Ideas for ready made stuff I can buy to eat?
RILEYSMOM22 replied to wagyu's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Before you go nuts with prepared foods, make sure you are getting all your Protein. Keep in mind that a frozen dinner might be 20gms protein, but thats if you eat the whole thing, It isn't difficult to panfry a chicken breast, piece of fish, or steak. or scramble an egg. I eat one of those things for dinner every day. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, lowfat string cheese are all quick protein sources. -
Google Bariatric food Manual. Several PDF's that you can download should come up. It should cover all food stages. My favorite Snacks early on was plain greek yogurt with chocolate Protein powder mixed in and then frozen to a pudding like consistency. I also liked using a tbsp of almond butter Other snacks I like are: String cheese Single Serving pack of pistachios, cashews or almonds Peeled and diced cucumber with a splash or sriracha and lime juice.

I like almonds. Yogurt. Parmesan cheese chips. Low-fat string cheese. But I'm far my favorite is pickles almost no calories and a great crunch

Soft foods... Well, i'm eating them. And, i'm not really following a plan other than no white flour or added sugar. Plus, I'm not really sure when i'm full. That is, until i feel awful. I'm not eating and drinking at the same time, and I'm chewing slowly. 2 weeks and 1 day in, I'm 17 lbs down. It is interesting that after a stressful work call, i ended up eating a yogurt. I wasn't hungry, and didn't need to eat. I was overtly full for the next 4 hours. Not fun. My favorite soft foods as of this moment are Protein pudding, salmon salad, almond milk yogurt, and hummos. I had some steamed dumplings that were fine until an hour after eating... Not sure if i will revisit and my balloon seemed to get lodged again. The downward dog move seems to work. My understanding is that several people who have had the "reshape" balloon have had to have it removed because of the size, that they get stuck.. Would love to hear any experiences.

how does it taste in relation to normal mayo? gonna check this out too Thanks BLERD! very helpful going to make use of the crockpot at work ! I can't tell a difference. I used half olive oil mayo, half unflavored greek yogurt when I made potato salad over the summer for a get together, no one noticed the difference. -

I make my own P3 protein packs with some low fat cheese, almonds, and low sodium deli meat or a boiled egg. Not sure that this is the best choice, but I have also found that 1 large chili from Wendy's will provide me with 3 lunches once portioned out! I also make some "skinny" deviled eggs using plain Greek yogurt instead of mayo that are a handy snack to keep in the fridge. If I'm desperate, a ready made premier protein shake is my meal, but I usually try to "eat" my meals rather than rely on shakes. -

I do half plain greek yogurt, half mayo. Same taste, half the calories with a tiny Protein boost. Oh wait. There's such a thing as a single serving crock pot. You can bring your own food without having to heat up in the communal area. I'm deathly allergic to seafood and never ate in the office lunch area because if someone heated up seafood I could have a anaphylactic episode. I became a master at bringing self contained lunches. -
I had Breakfast today, plenty of Protein, and about 30 minutes later I was craving something crunchy, crackers, kale chips etc. I started getting upset thinking how could I be hungry, I was very full 30 minutes ago. I started thinking of my favorite Snacks, like cottage cheese and yogurt, and thought to myself, that is not tempting at all, I am still full. My point is, I think I discovered how to tell the difference from head hunger vs real hunger, for me anyway and just wondering if anyone else feels that way. I know before surgery if I was hungry, anything and everything sounded good and I would eat almost anything, but this time I realized I was not really hungry or anything would have been tempting. I hope I am making sense. So rather then give in to something crunchy, I waited and had some fluids and craving gone for now.

You've got lots of great suggestions. I don't cook much either but am trying to do more. I have a very small kitchen so use my microwave and toaster oven a lot. I would also echo the suggestion of using a crock pot. I keep turkey burgers, fish, and chicken in the freezer. Another thing you can do is go to the deli and get sliced meats. Try thickly sliced turkey or roast beef. You can make a deconstructed sandwich but you can also eat it like roast. Heat it up and add a vegetable like green Beans and a little gravy and you have a great comfort-food type meal. I live on yogurt, tuna, cheese, etc. One of my favorite meals is cottage cheese with some fresh, ripe, juicy tomato and lots of black pepper. -

