  1. 6 Week Post Op Doctor visit Results All, I went to visit my doc yesterday. Here are my Stats Prep Op 271 Op day 257 (lost 14lb on my own) 6 weeks out: 238 (33lb lost overall and 19lb since surgery) Here are some high level notes from what I remember: - He was super happy with my results, especially as a revision (10lb in the last month since I last saw him) - I told him I went Vegan, he said GREAT!!! And that that was the healthiest thing I could do (I was expecting him to scold me for not doing an Egg for breakfast, but he loved that I was doing a Green Smoothie instead, and said that I will be able to avoid many deficiencies this way. He said he wished more of his patients will follow this plan but the thought of it would be too off putting for most. - I asked if I needed to see a nutritionist and he said no...you're doing all the right things (woa?) - I asked him if there was a Macro Nutrient limit he wanted me to work with: Calories, Protein, Carb, Fat etc? His answer was NO! Keep doing what you are doing, and live life. Don't worry about tracking each macronutrient or even what you eat, listen to your body, continue eating healthy and don't stress about the numbers. In his words "you're not on a diet, this is just your new eating plan" So essentially he absorbed me of food tracking (so...I ditched my app for now anyways). If I stall for long or have issues, I may track again, but gosh, I've got so much time back in my day from not tracking. To his point too, it's no way to live. I'm about to head out to England for work (in 2 weeks), I would not easily be able to calculate stuff there, I'll have to eyeball and learn to manage it. which brings me to my next point. - I've been cleared to travel, so I'm super SUPER nervous, what if I'm sick trans-atlantic, what if I take ill there and they don't know what to do with me...what if I get sick our naucious in front of clients (today I over did Edamame Pods, and out they came)... To mitigate my fears, I got a Portable Scale on Amazon, and I will travel with it so I can stay honest. - He stressed that a daily dose of 50g B1 was vital (My Bari multi has only 20, so I need to supplement that). - He cleared me for all forms of workouts so yesterday I hit the weights, and I finally did some serious Stomach crunches. Felt good to exercise those muscles nicely! - He patted me on the back and assured me I was doing awesome. And that's about it. Not at ALL how I expected my visit to go! I expected to be scolded on Vegan choice, schooled to do more animal flesh protein, a visit with Nutritionist, him ordering a bunch of tests to check my levels of stuff etc etc. Nothing like that...go figure... Anywho, hopefully this was helpful to you. I love to read about other peoples accounts of their doctors visits.

    March-April Rny-ers

March 19th...revision from lapband to RNY. Originally denied by insurance when I was given a surgery date February 12th. Fought an appeal and won!
  3. Do the pre made taste better then the powder? Revision 1/31/13 by Dr Cabrera and Venezuela in MX
  4. They will definitely make it so I can get my Protein in, I just have to tell the cheapskate in me it's ok that they're more expensive then the powder. Revision 1/31/13 by Dr Cabrera and Venezuela in MX
  5. Thanks everyone, I've certainly not been doing as well as you guys!!! I'm 2 weeks post op and have just been pottering around the house and walking up to the street to get milk most days! My first week post op was pretty damn awful - I'm not sure I could have found my way to the mailbox let alone walk 5 miles!! I'm a band to bypass revision and had quite a lot of scar tissue dug out of me too so not sure if that has slowed my recovery a little too? I have been using my Fitbit to keep track of my steps and trying to get 500 more in every day to ensure an increase in activity level every day. I return to work next Tuesday and don't want to be taking naps at lunch time in my car LOL Well done to you all though - pretty awesome effort considering what your bodies have been through...... And congrats on all of your weight loss - simply amazing!!
  6. Hi all. I am almost a year out from band to bypass revision. I set my goal weight before getting banded in 2012 at 185 because I wanted to say I’d lost 100 lb from my surgery weight. I hit that goal but am not satisfied at how I look so I have a new goal of 175. I think the numbers mcipanda quoted at the beginning are unrealistic numbers in the first place. Better to be flexible about the goal and when it feels right then you’re there, imo. Congrats to all of you on ryes chat to have made the decision to improve your health!
  7. Round 3, first steps I spent part of this morning talking to the new surgeon, Dr. S. As I mentioned earlier, Dr. M. is a good guy and good surgeon, but he only performs banding. I no longer have confidence in the band -for me-, and so I am looking into alternative choices. We discussed the VSG procedure, and between the two of us decided that would be the best choice. The other option was the bypass, but honestly I think it would be overkill given my current physical condition. I'm overweight, but only by maybe 30 lbs. I'd look like a cancer victim if I did the bypass now! Things are a bit more complicated because of the insurance company and the role they are playing in all this. They have approved a removal of the band, and so that is going to reduce the costs somewhat from the cash price of the VSG. The procedure is normally around 11K, which I cannot pay for at this time. I can swing the 8K or so that this should turn out costing. It will -hurt-, but I can cover it. If I consider Dr. M. was quoting 4K for the new band, it's not all that bad. Of course, that's the same kind of false logic that people use to justify expensive purses "on sale" The next step is for their office to start talking to the insurance company and resubmit for the revision. I have no idea on timelines yet for the surgery, recovery, etc. I do know that I will be out for a week, and given that I'm a contractor on a day rate, that's going to bite. Ah well. This all beats being FAT again, and it's readily apparent that without the assistance of some sort of restriction I will again top 300 lbs.

