    Weight gain....

So I was sleeved in July 2014, and lost 70 pounds in 5 months!!! Then it stopped...it has been 10 months since I have lost anything. What's worse is I have gained 10 pounds! Now in July this year I saw my surgeon and we discussed my weight and he said to up my exercise and I have....work out at a gym now with a trainer 3-4 days a week....I am very careful as to what I eat. I guess my question is has this happened to anyone else?? My surgeon did tell me that if in 6 months there is still no change he would do the bypass revision...just scared to have another surgery...
  2. Hi there, Im having my revision this Tuesday after having my band for over 7 years. My weight loss has been substantial and in fact, I am probably below weight now (I even see that I look too thin). I had a slip about 6 months after having it put in, but I have never really coped with the band and think I am one of those people that will vomit no matter how little Fluid is in the band. I have had another slip and can't keep food down at all. I had the rest of my fluid out last Friday and now can keep liquids down. I couldn't even tell you when the band slipped again - most likely years ago and I just lived with the reflux and vomiting. Its better than being fat isn't it??! Now though, I have lost too much weight and feel terribly lethargic and not myself at all. I just want to recondition and be strong again. I don't however, want to be fat. So, what to do? I have booked in for the bypass in a few months but really concerned about stacking on too much weight once the band is gone. I eat a liquid diet now anyway e.g. smoothies, Soups etc but I have been using butter and cream to try to keep weight on. I know that I will need to change my diet pre bypass. I am now a fit person and I have exercised daily and love it, for about 5 years. I wonder if this in combination with doing the post bypass diet will be enough to keep my weight under control and the bypass would be unnecessary? Its a pretty confronting and scary time - I only found out a few days ago that I was to lose the band, so still getting my head around it and RESEARCHING! Not long until your surgery - they are doing both procedures at once on the 15th? Cheers Donna

    MN - Duluth/Superior

Well, I'll be joining Team Revision on October 29th. Found out my lap band was leaking in July after trying to figure out why I was gaining weight despite still eating and exercising the same. Began the process of revision to the sleeve. Got the approval on September 15th. Looking forward to getting this weight off and getting my body back. Will have Dr. Bettendorf at Essentia Health in Duluth.
  4. That's what Tricare did to me. I was just over 100 pounds overweight. They put me on the 6-month diet and as soon as I lost to 99 pounds overweight they said I didn't qualify for the surgery. But if I hadn't lost any weight, they said I wouldn't have qualified because I had to show I could lose weight. I ended up self-paying for the band back in 2007 (didn't work) and now thankfully my insurance has approved me for a revision. I can my own insurance through my job now and don't have to rely on my husband's Tricare. It was an awful experience. I had tricare and they didn't do that to me? I didn't have to do 6 months either. I did 4 and was approved.
  5. I too had the sleeve 2 years ago an suffered with severe acid reflex an they said only thing would save my stomach an asophagus was revision to bypass an i had it august 18th no more acid reflex but scared how small I will get because everyone in my family that had bypass is like a size 0 so far I'm 37 pounds down an they want me to start working out an i told the doctor I still can't hold solid foods down an she said she's not to much concerned with that as long as I stay hydrated lol but I am concerned all I can hold down is liquids an yogurt an i tried smashing avocado that stayed down

Hopefully revising will be covered by insurance. Congratulations on your weight loss. In the last 8 years I have had 5 doctors. # One because I moved # two because the doctor moved # three was in another city and found closer # four went back to teaching # five I am still seeing.
  8. @@azarellanos stomach stapling - that equals weight loss surgery? doc would be the one officially in the know he/she would/could give advice, suggestion on which WLS is best for her good luck with your revision surgery next week look forward to a healthier, happier, longer life who deserves it more? (maybe your friend ) kathy
  9. I am a revision from LapBand. I am very pleased with this little stomach. I am losing slowly, but it is so much better than how I lived with the Band. I was throwing up daily even with my band empty... It had slipped and developed so much scar tissue that removal was the only option. I am losing 1-2 lbs per week, so I am not losing rapidly like some people do but it is pretty steady and I have no doubts that I will make it back down to a healthy weight. I have no regrets.
  10. Hi I am a band to bypass revision 4 weeks post op don't regret my choice love that there is lots of support online x

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

I'm having my revision on Monday the 12. They just called me for the time and they said 2pm to be there at 12!? I wish my time was earlier, cause you can't drink anything after 11 pm on Sunday. How am I suppose to do that, all those hours and nothing to drink. Anyone else have a later time in the day surgery??
  12. Hi @@Tracytma well I'm not going to lie, for me it has been absolutely, 100% worth it! I'm a band to sleeve revision patient due to the band failing. I was banded in 2010, had it removed in August 2014. I was revised 12 months ago and i have not ever regretted that i made this decision. I have lost 154lbs in 12 months and I'm still losing ????. I have had a few challenges in the first 6 months, i could not eat meat or dairy and i developed GERD. At the 7 month point i was able to meat and dairy and now i can safely say that at 12 months my GERD is all but gone ( once in a very odd blue moon do i have to take meds for it). I have lymphoedema on both lower limbs and that is almost gone. Life is good!! I wish you all the very best in your weight loss journey xox.
  13. Hi all its normal to be nervous, I'm a band to sleeve revision patient due to the band failing. I was revised 12 months ago and i have not ever regretted that i made this decision. It has been the best decision i have made for my health and wellbeing. I have lost 154lbs in 12 months.. Yes you read that right ???? and I'm still losing. 14. Wow that's great that you get to have your removal and revision all in one surgery! My insurance isn't that nice, they made me have my removal first and I am revising in November. They consider it to be a new surgery so I had to qualify over again. Congrats on your upcoming surgery!!!
  15. I had my band done in 2008 and never had problems with reflux until just about 2 or 3 months ago. I had it removed Aug 21st, 2015 and it got WAY worse. On meds until I have the bypass done. I have heard tooooo many people conplain about reflux with the sleeve or having to revise to the bypass due to not enough weight loss. Just skip the middle man and go for the GOLD! Just my opinion

