Special K - thanks for the cartoons - always nice to have a quick grin on this board. Although I have to say, I grin quite a lot while reading this - we have a pretty funny bunch! I wonder if that's just a random thing, or if fat people learn to use humor as a defensive weapon. Yay on yr dog, Lisa! That's great news! I had an NSV yesterday: I'm now wearing pants that are 6" smaller in the waist than the ones I was wearing for my initial weigh-in in January. On the minus side, my hips are sore - I think it's the joints rather than the muscles, although I feel it in the muscles. I'm going to take it easy on walking for the next couple of days. Last night, I had a nice indulgence, something I'd been looking forward to for the last few days: I had Soup for dinner, then went out to the Dessert Truck (a mobile high-end dessert truck that magically appears every night from six to midnight a half mile from my house) and had a chocolate bread pudding. I ate it in the park in the light rain, and then I got up and walked for an hour by way of penance/exercise.

Evening, Violets.. We're baaaaaaaack. It was a great meeting with very interesting speakers. One of the pastors had gastric bypass in January and he had lost 80#. He really needed to lose it fast for health reasons, but he ended up in the hospital for 5 weeks with sepsis. I tried not to rub it in that we only spent one night. I sure did notice how many overweight people were at this meeting and I know I would have been one of them were it not for the band. I can't tell you what a great feeling it is to not be the heaviest one in the group. Well, I'm guessing you all have had that same nsv, and it's a very motivating one. I'm going to go watch the second half of the Pistons game and the Tigers and then head to the hot tub if it isn't raining and then to bed. Everyone have a good evening..

My very first NSV!!!!

That is a cool NSV, way to go!! -
This is actually quite comical. Since I am eating no junk food it is sticking around a lot longer. My husband and daughter were having cheetos last night and brought them back into the kitchen complaining that they were stale. Hahahahaha....never would have had stale cheetos before!! So there you have it my first NSV is having the ability to keep cheetos in my house long enough to have to throw them out!

Hey Megan..good to see you back on the boards! Isn't shopping in a "normal" store a great feeling? I bought a pair of size 16 jeans at Nordstrom this week...SCORE!! Congrats to you on your great NSV and have fun showing off your "slimmer self" in Key West!! -Amy

Way to go Georgia. That is huge. I shows that you are really changing your habits, not just following a "plan". My latest NSV.....I went and got measured for and bought 2 new bras yesterday. I have gone from a 42DD to a 40D. WOOHOO!!

I don't have to shop in the "plus size" section
jnbwilds replied to ::tracy::'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What an awesome NSV!! I'm so close! I can buy XL tops at normal stores now, but my bottom half (really just my bottom) still won't squeeze into anything smaller than an 18. It does so much to one's self esteem to get out of the plus sized stores! Nothing against Lane Bryant - they've been good to me over the years....but it is time for me to move on! -
Hi everyone. Just thought I would share my latest NSV. I have always had a major sweet tooth, I think it was pretty much my downfall. I ate them all the time. I occasionally still get some sweets to eat every now and then. Well tonight, I saw some of those fruit slice sugar coated gummy candies (love them) and I bought some. Now in the past I would have eaten the whole bag at once (yeah, that's how bad of a sweet tooth I had) and tonight I only ate 2. I am so proud of myself because I think that is more of an accomplishment then not eating any. After 2 of them it just tasted sooooooo overly sweet. This has truly been a lifestyle change and I am just excited that I have overcome another weight loss hurdle- self control.

Hi LapBand Losers (pun intented:wink_smile:) Been awhile, sorry and I've missed reading all the double V posts (and I agree our posts are the best and most entertaining---yes I'm biased) Wanted to share with you my NSV, leaving for Key West on Sunday for work--yea I know life's tough:thumbup:. Anyway back to my NSV...guess where I shopped for all my clothes??? NY and Co!!!!! Biggest size there is an 18 and I'm sure that you've all had that feeling where your looking at the pants before trying them on and kinda size up wether it will fit you or not, praying that it will but knowing that it won't...well guess what, not only did they fit but they were too big!!! Couldn't believe it, I shopped in a normal clothing store and didn't even have to get the biggest size:w00t:!!! I have a box in my room that I'm filling with my "too big" clothes and when it's full it's going to Wings For Success, which provides clothes for women who are getting back into the workplace after abuse. My loss is their gain (again, pun intended lol)

