I am now down a total of 120 pounds. I loose about 15-20 pounds and then I stall for at least a month or more and them I start losing again. I have no regrets. i have gone from a size 4x to 1X so far. Be patient with your weight loss it will happen. Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app

    4 years post op nightmare

I’m sorry to hear you struggle. Regain can beat you down mentally. As you can see on the site, you’re not the only one with a regain or had a revision. Its not easy to get back on track.... its work. But, It can be done. It's not for me to say if you have stretched your surgery back to full size. That’s between you and your surgeon. You may want to consider counseling before a revision. If you’re eating behavior is not addressed, you may stretch your next surgery.

    May Sleevers...where are you?

Congrats to all of you that have gotten your surgery date! That is so exciting! It is nice to have this support group to share the journey. We can share our fears, our experiences and thoughts as we go along the journey. Matthew282, here in Delaware, we are required to be on the 2-week liquid diet for some reason. They say that the insurance companies are now requiring it. I am having a revision from band to sleeve. I was banded in 2008 and wasn't required to do any type of pre-surgery diet, so it's all new for me too. I start tomorrow. I'm sure I'll be on here looking for support!! =) We can do this! Here's to a healthier, more active life!

    Realize Band Slip

Update on revision. Temporarily postponed. After discussion with PA and surgeon and what they were planning on doing, (and also surgeon was having to postpone due to death in the family), we've decided to refill and slowly bring it back up, assuming no problems. All he was going to do was either put in another stitch or undo the flap of stomach that the pull over the band to hold it in place...undo that and possibly change the location of the flap. They believe everything is still in tact. So PA put in 4ccs today and I will see how it goes and if all goes well, in a month I will go back and have them do an X-ray and if band looks llike it's where it should be, they will slowly over the next few months bring it back up to restriction level. But I have a strong feeling that I may have just been overfilled. and then with the throwing up, forced the band into a position it didn't need to be. I had the option to go with the other surgeon, but I think I want to try this first and use revision as my last option. But I am going to stick with only the PA doing the fills, so that at least there's consistency with who is doing them. I don't think the surgeon does as many and the PA says that he usually is able to pull more out than the surgeons. Because if I count all the ccs that were in there, I thought I should have only had 7 inserted...well somehow or another I ended up with 10cc, unless my body is mysteriously producing fill all on its own..:) Right now feeling okay. Staying on a soft food diet for a few days to get it a rest after getting the fill. Neither one lectured me on the 8 lb weight gain. I've read some users on here that just by removing the fill and letting everything rest and get back to it's proper location that it can fix the issue and PA even said they're had some patients that that has done the job. So we'll see. I'm just glad to have at least part of my buddy back :) I know it's probably all mental but just knowing that there's fill in there, my food grazing/craving cycle is non-existent right now. So onward I go...whoo-hoo :) trisha pennreporter:thumbup::confused::thumbup::thumbup:

    My experience with VG.

He's referring to a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy... also known as a Vertical Gastrectomy. Basically, it's the first part of a DS... with no intestinal rerouting. 80% or so of the stomach is removed... and one is left with a long tube like stomach. It's a restrictive-only operation that has shown good results. Some people who are considering a Band may go for this operation, especially if getting regular fills would be a problem for them. It's also a popular revision for Bandsters who lose their Band for whatever reason, but don't want to go for a new Band, RNY, or DS.
  12. I am scheduled to have a revision from VSG to bypass on Jan 5. Keep wondering if I am doing the right thing. But I have been having horrible reflux and heartburn even on Protonix so I keep thinking I have to do something. I hope Deezjeanz that everything goes well for you - you will have to let me know how it goes.

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

Are you thinking of revising to the sleeve ? Unfortunately there are no guarantees but there have been many who have done amazing with the sleeve after the band, I wish I had been one of them.

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

Also, if you are considering more surgery, you may want to look into revising to bypass rather than making your sleeve smaller. There are a lot of people with sleeves on these boards who end up revising to bypass (I'm not saying the sleeve doesn't work for lots of people!) It seems you still have a lot of weight you want to lose and that may work for you better.

