    New SIPS Sleeve Procedure

Dr. Bovard from Bariatric Specialties of NC did my SIPS procedure on 12/22/14 and I was down 97 pounds as of September 21, 2015. I originally had a lap band procedure done in April 2008 and lost about 115lbs but gained about 35 back. Last year in October I decided to do a revision and I love it a lot more than the Lap Band.

    My first real NSV!

Way to go ! So nice that somebody acknowledged your weight loss and hard work !! Keep it up !!
  3. For a while I thought why hasn't anyone else said anything about my weight loss, and I even mentioned it to one of the ladies that commented on my weight loss. She stated that everyone is noticing but not everyone is gonna say something, but trust me they notice. I really felt good then. I really feel motivated to keep going, even though I still got a long way to go.

    Seriously mourning food :(

Oh my gosh, you sound like you live with us! Diners, Drive In's, and Dives...Man vs Food, No Reservations, Bizarre Foods, Food Paradise, you name it, we watch it. I think the strangest thing I'm doing now is buying stuff for my husband to eat....meaning, if I'm really craving something I can't have, I'll get it for him. It's bizarre. It's almost like eating vicarously through him! I just hope he doesn't gain all I lose!

    Bariatric surgeon appointment

@@smg thanks so much. I considered self pay since I wanted to have plastic surgery but after a few consults I realized I wasn't at my ideal weight and my BMI was too high for plastics. I'm def using this community as a tool. It's always great to hear from other people and their experiences. I'm looking forward to each step of the process. I've waited 30 years to get to an ideal weight, I'm sure I can wait another 6 months when did you have your procedure and how are you doing? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Another Newbie here...

I've been doing great!! I took off two weeks to rest, but really only needed a couple of days. I was walking the day after surgery and have been doing so ever since. I don't know how much weight I've lost yet; don't want to become OC on weighing in as I know I will if I start. Won't know until Thursday, my follow up visit, and can't wait!!!

    Sleeve or Bypass?

I choose Bypass because I need to lose 120+ it is what my surgeon and I decided on based off of my eating my eating habits and wanting to keep the weight off. You can most defiantly has success with both. I've seen it happen with both surgeries! I do agree that you need to talk to your surgeon not really the cardiologist. 8. The best decision you can make is to do something to improve your health. I am one week and one day post op and the only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner. It is definitely not the easy way out. Those who say that just think the surgery makes you lose the weight. The reality is that it is a tool along with better eating habits, the fact your food volume is severely reduced and you still must exercise. The pre-op diet wasn't that big of a deal for me. I had to do 2 weeks of it and I lost 20 pounds in those 2 weeks so it gave me motivation to get to the finish line of it. Once I got into the routine of it I didn't even eat the freebies like broth! I changed my eating habits at my consult at end of January this year, had surgery May 15th and with all I did lost 48 pounds so far. You will be amazed how well you an do with the tools you are given. Good for you for starting the process again! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!!

  10. Newbie alert ???? Hi to all!!!! I am officially okayed, approved, and have my surgery date of Dec 22nd! Two Days Till Lap Band Surgery - To Final Supper Or Not??

LOL...thank you one and all from absolving me of my guilt....I have lost 15-20 lbs in my pre-op diet so I doubt I will be able to eat much without getting sick anyhow....but I am sooo tired of cottage cheese, yougurt, fruit salad and shakes... It is strange...I feel like crying...like an addict who is giving something up...but I am determined to lose the weight for me, my children and my future...so head on in I go...looking forward to being a bandster by Wednesday afternoon....I will see you all on the other side....

    OXFORD Ins. Info.....

Hello all. Im posting this just to give EVERYONE some hope.Today I just found out I was APPROVED for surgury!Im a 37 year old male 5'9".I weigh 291lbs. NO health complacations from being over weight YET.Anyway...I did the medical report with my Primary Dr. whos report said I would benifit from weight loss surgury. I did an EKG. I did the physcoligist report who also said It would be benificial to me.The Dr.'s sectetary turned it in on tuesday afternoon......Thursday (this morning) I was told I got approved for Surgury.(NOTE: I decided & got approved for RNY Gastric bypass surgury)My Dr. is in network & charges $37,000 for this operation & ALL I HAVE TO PAY IS A $500 deductable!!!! Honestly...Ive been on the phone with Dr, Hucuz & dr. ortiz & acouple of others READY to book a lap-band surgury in MEXICO & do self pay because I NEVER BELEIVED my insurance would pay especially since I didnt have any health complacations! Im STILL In SHOCK!!! So....I just wanted to tell ALL the kind people on here to have faith, take it slow & it can happen!!!! I wish ALL get covered & have a happy & healthy surgury weather they chose the band or bypass.Thank-you all & good luck!
  13. The nice thing about the band is they can "unfill it" for pregnancy. I'm almost 36, married, and have 3 kids (and am having no more)...but I also got cold feet right up until they put me uner. Like Liz, I was banded just March 15th and am SO GLAD I had it done. I haven't seen huge weight loss yet, but I have so much more energy! And I know in time the weight loss will happen. Just know the anxiety/cold feet is totally normal. We're all here to help you in this journey...whatever your final decision is.

    This Is'nt Easy ...help!

