What are or were your favorite foods to "eat" on the liquid stage?
Cindy C replied to RedheadGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I pretty much lived on jello, yogurt, carnation instant breakfast and broth. The week before surgery I put chicken and vegetables in the crock pot. When it was done, I strained it and threw away the solids. Then I put the broth in small containern the freezer in preparation for my 2 weeks of clear liquids. -
Not losing weight at all!
LeighaMason replied to marcybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you journal on fitday.com or livestrong.com or loseit.com they will total your calories for you. Not everyone has to count calories but it helps me. I stay around 800-1000 a day but I am going to start eating 1200 on the day before I run so that I will have extra energy for those days. But you have to find what works for you. I suggest journaling for a week and see what you are really doing and then tweaking it from there. I found that once I started journaling, I would eat something and then put it in the computer and go "Holy crap! I had no idea that was so bad! I'm not eating that again!" So one thing at a time I cleaned up my eating. I also plan my meals, I am going to eat 3 meals and 2 Snacks today. So there is no room for grazing. I eat every 3 hours anyway so I dont get hungry, and since I know what I am going to eat its easy to exclude what isnt on the list. Breakfast:Greek yogurt Snack: EAS shake Lunch: Taco Snack: cheese stick Dinner: chicken thigh and veggies I hope this helps -
You need to be careful with fruit and strawberries in particular following surgery. They were on my 'do not eat list' for the first three months due to the skins and seeds. I was told not to eat any fruit with seeds or skins - no grapes (unless pealed), no cherries - even in yogurt, and my clinic was emphatic about no strawberries due to the seeds. I did eat blueberries but for those first months stuck primarily to canned fruit and applesauce. Carol

I use protein powders and Torani SF syrups to flavor my Fage or Chobani Greek yogurt. I've also used puréed peaches and mangos. Garden of Life Vanilla powder and pumpkin pie syrup are my current favorites.

Pork is very chewy, I dont like it much anyway. Occasionally we will have roast pork done in the Weber, but not often, but pork chops and stuff, ugh, no way. I can only imagine the pain they'd cause. I also dont tolerate reheated meat well unless its very moist like in a casserole. But a piece of bbqed steak reheated in the microwave, forget it. But again, I would have turned my nose up at that preband anyway. I dont see why your doc would be baffled - what you're saying is not at all uncommon, the foods you find hard are totally individual and not restricted to red meat and bread at all. I get stuck on yogurt!

New Here- 4.5 Years Banded....no Support For 3.5 Years. Lots Of ?'s
Iava posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi. I am new on here. I just wanted to introduce myself and ask a few questions. First, I was banded back in fall 2007. My surgery was supposed to be outpatient, but I ended up with severe complications from the "gas" pains and was in for 5 days. I have read so many success stories. It's really nice to see. I have had some success of losing and keeping the weight off, but no where near my goal. I experienced vomiting up to 10 times a day almost every day since my surgery. I really feel my surgery went wrong and my band was never secured or in the correct place. I did bring that up to my Dr. on several occasions and even had him meet me at his office on a holiday weekend to take out the "fill". I have not had a "fill" since Oct. 2008. When filled, I couldn't even keep down Water. Without the fill I can keep water down, but no healthy amount of food without feeling stuck. Two weeks ago I went to the ER I was vomiting violently and couldn't even hold down water. They xrayed my stomach and said they didn't see anything wrong and diagnosed me with Gastritis (stomach flu). I wasn't happy with the answer because it didn't feel right and I am not even sure this particular ER had any experience with the lap band to know if it was in place properly or not. I did a follow up with my own family Dr., as I am uninsured and unemployed and can't afford the payments for all the specialists. My Dr. then diagnosed me with Candida or Strep- either way they said it would be cured with antibiotics. I am finishing my 3rd week of antibiotics and they gave me prilosec. Today was the first day I was able to get back into my old jeans that I was able to wear a year after surgery. Today was also the very first time that I was able to consume food without having that stuck feeling. I didn't realize it until tonight that I haven't vomited in 2 full days, haven't felt stuck. I ate 1/3 of a very small steak and some mashed potatoes (6 small bites) I know I should have had the broccoli, but it felt good. I was full, but not stuck!!!! Finally. I hope that just with me being ill 3 weeks ago maybe it readjusted my band? Perhaps even pulled it off entirely, not really sure and have no answers. Anyone else have any complications like I had? I followed the plan the first few months very strictly. After 3 months I learned to just either not eat at all until late in the day or to just eat what I could hold down, either Soups or very cold things like frozen yogurt. But after years of suffering from vomiting, I had to go back to eating regular foods- I just would vomit it back up. I feel pretty good today too. I have SLE Lupus with Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia. So, I am used to not feeling great all the time. I hope that this can be a new beginning for me. I want to stick by good healthy choices and continue on to see my success hopefully fall into place with hard work and determination. I have never been to a support group or meeting. So, I really don't know what to expect. Sorry this is so long. I will leave it at that. Thank you for taking time to read it. I will be reading and following as many posts as I can as well. -
Real Hunger vs. Head Hunger

LOL I DO have kids at home and I still don't buy that stuff or keep it in the house! Let's face it, garbage food isn't any better for them than it is for me. My logic is, why would I feed my kids crap and not myself? That wouldn't make a very good mother. My kids love string cheese, almonds, and yogurt. They even love the SF pudding that I snack on occasionally. The only thing they snack on that I don't is granola bars because they're too much sugar for me. EDIT: Oh and fresh fruit. My kids go through TONS of fresh fruit a week! -

