    NSV's for the Merry Losers

Sherri, Keep your chin up. We are all working at an extremely difficult task. One that we thought we had all the necessary tools for but were all very naive about. This is going to be tougher than we thought but every day there will be something new for us revel in. Keep looking for them when you feel like you aren't making progress. We are looking forward to hear all of your nsv's

    NSV's for the Merry Losers

The NSV's keep coming. Yesterday, I had to order new bras. I have gone down another size. I started in a 44D and now will be in a 38D. I also found two more pair of pants in my closet that I can now wear and both of them still had the tags attached. Had to have bought them 8-10 years ago. Also had a box in the bottom of my drawer that when I cleaned out one of the closets in the beginning of my journey were too small and needed hemming. Well, one pair of the jeans fell off me when I tried them on Right to the charity bag they went.

    NSV's for the Merry Losers

Wow, this thread has dropped off the radar, but I'm bringing it back with not one but TWO NSV's!! 1. I went on my first date in 15 months on the weekend and it was wonderful!! We met for coffee mid afternoon, talked for hours, went for a walk and ended up going out to dinner. Late in the afternoon, the lapband came up in conversation and he said he couldn't believe that I was ever heavy and that I was (and I quote!) "dropdead gorgeous right now and if I lose more weight I'd be blinding!" Over the top but MAN was that nice to hear! 2. We WALKED! For an HOUR! Down the port waterfront, out on the sea wall, across town, all over - and I DIDN'T GET OUT OF BREATH OR EVEN BREAK A SWEAT!! That was before the lapband came up and he never even suspected that 9 months ago, I couldn't walk to the end of the block and still hold a conversation at the same time! WHOOHOOO! I feel GREAT!! :crying:

    NSV's for the Merry Losers

i have had problem's fitting into the seats in movie theatres, hairdresser chair's, etc. Guess what. I fit. I'm so excited. My weight loss has stalled the last few weeks, but I think the inches are still flying off. I keep noticing my clothes getting looser and looser. it feels really good. My next NSV goal is to not only fit into the hairdresser's chair, but to also be able to close those jacket cover up's they give you. It doesn't protect your clothes if it won't close.

    NSV's for the Merry Losers

so.... today was a very nice NSV for me  After 3 weeks of going to gym everyday but weekends... I hit the 3 Mile mark at 42 1/2 min.... I'm one of those lazy bums that dont like to run or speed walk or even jog to place.... i'm more like... they can wait for me :cursing: So... I'm hoping in a week or so..that I will hit 3k mark at 35min :cursing:
  8. I have a lapband victory this week haha (not a NSV I guess). Random.. but I went to American Idol on Thursday. I had breakfast around 9, then i had a banana at around 12. Then I didn't eat anything till about 9pm (from waiting inline, and the taping and all that) and I wasn't hungry. it's so weird! I even said to my friend in the car, it's the strangest thing, I should be hungry! Oh yea I know mentally I think I'm eating this perfect diet. But I know I'm not. I know sometimes I go over my calories but I justify it. If the scale doesn't move I go back to journaling to see where I miss stepped.. Yea, I haven't had after care either. I could bother them.. haha but I don't feel the need. I really don't need another fill. 41 pounds is perfect! I'm at 48lbs. 1-2lbs is totally normal (if you average it out, that's 10lbs a month!). Maybe just check up on your diet and make sure you are eating 1000 calories and not you "think" you are eating 1000 calories... up the exercise.. vary your diet, eat a little more.. or a little less.. sometimes I think the body just gets stuck in a rut.

Way to go Darcy! A work out and a great NSV! Two weeks from today I have my Dr. appointment! I can't wait to find out everything. It seems like it is taking forever! Betty
  10. Happy Anniversay Vicky! Congrats on the NSVs! Jess I saw your post about onderland on another thread. Good job! Doesn't it feel great?!?
  11. Hi FLORIDAYS... I was banded on 12/3 and went in for my first fill this past Wednesday. On my pre-op visit on 11/20 I weighed 269. By 12/3 on Surgery day I was 258. When I went in for my fill I was 243. 2 days later I weighed in today at 241. My doctor was very pleased with my progress so far. I was a little disheartened that he didn't want to give me a fill because I am losing at a good pace. But he was very encouraging and really made me feel like I am doing well without the fill. So far I haven't gotten sick at all and am having no problems with any foods. I am not having any heartburn or nausea. The doctor said that if he acts too aggresively and gives me a fill he is afraid that I will start having some of those problems. He said that he felt that I would just be back next week asking him to take it out. But he did say that when I return next month he thought I would be ready for a fill. But even still...only a little. I had alot of mixed feelings at first. I was kinda excited about getting the fill...I guess just ready to move on to the next phase and possibly loose more. But by the time I left the Doctor's office I felt good about it. The doctor was so very encouraging and really acted enthusiatic about my achievement so far. The recommended weight loss by Allergan - the makers of the band - is 2.0 - 2.5 pounds per week. Since 11/20 I have lost a total of 28 pounds. I had lost 10 pounds in the previous month. For a total of 38 pounds lost since October. I am estatic! I had a great NSV victory this week. All of my clothes are getting pretty baggy. I went to get just one outfit to reward myself. I had to go down 2 sizes in both my jeans and sweater. After I got home and tried it on for my husband and kids their remarks nearly brought me to happy tears. My daughter said that it was hard to tell just how much I had lost because my clothes were so big. My sons were like "Wow mom - you look so much smaller". And my husband was VERY encouraging! I hope and pray that I can continue on this well. And I wish the best of luck everyone else too. We are all on this journey together!

