  1. My goal weight is flexible—it'll probably change the closer I get to it as I figure out what I'm comfortable with. For now, it's 170 which is 10 pounds lower than my lowest adult weight.
  2. Does anyone have severe bloating and if you do what is the cause? I have had my band for 9.5 years and lately I have noticed that my stomach blows up like a balloon. Yesterday I looked and felt about 10 months pregnant and it was very uncomfortable. I know there are some common causes:- Soda, lactose or gluten intolerance. I know it wasn't soda or gluten as I hadn't had any of those. I did have a shake for breakfast so possibly that could be the issue but I am wondering what the other possibilities are? Has anyone had similar symptoms and then gone on to find out it was caused by a slip or erosion or anything else band related? My band is coming out on Thursday so hopefully I will get some answers then but in the meantime I'm curious

    Craving Pepsi

I never was a big soda drinker, that being said, I have had some soda post op. I'm 10 months post op though. It wasn't worth it. It just made me feel sick. Don't do it!

    4 months out and FRUSTRATED!!!!!!

I am a sleeve, not a bypass--but my surgical uses the same post-op diet plan for both procedures, with only minor differences in terms of supplementation. It's really hard to look at one person's macro and diet and use that as a basis to determine what's best for you. We all have our own issues and challenges to deal with. We also all have issues with stalls, although I agree that a month and a half is on the long side. The fact is, however, you started off at 311 when you had surgery in late August 2018 and you're now down to 235 as of today. Since you've been stalled for one and half months, that means you lost 75 pounds in a 4 month period. That's a LOT of weight in a very short period of time. Shorter than I think is common. Maybe a long stall isn't entirely unusual in these circumstances. That said, if you're eating less than 600 calories a day 5 months out of surgery, that seems really low. I am just finishing up my soft/puree phase and I am consuming between 700 and 900 calories per day. I expect that to go up to 1200 calories or so per day over the course of this year--maybe even 1500. I have been essentially following my doctor's guidelines, which means eating three meals per day that cause me to consume at least 70g of protein per day. I am also drinking more than 64oz of fluid per day, which maybe one of the most critical ingredients to weight loss. While my post-diet (at least for this phase of my recovery) doesn't limit me in terms of macronutrients (provided I hit my protein goals), I have chosen to limit myself to 20g or less of net carbs (which does not count fiber or sugar alcohols consumed). I have also chosen to eat only foods that have good quality sources of fat--like avocado, fish (and fish oils) etc. As a result, I have put myself in a state of ketosis, which seems be really helping me make the most out of my sleeve (at least for now). I would NOT say that I am following a Keto diet, since more than 50% of my food intake is coming from protein and maybe 35-40% is coming from fat, with less than 10% coming from carbs (it varies day to day, but carbs are always under 20g). I am also trying to exercise daily--not just take a walk, but really work up a good sweat and get my heart rate of to 80% max. I am not suggesting you do what I am doing--everyone needs to find their own best path--but if you're in a prolonged stall it's best to change things up. If I were in your shows, I would try hard to get in more protein and fats (to the extent you can tolerate them) and get your calories up closer to a 800 a day. I get that you might not be able to eat the fat at this point depending your sensitivity to dumping, but you can't continue doing the same thing that isn't working for you at the moment. You need to change a couple of things up to restart your weight loss engine. If that means drinking an extra protein shake or getting in an extra little meal to reach a new calorie/protein goal, then do it. See how it goes for a couple of weeks. Also, if your nutritionist isn't helpful, is there another bariatric nutritionist you could speak to???

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Thanks so much for giving us the run down. I have considered going to MX myself. It's just so close and easy, and would save so much $. I'm not too concerned abut the health risk. I'm more concerned about the quality of work. It doesn't make sense to save $10K if I hate my body, right? I'm curious as to why they don't want to do lift and implant at the same time? That's like standard mommy makeover material. What are their reasons? Because you have a significant amount of breast tissue left? It's good to know they are willing to do arms and breasts at the same time. I had read that there might be issues with skin being pulled different directions. In my fantasy world I get breasts, arms, tummy & thighs all done at the same time. But I'm pretty sure that isn't possible, or at least not with good results. This info has great timing. I realized this weekend that the last 10 lbs or so I lost has all come from my breasts and butt. The bras I just bought a month ago now don't fit. I was previously happy with the look of my breasts, just missed the fullness. Now they have officially pancaked, it's not a good look.

Two days til surgery - lets get this thing going!! Life has been super hectic since I started the 2 week preop LIQUID diet... my car was totalled by a wrong way driver the day I started (everyone is ok...my poor new car is in SUV heaven) so every moment I have has been spent on working, dealing with that or trying to find a new car before I have surgery. Which, I will admit, has helped distract me! I cheated big time on Saturday - after 12 hours of car shopping AFTER working a 10 hour overnight shift at work - I was tired, crabby and...yes...STARVING. So...I MAY have had about 2 ounces of salmon with my miso broth dinner. Ok..and a potsticker and a half. Only human
  7. Good luck to you tomorrow - I'll be watching for your updates Someone else said it here but please - let them know about your anxiety and they will help you with some - I think they said "Happy Juice". My first surgery was an emergency procedure about 10 years ago and I was a wreck. They anticipate nerves and WILL help you through it. Remember to breathe! We're all behind you!!

