    hope I don't chicken out

I just had the sleeve done 8 weeks ago and I'm 54 years old. It's never too late. And it's definitely a change of eating patterns and habits as you can only eat such a very small amount, about 2 oz at a time, but you eat about every 3 hours. I eat around 800 calories/day. Good luck with your decision.
  3. Don't worry about much of anything except your diet and water (and some light exercising) at this point. The rest will come around. Worry about healing and learning your new diet first. Getting too attached to the weight number isn't a good thing, when you do stall... you are more likely to end up getting frustrated. Just keep doing what you are supposed to and everything will work out.
  4. HI All, anyone sleeved at Temple University Hospitl in Philadelphia by Dr. Meilahn??? Had my first appointemnet there last week and all went very well.. Jut loinf for some other feedback. Thanks, Randy
  5. Everyone is different, but even none at all would be normal. You come home bigger unfortunately from the fluid and gas. I went in 303 and came out 309. By the end of the first week I had dropped the 6 I gained plus, 11.8 more.

    First Fill on Realize Band

I am going for my 3rd fill this coming Saturday, but something wonderful has happened. I am starting to feel some restriction! I had my second fill 3 weeks ago (total of 3.6 cc's) and I just started feeling restriction from that fill this week. Fills works in strange and wonderous ways. LoL Seriously I am happy, but I am still going for my 3rd fill because it is just light restriction. Thanks for your input.
  7. Hi! I had my lap-band revision to sleeve exactly 1 month ago. I'm super happy and I feel more active than ever! I'm trying to get as much Protein that I can but I'm still find it difficult to eat much. My starting weigh was 175 and I'm at 158 right now. I haven't lost any weight in more than a week now so I hope I can break this stall... Overall great experience and my incisions are beautifully healed. 8. I had my first fill on 8-7-2010, but so far I feel very little restriction. I read that it sometimes takes two weeks to feel restriction after a fill. Why would it take so long?
  9. Did anybody here come home with the draining tube from the hospital. I had surgery 12/31 and I came home with mine. I find it hard to get a comfortable sleeping position. Only two more weeks of all liquid diet for me. Mi can’t wait to have Greek yogurt or something more substantial.
  10. Definetly not the Monday after a Friday surgery. I didnt come home from the hospital until Monday. I went back to work the following Monday and was fine. You will need at least a week at home recovering and focusing on yourself and getting in your proteins etc. Dont rush it, I would of taken a second week, but like you needed to get back to work. 1 week off minimum. Good luck.!
  11. Everyone is SO different. I wasn't ready to get back to work for 3 weeks. The first two weeks I could hardly get out of bed and was so weak. I started working from home after 3 weeks and physically went back to work at 6 weeks. But part of the reason that I stayed away for so long is because my commute is 140 miles round trip and I didn't want to get that far away from home and not feel good. Most people I have talked to have gone back to work in 2-3 weeks.
  12. I thought i'd only take two days. Nope. it wasn't the pain, it was the exhaustion from such little nutrition. I'd say at least a week. I ended up havign to take it without pay. But it can be done.

    Inurance Just In Case?

That's great! So they cover everything when I come back home, but I mean what if I get stuck down there? I know I prob sound paranoid but my mom had the sleeve done by dr ferris in reddeer and they nicked something and she was in real trouble. She seemed ok after so they sent her home two days later. Then two days after that she was sent to Calgary in stars. She was full of infection, had a leak somewhere and developed blood clots. He was in the hospital for TWO months. So that being said I can't imagine what a bill would be from a Mexican hospital if something happened toe while I'm there. Thanks For all your advise! I decided on plication with dr ortiz so I'm a bit nervous as its a newer procedure right? Dr Burke said shed do my fills if I got the lb. I too live two hrs away from Calgary so I started thinking what if I new an emerg unfill? I have three little kids I have to arrange for. So anyway after going back and forth that what I decided. Crazy!

    Today Is The Day!

Best of luck to you! Tomorrow will be one week out for me! Sending happy thoughts and healing wishes your way..,
  15. It happens to us all, I get like that atleast once a week, usually after a few days of working out hardcore. I eat a lot of turkey lunch meat on those days, and almonds. Help me feel full.

    Halfway there! with pics!

I just had my consult with him last week, a good friend was sleeved 2 years ago and reached her goal of 100 lbs lost in 7 months...needless to say she HIGHLY recommended him! I think he is so nice! I am self pay and that is my only complaint, that his office hasn't been totally upfront about costs, they kinda like to bait-and-switch. But that's not him, that's his office manager. He is wonderful and seems to think that because my BMI is fairly low that I will do well...I'm a School Nurse and waiting until summer break so the wait is tough...June 18 is the date! Can't wait!!
  17. I completely understand! I got into tge teens this week, it made me feel like onederland is possible!
  18. I'm 6 days post op and I had lots of pain, and gurgling/noises from my stomach area. I have been walking as much as tolerable. Noises went away by the next day… Keep taking your pain meds, from what I've read on this forum, week 2 is much better. Hang in there! forgot to add that I had what you are feeling on day 4.
  19. I'm reading everyone's post on what a fantastic job they are doing- losing a great amount of weight! Yeah for all of you- but then I'm on the same week and I'm only down 28.... 8 weeks out and only 28? Really I'm so aggravated - I'm doing what the doc said.... He's happy with it but damn!!! Stalled for 3 weeks and I'm going crazy! Ok sorry I'm ranting and should be appreciative for the lose so far.... But I want better results! This is depressing!

