Hi, I had diarrhea for a couple of days about 4 days after my surgery. It went away the next day as I was told I could eat yogurt and slim fast, which I did and the diarrhea stopped. I was told this is common because of the clear liquid diet.

Anyone have any good low carb recipes or food items that are quick and satisfying?
slimmy120 replied to Ezma's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
chicken noodle Soup, get an egg and just scramble the egg in a bowl, then bout it in the soup to cook ,put it in the soup in different sections, you can also put some cabage or chinese bacchoy vege in it. Plain yogurt, stir jarrah light chocolate through it, i like the white chocolate best. Low cal biscuts broken up and put through natural yogurt. -
Original poster are you outside of the US? Last I heard Benefiber was no longer sold in the US. I buy a flavorless fiber powder at Costco that I add to my daily yogurt. I also take a couple Vitafusion gummy fiber chews.

I'm doing the low-carb thing too, and here's a bunch of stuff I keep handy. String cheese (with 2 or 3 mini rice cakes for crunch) Cottage Cheese (with 1 T. of Fiber One yogurt) Tuna - mix with 1 T mayo & 1 oz cheddar cheese and nuke for 30 sec. Salmon Pinwheels - find them at Target, with crab filling. Yummo! Bags and bags of "steam in the bag" frozen veggies - I toss them with a little butter & feta cheese crumbles and eat 1 cup almost every night. Lettuce wraps - wrap turkey or ham and provolone cheese in a lettuce leaf with chopped tomato and mayo. Delish! Veggie dips - raw yellow pepper strips, cucumber and baby carrots go down really well - with a little sour cream mixed with dill. Sausage & Cabbage - simmer hunks of polish sausage with chopped cabbage until the cabbage is fork tender. I also buy a lot of pre-marinated pork loin - just heat and serve w/ veggies. I go to Sam's Club and buy huge bags of frozen chicken breasts and have about 20 low carb chicken recipes I make with them. Here's a few of my family's favs.... 1. Marinate chicken in Greek dressing - Saute, then toss with steamed spinach & feta cheese. 2. Coat chicken with a mix of mayo & garlic salt, then roll in parmesan cheese (w/ a spoonful of breadcrumbs tossed in, if you like). Bake at 400 for 15-20 minutes. 3. Marinate chicken in Italian dressing. Saute w/ red & yellow peppers & chopped onion. Toss w/ parmesan cheese. I serve this to my boys over Pasta - but serve mine just with a salad. Hope a few of these sound yummy! -
1week post op 72 oz fluid/day
SerendipityHappens replied to Wags's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drank 80 ounces my first day post op! My IV wasn't working right and I was getting dehydrated so the doctor reluctantly told me I could try rehydrate orally.. though he didn't think I'd be able to drink that much so early on. I had no issues drinking other than some spasms during the first few days if the drinks were too cold.. My first day out of the hospital, I could drink 16 ounces of chicken broth in one sitting and drink a whole bottle of water or gatorade. On day three post op, I was drinking some herbal tea and I accidentally took a three swallow gulp.. and felt nothing..... No pressure, no nothing.... I felt like you, I was happy but also worried because I was different than most people.. It was just because I didn't have inflammation in my sleeve so it was open.. Even when I started on things like yogurts and cottage cheese, I could eat more than most people.. I didn't really feel real restriction until I started eating chicken and meats. -
:smile2::confused: Hello there. I hope that someone can help my situation. I was banded in June 06. I initially lost 80 lbs, was at my sweet spot then started having severe reflux and esophageal spasms. I have mostly gotten over the spasms, but still have pain as often as everyday. I have had a couple swallow studies that do not reveal any problems with the band. Initally (after 8 months at my perfect fill level) the MD determined that my fill was too much. I have been playing with the fill for the last 2 years now. Today, although I sometimes have pain, my big concern is that I have such bad restriction that I am not able to take in anything (including fluids, excluding coffee) until about 1pm. I usually have one coffee just to offset the hunger and to give my body something to live on for those morning hours. After 1pm I am able to eat just about anything (excluding fruit which I have always had a hard time with.) My hunger is never gone and I make bad choices because at this late time in the day I am terribly hungry and then probably over-eat. I am able to eat about 2-3 cups of food at a time. I am at a loss, and my surgeon is unable to assist me. If I try to eat anything in the am (including yogurt) I will vomit. Please help if you have any suggestions! Thanks. Laura

The trick for me was to make sure I had both salty and sweet... that seemed to help my cravings... You can "blend " the cottage cheese with a little shredded cheese to change the flavor.. Also Egg beaters.... cook it like scrambled eggs than mash it up more and add it to your diet.. The Chopani Greek yogurts are good as well... just take out the fruit chunks... Honey and Vanilla are safe flavors... Good Luck!!

