  1. I'm only 2 months out myself so can't speak from experience, but I want to throw the "it could be muscle gain" hat into the ring. You said yourself that you are doing a lot more walking and so maybe your calves are building up. Also I know you said you weigh yourself daily but I cannot stress enough how bad that is to do. Once a week is plenty, just make it the same time of day (should be first thing before you consume breakfast), and same clothing ideally. There will be single days in anyone's life no matter the circumstances where they weigh a little bit more than the day before, you need to not focus on it. It'll drive you crazy otherwise, I'm sure it's nothing. Sent from my HTC 10 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Happy New Year 2013

How many of us plan to meet our goal weight in 2013? Okay Maryland Bandsters have you been honest with yourself and your band so lets start out the new year with a fresh pace.1) Remember those rules of the band? "you should know them in your sleep"...LOL2) How much protein-carbs-calories sugar is your daily intake?3) Are you accountable? Start a journal-Oh this is the best way to find out if your ACCOUNTABLE!4) Exercise-yes this will aid in your weight loss and reduce that LOOSE SKIN that most of us will encounter with we reach goal.5) Love yourself on your journey of what you have done so far!Be strong~Annette
  3. 6 more weeks until the 2nd fill... hope that one makes a difference! Also... I don't remember who posted it, but I made the turkey taco Soup and it's friggin fantastic! I literally eat it EVERY DAY for lunch, and a lot of days for dinner. So easy, so delicious. You should give it a try!!! Not my recipe... I got it from a post on this forum 1 lb ground turkey, browned with 1/2 chopped onion and 1/2 c chopped green pepper (I just got frozen... easy!) Add to crock pot with : -2 cans pinto Beans (drained) -1 can black beans (drained) -1 cup frozen corn (you can leave out if you're worried about the carbs but it's not very much corn in the whole pot) -2 cans of Rotel tomatoes (they're diced with green chilis... the Rotel are actually better than the delmonte diced with chilis if you can get them) -1 package of taco seasoning -1 package of ranch dressing mix. -I only added about 2 cups of Water and 2 cubes of beef bouillon for flavor... but if you want it soupy add more water I put a spoonful of fat free sour cream in my bowl of soup and it's fantastic... even my picky family loves it. and EASY!!!!

    Fresh juicing info requested please

I was not allowed to consume fresh juice until six weeks out. I juice frequently and it's a FANTASTIC way to get all of those wonderful micronutrients from the veggies. The only thing is that I just have to be careful of how much fruit I'm using. I try to stick with kale or other greens, cucumbers, lemons, ginger, celery and just enough apple or orange to make it palatable. And I do enjoy an occasional carrot-apple juice when I'm not trying to be all low carb. I juiced right up until my surgery and I had a fantastic recovery with very little inflammation of my sleeve.. my incision sites healed so quickly I was discharged from the hospital with only one Band-Aid. I don't know, but I think the juicing really helped make my body ready for surgery.
  5. I hate reading these stories. I so feel for you. I'm so excited about my journey and I would be crushed if something similar happened to me. I want this so badly and for me it's the only way I'll ever be thin again. And thin or "not fat" is health for me. Somehow you have to get back up on that horse and ride it again. Think about your health, your family, your partner. It's just another hill for you to climb but if you did it once, you can do it again right? Keep in touch with the Dr's nutritionist. For me, she was the difference between failure and success just 3 months ago. Be honest with her/him and spill your guts about what you eat and how you eat. Something went wrong, not saying it was you, but don't let it be you! tmf

    Citric Question

I'm 4 weeks and bought the outlast mango fruit bars the other day. They felt good going down and they're low calorie.
  7. OK, so I am 3 weeks post op and I think I just experienced my first episode of pain following eating too fast? Or maybe not chewing enough? I had about 1 oz of very soft turkey, which I have been tolerating fine, but I think I wasn't focused enough on my 25-35 chews and going slow. Ouch! I got a lot of pressure and tightness and over-salivating and general discomfort which passed after approximately 20+ minutes. OK - I get it! Good reminder, sleeve!! You are in charge right now, not me!