Gone for Good Club - April 2006

Thank you ALL so much for all of the sweet and encouraging comments both here and on the before and after thread. I love you all too! Kathy, those are the stubborn 22s I mentioned in my NSV. I cant believe Im comfortably wearing my new 18s today, yet those 22s are so tight. Could be the cut. You'll notice those are the tapered legged jeans - that went out of style years ago! LOL I've been wearing old clothes that I've saved from previous weight loss attempts. These new 18s are lower cut (just above the hips) and slightly flared legs! I'm wearing bell bottoms!! First time since the early 70s. :clap2: Ok, here are my numbers for the week: C 246 (-61 lbs total, -4 this week)

Penni - lotsa people around here are sick, too! Sorry you're having a hard time with it! A guy I work with had a cold and cough and was just checked into the hospital for pneumonia. Take Care of yourself and for pete's sake, stay out of that rain! I have an "SV" this morning.... I am officially at my lowest weight since I had my second kid (13 years ago in 3 days). This is pretty exciting stuff! A while back I did Atkins and lost down to 184.5 where I stayed for approximately 1 day before I started gaining again. It was a really good one day though! Today my weight for weigh in is 184. Yee haw! Ok, AND a side "NSV" - I went to Dillard's last night and bought a size 14 cute little white jacket - may wonders never cease!!!!! 14??????? Me thinks my big butt is still a little bigger than a 14, but hey - a jacket is a good start! C184 (-1.5 lbs)

Yee haw indeed my friend!! :clap2: Marypetunia - Grats on hitting the -50 pound mark!! You'll be added to the GFG Club's Honors page!! :clap2: LShasha - OMG! I'm so happy to hear this!! Musta been Water weight, yeah? Skbishop - 7.5 pounds!! :faint: Thebestme - I can't wait to see your bandiversary picture thread! One year.. wow! :huggie: :drum: Vegaswildflower - I laughed so hard when I saw your siggy!! Love it! Jbabat - Welcome to LBT and to bandland! You're doing very well and yep, it's possible. September Was Your Progress?

Bless your heart, someone who is actually shorter than me. I am almost 5'0". I think 4' 11" and a half. My doctor's goal for me is 130. I am currently going between 185 and 187 which is fine with me since so far I don't have much hanging skin and don't want any. I seem to be losing about 6 lbs a month now. Hopefully in 6 months I will be down to 150. Anything is better than 240. I have a new NSV. I can now put my pants on without sitting down and can cross my legs at the knee now.
  16. Being able to sit comfortably in airplane seats. Being able to walk/trot without hiding my heavy breathing. Having more room in my car. (Downsized from van to a sexy equinox but have limited room). There are othrrs but my Token NSV (non scale victory) will be being able to fit what once was my favorite winter skirt. Its been around 10-15 years. I kept it as a visual reminder & it now hangs on the closet door across the room from my bed.

You know you lost weight when

While out on my walk during break time i caught sight of my reflection next to my friend (who is probably about 120ish) and i didn't want to crawl in a hole and die. In fact i felt quite proud. Also... i now weigh LESS than my husband!!! First time in my life I weigh less than the guy I'm with. Still very very far to go, and am a chronic slow loser, but I'm enjoying every little NSV!!

