    Expectations

the first two weeks are hell. no way around it. but you are half way there. the liquid phase sucks. but once you're done with that the mushy phase is nice. i'm about 20 days out. still not eating much but my options are way better. scrambled eggs with cheese refried Beans with cheese yogurt with fruit chicken Soup that's kinda what im eating right now. i don't have much of an appetite. but tonight im gonna try a little ground beef with my refried beans maybe. good luck! 15lbs in 7 days is amazing! i'm at 20lbs in 20 days so you're doing great!

    Surgery day!

hey guys. how's everyone doing. i did better last night. when i got home i had that chicken Soup (measured in my little 4oz cup) and then later i had Fage 0% yogurt with peaches. my scale lost it's mind this morning. i think it needs batteries. but i can feel im doing good still lol. i woke up feeling kinda icky but then i had fage yogurt with fruit for Breakfast and my multi Vitamin and i'm feeling pretty good. so that's promising. maybe the yogurt cultures help or something? idk @retrieverguy you gonna make 'em with vodka? do you use powder Jello? i only have the premade jello maybe i could melt it and make one in a few weeks
  3. My husband and I went to the shore with friends when I was just starting my soft foods phase. I portioned out little containers with a 1/4 cup of refried beans and a sprinkle of cheese, took along yogurt, protein shakes, and stuff to make scrambled eggs. Everyone knew about my surgery, so it wasn't a big deal. And at that point, I didn't really want to eat much, so I wasn't in envy of what everyone else was eating... the exceptions being lusting over an amazing-looking Greek salad they made one night, and having a passing desire to eat a homemade chocolate chip cookie.

    Food amounts

Glad to see this thread. I'm about 4.5 months out and about 15 lbs from goal. In the past week or so, I have been feeling like I need a bit more food. I have been at 800 calories max per day (per my surgeon and his staff), and I'm getting about 80 grams of protein. Last night after I had some Greek yogurt w/ some protein powder mixed in for a snack, I still felt like I needed something, so I ate a few almonds. It put me over the 800 calories... but I felt better. I need to talk to my NUT about where I should be calorie-wise at this stage. I don't want to sabotage my weight loss by eating too much, but I also don't want to mess up my metabolism by eating too little...

Protein bars.... How many in a day?

While it would be best to get your Protein and nutrients in by eating regular food, I would guess 1 Protein Bar a day max? This is just a guess. Is there a reason you can't get your calories in by eating regular food? Could you mix unflavored protein into yogurt or cocoa? Maybe eat some full fat cheese for extra calories?
  6. I had a LRNY GB on 05OCT2015. So as of today I am 22 days post. Down 32 pounds by my scale since the day of surgery, things were going really well until the end of last week. I weighed in on Friday as I always do, was down another 8 pounds and was happy. Then..... I gained a pound. Then another. As of this morning I am .8 lbs below last Friday's weigh in, but here is the thing: I was walking 5.21 miles every morning. (my body decided it likes the Military routine, so I have been getting up at 0400, not by choice) I eat < 800 calories a day. I consume > 100 grams of medical grade Protein (Unjury) daily I take in somewhere between 70-100 oz of Water a day. I usually have a Protein shake in the am prior to my walk For lunch it's another shake or perhaps a yogurt. dinner, well, it was shakes until last week, I had Ricotta bake twice, and have been eating refried Beans and cheese for the past two nights. I upped my am walk from 5.21 miles to 6.75 miles as 5.21 was just too easy, I had it down to a little over 1.5 hours and my heart rate was not high enough for long enough, by tacking on another trail (lots of hills!), before 10:00 I have 16K steps, 140 highly active minutes, about 7 miles traveled, 15 or so flights of stairs (I told you lots of hills on the new trail). By days, end I have burned no less than 4000 calories. HOW CAN I NOT BE LOSING WEIGHT? 4000 calories out, 800 in, is a 3200 calorie deficit, that's 1 pound a day. I don't get it, and I am starting to get really put out by this. So what is going on? Any advice before I go postal and adopt an Ethiopian diet of 200 calories a day and go into open revolt against my body? One (bordering on TMI) caveat, I am not having a daily BM or even every other day, I went from volcano ass, to solid BM's, but they have all but stopped, last one was 2 or 3 days ago. Back on Miralax this morning, I gotta get regular.