I wouldn't recommend boxed meals like lean cuisine and such, even the low sodium ones are barely food. A good nutra bullet/Ninja blender will be invaluable to you. ETA: Totally agree a crockpot would be a great investment. Try socking up on staples: Low sodium broths are good. A precooked chicken breast is a good weekly investment. During the liquids stage it can be pureed then thinned with broth, during puree stage just pureed then soft food stage chopped up with a bit of broth to eat. Buy only what you can eat in a week. If you have more invest in freezer bags and separate them into sleeve size portions. With the Holiday's coming up you may want to do the same with turkey breast. Greek Yogurt is a good high Protein buy. If you buy the plain you can add a small bit of fruit to sweeten or use as a healthier alternative to sour cream. Canned Beans are good. Lentils, split pea or black bean have a decent amount of protein in them. I prefer low sodium organic, but it you buy the regular ones, just drain and rinse before eating. Many people like refried beans topped with shredded cheese and tomato sauce. Fish often come frozen and is easy to prepare. (Poached in a vegetable broth with a few herbs and seasonings added, baked with some lemon slices, baked under diced tomatoes.) Spices are you friend. My basics: pink or Kosher salt, garlic powder, black pepper, bay leaves, rosemary. I prefer fresh, but jarred works as well. eggs if you like them. At the beginning of the week boil a few eggs. It makes a great grab and go Breakfast and contain healthy fats. Cheese sticks - look for those made from low fat milk. They make a good snack. Nut butters - I was allowed one tbsp a day from the time I was on All Liquids. That one tablespoon blended in a Protein Drink is a nice change of pace and adds a nice protein boost to your protein drink. The closer you are to eating normal food you may be able to take advantage of a good deli or hot/cold salad bar. Just pop in and grab whatever high protein items are available. I would also recommend picking up some wheatgerm, flax powder or psyllium powder. Many sleevers have issues with constipation. A tsp a day sprinkled on yogurt, your protein drink or in Soup may help add a bit of Fiber to your diet so that is not an issue for you. -
How Have Your Tastes Changed Since Surgery?
Alex Brecher posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
A lot of WLS patients find their tastes change after WLS. Sometimes it’s too bad, like not liking healthy foods like chicken or salad anymore. Sometimes it’s a good thing, like when you don’t like greasy foods anymore. Sometimes it’s a direct result of surgery, like being intolerant to super sweet foods after gastric bypass or not liking the taste of Water anymore after the sleeve. Sometimes it’s the result of getting used to a new set of foods that you first FORCE yourself to eat, and later actually enjoy more than the junk food you used to eat. Like many lap-band patients, I didn’t notice any immediate changes in my tastes post-op, but my tastes have definitely changed in the years since surgery! Now, I like healthy foods, and don’t automatically prefer high-calorie sugary or fried foods. I like yogurt, and oatmeal, and fruit, and vegetables, and prefer unprocessed foods. What about you? Have your tastes changed since surgery? In which ways?- 10 replies

I don't know if you are a costco member or have a trader joes nearby.... but if you search for either of those you will find threads started by me where people put in "favorite finds" from those places. I like to cook but am often time challenged, so I love healthy - nearly ready to eat food. There are some who eat lean cuisine type dinners but I can't bring myself to do it. I feel like I eat so little - I want it to be stuff I love or at least like! I bet others will post some easy peasy stuff but here are just a few things: -greek yogurt -all natural sandwich meat with cheese, ideally wrapped around a dill pickle -low carb/low calorie/healthy sausages - there are several varieties I really like and can just heat and eat -I buy salmon patties (from Costco, but you can get them elsewhere) I grill em and put them on top of a yummy bed of salad greens. I use olive oil and white balsamic vinegar for dressing and it is really really good! -Do you like seafood - lots of places have ready to eat shrimp... yum -egg beaters and baby turkey sausages are a regular Breakfast for me - lots of Protein and very low cal/low carb -any kind of sandwich, but instead of bread, use a lettuce and make a wrap! -grocery stores often have premade things that are quite nice. It is expensive, but since 1 serving is probably 3 meals, it suddenly becomes more economical! -tuna in a pouch can be good over salad or as a main ingredient in one of those lettuce wraps Come on people - I know there are lots of other amazing ideas out there! -
So what's changed?

I used to HATE milk and Greek Yogurt. Loathe. Gag on the idea of having either. Now I drink Fairlife Milk twice (sometimes 3) times a day. I get a little panicked if it is late in the evening and I pour my four ounces in a frosty mug only to realize I don't have enough for my morning cup. I have one time at around 9 p.m. in my p.j.'s, house shoes and hair a fuss, rushed to the nearest convenience store to buy three of the little 11.5 ounce bottles. Not all Greek Yogurt I enjoy. I don't really like the Dannon Light and Fit Greek (or regular) it is too chemical tasting. It leaves a weird taste in my mouth. I do LOVE the Triple Zero Oikos, Chobani Simply 100 and the Yoplait Greek 100. Yum! -
Not tolerating whey protein...
Mogwaicat replied to Mogwaicat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well...it's weird. I can drink milk fine, can tolerate small amounts of low sugar/low fat greek yogurt, but even the unflavored powder which only lists whey protein isolate as an ingredient makes me ill. I was fine with it before surgery. -