    50+

Age is a number. I had my surgery in August 2016 at age 55. I'm 57 now. I've lost about 150 pounds. I am a nationally ranked fencer in my age group (24th among women 50-59 and 33rd for all women over 40), can deadlift 235 pounds and back squat 225. What's old? I have more energy than either my 19 or 16 year old daughters. I'm in better shape. I regularly get checked out by people at the gym (especially from behind) who are then a bit surprised when I turn around and they realize I'm not 30. (Although I look pretty good for my age.) Age is a number. Don't let it define you. the only regret I have is waiting until I was 55 to do this.

    6 week post-op update

I actually need to update them. I'm at 169 lbs. now. I'm currently wearing a size 10, but I will be needing a size 8 probably before the month is over. I'm 4 lbs. from my goal weight. I think i'm going to try and go down to 145 lbs. instead.

    Pre op

From what I can tell, it varies from doctor to doctor. I just met with my surgeon for the first pre-op visit on 1-8-19. We just talked about pretty much everything relating to my weight. How long i've been overweight, all the things I've tried to do help lose weight etc. What my "vices" were, what I expect from the surgery.. etc. then we discussed my insurance and coverage. Then I spoke with their insurance person and she sent over my information for the 3 appointments I need to do. Psychologist appointment, 1 nutrition class and an Upper GI x-ray which I had completed on Friday. I have my nutrition class tomorrow and I am still waiting to be scheduled with the psychologist. Best of luck to you!!

    Lap band removed!

Do you think insurance will cover removal and conversion surgery if I am no longer obese? I would like to remove the band that I had put in almost 10 years ago, but am at a healthy weight. I feel like it is a ticking time bomb. I do have problems with acid reflux and food getting stuck if I’m not careful. I’m afraid if I just get it removed I will gain all of my weight back.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I am a month-post op, well 5 weeks probably and noticed that when I transitioned from fluids to soft foods that I was hungry every two hours. I can't each much at a time but I can eat often. I'm getting about 900 calories/day. No trouble getting in a variety of liquids including Gatorade Zero, decaf diet peach tea, sugar-free flavored water, etc. I have been to the gym every day so far this year in 2019 doing 30 minutes of cardio and strength-training.

    January 2019

Had my sleeve surgery on 01-08. I’m down 8 lbs since surgery and 53 lbs from HW. Day 3 post-op before I felt a little normal, but Day 4 post-op was much better. I was able to get over 95 oz of fluid and 109 g of protein. My goal from NUT is 90/90. Still taking meds for gastric spasm and PPI for now, but was able to cut BP med in half right before surgery. Expect to be off BP med by end of month. Will take advantage of working from home next week before returning to the office on 21st.

    ❤Summer Body Routines❤

So far I've been to the gym every day this year in 2019 (all 13 days, haha) but my goal is to work out at least 4 days per week. I do 30 minutes of cardio and 10-15 minutes of strength training each session, but I want to eventually ramp up and work out harder/faster/longer, but I'm only one month post-op so I'm still healing and don't want to push it yet.

Hey all you set to have your surgery in January. I had mine done on 01/09. Would love to hear from anyone on how they are doing within the first week or so of surgery. I feel like I am pregnant. So bloated. Ug. Hoping it goes down sooner rather than later. Started weight at 230 (5'6") and am down 9 pounds in four days. Wow! So excited. Certainly no one can tell because my stomach is like a balloon!
  22. This is a question for all planners out there: How do you plan for an event or two? I am currently enrolled in Ballroom Dance Classes and i took off the 6 weeks due to surgery. There are two competitions that i actually signed up for.. a local one here in Florida that is just with the 3 local studios ( Feb 23rd) and one in September that is much larger, nationwide held in Miami. My dilemma: how in the world do i plan and determine what my weight may be in order to get the dresses i need. The dress for Feb, i can get something nice from Ross that has glitter or what not and with Valentines day and Prom coming up, dresses are starting to be on the racks but then if i wait till last minute i may not find what i need.. My biggest worry is the Sept 2019 competition. I know its far away, but i have to put my order in for my ballroom dress ( 2 of them.. a smooth and a rhythm).. I have to send measurements to the seamstress by mid july to give her time to make my custom dresses.. How do i forecast what my measurements and weight will be by the 20th of Sept. That is roughly 6 weeks from giving her a size to me using the dress. I know i will lose weight and inches over the 6 weeks, but how do you gauge how much? These dresses are not cheap, some run into thousands. Mine will run about 700-800 for each dress, They dont sell them in stores as far as i know ( I am new to the ballroom world) and i cant just walk in the weekend before a competition and pick out a dress to wear .... I am really trying to plan ahead and figure out what i need to do in order to not have a dress that is too big or too small when the time comes. Thanks for any input in advance.. Truly appreciated!

    An honest update. Weight Gain

Thanks for your honest post. At 6 months out I see this can be a slippery slope and agree this is only a tool. I think you are correct, many think this is the easy way out. It sounds like you know exactly what to do. 10 pounds is fixable. You have got this!

    Smooth Moves

I've already discussed it with both surgeons in my office. I even went to the ER at Day 10 once and there was no poop in me at all, as shown on a CT scan. They said it's unusual but if I have no discomfort not to worry about it. I eventually went at Day 17. Usually I go at Day 8, but it's been about 13 days so I decided to try some laxatives. A small amount came out. I'm good. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. Im 4 weeks post op. I think I’m eating way too fast despite eating relatively small bites and chewing a ton. How long should it take me to eat, let’s say, 2 string cheese sized-cheese sticks with a slice or two of ham or turkey deli meat? Should it take me a half an hour? Or like 10 minutes? I feel like I’m rushing because my stomach is making gurgling noises after so I know Im really rushing it.