Don't wait for surgery to start weight loss. Do it now. You will feel better, your surgery will go easier and your recovery will go faster.
  15. I would sit down with a doctor to make your choice. That is what I did. I was not sure if I even wanted surgery when I first met with my weight-loss doctor. After a few meeting she factor in my age weight and needs and we decided on the sleeve. I went this option because it only messes with one organ not several. You also have less risks of malabsorption and complications. Most places offer seminars that are free and will talk about options and risks. Insurance may also come into play on what you can have as well.
  16. I am 21 years old and almost 500 pounds. My goal weight is to be 180 pounds one day. I plan on getting surgery soon but I am still trying to choose which one. Based on your experience what is your opinion on which surgery I should use. Give your reasons. Feel free to ask me for any additional information.

    Typical day on Preop diet???

I am getting banded next thurs too! I am allowed to eat cream of wheat, yogurt, milk, juice and sf carnation inst bfast for breakfast. Lunch is soup, milk, juice, sf pudding. Dinner is the same. I have snacks of either milk or yogurt in between. After dinner I have a protein shake or carnation inst bfast. I have to be on pre op diet for 2 wks. Thats nice you get to start yours later. I have been doing ok on it, been tired and muscles ache. It gets old, but its better than drinking shakes all day. Good luck! Hopefully you will find out what your diet consists of soon. I have lost about 7 lbs since on pre op diet in 1 wk. You lose weight, but can be exhausted.
  18. Hello all, My surgery date was January 6, and I am down 53 lbs. I can fit into some size 8 pants, but mostly 10s, and I am wearing a SMALL top! That makes me so happy. I still can't believe this is where I am. The weight loss has definitely slowed down but it is still coming off and that's what counts! Like someone else mentioned, I think it is interesting that we are all basically at the same amount lost after 5 months.
  19. WOW what a great weight loss!! I'm a month out too, but have only lost 6kgs (which is just over 13lbs) but I lost a fair bit before surgery so am actually about halfway to my goal. It fascinates me as well to see how things have changed - the volume of food I could pack in before surgery was pretty piggy really (well I didn't get overweight by having a delicate appetite!) and I'm so happy to be full on a small portion. One egg and I'm stuffed full...... from someone who could eat a 3 egg cheese and vege omelette and be lining up for toast as well! I've never been a fast loser, but at least it seems achievable now without feeling deprived and "on a diet" - roll on (or off!) the next 20kgs
  20. I have posted this elsewhere and got several replies - none encouraging - so I will try here: I want the lap band removed (placed in 2008 by different surgeon) but I am still struggling with the decision to get the sleeve. Ultimately I know the decision is mine and I have to do what I think is right but I'd like some practical (not philosophical) advice. To me the main purpose of any WSL should be to improve one's quality of life. If losing weight does that - great. If your medical conditions improve - great. If you can do things you couldn't do before - great. And finally - if you look and feel better - great. My band is unfilled now and I can eat most anything. It is a crap shoot though as to when I get stuck or feel very uncomfortable and need to make myself throw up. I also get left shoulder pain. I was diagnosed with GERD many years ago and have been on nexium for about 10 years - so I have no heartburn or symptoms of GERD. During this time I have slept elevated. At age 64 I have chronic back pain and arthritis. Tylenol is not effective. My weight doesn't keep me from doing anything - more so the back pain and arthritis (neither of which improved with my weight loss with the band). So that brings me to my dilemma: I am at a BMI of 35 and the surgeon says I can expect to lose about 45 pounds. And I won't be able to take NSAIDS for life to treat my pain. I have also read that about 1/3 of those who didn't have acid reflux develop it after the sleeve. I have also heard the word "stuck" and vomiting and sliming with referral to the sleeve. Then there are all the foods (even healthy ones) that one cannot eat after the sleeve and many posts about problems with foods - getting enough Protein, etc... So, I guess what I am trying to decide is if the sleeve will improve the quality of my life or create problems I don't have now without benefits to my medical conditions (that's asking a lot for 45 pounds). Any advice - especially from those who didn't have a lot of weigh to lose?

60lbs is awesome! I had surgery 1/28 and have lost 38lbs and I am very happy! I have not experienced the stalls and have consistantly lost 1 to 2 pounds per week but I have not had the big losses that others have. I am very happy with the slow weight loss and I think we should always be patient because each persons body will lose weight differently, just keep up the good work and you will get to your goal! Good Work!

How fast is too fast? Speed of wt loss

If you're losing weight in a healthy manner- enough calories, enough Protein, not junk calories- then don't worry about the speed at which you lose. Your body will regulate itself soon enough and you'll miss the days the weight just melted off, For the record, I lost 44 pounds in the first 6 weeks after surgery and continued to lose at least 20 pounds a month for the first 6 months. Now, I am lucky if I lose 5-8 pounds a month. The lower the scale goes the slower the weight come off because your body is much more resistant to let it go. You're fine

    Pre-OP weight loss

What did your doctor ask you to lose? I'm on the pre op diet right now too. I've lost 5 lbs in 4 days. my surgeon said he would still operate as long as I don't gain any weight. good luck to you!

    Gained weight

Could be in a plateau for loss, it may help to think of prior surgery weight losses added to now and stalling loss for a bit. Plateau; http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/weight-loss/in-depth/weight-loss-plateau/art-20044615 http://paleoleap.com/weight-loss-plateau/ You must stick to the very low amounts you still use for food in order to maintane the smallness of your stomach, don't let a stall or plateau fool you in to being disinterested in what your already doing. Stick hard and close to your special dietary needs and schedule, always do what the doctors say. Your stomach is now shrunk to an unusaul smallness which will in months or year or more go back to fitting larger amounts, it is essential to use this smallness and lack of appetite now and prolong this period of diet newness best for as long as you can.