    Port Flipped

i recently changed doctors because my insurance company will no longer pay for the original doctor who performed my procedure. On my first visit I was immediately impressed with how friendly, professional, and caring Dr. Kerri Seymour was. She schedule me a fill under Fluro which I had never had done in the 6 years of being banded. When I arrived at the Duke-Raleigh Radiology my wait was short and I was escorted to the back. Once she began to access my port , frustration set in. After 30 minutes, of poking and looking at x-rays, she concluded that my port had flipped and need revising. Just my luck!!!!

    I Failed My Band

I've been MIA for a long time from this site because I sorta feel like a failure. Here's my Story... In August 2014 my band was too tight. I went to the the Dr. and they removed a tiny bit of fluid and had me drink some barium and asked me to do a swallow test. With tiny sips the water trickled through. I should have asked them to remove a little more but the weight was dropping off me fast because I could hardly get anything down. My mistake, but I feel like my Dr was somewhat responsible as well. It was just too tight! I was fine for two days, then I woke up on Friday morning and I couldn't drink my protein drink. i couldn't even swallow my saliva. I got the slimy yucky foamy stuff for most of the day. I called my Dr. office and had to leave a message. Nobody called me back on Friday. Saturday I woke up suddenly feeling very sick and i threw up blood. Several times Saturday I would throw up blood. My tummy would feel full and I hadn't eaten anything and I would throw up and it would be dark blood. Foolishly i waited until Sunday to go to the ER. By this time I was very dehydrated and my potassium was extremely low. Just a side note: If you ever have to have Potassium Intravenously infused it hurts so bad. I'm not exaggerating. It's very painful. Anyway... Luckily, the hospital I went to has a newly opened WLS clinic and the surgeon who i was speaking with knew about the Lab Band and how to look for slippages. He even said he wanted to see if he could try to save my band for me. Unfortunately my band had completely slipped and was wrapped around the middle of my stomach. So, it had to be removed. After he left the room I sobbed I was so upset! Flash forward to August 2015,I have a regain of about 40lbs. so i decided to have a revision to RNY Gastric Bypass. I found a new WLS Dr at a new Center that has really put me through the ringer. I had to go to a specific place to take my Psych. Evaluation. That was a little pricey $800 the Dr. was out of Network. Then I had to be approved by the surgical board to determine if they thought I would follow the program. Now, on September 15th, I am going to my preoperative class that takes all day long and I have to bring someone from my support group. I will find out my surgery date which should be in about 2 weeks because I will have to do the liquid diet. Then I will officially be an RNY Gastric Bypass Revision Patient! Revision's don"t lose weight as fast as newly operated on patients. I've heard there have been complications with revisions from the band to the sleeve. I'm not versed enough to speak to all the complications because I am sure there are plenty with the RNY, too! When I spoke to my Dr about his opinion on what he thought would be best for me he said, " Honestly, I prefer the RNY, because it has the dumping". I thought for a moment and decided that he was right and that would be another useful tool. I mean if my body rejects sweets and greasy food, then heck yeah! Here's to an awesome HONEYMOON PERIOD with my bypass surgery. I'm hoping I will continue to get support from my friends and make new ones in the process. I'm trying to look at this as a positive thing. Thanks for reading, ~T

They will still be with you. Plus they will want to know how it all goes as the facts tell us that some of them will face this down the road too. Good luck with your revision surgery.

  20. I had to have my Band removed as an emergency procedure. My band was to tight. I went to my Dr and the removed a tiny bit of fluid and I was ok for two days but then I couldn't even keep water down and I began throwing up. I went to bed and woke up first thing in the morning having to throw up and all I threw up was blood. This was back in August of 2014. So, even though my band had been so fickle it was a good tool that helped me lose weight..I actually cried, sobbed actually after the Dr told me I had to have it removed. With all my vomiting the band was half way down my stomach and was actually restricting blood from the top portion of my stomach. Its a long story and I made my mistakes. I got my sickest on the weekend and didn't call my WLS office. The vomiting up blood continuously scared me so I went to my hospital. Long story short, I have decided to do Revision Surgery to RNY Gastric Bypass. I go on the 15th for my final class I will get my surgery appointment set for two weeks from that date and begin my liguqid protein diet. Has anybody in this group had revision surgery or have thye considered it?
  21. Doe's anyone know who is reputable in Mexico to do revision surgery from RNY to DS. Ive read that Dr Ungson is no longer doing it as he took a government job. Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance !
  22. I was banded 2010, lost 20 pounds, had problems, my Dr. left and wasn't replaced. January thought I was having heart attack, my band slid up. Finally was sent to decent Bariatric Dr. start 2 week preop diet Monday and surgery for removal and roux en y revision.

    Working out?

I know this isn't what some people want to hear but you mentioned it in your post. I had the band (getting revision next week due to band complications) I lost 101 lbs in my first year and never exercised once. I maintained my weight by eating right until the complications started a year ago. It can be done without the exercise but I think it's the exception and not the norm. I started Kickboxing last Oct and loved it but I never lost anything doing it.
  24. That's a real bummer!!! I hope you can get a revision.

Anyone banded 4+ yrs & starting from 0?

I was banded in 2008. And am getting the revision to sleeve at the end of this month. The band was one of the worst decisions I made. Constant vomiting for years that I finally took all the fluid out in 2013. I am looking forward to getting sleeved.