    Greek yogurt:( yuck !

The dannon oikos triple zero was a bit too tangy for me. I really like their light & fit greek yogurt in vanilla and toasted coconut vanilla...ohhh and they have a seasonal flavor out now called caramel apple that's pretty fantastic too!

    Doc says no fruit--EVER

Sounds a bit extreme. I could have fruit from week 3 (Purees) onward but in small amounts. I avoid bananas because A) I don't like them and they are really high in sugar. However anyone who likes them simply needs to plan accordingly. I wouldn't recommend any post-op eating more than half a banana at a time. My thought is this; too much sugar can be bad, but we need to learn how eat foods that can nourish out bodies. I'd rather eat real fruit and get all the Fiber, nutrients, etc... than any form of fake food or sugar sub. In moderation it can be a good thing. A small piece of fruit before a workout gives you energy and so that sugar gets burned off. A portion for me these days is a half and orange, or half an apple. I would never do a fruit smoothie that was all fruit. That's a sugar bomb. I will do half an orange, dash of lemon juice, tumeric powder, greek yogurt and a scoop of Protein powder. Taste like an Orange Julius.

    Flying with band

I felt tighter with flying and elevations. My band got so tight all I could eat was a teaspoon of yogurt which was a problem. My surgeon that I had back then didn't believe me but, he wasnt the one who had the band in either. You could always go get some fluid removed when traveling if you didn't want to worry about it, and get fluid put back in after your trip. I also had a friend who also had experienced the same.

    Greek yogurt:( yuck !

I'm not much on yogurt, but I did stumble on that Oikos Triple Zero Greek stuff during the months leading up to my pre-op diet. I stress that I don't care for yogurt in general.....but this stuff is great. I'm glad I found out about it. It needs nothing extra to taste really good. My husband who hasn't had any surgery and isn't overweight (brat lol). Loves the triple zero yogurt too. He actually likes almost all the "healthy" food that I'm eating also. Like the veggie chips (pre op) even my broth I drank lol. veggie chips? Do you make them or buy them I'm trying to healthy stuff I like ..it's a process These were before surgery. They were the Veggie Straws from the grocery store. I'll be 7 weeks this Wednesday and should be released to eat home made veggie chips! (Hopefully) lol!! I love the veggie straws but I was told they weren't as healthy as I thought! Seems like the things I think are heathy really are not! I am basically starting from scratch! I am very picky and find that this is very very difficult! I get to the point where I question having wls at all! Please tell me I not alone in this?

    SURGERY DATE 11/10/2015

JoeyEllen, tell me what you are eating in one day. I start my day with a green smoothie (spinach, apple, fresh ginger, truvia and coconut water). I also alternate Carnation Instant Breakfast with skim milk. Drink Water, propel, diet V8 or G2 throughout the day, all day long. I eat tomato Soup for lunch or a pureed healthy cream soup. I drink two Protein shakes, as well. dinner is broth, yogurt, SF Jello and a SF Popsicle before bed. I am taking Vitamins and B12. Make sure you are getting 60-80 grams of protein every day. That is the key to staving off the hunger. I will pray that you have a better day tomorrow! Stay strong!

    Doc says no fruit--EVER

If you want a smoothie, make one with plain yogurt, a splash of sugar-free flavored syrup (I like the vanilla and the hazelnut), almond milk or similar, a handful of ice, and about 1/4 cup frozen blueberries. If you have Protein powder, throw a scoop of that in. Blueberries are one of the fruits that are lowest in sugar. Just don't have a gigantic serving.

    Your first time..

I started eating berries and bananas pureed in my Protein shakes pretty early on - maybe the second week out. I've been eating (whole) berries on my yogurt since I was first moved from the pureed to soft food stage at four weeks out. I wasn't allowed to eat raw vegetables until month three. Lettuce still bothers me. I know some people have trouble with fruit with skins, too (I haven't tried those yet)

