October 2014 sleevers check in please!

Is anyone still having problems with constipation? I am wondering if the iron in my vitamin is causing this. I just started taking some miralax. Are we supposed to take that daily? Doesnt sound like a very good idea. What is everyone else doing? I am trying to stay positive about this surgery but between my 3 week stall and constipation I am very discouraged.

October 2014 sleevers check in please!

I started eating small gala apples last week. I just make sure I peel them and then cut them up. I didnt have any problems at all. I am 6 weeks out and have been on a 3 week stall I just cant seem to get past. Very frustrating. Can some of u who are also 6 weeks out give me a list of what all you eat in 1 day. A sample menu. I dont think I am eating too much. I dont go over 800 to 900 calories in a day. I would really appreciate some of your sample menus.

    Calling All Sixties!

I was sleeved in October 25, 2014. I've only lost 12 lb and have experienced the 3 week stall as well. I am 63 and am a low BMI (31). I'm doing everything right, getting in my Water and Protein, low carbs, and calories are between 500 and 700. I'm exercising too (walking). I guess I'm what you would call a slow loser!
  5. 1 Year ago today I had my sleeve surgery. It was the best decision I've ever made for my health--diabetes in remission; no longer have high blood pressure--off all medications and down 119 lbs. I was hoping to hit my goal by today but i've been in a 3 week stall so I'm 3 lbs short of my goal but I'm thrilled with the results. Even if I don't go any lower--I'm happy with my size 12 self. Sorry for no pictures--I'm not very techy (need to work on that). Best of luck on your journey to those just starting out and continued success to the rest of us!! Lisa
  6. Well today is a GREAT day. I am 4 weeks post op. My 3 week stall has seemed to pass!!! My diet is now my life time diet. I haven't had any issues with tolerating any foods. I feel full at my meals. Eating about 1/2 cup at a time. Maybe a little more if it is soupy. I am going today to start my gym membership and I couldn't be more excited! I can't wait to see what the next 1 month anniversary holds! Down 30 pounds and counting!

    Stalled!

I had a 3 week stall too at about week 5....it sucks but it will turn around again. Don't eat less calories trying to break the stall! I did weight watchers years ago and when I hit a stall they told me to eat 100 to 200 calories more for a couple days then get back on track......do that at least every 5 days until it breaks. Your body thinks its starving..its adjusting to everything. If you eat a few more calories every now and again it will get back on the losing track knowing you will feed it again soon enough. It worked every time on weight watchers. But, with the sleeve its really hard to eat even 100 calories more in a day with as little room as we have now and the need to meet all of our Protein and water! If you can do it...it works.

    Is it possible?

@@apeters9284 good for you that you read about the 3 week stall the stall can and does last for a bit - no specific time period hopefully it will be over with sooner than later you are doing great with your Water, Protein 40 lbs down!! keep up the good work kathy congrats
  10. @@mnmlst I had surgery on 11/3 and I only weighed in at my dr apt so far. I have a scale but I don't use it. I'm pretty early out too and I don't want the scale stressing me out while my body is in the process of healing. I'm doing what I'm suppose to do so I'm not worried about it. I see people almost daily posting and freaking out because they didn't lose A week or not enough for them ect...,even us early birds when really our focus should be on getting our nutrition/fluids in and healing. There's nothing this early out that we can do about it anyway. I may weigh more a couple months from now when I can eat better and "may" need to make adjustments but Right now it's kinda pointless. Unless you just want to see the numbers that's fine too but it does no good to freak out about it. To each his own! Now, I heard about the 3 weeks stall and I was thinking this morning are they saying on the 3rd week you stall or do you stall for 3 weeks?
  11. Yes!! While I'm only 3+ weeks post op, I decided before surgery that I would switch to weighing only once a month. You see...I'm a recovering scale addict. And I wanted to use this surgery to heal myself physically, mentally and emotionally. I would weigh every day and beat myself up about it. Very self-critical. After reading so many posts about the "dreaded 3 week stall" I thought well hey, if I'm sleeved on Nov 3 then I'll just weigh in on the first of each month. That's easy to remember. So I haven't weighed myself since surgery. I'm guaranteed a decent loss on Dec 1 but I won't know if I've been going through a stall or how long it has been.
  12. Any other late October / early November sleevers out there who want to check in? How are you doing? When was your surgery date? What's going on in your sleeved life right now? My date was October 31. I am doing ok. Still really feeling the restriction and having a lot of pain when I eat to fast or don't chew my food well enough. My doctor fast tracks his healthy patients to real food, so I've been on soft/purees for a week and am moving to regular food. Most of the time it goes pretty well. I am learning what I can and can't tolerate. Weight loss is good -- down 15 lbs since surgery for a total of 35 lbs down since my first day of pre-op. I am fearfully awaiting the 3 week stall. I really want a loss of 20 lbs for my first month, but I think I won't get it. This Friday marks my 3rd week post-op. Any issues? Concerns? Cheers? I went below my pre-pregnancy weight this week! I am beyond thrilled. Still can't get into my pre-pregnancy jeans, tho. That's all for now! Hope to hear from everyone soon!

