Questions on weight loss
kakatlady612 replied to Midgetpony's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's called a stall, there are stories about that all over Bariatric Pal. Are you following your surgeon's advice on post surgery , getting in your fluids etc? Your body may be regrouping and realigning itself, trying to get all balanced. Remember your body was happy ---happy when you were heavier, it could bebop along, laying down additional fat cells. It may have even been singing "Blumpie Blumpier Blumpie." All the sudden your surgery has said "Halt--- we are now going to live off of and utilize the energy in her fat cells" Body is a little peeved over this term of affairs, says" I don't like this. Can't things be like before? "So it stalls out, but you're going to make it behave and suddenly you start losing again. The 3 week stall one is famous but it can happen other times , weight loss isn't always smooth but if you stay the course IT WILL HAPPEN. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -

Do a search on here for "stall ". Your question has been answered a hundred times. There is actually a whole forum for this... "Don't Sweat the Stall Stuff" you should post this there and stay off your scale. You are in the infamous 3 week stall and the best way to end it is to stay off the scale. In the meantime, follow your doctor's plan and stay off the scale. Get in all your protein and water and stay off the scale!

You are approaching the famous 3 week stall. Happens to everyone. The best advice I can offer is to stay off the scale. I only weighed like 3 times in the 1st month postop. Eating healthy and creating new habits are more important than the scale at this point. Just concentrate on AT LEAST 60g of protein, 64oz. water and your vitamins. I've never counted calories, so I can't help you with that silly "numbers game".

I am in this same boat now. I lost 10lbs the first week, gained 2lbs back, and have been stalled for the last 6 days. How long did it take before the weight loss started again for you guys? I am hoping that this is just the famous 3 week stall early! -

Just keep drinking! Also there’s a short weight loss stall near you. Not to worry about, ignore the scale when it happens. Look up 3 week stall on here to see more. You’ve got this! -
So after my 3 week stall and 5lb regain i freaked out and hid the scale(195-198). Didn't weigh again until 8/5 at the doctors office (186). On that day i was happy so i put the scale back in the bathroom. What fresh hell did i put myself into 185-186 haunted me the whole month no matter what i did... So between fb and here i started getting frustrated at those dropping weight constantly without one drop of exercise and im killing myself in the gym 5 days a week and could not drop one lb. i wanted to stop going and just say forget it. Instead i skipped the gym and went outside for a few days, got some sun , hit the track , even raced my 3 year old a few times...today 179!!!!! bye 80's hello 70's i guess my body was just tired of the same old gym routine everyday.

Light Weight Sleevers With 125 Or Less To Loss
RickM replied to ChristyLove's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The rapid initial weight loss (in any weight loss effort,) comes from burning up the body's quick energy stores of glycogen (basically stored carb) before getting into burning the long term stores of fat - it typically takes a couple of weeks to get to this point. Glycogen burns at a rate of about 2000 calories per pound while fat burns at a rate of about 3500 calories per pound, so that's why your loss slows down some when you start burning the fat. Once the glycogen is burned up (typically about two pounds worth, plus about eight pounds of Water to keep it in solution,) your body needs to start burning fat to replace the glycogen, When it does that, it also needs to retain water to replace that which was lost in the initial burn, so even though you are starting to burn fat, your weight may stall as you retain water until the glycogen is topped up again - this is where the typical "3 week stall" comes from. A better treatise on this can be found at http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html -

On my 3rd week stall... so Disappointed :(
Raine replied to Starry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my 1 month visit yesterday and only lost 3 lbs since my 2 week visit. He told me I was doing great. I told him that the 3 lbs is since the begining of week 3 and he told me about the 3 week stall. I started laughing becuase of course I have READ ALL ABOUT IT! Like everyone said if you are doing low carb you need to up your fat. I have problems with fat so I am doing low fat with more carbs. Mind you that there are two things that I refuse to compromise on when I do do fat and that is butter and mayo. everything else i can live with. That is great about the diabeties. I too have stopped taking my meds for that. Since I started on the mushies and there are more carbs in it, I have had to start a 1/2 dose of the glipizide, but thats ok too because I am on the softs now and its all about the protein. So I expect that to go away again too. Your doc is a jerk to make you feel like that. Just saying. Keep up the great work! -

I am glad I found this forum. I also hit the infamous 3 week stall right around week 3 lol. I am going on week 4 and the lbs are starting to fall off again but not near as fast as before. Now that I know this is normal I am not as concerned. Thank you all! -

She also said I should be able to find lots of info online about it. I've come up with zilch. So I'm asking fellow bandsters what's the word???

tinydancer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was sleeved on july 2. i'm 3 weeks and3 days out. i started at 236, was at 219, for a loss of 17 lbs. Today i weighed 221!!i've GAINED 2 lbs. Thats crazy! i'm following all the rules, getting in my protein, eating right, walking on the treadmill, walking around shopping. Drinking my water, even taking miralax. I've heard of the 3 week stall but not the 3 week gain. WHAT THE HECK? Am I just doomed to be fat forever? Even after all this? I do not understand. Very frustrated today. -
Tips and advice for our newbies
heather5565 replied to heather5565's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@jessjames Congratulations for changing your life for the better! You can do this! The absolute most important thing for you right now and for the next few days to a week is drinking your fluids and moving. You don't want to get dehydrated and land back in the hospital, And you don't want to get a blot clot from not moving. Take your pain meds if you need them and get some rest as well. The next week's will be tough but you will get thru them. Don't be surprised if you'll feel fine for the first couple of weeks then by week 3 or 4 you'll feel like you've been hit by a truck. It's like delayed fatigue or something. You may even feel nauseous and have diarrhea around that time too. And don't worry if you experience the infamous '3 week stall' It happens to many many wls patients - just keep calm and know that it is normal. Your body is confused and is just trying to rebuild and heal itself. If you have any questions or concerns or just need to talk please pm me or ask on this thread. Take care and welcome to the 'losers bench' Heather -
Three week stall! :(
CyndieRI replied to fmellnick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a 3 week stall also - so frustrating!! Then the next week I dropped 10lbs. Just keep doing what you are doing and it will work out!! -
Your doing fine. You're on the right track. I started out the same way, then hit the 3 week stall and was stuck until week 4. Don't focus too much on numbers because it will drive you crazy. You are also losing inches too. Keep up the good work.

I was over 50 BMI when I first had surgery. I lost 43 pounds the first month. 4.5 months later I'm at 66 pounds. My weight loss has slowed to a snail's pace. I think it eventually the weight slows down and I had a 3 week stall after the first month. Good luck!

My stall happened on Day 6 and lasted almost 2 weeks. Yesterday I woke up to a 3 pound weight loss and today a 1 pound weight loss. Everyone talks about a 3 week stall. I think I just hit mine early and it sounds like yours is right on time. Hang in there! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