Skinny People's Poop May Hold the Disgusting Key to Weight Loss
Trillium replied to mistysj's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just wanted to come back to this craptastic thread (sorry) and say my surgery went really well on Dec. 29th. My doc's post-sleeve diet is three weeks of Clear liquids, which as y'all remember, get old very quickly. I called and asked if I could advance early to "soft" given my excellent recovery (they even released me early as I was up and walking and hydrated), lack of nausea, ability to get daily protein/water/exercise, etc. I argued that as long as I was protecting my stomach, transitioning off fake food could only be good for me. Thankfully my dietician is a big fan of healthy biota and gave me the green light. So today at 12 days out, I had a bit of yogurt, egg, fish, and spinach (all very soft). I feel TERRIFIC. It would not surprise me if an overgrowth of bad bugs is caused by the an excess of sweeteners, natural or not, and antibiotics, etc. I hope that fat bias (and WLS surgery bias) will wane as it becomes clear that this is truly a multicausal disease that is tied less to character than genetics and environment. -
7 weeks out and not feeling well
par1959 replied to Zane's Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had it easy, however apples did not work for me out of the gate. Keep trying different solids. Make sure to chew thoroughly. One of my go to's is greek yogurt mixed with oatmeal. It better if you mix it hours before you eat it. Not quite a full blown solid, but it sticks to your ribs. If you having problems with meat, maybe its to dry. Try smoothering it with marinara sauce and eat small bites. -
Silly thread.....but are your food bills less?
alicat3924 replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Actually my food bill has went up by like 50.00 a week. Reason being...I am now buying ALOT more fruits and veggies...fresh fish (never ate it before band) yogurts, egg beaters...etc I could go on and on but you know what it makes me kinda sick that you have to pay more $$$ to be healthy than not. Chips: 1-2.00 Fresh Veggie Platter: 5-7.00 Cookies 2-3.00 Fresh Fruit: 4-6.00 Soda - 1-2.00 Crystal Light 5.00+ Ice Cream - 2.00+ sugar free Ice Pops: 4.00+ NO WONDER THE WORLD IS OBESE!!!! JUST MY OPINION LOL -
We have a store in Jersey caled Trader' Joe's - it's a quirky store with fresh unique organic type items. Wegman's is another place that has yummy choices. I feel renewed engery buying some interesting foods. I ordered a Bento Lunchbox as seen on : http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ It wasn't cheap, but I thought it could make packing a lunch fun!! Some things I bought at Trader Joes:' A tub of Greek yogurt/dressing the kind they put on Gyros. (it had low calories) I picked up a lonnng skinny cucumber that I plan on chopping up and mixing with some organic tomatoes for a cucumber/tomato salad. I bought a fish stew-had it for dinner-yummy. I bought an Eggplant and Garlic spread that I can using for dipping or mixing with something. I bought mozz balls in olive oil and spices (I know I can ony have 1 or 2 of these do to calories, but they will go good in my Bento box! So hopefully this will make eating a little more interesting by trying new things. If you are stuck in a rut try going to one of these stores and experiment with different foods. Go to eggface's website to get some ideas. I had to really watch the calories because a lot of the things in the store are healthy, but not necessarily ow in calories. On a separate note , I had my very first NSV today!! Even though the scale hasn't budged in 2 weeks, I feel thinner and I notice it when I wear tops. Today a secretary at my job looked stunned and said "You are losing weight!!" I said "Yep, I lost a little" of course she asked what I was doing and I said watching what I am eating. So that felt good!!

Sleeved 7/31 whats everyone eating?
marfar7 replied to Esmeralda75's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 5 1/2 weeks out and on soft foods (after a long 4 weeks of liquids). I eat alot of chili, mashed potatoes, eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, turkey deli meat, and cottage cheese. I'm also bored. I want a big (make that little!) juicy steak, a salad, grilled chicken, and bread. I know, I don't want much, right? LOL You're doing great. I've lost 17 lbs, gaining and losing the same 1 lb over the past week. I started at 174 on july 16th so I know it'll come off lsower than say someone who started at 250 (which was my orginial weight when banded 4 yrs ago). I had the same dr also. 3 hrs away. Thats sucks but I really luv my dr so it's fine. The dr in my town doesn't take my insurance (Medicare, they only cover Centers of Excellence). Good luck to you. Expand ur eating so ur not so bored. I luv me some chili with a little melted sharp cheddar on top! Dip some melba toast in it...yummo -
Pre Op Liquid Diet. Help!
bandicootc replied to mandersue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the myoplex lite which has forever ruined me on the taste and smell of cake. I have the true results brand. The vanilla is awful but strawberry and chocolate are great. I also have now foods whey protein isolate. It is unflavored so you can add it to anything. Warm or cold. My fav post op one is the protein shots. They taste awful (fruit punch) but at 2.5oz. 26g protein and 110 calories they are perfect. She. I am not making my protein for the day I drink one. Two gulps and done. And they stave hunger. Sooooo triple bonus. I can't drink a whole shake now. I am 3 months out. I recommend the unflavored. Put it in jello, yogurt, broth, whatever. Just put it in after slightly cooled so it doesn't curdle. Also, it mixes completely without the gritty taste. -
I'm sure you can. I'm still on the soft diet but I've been doing pureed broccoli or cauliflower with a little cottage cheese or greek yogurt to make it creamier.

