago (6/6/19). Im not losing a lot of weight. I’m consuming about 400 calories a day. I’m wondering if this is enough! Is it possible my body has gone into some sort of starvation mode and is storing fat? How many calories should I be consuming?

    i think i made a mistake!

I too am a slow loser. But, if there is one piece of information that has help me more than I can say is to TRACK YOUR FOOD. I resisted this for years...it was just too painful to see what I was actually eating because any mistakes would cause me to go into this really DARK place where I judged myself and just couldn't seem to get back up. But then, one day, somebody on this site suggested that I use the webside thedailyplate.com. IT HAS MADE ALLTHE DIFFERENCE. I had my surgery on April 11th, 2008. By July 21st, I had only lost 10 pounds. I started using this site to track on July the 22nd, since then, I have lost almost 15 POUNDS....TOTAL OF 25POUNDS SINCE SURGERY. I didn't want to see it, and although my quantity of food had decreased with 3 fills, the food was still so high in calories, I just wasn't losing. For example, the first day I tracked (honestly tracked) on the site, I had almost 2400 calories for the day. If you had asked me, I would've probably thought I had around 1600 that day. It has made an amazing difference. 15 pounds in a little over 6 weeks, whereas without the site it took me over 3 months to lose only 10 (most of which came off right after surgery anyway).

    19 Days Post-Op!

Hi everyone! My name is Amanda. I'm so happy to have found a place to talk with other people. I had gastric bypass on November 12th. This past Friday I had my 2 week post-op visit, since October 24th, I've lost 34lbs. I also started the puréed stage of my diet on Friday. I have good days & bad days(mostly good). On the occasional bad day, I feel like this process isn't going to be successful. Sometimes I can't see the finish line(not that there is a finish, I know it's life long). But most days, I am excited for the future. I have a five year old son & a husband that give me motivation. I'm curious to meet others & see their journey!
  18. I was banded on 8/19/09 and until yesterday would been able to tell you I'd never been stuck. But yesterday, it happened to me. I hadn't eaten much but what I did eat didn't want to go down. I've had 5 fills and I'm at 7.5cc.

    Anyone never gotten stuck?

I too had my surgery on February 10, 2009, and have never been stuck. After my last fill I've had increased discomfort from eating too fast, but that's all. Debbie

I am just now back to the forum and reading messages, but I wanted to comment on the "liquid coming up" issue. I had my surgery on 3/16 and doing fine; however, I had that same thing happen on 3/19. My surgeon's nurse said the same thing.........my tea had not made it's way through the "funnel". That is how she explained it to help me visualize the area. I hope you are doing fine now.

    Anyone from Delaware?

Dover also. Surgery just got scheduled for 10/29!
  22. I had surgery on 10/9. I'm still struggling with what feels like "full/sated" vs eating/drinking enough to not be starving myself. Sometimes I feel the restriction, sometimes not. I think it's pretty common in the first month. As for stalls and weight fluctuations, yeah.. they're real. I've been hovering around this same weight for about a week or two now. I even told my wife I thought I broke my stomach because I couldn't feel a restriction.. until I tried something that felt like it scraped the walls of my sleeve going all the way down. ouch! I think a healthy dose of patience is the key. We are having to relearn what it means to eat all the way around, from taste to digestion. It's not going to happen overnight as we know. I have to keep reminding myself of this, too. Like the old cliche saying goes "Keep working the plan. It works.. if you work it"...

  24. Ill put the tips here since I'm on my iPad I'm having trouble messaging. #1 put anything cooking utensils you use on the counter top like a bowl, plate spoon #2 put any food u will be eating like crackers, jello and so on on the counter top make a special place just for your stuff #3 have a shelf in the fridge waist level cleared just for your stuff #4 put anything that comes in bigger containers into smaller ones like milk , tea, cokes and put that on your shelf #5 buy unscented maxi pads to cover your inscisions it's cheaper than gauze squares plus it adds padding #6 buy button up shirts #7 be prepared to have feelings of what did I do? The inscisions look bad at first and the bruising is ugly but it WILL get better #8 wear your compression garment at all times as long as your doctor says or longer #9 have an alarm clock set for when you take your pain pills and stay on them for at least a full day to stay ahead of the pain of coarse unless your doctor tells you other wise #10 relax and let others care of you for a few days it will speed up your recovery I hope this helps please feel free to ask me any questions I also had a tummy tuck, breast lift and chest wall reduction