    Is it possible?

I had surgery October 15th. With preop dirty and 2 weeks after, I lost 40 pounds pounds. Since then, the scale has not moved at all. It has been 2 1/2 weeks. I get my protein in everyday and try to get all my liquids in. I'm scared to death that I am someone who the surgery will not work for. I am eating so much less but its not showing on the scale. I have done research on the 3 week stall but do they last 2 1/2 weeks? I am so upset about this! I have so much more to lose and it seems I have plateaued already. Anyone have advice? Thanks!
  14. Hi Everyone I've been doing some great reading around the forum of people's issues with stalls, in particular, the dreaded 3 week stall. I'm now 4wks post op today, have healed really well and in all ways feel great.... BUT I've been stalled the last two weeks with my weight loss. It's gone up and down by 1kg in the past two weeks (sorry folks, I'm in Aus and we're metric, so don't know the imperial conversion!!). Anyways, I'm consuming approximately 800 calories a day and I'm doing 2-3km walks everyday to every second day. After reading a number of posts by the veterans, who have mentioned increasing calorie content and Water, I'm curious if that could work for me - given I'm already at the ideal calorie intake & doing really well getting my water in. I'm using an app on my phone to record what I'm eating so it tells me how many kj's, how much Protein, fat, sugar, carbs etc are in. As of yesterday, I've finally managed to get to 60grms of protein, but my carbs are 66grms. Which seems to mostly come from having a glass of milk, which my dietician suggested I take to get in protein. As I'm quite terrified the stall is permanent (despite reading comments that it does start again - I don't have much faith it will!!), I'm wondering what the next step is. If I'm in starvation mode but increase my calories, is that going to bugger things up making the body thing "woo hoo!! Foood!!!!" and then gain weight because I've given it more calories?? And on days that I exercise, should I also increase calorie content?? It's almost like a maths equation or a science project! I did ask my surgeon last week, but his only comment was "weight is hard to lose". Which I'm sure most of you would agree with my response of "no shit sherlock"!! (I didn't actually say that to him, but I'm sure he read it on my face!!!). I know I'm probably being an eager beaver. And I'm also committing the cardinal sin of comparing my progress against a friend who had it done in June and I know week for week, she's progressed better than I have, so am having feelings of failing at this. Sorry for the 20 questions folks. I'm just really keen to kick this stall to the curb and get with the losing of weight again. I'm just so bummed it's not changing!!! Cheers RozzieJ

    My journey started 10/27/14

I was sleeved on the 23rd! So far so good. I'm finally eating real food and my 3 week stall seems to have passed yay!
  16. Please, please don't give up. I lost 10lbs the first week I was home and then literally stalled for FOUR weeks! I like you couldn't understand what I was doing wrong and I had read about 2-3 week stalls but never 4 weeks. Hang in there, one morning you'll wake up and another 5-10lbs will just fall off. I am 6 weeks postop

    How's my calories?

I am 4 weeks post op, and the past week I had gained 2 pounds. This morning I was finally down another pound. Hoping my "3 week stall" has passed. As far as diet goes yours sounds a lot like mine. I am actually already on my lifetime diet. As week 2 I was also on soft foods. All surgeons have different plans and orders. I've had zero issues with any foods or drinks. I still follow the no sugar, high protein lots of water. Sometimes I hit my 60g of protein sometimes I fall pretty short. I have lost 29 pounds and I feel pretty good. Your body will go through lots of fluctuation during the next couple weeks. It's adjusting to the shock. And I rarely get over 7-8 hundred calories in. Good luck to u!

    How's my calories?

For me I have to focus on getting in the Protein. My nutritionist also did indeed advise staying close to 800 calories, but the key is protein and Water. If you are sure you are getting in the protein, try tracking it. Even if you don't use and app like Myfitnesspal, make note of how much protein you get in. I only weigh myself when I go to the doctor so I may have had a 3 week stall and was unaware. I was weighed day of surgery, at my 2 week post op and at my 6 week follow up. I was down 26lbs at 2 weeks and another 6lbs at 6weeks. I won't get weighed again until I go back to the doctor next month.