    Just Thinking About It....

Thank you all very much for your feedback, I am compiling notes for when I go to visit my doctor next week... I am excited for this new adventure! Would any one have any questions that I should be asking both my doctor and the clinic when I go for my consultation? I think I have covered everything but since some of you have gone through this already and are the "experts" your guidance would be greatly appreciated
  21. Today is the day I had my surgery 4 weeks ago (1/5/14). I have three issues, perhaps you veterans may be able to help me? Problem #1: Since then - I cannot get liquids in. I have a hard time getting anything in. It's painful, and I feel like there is a lump or obstruction in the back of my shoulders - centered, not in shoulders as the gas was at first, and it's all about eating/drinking. So far, I found out that you can throw up even if you haven't eaten anything but three or four spoonfuls. This feeling also tells me that I will throw up if I take even one more spoonful, and I have, which is scary and terrible since this. (3 times throwing up is almost my lifetime of throwing up, so it's weird for me.) I cannot get the suggested food in, it's viscously painful and leaves me in terrible shape for over a half hour sometimes. So - recap: not able to drink more than 24 oz. daily, and nowhere near the food suggested. Problem #2: I have no energy. None. I mean, I have a hard time getting out of bed, and doing anything more than sitting on the couch. I only have three kids at home now, but still - three is enough for destruction, trust me. I have been swamped in laundry, the floors look like I blew up my cat and dogs, and I'm really not sure you'll stay disease-free in this house anymore. I bought the B-12 shots have sub-lingual B-12, still - to no energy. Has anyone else had this? Problem #3: This is the most dangerous, but I now am under the care of a wound care specialist. All my surgical openings are - open. They're deep, and ghastly looking. The nurses at the hotel in TJ for Jerusalem Hospital knew, they got really nervous, then called in a superior, he came in - after rapid-fire Spanish discussion - he said, no it's fine, just go home. Don't worry. Behind him, the other two nurses were looking like they didn't agree, and motioned so. Not the most pleasant way to go home all the way to the east coast. Now - I have deep, deep open wounds, they're going to be disgustingly large and will never heal in any way other than Frankenstein. I see the would care specialist every three days, and they're still debating cutting them all open and re-stitching them for five new scars, I suppose lesser than the big open pits - but no consensus on that. At least I'm under medical care. So much for not telling anyone. Can anyone help? Thanks!!!!

    Follow Me?

Aren't you all nice to post to my thread! Thanks as far as insurance goes, my Nurse Pract. told me they would handle the insurance stuff. She had me send my last 5 years of recorded weight history from my pcp. So of course, I called right away and had them fax it to her. Hope she got it!! I did call BCBS and they said the surgery VSG is covered under my plan, but that I needed a written letter from my PCP stating my attempts at losing weight and his opinion for medical necessity. So he typed it up and gave it to me and I brought it to my consult appt. I hope that is all they need, but I suppose I'll have to wait and see. So on to this battle to lose 10 lbs before surgery date. I am trying to change my eating habits (low carb, low sugar, low calorie) - I've increased my Water intake (really increased it!) and I'm trying to not drink with meals and chew slowly. This is a hard concept to put into practice, I must say. There are times in work when I am soo hungry. I truly think this is the worst of it - the pre op phase. I wish I could jump to the liquid 2 week before surgery time right now. So I'll let you know what happens by the end of this week, as I plan to call Lahey by Thursday to see if the surgery date has been set up and if they have moved on with the insurance stuff. Thanks everyone!
  23. Protein drinks didn't go down easy for me either but I played around with them (3 weeks pre-op liquids) and have found something that works for me. First of all I find Trader Joes 35mg protein shakes to be the least offensive. I disolve a tablespoon of decaff coffee in a couple of ounces of hot water, add 2ablespoons of sugar free amaretto, carmel, irish creme or hazel nut liquid coffee flavoring (Torini or other brands in the coffee section of most stores). Chill the coffe mix and add to choc protien drink, shake well and there you go. It aint Star Bucks but it ain't bad either. I now have no problems getting enough protein by sippin on my pseudo Mochas.

    1day post op

I had my surgery on April 21st and I was extremely nauseous when I woke up from anesthesia. I did not have a hospital stay as my doctor uses a local hotel for two nights after surgery to keep costs down as I was a sell payer. He did prescribe me phenegrin suppositories and they worked great! I never felt nauseous again and I am one week post op and feel great! Just started my thickened liquids and I am having a tough time with protein shakes though. Hope recovery goes well and welcome to the losers bench!

I like to do cheese and meats. I especially love the Fiorucci Panino Proscuitto sticks that come in a tray (I get mine at the base Commissary, Walmart, and Vons/Safeway). The same company does the cheese with pepperoni and salami in trays as well, or you can get all three in a giant tray.