WE Can do this.. by the way what kinds of shake are you guys drinking? Slim-fast is killing me slowly. -
Mushies you can eat anything that you can stick in your blender to puree. Stage 1 baby food works too. Yogurt, cottage cheese, Creamy Soups, Ricotta Cheese. Good luck. I hope you feel better.

my dietician didn't put me on a diet yet. She set goals for me like walking a mile every other day and to stop drinking caffeinated tea (I don't drink coffee or energy drinks) and to start working on yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast. Basically she takes things slow and wants to work on habits. Every dietician is different though

strugling 2yrs after surgery
Louismom replied to cnicholsen10's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am doing a protien shake in the AM switching off with greek yogurt and fruit . Lunch I make on Sunday so I can bring it to work and not get stuck looking for something, which is turkey chili, or turkey taco minus the shell. Deli meat with cheese. Then dinner will be fish or chicken. What are you eating? -
My surgery was November 9th and I still have not had a bowel movement. I drank two 8 oz. protein shakes today and a little yogurt. Is this normal not to have a bowel movement by now?
-
So tomorrow i technically start mushies foods. Today i did very good around my wifes italian family i stuck with my yogurts and protein. Since i start mushies tomorrow i ate some ricotta cheese filling and sauce from the stuffed shells. It was delicious and made me feel like a real person again. I actually ate something valid. I know some of u are going to bash me because i did it a day early and maybe cheese wasnt the best way to go but if u were around that table today u would have seen it as a win as well. Merry christmas everyone!

How close do you follow your dr's Post Surgery plan?
dathvick posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had RnY Surgery on Sept 6th and so far am down 42 lbs. I followed the doctors instructions to the letter for the first 2 weeks but have been deviating a little here and there. I am still eating pretty much nothing but protein. My diet consists mainly of eggs, cottage cheese, Greek Yogurt, re-fried beans, lunch meat, chicken breast meat and the occasional can of cream soup. everything I eat is the Low fat or No fat variety. Here is where I have deviated, Today I had 2 cups of coffee (I am not suppose to have caffeine until week 8), I went back to puffing on the occasional cigar about 2 weeks ago, in the last week I have started having either wine or a little whiskey with my cigar. I was told not to go to the gym until week 6 but found myself there for the first time today (4 weeks after surgery). I feel great and healthy and strong, I have plenty of energy. I had surgery on a Wednesday and would have gone back to work on Friday if I hadn't already turned in my time card for the week. I did go back to work the Monday after surgery and never had any problems, not even any discomfort. I think everybody is different and we can all tolerate things differently. I don't think I am doing anything wrong when it comes to my recovery or weight loss but I do feel a little guilty for not following all the instructions I was given. -
I don't care for the Greek yogurt either, too tangy for me. Although in casserolesas sour cream, it is fine. I had to play with it to 'sweeten' it up. sugar free jelly'and Stivia or Sweet 'N Low help a lot!! You are so welcome. I just had my cottagecheese for breakfast, at this point I can eat a half cup, so that is 13 grams rightoff the bat!!! Yay! Since the beginning, I start the day and end the day with a cupof milk. I really, really did not want to lose my hair and haven't, so "mission accomplished". LoL I also take Biotin. I don't know if it helps, but the nurse at thedoctors office suggested it and I know it can't hurt! If I think of anything else, I'llsure send it your way. I like fish, I know you said you don't. I do NOT like fishy fish.I love Cod.....grilled. I put it in Olive Oil, with the crushed garlic (find it at Wal Martin a jar) use a TB or a little more. Sea Salt and ground pepper. Marinate it for a littlewhile if you have time, if not, just spoon the mixture over it....then grill. We like charcoalbut gas is fine too........this is oh-so-good. Fish is 'soft' and easy to eat, full of Protein. If you want/need to snack....get the low fat/skim mozzarella cheese sticks, even eat morecottage cheese or get some deli sliced lunch meat. Have a great day!!!Stacy

Everyone on this site can relate! It's the hardest part of the process. My doctor allowed pureed soups, low fat yogurt, sugar free ice pops, fruit smoothies and sugar free jello. Good luck!

Just wondering.

My tastes have not changed but they have came more extreme. Things that I was lukewarm on pre-op like scrambled eggs, I hate post-op. Never liked yogurt, despise yogurt now. Loved fish before, really love fish now.