NSV is non scale victory. PB is when food won't go down so it comes up. It stands for productive burp. Sometimes it's just a burp and food comes with it. I have had regular old throwing up when I was too tight. Luckily, I don't have that problem anymore. -

I don't mind it much except for the wrinkles Yvonne NSV - Non Scale Victory = walking up a flight of stairs without dieing:lol: SV - I haven't ever seen this one - but I would guess Scale Victory PB - Productive Burp - it's when you get stuck (golf ball in chest) and you will slime (saliva) and you will throw up the offending object - but it's not really throwing up - but more like a burp with food in it. Hi All and thanks for all the welcomes and best wishes. Saw the Dr today and he was happy with my progress (10 lbs since op on 4/23rd and 25 total now). He has moved me to diet of mushies for next 2 weeks and then to soft foods the following 2 weeks. I'm so excited to have more options to eat. My first fill is not until May 30th. He said to start working out slowly and build up. I had broken my right foot on Feb 18th so I am still healing from that too and I didn't tell him about that because I didn't want that to affect my having surgery. I took off my boot from the Orthopedist and wore my tennis shoes, walking very delicately, when I went in to see him twice before surgery and told him I had a small turn of the ankle which was healing fast..... He did say, "Well you have to be mobile to be able to have the surgery" and I told him that I was up and about and on my eliptical so it didn't become an issue. I am up to 15 minutes on the eliptical as regular walking is still too slow and probably not helping much excercise wise and want to work that out to more but I can't do my health rider (which is like a rower) yet because that pulls on my abdominals. I did have questions on what is NSV and SV and PB? Gotta get up on my lapbandonics.... Its a happy day for me:thumbup:. Have a great weekend everyone. Yvonne -

sometimes the NSV are better than the SV. At least now I am losing about2# per week, but know it may change anytime. But the change in how my clothes fit and how I feel is a great measurement of this ban helping me to wor for my own improvement of mind, body and lifestyle.. -
Good afternoon, Violets!! Just got back from an extra shift at the hospital. Next week is nursing week so they have lots of extra things that needed to get done. I'm home now with Ethan and will be here til his daddy picks him up and we leave for our church meeting. Had an NSV at the hospital today. The volunteer at the registration desk where I sign in and out was on the phone when I signed in. When I was leaving she said.. "I couldn't talk to you when you came in, but I want to know what's happened to you. You've lost a lot of weight!" That made my day!! Of course I told her about the lapband. Everyone just gives me a stunned look when I say I've had lapband surgery. I'm so glad to hear you talking about those little guys who are behind in their speech. Ethan is that way. He'll be 2 June 2nd and only says a few words. He's smart, but really delayed in speech. Hopefully mom and dad will get him tested after he turns 2 to see if he needs some speech therapy or if he's fine and is just delayed a bit. Time to go read the foot book to him for the gazillionth time! Left foot, left foot, right foot, right...............and on and on and on and on..............

Happy May Day. Got up and went to our monthly family breakfast and a cousin serenaded us with a May Day song and she had a May Day basket for her Mom. It was so nice. We had a great time. From there we went to Ace Hardware and I bought my tomato plants. Gonna give it a try this year. Bought a few flowers to get potted. Hubby drove there and I told him I would drive home. Funny thing. I got in and took off and didn't realize that I hadn't moved the chair back. Hubby and I are both the same height but with my extra padding around the middle and back, I always have to move the seat back. Well, no more. It was so cool to realize that. I guess that's my latest NSV. Hope you all have a great day.

I could have had more, but just decided against it. Didn't want that many, just got caught up in my first basemans 40th b-day. I'm going to limit myself to 2 tops each game night. Just have to make sure to bring a couple bottles of water to reach for in the cooler instead of a beer. Forgot about another nsv last night. The last few years, after playing doubleheaders, I'd go out with the guys and sit around for awhile. By the time I got home, my knees were so stiff and sore, I could barely get out of the truck. Last night, I didn't even think about them when I got home. This morning, my legs were a little stiff from the sprinting, but after a shower, they were fine. One more reason to be shouting about the great things the Lap Band can do for someone.