    Vegan or Vegetarian RNY Mentor

Hi I'm vegan 3 years now. I love my plant based lifestyle. No animals or animal products are consumed by me. I also just had a revision on 7/16/17 I went from vertical banded Gastroplasty performed in 1993 to my current gastric bypass. I'd love to chat with y'all too. My email is aka_et@me.com You can find me on Instagram and or Facebook. However I do not discuss anything about my weight loss surgery on either media account. I don't care to do so. But I do discuss being a vegan. Aka_ET HW-220 Pre-op 194.3 RNY SD June 16th 2017 CW-188 GW-140 HT 5' 3" [emoji120][emoji878][emoji1272] "You may see me struggle but you will never see me quit"
  9. Glad to know I’m not alone in this. I’m researching as well about a revision. Originally sleeved February 2012.
  10. I had a revision from a sleeve to a gastric bypass . due to a hernia repair that ripped and damaged my sleeve and my diaphragm. it is tough eating but i am drinking at the least 130 oz a day in fluids and am just now starting on my soft food stage . I take Salmon and mix it well with plain yogurt and season salt. put in 1 oz cup and eat that every 2 hrs . plus all my drinks and such . Lots of ice pop's. protein shakes suck but have to get them in. and vitamins . only thing I am struggling with this time is constipation . haven't gained any weight after first surgery.. just stopped losing weight due to the soft foods I was eating were not on my list of healthy but they were easy to eat and didn't cause pain . now it is a struggle to eat anything over the size of a golf ball. Haven't figured out how to cook one of those down yet lol

Maybe I missed something somewhere but if you're at permanent goal, why are you having the revision?

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

January 12th! Revision to sleeve from lapband. Had lapband removed oct 2016. So I’m basically starting the lifestyle all over again that I had done so great with for 5 years!! I am nervous!!
  14. Looking like May 11th for me. Revision from a lap band to the sleeve. Today is my pre op medical clearance. Tomorrow I meet with the doctor to go over all the details. Then Thursday I meet with the dietician to go over pre op and post op eating guidelines. Holy crap! I can't believe it's only 2 weeks away!

    Complications ?

Right. Scar tissue is thick and doesn't heal as well. Revisions are higher risk than virgin sleeves due to the thickened scar tissue.
  16. CowgirlJane

    Complications ?

I had no complications. According to surgeon revisions have "about" double the risk of leaks and excessive bleeding. So, if leak risk is around 1-2%; for revisions it is still single digit but much higher. For me, the risk was worth it because I was dying slowly being so obese.

    Complications ?

I had my revision from band to sleeve on 5/28 as well. I have had absolutely no complications. I had my surgery in Dallas, Tx, with Dr. David Kim. I have lost a total of 19 lbs. After reading on here everyone's experience, I was so scared that I was going to have issues getting fluids down. From day 2 post op, i have been drinking fluids no problem, I have went forward on my diet without dr's orders, but I am on phase 2 of post op diet, which should just be creamed soups, well I have started refried beans and fat free cottage cheese, which has settle just fine. My only compliant right now is, I get tired so much faster than I use to. Understandable, due to not getting the calories and carbs that I usually did. I will be release to exercise in about 2 weeks. I love my sleeve, and I love that I have vomitted in almost 3 weeks. Good luck...

    February/March 08 plastics

update on my follow up appointment. I had a couple of internal stitches coming up, so she was able to remove them. She was also worried that my scar was a little to big, so she put steri-strips on it to take the stress off the actual scar. those will stay on for 2 weeks. After that, she wants me to put silicone sheets on it. She also scheduled for me to get a revision done. I have a "dog ear" on one hip and she wants to tighten up my upper pubic area. She can do this in her office under local. It is scheduled for May 21st. That will give time for the swelling to go down. Overall, she was very pleased. Also, no more binder for me. Yeah. lol

    February/March 08 plastics

I am right there with you. I am very happy with my results, but she told me when she saw my the next day that it looked like I was going to have a dogear on my right side. Sure enough I do. She said she could take care of it in the office under local. Has anyone had this done? Do you know if they charge for it or is it part of their service to do minor revisions? Just curious. I would much rather have a little dog ear than the huge flap I had before though LOL
  20. I had a sleeve done three years ago and will be going in for a revision to bypass in March. I really want to do more to keep myself on track, and thought about having a dedicated bullet journal just for this - goals, trackers, etc. Of course, I already use apps to track food and macros, water, step count, etc, but they are in different places and, having just started bullet journaling for another part of my life, I’ve realized how much I miss actually writing things down and having more space to write about high points and low points, as well as a place to keep photos, etc of my journey. I’ve done some research online but most bullet journals just have a one page spread for the month tracking exercise or water or whatever, there are very few ideas out there about setting up a journal for those of us going through bariatric surgery (pre- and post-op diets, liquid/purée/soft food stages, etc). Just curious if anyone out there has set up a journal for themselves and are willing to share the kind of spreads they made. I’m currently sketching out a few ideas and will share as soon as I can make them somewhat decent.