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

I'm on my second band and am trying to get a revision to RNY approved. The reason I'm going with RNY is because I'm worried about exactly what you're posting about. I know my metabolism is completely messed up, between my PCOS and the band. Unfortunately, I'm going to be starting almost from scratch, because I've regained almost everything I lost with the band (I went from 225 to 135, and I'm back to 211 now).

    Vegan or Vegetarian RNY Mentor

Hi , I am scheduled for May 30 th for a revision from sleeve to possibly RNY , and I am a vegetarian . Have been for about 5 years . I do eat fish , almond milk, cheese, eggs. So I'm not Vegan . But I do not consume chicken , pork, beef etc. when is your surgery scheduled for? Where are you from?
  17. WLS, take 3 Well, the word came down today, and I am now scheduled for VSG surgery Oct 21. The insurance company is picking up about half the tab because of the lap-band removal; the rest of the procedure comes out of my pocket. This looks to be an interesting and different path than the one I've been on, and hopefully ends up in a much better place. I still think the lap-band is a great procedure for those who can cope with it, but my body simply insisted on being in that 2%. (Lap-band 05/2007, high 292, low 178, slip, revision, slip, current 220 and headed up)

In order to hold ur date it is $1000 deposit, which also gets deducted off the total of $8750. It holds ur place and you can change it at anytime, it's also non refundable. I'm not worried about the border because I've crossed the border before , not this border but the tx/matamoros border, and nothing happened. He's a little more costly but I went with my feeling and how he treated me and always responds to my messages and calls. Susan his assistant will answer all ur questions too. If you go to his website you can try out financing on his website . I got approved but it fell through because he's not certified here in the USA. He has done about 4200 sleeves and his leak rate is very low. The leaks happened only 5-6 times and it was either a revision on someone eating a sandwich or something while healing. Their fault not his. I'm happy with my decision and look forward to his help each day.

Nota I was so worried about you and I am glad that your surgery went well and you still have your band. How you doing now? We were never sure when my slip happened but I was living with it for a long time, I was unfilled and still had major pb issues on solid food. I wasn't an emergency like you were as I waited 3 weeks for my revision and new band. BTW I had the old 4cc band that they no longer make...interesting isnt it? When I'm having a hard time losing I sometimes think that getting by-pass would be so easy but like you I chose this surgery for a reason. I'd rather not have all of the major complications that come with the other types of surgeries. If the band somehow fails me again I may consider it but for now I am healthy. Oh and it helps that the person that I knew who had bypass that made me second guess myself... has gained back weight. Not sure if I can go to the next meeting

Here I Go (My Journey Thus Far)

My question is, are you having a lap band, sleeve, or the gastric bypass? When they did a revision from lap band to gastric bypass. I had a drainage ball put into my left side. I did have some complications with that drainage ball and my doctor put me on some medication as well. Anyhow, everyone is different so everyone heals in a different rate and every surgery is different as well. With that being said, I'm only speaking from my experience and to let you know I'm still in the healing process. I just had my surgery on June 21st, I'm still in the liquid phase and getting ready to transition to soft foods next Wednesday. I wish you the best of luck on your new journey and New Life because so far this is been hard but very rewarding. I'm now 19lb (178lb current weight) lighter and in just the weeks and I feel amazing, I can feel my health improving slowly. So back to the point, as for healing time I think one week the minimum and three the max. Perhaps, you may be different, perhaps you only need a few days. I say one week minimum because you'll be bloated with air and it will be very hard to come out for the first few days unless you walk consistently to help pass that gas. A little tip of advise; you will need to make sure you buy some chewable Gas-X that helps wonders, get a pillow for when you need to cough because you will coughing and sneezing at some point. Also try to concentrate on your water and protein intake, so far I haven't had any problems with that. And be on top of your vitamins or you will lose a lot of hair. If you have any questions feel free to ask because I'm still going through it. Best of luck to you. Sent from my LG-K540 using BariatricPal mobile app