    Puréed food ideas

I never actually pureed any of my food. I had mashed potatoes, smooth soups, applesauce, yogurt, hummus, Jello, pudding, etc. I wouldn't puree what the rest of your family is eating if it's something that's not on your plan. For instance, if they're having Pasta, you can't have that even if it's pureed (according to my plan, yours may be different).
  16. Hi all. I am one week post op. I have lost 6lbs. but at first I gained 10lbs just from the surgery. It was unbelievable. But I also had a lot of fluids from the surgery-along with internal bleeding and two blood transfusions. I wasnt taking much in so I was surprised at the gain even though I had been warned. but things are good now. I can only take in a couple of teaspoons of food at a time like cream of chicken soup and cream of wheat. Not hungry but know I have to keep getting food into my body. Am on track with my vitamins. The incisions are bruised and so so sore. Hubby took off the first week. I thought I would be back at work this week but the set backs from the complications kind of made me slow down. getting my strength back and ready for this new beginning. I am on pudding-yogurt- with no fruit-cream of soups-for another week. Thought I would start posting on the Post Op side. yippie. So happy to be on this journey with so many cool people on here!!!

    Frozen yogurt

Can I add no sugar, low fat frozen yogurt to my protein shakes??

    I miss salad?

I'm not a bottle dressing person. I either make my own or I use salsa. Salad dressing is just an acid plus a fat emulsified. Sometimes that's just olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For fruity flavors I add a bit of smashed fruit. I'll toss in any herbs and seasonings I like. I've also used smashed avocado, tahini and yogurt as my fat, pickle juice or apple cider vinegar as my acid. I haven't bought a bottle of dressing in over 5 years.
  19. I made a poppyseed chicken casserole and it was delicious. I pureed the chicken and substituted the sour cream for Greek yogurt. I thought I'd miss the sour cream but honestly the plain greek yogurt tasted the same (plus it has a ton of protein). I found my recipe on Pinterest.

    I miss salad?

Also keep in mind not every salad has to have lettuce. Chopped veg makes a good salad. Sliced thin yellow squash & zucchini with onions & white bean or chicken breast served with a lite dressing or vinaigrette is great. Apples, walnuts and chicken makes a nutritious salad and you can swap the mayo for plain Greek yogurt to save calories & up the protein. I do that with mock chicken and use lettuce to make wraps. It's not a ton of lettuce but I still get that nice, crispy crunch from the lettuce and apple.

    October sleevers

@beauty29@sasechick Post op 1 week today. A few questions . I am eating small portions of yogurt , cottage cheese, sliced chicken , sugar free ice pops, per my dr instructions. Also drinking high protein , low sugar drinks, I wonder how long the gassy feeling after eating and drinking lasts? And does anyone feel nausea after eating? Please add me to any emails or face book accounts Tropical37@gmail.com
  22. I honestly pureed everything I was feeding my family for dinner. Hotdish, pork chops, Soups, etc... but here are some quick fix pureeds. Ricotta & Mozzarella with sauce (I liked a pesto or sun dried tomato sauce) Cottage cheese with dry ranch dressing mixed into it. Refried Beans with a little cheese and taco sauce Pureed chicken with low fat greek yogurt & hot sauce - heat it up and mix well tuna with low fat mayo and pickle juice Here are a few to get you started. But honestly, it may not look the greatest but puree what ever your family is having for dinner. (if you are married) I pureed a normal person sized portion and used the leftovers for extra meals and meals to bring to work.
  23. Hey April. I'm Lisa. Also having surgery Nov 9th - in NYC. Started my 2-week liquid diet today. For Breakfast, I had 1c almond milk, 15 ice cubes, 2TBSP PB2 powder, 1/2 banana and 1 packet of unjury chocolate Protein powder -- blended into a smoothie. I've actually been having these daily for about 5 weeks now. My pre-surgery diet is full liquids - I know some others get to have a light meal on theirs. I made a worksheet last night with my day's dietary plan (2 Unjury shakes, 1 Premier Protein shake, a yogurt and sugar free Jello for snacks). A written plan works best for me so it's all ironed out before my day starts. Just need to remind myself to drink Water. Never been a big water drinker, but I'll learn. Good luck!!
  24. I had some grape leaves and kibbee with some cucumber yogurt yumm!!!
  25. Hello All, I am month and half out and I am having trouble preparing hot foods. My current menu consist of eggs, yogurt, tuna... But I would love some hot food. I bought a can of refried beans but have no idea what to do with them (lol). I heard that some people make turkey chili I would love some but don't know what to add to chili and how much can I have. If anyone has any ideas or recipes I would greatly appreciate. Thank you