Lynn: Really need pictures to see what you're talking about, but you probably do have a distored body image. It takes time to get use to the new body. I find it very helpful to look at my before pictures and than I feel a lot better about my results. I'm a bit pudgy in the upper stomach also and I'm hoping that a bit more weight loss and exercise will help. That was a thoughtless remark on the photographers part. Maybe she should get naked in front of you and you can comment on all her imperfections! LOL. I want to look perfect too, but it probably is an unreasonable goal. I'm looking at doing my backside and arms. When I lose the last 15 pounds if the PS can do some revision of my tt and get the upper stomach tighter, I will do it. Another thing to consider is that you still have swelling which goes to the upper stomach? I know I still swell alot, especially since I've started exercising again. You know I think it would be really helpful, if we could see more people naked in general. Don't you? I think we'd find that really there aren't too many perfect bodies out there. Now hold on to that thought for a while!

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Hi Ladies, I am also having surgery on 7/7/11. I am scheduled for a poet revision. I was a self pay 3.5 years ago. This surgery will be paid for by my insurance. Last week I went to get a fill and we discovered I have a leak in my port no fault of mine it just happends sometime. I know what to expect with surgery but you still get a little anxious. I know you girls will do wonderful. Just do as your doctor orders. ~Sandy~

    Complete unfill...now what?

I just had to have 2.2 taken out of my band and I'm really concerned because now I feel there is no restriction. I was at 9.5 and doing really well. Started to feel like my portions were getting a little too big so I went in this past Friday and got .5 which proved a bit too much as I had trouble swallowing the Water they gave me so .2 came out and that seemed to be ok...while I was on liquid and mush food. As soon as I ate solid food on Monday I had acid reflux and chest pains. So back I went yesterday. She took out the 2.2...or rather it came out on it's own she said I was very irritated (the band I guess). So this puts me I guess around 7.6. I'm scared. I don't want to start gaining again. I did have it in my mind to follow the post op plan - liquids to mushy to solid over the next week and then be able to go back in and get filled again. I've not done as well I've been doing since I first had my band in 2009! I never lost more than 50lbs. I gained 20 or so back when I didn't have insurance and couldn't get fills. I finally get on a roll and BAM. I was also considering revision from band to sleeve. I think I will move forward with that. If the band can't be filled enough to be effective then it's useless to me. Right? I also need to have my gallbladder out apparently. I haven't really had a bad attack but they did an ultrasound of it and the Doctor said it would have to come out eventually. I'd rather get it all done at once...which is why I have been waiting trying to decide if I want to try for the revision. I have to go through the program (6 weeks) and THEN my insurance may or may not cover it. I also have to spend $300+ to go through the program. But maybe it's worth trying.

    Insurance Tricare?

Ya know I had that feeling! My doctors office told me on day 1 it was covered now by them as of just a few months ago but something is just not sitting right with me. I had a feeling it wasn't. I don't want the bypass. Now I'm really bummed ???? So did you pay for your sleeve out of pocket? I may end up just doing just that myself. Thanks for your information Hello Cladd, my husband is active duty Navy. As you know, we have Tricare prime. I had the sleeve done Dec 30, 2013. And BC of almost 2yrs of a stricture and acid reflux, I had to have a revision to GBP on Dec 4, 2015. Unless something changed recently, they pay for the sleeve. Hope this helps and sorry if this is a repeat answer, I didn't read the entire posts. Good luck:)

    Day 13 Post-Op Sleeve

I know honey. I'm feeling the same way. I am 7 days out today from lapband revision to RNY and I was in no way prepared for the emotional roller coaster of hormones. I am furious, I'm laughing and I'm sobbing uncontrollably. It's the most illogical thing. Beyond that, I want to EAT! Everyone said, "oh don't worry. For the first month you won't even think about food." WHATEVER! I have been thinking about food constantly since day 3! I want to freaking eat!!! And worst of all, I am down a whopping ONE pound! I'm so glad I went through this expense, pain and taking off work just to lose a pound! Evidently, revision patients lose very slowly (which my surgeon never mentioned to me!) so I can expect to lose 5 pounds or so per month. Are. You. Kidding. Me. ??????? I could lose way more than five pounds a month on Jenny Craig! So, right now I am thinking this is the biggest mistake I've ever made in my life. If I could go back one week and change it, I would not have this surgery. Having a surgery that only allows me to lose 5 pounds per month is pointless for someone like me who needs to lose 100-125 pounds. Oh one last thing. My surgeon accused me of cheating. He says there's no way I should be down only one pound in 7 days and I must've been eating things not on my list. It took everything in me to keep from going off on him. I didn't cheat. I swear to God. I'm glad you can keep your sense of humor. I pray it helps you through this and pray for your success and health. June 12, 2017 I had my lap-band removed, my gallbladder removed and received an RNY. HW: 402, SW 306, CW 303, GW 185