    March-April Rny-ers

Wed 5/10 will be 4wks post op, slow moving only 13lbs dwn since 4/11, 11lbs from pre-op so 24kbs in 6wks. Getting in all my water is a struggle, I avg 50-60oz, protein avgs 60gr. Still cannot do soft scramble or hard boiled eggs. Beans are my fav for now still. 1/2 small baked sweet potato, no skin or chopped roasted skinless chicken works wells for me. Tried baked organic salmon & it was delish. Ricotta bake was so-so. I returned to work 8 days post op. I’m still exhausted everyday, low energy big time. Again, I’m a revision from 2011 sleeve to mgb. Any other revisions twins out there & how is your progress?
  22. I'm glad you didn't have problems but please read below because in Canada A LOT of people did..35 out of 36 people had to have the Realize Band removed - I copied and pasted this from Health Canada's Website Swedish Adjustable Gastric Band: erosion and other reported incidents leading to explantation The Swedish Adjustable Gastric Band (SAGB) is an implantable, adjustable gastric band indicated for use in the treatment of morbid obesity in adults.1 It consists of a reinforced silicone gastric band fitted around the stomach and an injection port placed under the skin and connected to the band by tubing. The SAGB is designed to reduce food intake and can be inflated or deflated as needed after implantation to meet weight-loss requirements without the need for further surgery. The SAGB was originally licensed for sale in Canada in November 2002. A modified version of the device, the SAGB Quick Close (SAGB-QC), was added to the licence as part of a device licence amendment in August 2004.2 Although band erosion is listed among the possible adverse events in the device labelling for physicians,2 the device labelling for patients states that the overall rate of reoperation following placement of the SAGB is low and that extensive use of the SAGB has led to a method where failure is uncommon.3 By definition, band erosion is "a situation where a part of the band has eroded through the full-thickness gastric wall and migrated into the lumen."4 This represents a total failure of the gastric banding procedure.5 From Nov. 1, 2002, to June 15, 2007, Health Canada received 19 reports of incidents suspected of being associated with the SAGB and 17 with the SAGB-QC. Thirteen of the 36 reports described cases of band erosion necessitating removal of the band. Other reports described incidents such as band slippage, band leakage, abscess, dysphagia and regurgitation. In 35 of the 36 reports, band explantation was reported as an outcome. Although reported rates of band erosion vary across published studies, evidence in the medical literature suggests that the frequency of band erosion is approximately linear over time following surgery, with erosions still being diagnosed 5 or more years after implantation.4 5 Since band erosion is often asymptomatic or only mildly symptomatic initially and since the condition is best diagnosed by gastroscopy, which may not be included in the follow-up of asymptomatic patients, the true incidence of band erosion is underestimated in the literature and its diagnosis can be markedly delayed.4 5 Moreover, band erosion is associated with dense scarring and distortion of tissues, which can complicate revision procedures.5 The complication rates and outcomes associated with SAGB and reported in the literature are variable. Although the authors of some studies have concluded that use of the SAGB demonstrates acceptable levels of safety and effectiveness,6 7 others have reported high long-term complication and failure rates and poor long-term outcomes.4 5 The medical literature suggests that, until reliable selection criteria for patients at low risk for long-term complications are determined, alternative treatment options should be considered and gastric banding should be performed only in carefully selected and fully informed patients.5 Andrew Gaffen, BSc, DDS; Gina Coleman, MD; Health Canada References Swedish Adjustable Gastric Band [Canadian instructions for use]. Anyone else indecisive?

frauhowe, your post was really interesting to me. I realized something. At 53 (last year) my primary told me "Jeff, it's all about to go to hell for you. You've been "borderline" on lots of things for a while now, but unless you do something drastic, in 3 months you're going to be on diabetes and cholesterol medication. You are going downhill and as you age there is not a damn thing I can do about it, unless you lose some weight." Rather than depress me, it helped me decide that I wanted the lap band even if I paid for it out of pocket. That was the final straw for me. In 5-6 years, at 60, if I am thinner and still not a diabetic and still without heart trouble, then I will gladly have a revision surgery if I need it. I will probably be healthy enough to weather it, since I am losing with my band. I would never have initially had the courage to do a sleeve or bypass. Now, I am not so afraid. But for some of us, we have to have training wheels. I got the band thinking it was for life. I realize now that if it isn't, I can handle it. But what I couldn't handle was any more time at 405. For people who aren't on that ledge, as I was, the decision can be hard. I was always the "healthy" fat person, and it does catch up with you.
  24. I'm 10 lbs. from my new goal I set at the time of my surgery. Since my revision from VSG to RNY in August 2021, about 9 to 10 lbs. a month, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. I've lost about 65 lbs. in 5 months.