    November sleevers in Mexico?

I definitely feel a hibernation coming on! I saw SO many posts about people freaking out about the "dreaded 3 week stall" so I figured I would save myself the insanity and just skip it all together. I'm guaranteed a loss Dec 1 and I won't know how long my stall has been. :-) I'm trying not to be a slave to the scale, @@Becca R.

October 2014 sleevers check in please!

October Sleevers, I need help!!!! I am not losing correctly. I am so frustrated and falling apart emotionally. I had surgery October 8th. I will be 6 weeks on Wednesday. I weighed 250 on the day of my surgery. Today I am 229 and I gained 2 pounds in the last 2 days. I have lost 21 pounds in 6 weeks and I had a 3 week stall. I lost 3 pounds after the stall. I could do better on Atkins on my own. I track every calorie down to the what I use to cook with, which at this point is not much. I have a hard time getting my shakes down let alone my Water. I am getting about 50 grams of Protein from shakes. I can't seem to eat any solid protein without a lot of pain. I can get at the most 32 oz of water a day. I am trying to force 500-650 calories a day. I walk every day. 10,000 steps and I work out 3 days a week in another type of exercise. I have tried to increase my calories by eating healthy fats like avocado and cheese. Nothing has changed. Any ideas?

    Stall After 2 Weeks

What you are going through is so common, it has a name. The Dreaded 3 Week Stall. Totally normal, and happens to 99% of us. There are literally hundreds of threads in these forums about it. Fear not! It may last a week or 2, but if you keep doing what you are doing, you will start losing again as soon as it's over! Ms Mac says it best..."Stalls are like lovers. Your first won't be your last". Lol.

    When was your second stall?

I never had the 3 week stall and I don't understand why not. I've had a few minor stalls, 1 1/2 weeks at a standstill so far. One I think around month six. I review what I've been eating, paying attention if I've had too much sodium. Sodium is always the culprit for me. I cut back and down the scales go.

Kristen's Journey From Pre-Op and Beyond

So surgery was Monday, November 3. I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this journey. There were a few hiccups along the way but nothing that ever made me regret my decision. When we first arrived at the airport I called Victor but he said he was going back to TJ and would send another driver. Samuel picked us up and took us on a tour of San Diego while waiting for two more people. Once we got to the Marriott we were checked in and got to our room. We waited a bit but never met a patient advocate. This made me nervous since I had no idea what time to be ready in the morning. I couldn't call from my hotel room because I didn't have the local number. I ended up texting Victor who got in touch with Sandra. She showed up within 15 minutes and explained somehow I was put on the wrong list. This made me a little nervous but was happy at least they found me and I was still scheduled for the next day. The Marriott was wonderful in every way. They are very attentive and helped with any request we had. Their broth hit the spot! At the hospital the only issue I had was waiting over six hours for surgery. After waiting six hours I had a little nervous breakdown because I realized it was dark outside and I thought the doctor would be tired when he operated on me. I also thought maybe because I was on the wrong list at the hotel that he was overbooked and overworked and I didn't want to be the last one to be operated on. I'm sure the lack of food for 3 days contributed to that but they finally took me to the OR and gave me medicines to relax. They explained that they save the easiest for last and I was the only one that day who wasn't some type of revision and I had no other co-morbidities. After I met with Dr. Lopez and gauged his alertness I felt more confident. I feel bad for the girls in the recovery room. I can only remember dry heaving, moaning and fighting with the oxygen mask constantly. I think they had to give me lots of drugs to calm me down. My recovery went better than expected. I did have some gas pain in my chest but I worked on walking and breathing deeply each day and it has gotten better. I got what feels like a bubble stuck in my chest when I would drink despite taking small sips but this only lasted about five or six days. I did have diarrhea for 7 days though. That was rough but it helped get a lot of gas out! My MIL got me some kind of herbal tea that helps relieve gas and it was magical. I had a fever for a few days post op. I think two of my incisions were very slightly infected but I showered every day and my MIL would clean them with alcohol, put antibiotic ointment and new bandages. They look pretty good now. Day 6 post op was the magical day I finally gained my independence and didn't have to rely on someone to help me out of bed or dry me after a shower. I have decided to take part in "No Weigh November" because I would like to avoid the dreaded 3 week stall so I will not be weighing until December 1st.