You're on Day 13, so I might try adding some protein powder to your yogurt - the unflavored kind. You can get a nice protein hit that way. -
Frozen Pumpkin Pie Protein Pops - Yum!
beachgal2935 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone - I've been back in my kitchen experimenting again! This time of year I love everything pumpkin and I recently purchased some really good Inspire brand pumpkin pie Protein powder. I've had it hot, cold and thought ... what else could I do with this tasty stuff?! Then voila - I decided to mix it with all my favorite things and freeze it. I know it's not Summer, though it's been in the low 80's here in Florida this weekend, but I'm freezing all the time now anyways, so what's the difference. These frozen yogurt pops are beyond delicious. I used the coconut/vanilla blend yogurt because it's what I had on hand but all you taste is pumpkin pie so I don't think it really mattered. They taste good without the SweetLeaf liquid Stevia but let me tell you with just a few drops of it, they taste GREAT! I just love the fact that they're packed with 12 grams of quality protein! Now that you can't beat!!! Oh yeah, I found the ice pop molds in Walmart at the end of the ice cream case for those who may not have any. The brand is goodcook (see pic). Pumpkin Pie Frozen Yogurt Pops 2 Scoops Inspire Pumpkin Pie Protein Powder ½ cup Premier vanilla Protein Drink 3 – 5.3 oz. Dannon Toasted Coconut Vanilla Greek Blends Yogurt ¼ tsp Ground Cinnamon 5-10 drops SweetLeaf Liquid Stevia - Pumpkin Spice (optional) Blend all ingredients (I used my Nutribullet) and pour into ice pop molds. Place in freezer for 2-3 hours then enjoy! Nutrition Facts Servings 7.0 Calories 71 Fat 0 g Carbs 5 g Fiber 0 g Sugars 3 g Protein 12 g -
So what's changed?
LoseItKacy replied to LoseItKacy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had gastric bypass. My taste buds are extremely sensitive. I had lemon Greek yogurt once and I couldn't even get one bite in it was so sour! I spit it out in seconds. food for the most part is extremely bland. I love Water. Certain shakes taste gritty to me so I mostly have to do Protein powder in crystal light. It's just crazy to me how much things have changed. -

@@Ray92 Yours does seem very different from most of the other plans I've seen. Mine is similar to others, just the length of each stage varies. Day 1-3 clear liquids only but included clear Protein such as Isopure RTD Days 4-10 full liquids including enough Protein shakes to reach at least 60 gm per day, low sugar yogurt, sf pudding, etc Days 11-21 - pureed/soft foods - use real food as much as possible but make up difference in protein shakes to continue getting enough protein Day 22 and on - regular food, chewed to applesauce consistency 3 meals, 2 Snacks per day. Although I agree with following your own specific directions I would ask why they don't have you on any protein except the bit of yogurt? It seems like you would be burning up a lot of muscle, without adequate protein intake. Are you a vegetarian or vegan? I know there are some vegan protein supplements available though I don't know anything about their quality. -
i made a mini hamburger. ate it just as fast as i wanted to and the size bites i wanted to.....just cuz i was frustrated and rebellious. then i threw it up. so win win. i'll b ready to get back on the ball tomorrow. and to man up and stop bitching. in the meantime i lived on 3/4 of a turkey lunchable today. a little cup of mandarin oranges and a couple bites of yogurt.

You might try making one with higher Protein that would be better for you to get your protein goals. I made a Skinn(ish) Buffalo chicken dip for a party tonight that was really good and high in protein, low carb, moderate fat. Also, at about 4 weeks post-op, I made a mexican layer dip that was easy for me to eat with fat free refried Beans, mashed avocado, 0% greek yogurt (mixed with a little lime and taco seasoning), 2% sharp cheddar, pico de gallo and olives. I left the pico de gallo and olives out of my portion. It was easy to eat and got protein from the yogurt, beans and cheese. @@Babbs is right about the dipper though. I just used a fork.

Cleared for regular food
Alex Brecher replied to anna9/15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes…tons of restrictions! But first, congrats on being cleared for regular food. That sure feels and tastes good! The first thing is to listen to your body. Only try one new food at a time, and only have a little at a time, and see how your sleeve reacts. Since you have the sleeve and likely can’t eat too much at one time, the most important thing to do first is eat your Protein, like tuna, chicken, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, and fat-free cheese. Then there are fruits and veggies – go for easier ones first, like cooked veggies and super ripe (soft) melon. You can add in healthy starches like oatmeal. Restrictions: of course, the foods that may have been problems in the first place…high-calorie foods like sweets and fatty foods…pizza, brownies, Pasta, chips…you may be able to have tiny amounts later on, but you’re safest not having them now. Also, even some healthy foods are a little harder to handle at the beginning. Raw veggies are tough, especially fibrous ones like asparagus. Nuts and seeds, and fruit with peel or seeds, are hard. Also, acidic foods like citrus fruits and tomatoes may rub you the wrong way. Congrats again, and good luck! Let us know how you’re doing! -
You are lucky! I was sleeved the 19th too and I've only gone once! I know you have probably heard this line a million times but are you drinking enough Water? Makes a huge difference. Also plain, lot fat yogurt. It really gets my stomach cleaned out. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