I am the same way..... only my waiting periods in between weight loss is about 3-4 weeks. I am losing in stalls.... but still losing! Doesnt help that I weigh first thing EVERY morning... This last 50 that I need to lose are going to be a b***h!
  9. Hi I am almost 3 weeks post surgery and I lost about 20 lbs in the first 2 weeks but now that I am eating I have gained about 4 lbs back. Is this normal or should I not have gained at all? Thanks Rosie

    Potassium

Potassium is a tough nut to crack for us, as the legal OTC supplement levels are low (about 3% of RDA) and most of the best food sources are carbohydrates (potatoes, bananas, melons, etc.) which are decidedly unfashionable today (and is one of the reasons that I never went in for any of the low carb fad diets that are "in" these days.) But even eating as balance a diet as we reasonably can we are limited by the volume and calories that we can consume while losing. The best I was able to do then was in the 75-80% RDA range while more typically averaging 60-70%, The good news is that my K levels were fine on the labs and continue to be. My wife is chronically low (it's an idiosyncratic thing rather than a WLS thing for her) and uses an Rx supplement in her high K smoothie (made with tangerine juice, banana, strawberries and whatever else fits in there). Coconut water is good; another good supplement is the low sodium version of V8 juice, which has 900mg per cup, 50 calories and 10g carb, of which 2 are fiber, of it that fits tastewise into your smoothie, that may be worth a try as an alternate. You can also try using the "light" table salts that use KCl rather than NaCl in them, though we typically use so little of it that it probably doesn't make much of a difference., though the ratio of K to Na is as important as the overall level of K in our diet (and typically our diets are the reverse of what they should be - they tend to be closer to 5:1 Na to K rather than the other way around., so anything that pushes things in the right direction is a help.
  12. Hi! Had surgery on 9/17. Just curious what and how much people are eating. I find that yogurt does down..no problems. When I eat solid food, I get a "full" feeling after a couple of small bites (not even an ounce) but I eat more because I wouldnt be getting anywhere near the 65 g. of protein. The feeling doesn't get worse until I eat a couple of ounces (volume not weight) and I know it is time to stop. Does anyone get that "full" feeling after a 2 or 3 bites of food, that stays that way until you eat a couple of ounces? Does that go away?
  13. Now I have a TOTALLY different perspective to add. My doctors post-op diet is clearly different than all others I have seen. I went on to pureed Proteins (3T 3 times/day) on day 3. After a month I am allowed to add 1/2 c of cooked veggies After 2 months I can add 1/2 c of fruit NO CARBS until I have lost 75% of my excess weight
  14. I was banded in the UK. I have spoken to my consultants office on a few occasions reagarding this pain, but I am not able to call my surgeon direct, this is not permitted. Any problems anybody may have if they have been banded via this group, must go through them and not direct to the surgeon. If however, I was banded by the surgeon through the NHS here in the UK, then this would be a different matter, as my consultation would have been with the surgeon at the beginning. The pain is not as bad today, and this morning it was more of a prodding sensation in the centre, and towards the left below the ribs. Lets hope that it's just scar tissue/healing. I have been informed that I should have a fill in about 2 weeks time, looking forward to this as it will finally put my mind at rest and hopefully be able to feel what a band is actually like when working!!! Will keep you all updated.
  15. It took me a full week to feel human again. You might want to check your temperature and make sure you're not running a fever though.

    Feeling better but.......

So the pain finally went away and my shoulder feels better. Thanks for the advice to keep moving bandsters. It really help, but now I'm in liquid diet hell. If I drink one more whey protein shake. I feel like I am starving. I have also been a tad bit bad. I ate a small bite of a chicken panini sandwich my daughter had,but after I chewed it I spit it out. Big mistake. That tiny morsel of normal came back in the form of exposive diarrhea, I know tmi, but someone has got to say it and days later I thought I could have a chicken chunk. It was soft and it's chicken right healthy. Wrong!!! Same thing that happen before happened again so no more cheating for me.But I have got to tell you I'm raging bitch  on this liquid diet.Yes I have gone from 316 to 296 in two weeks  but when came I use my teeth again.