    Embrace the Stall

It seems that at least 50% of the posts on BariatriPal are bemoaning a stall. Daily, and sometimes hourly, I am reading about how someone ONLY lost x number of pounds and now the scale hasn't moved in ___ [fill in the blank] days/months, etc. Oh no, they write, I am a failure/unique/my surgery didn't work/life is not fair, ... Why am I in a stall? I know I am exaggerating but I think you get the idea. Guess what? STALLS are a NORMAL part of the PROCESS of losing weight. If you want to lose weight, you will stall. Not just once, but over and over. And, guess what? A stall is where your body actually does the hard work of becoming smaller. It takes a lot of work and energy to dismantle a structure that has been holding up, in some cases, hundreds of pounds. For those who think they have to DO something to somehow "break a stall" (in my opinion, you do not break a stall, you just ride them out), here is my response: What can you do to "break" a stall? 1) STAY OFF THE SCALE Relax and stay off the scale if it bothers you so much. Weigh no more than once a week, or even less often. Weighing only at your doctor's appointments early in the process is a good strategy if your mood and self-worth are dictated by the numbers on the scale. 2) PICK UP A TAPE MEASURE In addition to using the numbers on the scale to measure your progress, take your measurements. Inches lost are also a great way to see physical progress when the scale isn't moving. Most people see the biggest physical changes in their body when the scale seems stuck. 3) TRACK YOUR PROTEIN AND WATER AND MEET OR EXCEED YOUR PROTEIN AND WATER GOAL EVERY DAY As long as you are getting in all your protein and water and following your NUT and surgeon's instructions, you are doing what you are supposed to do. If you aren't getting in all your protein and water, then increasing your protein and water is something you can do (and should be doing anyway whether or not you are in a stall). 4) EXERCISE If you aren't exercising, then you can exercise (and should be whether or not you are in a stall). You can start slowly by walking or even moving more around the house. Exercising will help you feel better, tone your skin and build fat-burning muscle. 5) MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR NUT If you are unsure or unclear about what you are supposed to be, or should not be eating, then make an appointment with your NUT (which you should be doing whether or not you are in a stall). 6) REASSESS AND REEVALUATE About the only good result I see that comes from complaining about a stall is when you take an honest look at what you are doing and realign with the program recommended by your NUT and surgeon. Have you started eating more outside of your plan? Are you restricting calories? Are you eating enough carbs and protein for your exercise? Are you taking your vitamins? Are you eating often enough? Are you eating slowly with protein first? Sometimes, all you need to DO is go back to basics. 7) JOURNAL One of the biggest things I have noticed from the various posts is how anxious and out-of-control some people feel when they notice a stall. Journaling can help you gain some perspective and deal with some of the emotional turmoil. -- Write about how you are feeling about the stall and your weight loss, and surgery in general. -- Write about why you had the surgery in the first place. -- Write about what life was like before surgery. -- Write about what you hope and dream about accomplishing in the future. -- Write about your fears. -- Write about your NSVs. -- Make a gratitude list. -- Make a bucket list. -- Write a letter to your old self; write a letter to your new self. Just write. 8) SEEK HELP Stalls are when too many people seem to revert to old, counterproductive dieting behaviors (restricting calories, over exercising, bingeing, etc.). If this is you, then another thing you can DO is to talk to a counselor or therapist or consider joining a bariatric support group or a twelve-step group like Overeater's Anonymous. The discomfort of being in a stall can also drive people to develop new, unhealthy coping habits or even transfer addictions. This is where you want to marshall all the resources you have available to you and use them. The last, and most important thing you can DO is: 9) EMBRACE THE STALL Stalls are a normal and natural part of the process. Our bodies are complex systems and not simple machines. Stalls go hand-in-hand with weight loss. If you had Weight Loss Surgery, then you probably want to lose a significant amount of weight. So, get ready to embrace the many stalls you will experience as your body is transformed. It will be worth it.

My NSV today is this. For the second time in three days, I am moving my younger daughter's college stuff out of her 14th floor dorm and bringing a carload home. Although my joints are hurting from my arthritis, I have not been out of breath even once. This is amazing to me, because less than six months ago, I could not walk even half a block with empty arms without getting winded. Now less than nine weeks postop, I can do all of this with ease and feel so much healthier. The surgery has truly saved my life.

I love all of the "little details " that can mean so much to each individual. I still have a ways to go ,but am feeling so much better overall. I'm thankful for my health and being able to chase after my 2year old. I went out for my sister's bday last night and was told by her friend that I looked "timeless....just like you did in high school!!!! " I also wore a fitted size 16 that still had some room in it!! I am thankful to be able to share these little things with people who actually "get" what it is like to go through these little obstacles that overtime we accept as being normal. I sat down with my husband in that fitted dress and didn't feel the need to get a pillow and cover my stomach! Big plus right there buddy!! Ready for my next NSV!!

well I know I've just lost 20 lbs. so far however I just had a NSV. My neighbor, whom I haven't seen since I started the pre-op diet two weeks ago, just saw me outside and said I looked great and looked like I had lost a little weight. I beamed and said yes, I'm trying to watch what I eat, lol. Just made me feel good so I thought I'd share. happy moment, can't wait for more moments like that
  25. That's so awesome hahaha. Congrats on your success, and thanks for sharing that NSV. You are rocking your sleeve.