I was advised by one of the older bandsters who used to be here, when I flew out to be banded---how to get the extender with less emabarassment. She said as you board, when they are greeting you, ask for it. They are always stored in the bins right there at the front. When you ask, she will reach over and hand it to you. The people already on board will be busy settling in, stowing luggage etc. Those waiting to board are in a line behind you and can see nothing but the person in front of them. If you wait until you are seated, she has to walk all the way to the front of the plane, get it, dodge anyone stowing things last minute, walk back down holding it, and hand it to you in front of everyone just watching her, preparing to take off. I was still to embarassed on my flight out, and managed to squeeze barely into it! But I knew with the fresh incisions, and swelling coming home I would need it----so I ask as was instructed....she reached right over her shoulder handed it to me, without blinking an eye, it was rolled up, unrecognizable to someone who did not hear the exchange, I walked back sat down, buckled up comfortably to fly home and just left it on the seatbelt when I got off. Ask in line!!! It does work with minimal embarassment!!!! Way to go on the NSV of not needing the extender though---that is a great difference---6 inches!!! Wooo hoooo!!!! Kat

Congratulations on your wonderful NSV! I think those are better than the pounds coming off. The last time I flew I had to ask for an extender - it was so embarassing. I don't know if I'll ever get on a plane again (not a huge fan of flying). 6 inches! Whoohoo - you go girl!

Come on MollyBrown, You know the story of the tortoise and the hare.... You, Sades, Kuchie, and I are the November tortoises, but we are going to do fine. I'm down 37 pounds at six months. Although faster might be nicer, I am very happy with the fact that I weigh less now than I have in seven years. It was soooooo great to bring out my spring/summer clothes this year and find out that everything either fit or was too loose. In previous years, the seasonal change out has been very depressing, as everything was always too tight. I have a huge pile of stuff to give to Goodwill because it is too big. That's a big NSV for me. I had hoped to lose 70 pounds this year and 35 pounds in the second year. I'm on track for that (and so are you). Don't let it get you down. It will all click if you just hang in there. We are a thundering herd of tortoises! Invincible!

This past weekend I experienced one of my greatest NSVs yet. I flew out to California for a little mini vacation and when I got on the plane and fastened my seat belt I still had about 6 inches of belt left!! I kept looking at the belt on both of my flights just in shock that I have all that belt left. Now it may not be all that much but to me that is a big deal because last time I flew in 2005 I had to suck in and force the seat belt to close while it was all the way extended. so YAY me!!!!

Special K – thank you for the encouraging information. I did not know that a normal first fill was 4.5 cc!!! I’m hoping my doctor follows that same practice! Fenton is right. I am sure that most of us are doing what we should and therefore, should expect to see that infamous scale move eventually. Laying off my scale has made me less edgy. It also may have made me a little lax in eating properly – but then I’d place the blame for that anywhere other than my own lap. I have not exercised since Saturday. That’s four days of laziness. Today may make five because my baby has a recital after school/work and I have too many things to do between getting off and getting her to the recital on time to get my walk in. I guess I should pledge here and now to set up my Wii tonight. Maybe if I do that and get in a few games of tennis I can count that as exercise. Anyway, I actually like my NSV almost as much as seeing the scale move. That lowering, hovering, (or in my case – rising) number is so concrete. But that concrete-ness could not compare to the feeling I got wearing those black jeans yesterday. I was looking good! One of the regular delivery guys went out of his way to come over and talk to me. I got the distinct feeling that he was flirting with me!!!! Ok I may be making more of it then it really was, but he reached out and touched my arm twice. He has never touched me before; and in marketing we know that people touch what they want. But even if I am wrong, I don’t care. I care that I was able to get into those jeans and I looked good. I care that I had to race for the door and I wasn’t winded. I care that I had to walk the length of my building several times yesterday I it did not make me tired and I did not cringe at the thought of having to make the walk. So I will definitely be out there walking tomorrow and I will be playing me some Wii!

Well sais, Fenton There will always be ups and downs. And we will learn to deal with them. I had a great NSV the other day. At the dentist I could never lean over to the "spit" sink and hit it, I usually had most of the yuck on the "bib" they strap around your neck. But this time!!!!! I leaned over and had no problems. I felt like jumping out of the chair with glee  It felt fabulous.