Wish I had a good answer for ya, but I feel kind of the same way. I'm not a big fan of plain yogurt. Was going to try some flavored Stevia, or sugar free jello mix, or my protein hot cocoa mix. Those have got to make it taste better, right? I wonder what chocolate or strawberry protein powder in it would taste like! Good luck. When is your surgery date? -

I'm suppose to keep my sugar grams at 5 or less. All these yogurts you all are talking about that sound so wonderful all have way more than 5gm of sugar in them. I don't think ill be able to have any of them! -

day 2 of the liquid diet - tell me it's going to be OK!!!!!
dolphintattoo posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am on 3 shakes, 2 yogurt, 1c cottege cheese and all the sugar free popscicles/jello/diet beverages/broth I can handle and up to 3 SF fudgescicles. I did well until about 7pm when I felt like I was a bottomless pit. I had worked out between 5-6pm then had some dinner (shake, cottege cheese & broth). Then I had a cup of V-8 which I mistakenly thought was ok for pre-op, it's actually for post op but I am not too worried that 1 cup of juice is going to ruin my liver, I just won't drink it again, it of course hit the spot. I feel like I can do pre-op but working out is going to be hard b/c I already feel my energy flagging, but how on earth can I do this post op for 2 more weeks!!!!! I can deal with the hunger now, I just worry about that thing they call "bandster hell" where you are starving and can only take little sips of liquids. I hope i am strong enough. -
I've started the pureed phase of my diet and I'm having a hard time incorporating protein unless it's a greek yogurt or protein shake. I can tolerate a scrambled egg, but that's about it. The thought of pureed meat grosses me out. I work in a nursing home and that's all I can think of. What can I do? I need more variety in my life. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

Same here. Four years post surgery. I went to 160, now at 190 two years. I could not eat any less. No carbs in my household. Feel bloated constantly, feel I am getting fat in my upper body I never had, including stomach. Tried an organic clean diet and gained weight. Typical day is yogurt, boiled egg, cheese stick, cabbage salad, piece of protein meat for dinner. Lost so much hair I don’t want to go back for more surgery. Had to take Thiamine injections six months. Feeling screwed.

My First Week On The Road At 4 Weeks Post Gastric Sleeve Op.....an Eye Opener.
Rev Me Up! replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Holy Moly, I can't imagine an aggressive Europe schedule that soon after surgery, but it looks like you are making the best of it!! I was dead-exhasted for 8 weeks after surgery - no way I would have been a good travel companion. The best thing in Europe are the breakfasts, no? All the cheese, meat, and yogurt a new sleever could ask for!! I did a work trip to the UK at about 3 months post op and I would raid the Breakfast offerings and stuff them in my purse for later. I took a yogurt for breakfast, a spare yogurt for later, and a packet of hot Cereal that I would make with hot milk in the office. Peel the meat off a sandwich, toppings off of a pizza, or order a tapas plate and I was good to go. String cheese was another purse-staple. BTW - oatmeal, hot meusli, or whatever you can find may help your constipation issues. I religiously ate at least one meal of whole grain hot cereal a day in the first few months. Bon chance! -
Need Suggestions For Protein Sources Other Than Protein Powder
Green Machine replied to blinger12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days post-op and also am not into the protein drinks. Today I made a Tuna melt for lunch. I also had blended lunch meat ham and cottage cheese. I just made sweet potato soup to eat for tomorrow. I have been using cottage cheese and greek yogurt as my protein source and adding unsweetened soy milk to thin things. Its been great! Also in the works for tomorrow is some thanksgiving soup with stuffing & turkey lunch meat. Be creative, you can have meat if you want! -
Two Days At Home And Feeling Great

So I had my vsg on tuesday and stayed at the hospital for 1 night.. The gas pains and incision pain was tuff but once you start walking and holding down fluids things take a turn for the best quickly... I feel almost 100% and started thicker liquids.. Yogurt.. Cottage cheese.. Soup .. And protein shakes.. Managing 5oz per hour ... Just my quick update... -
Yes!!! I still didn’t have a BM. Surgery was Wednesday. I didn’t start a shake until today. And couldn’t finish the whole 8 oz of it. Had a few spoons of yogurt. How long did your BM take? I asked him what to take for gas and he told me simethicone. He didn’t even mention Gas X or suggest it.

If you were cold and tensed up and shivering, I could see that happening, but I've never experienced that. Stress or emotional upset make me VERY restricted. Flying in airplanes does too. The change in cabin pressure and the altitude seem to do a number on me for a day or two. I'm flying to Washington State next week, and don't look forward to my first night there. I'm also tight in the morning. Can only manage yogurt, cottage cheese or a smoothie.

First Vacation Since Gastric Sleeve Surgery: A Cruise- Any Advice?
Rev Me Up! replied to Amanda131's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love cruises - and how cool to have a kid-free, hubby-free vacation. You gals are going to have a great time!!! If I remember right, the buffet will usually have an omelette station for Breakfast, assorted yogurts, and cheeses / meats. Stick to those and grab a yogurt to stash in your purse for a mid morning snack. The cool thing about a cruise is that there is so much variety. in my opinion, the only tough thing will be telling the waiters repeatedly that you don't want all the food when you are at dinner. I remember cruising before the sleeve and having 2 dinners beause they kept bringing them out. Find your favorite things and enjoy them. You girls will be so busy, there won't be time to graze. Focus on the activities, buy some spa time, and take some tours. Make sure to have a snack in your bag and you will have an awesome time. Have fun!!! -
totally with you - love Fage greek yogurt, it has made me a greek yogurt snob. I usually eat the 0% one because they sell it in a big pack at Costco!