only six days until i get my band

Jennifer, you are gonna do great and it will all be fine. I have a bit over two weeks to wait for my surgery, but the jitters are creeping in occasionally. Sometimes I think "OMGosh, what the hell am I doing?!!" and then I realize I'm just stressed. I know because I'm cursing. And it passes and I get excited again. Keep posting and begging for encouragement. Things get busy and hectic around here (LBT) and we can hardly keep up...don't be afraid to yell over the din..."here I am!!!" Your gonna do great!
  18. So, I hate my supplements, especially my multi Vitamins. I have the Kirkland brand from costco and they are HUGE. If it was just that one pill, I could probably such it up, but as for most, they are just part of the deal. There is also the B12, my 2 "hair and Nails" (with Biotin) and then I take Zyban - those are all big dumb pills. I am also taking D3 and E but those are the soft caps which I don't have a problem with. Now, my main problem is that I really have the hardest time getting those big ones down. I dread taking my pills in the morning (but it'a not like it is better in the afternoon) because let's be honest, who wants to start the day gagging - or gag at any time of the day? I checked at CostCo after a lot of people recommended the MultiVites but their Vitamin panel is just really poor I think. I feel like I would have to double, if not triple the dose to get to where I need to be. I looked at some of the other ones, like Flintstone complete and they are a little better but there I am worried that they are those chalky chewables that are just a different way of miserable. I then took a look at the liquid vitamines, and they have a product called Reviva which looks like it has a lot of good stuff: http://www.revivanutrition.com/product_more.html#p1 Has anyone tried this? The vitamin panel is still not comparable to the big old daily multis because it is better than the MultiVites. I will still think I'll double up or at least get 3 tablespoons (or a shot glass and imagine I am doing shots at 7am!!!) You can just dump it in your beverage and drink it that way. It has a lot of goodies I like the fact that it actually has 4 g of Fiber because getting in fiber is difficult. It has Super Fruits and antioxidants, zinc, ginko biloba, lycopene - here is the full panel: What's the experience with liquid vitamins? Is anyone taking this product?

    No Energy

Cheznoel is right.....Rome was not built in a day. Don't under estimate the assault this surgery has on your body. I was very much out of sorts for a good 2.5 weeks, and didn't really feel "good" until 4 weeks. During the first three weeks I had weepy moments, and felt very frustrated at times. Even yesterday, I was so out of sorts, and all I wanted to do was eat......but I couldn't. I wanted to take a sleeping pill to escape, but I had to just sit with the feelings & wait for it to pass. Give yourself a break.... If you feel sad or out of sorts, allow yourself to feel it; don't fight it. Just rest, go for a walk, read a book, etc. The days will pass soon enough, and you will come through this.
  20. It's amazing how different doctors do different post op diets. I am 7 days post op and start shakes today. I do liquids & shakes for 1 week, then move to creamed soups. I can't have mushies for 2 more weeks.....yikes! I want more! I see my NUT today and since I feel fine and hungry, I hope she let's me try something early.

    Wedding

Well, that's 7,000 extra calories in 2 days....the food must have been REALLY, REALLY good and REALLY, REALLY rich. Seriously, a portion of that is Water being held by your body. You had no control over the preparation of any of the food that you ate all weekend. Likely there was more salt that you use at home. Just drink your water as usual, get what exercise you can (maybe free weights or something like that?) and the 2 pounds will be gone in no time. Weight Watchers says you are good if you are within 3 pounds of goal. You did fine! You just have to rein it in and see what happens. I'm predicting the 2 pounds will be gone by Wednesday or Thursday.

    Wedding

3 Days, We were invited to the rehearsal, the wedding day, and the day or return travel. The weight would be off today if I could get outside and run in this Soup, but have to let the foot rest another day. Now that I mentioned it, it probably was the rehearsal dinner that did me in. I did good on the wedding day and the travel day back, but the rehearsal dinner was at an Italian restaurant and they served Veal that was excellent, first time I've had it since surgery.

    exercise, economy, and ugh

I can totally empathize. My membership is $64/month, and with this economy, I feel it's too much of a luxury (although can you really put a price on health?). I know a few people who absolutely swear by Turbo Jam. I have been looking into it for a while, and I'm finally going to buy it. The reviews are phenomenal if you don't have knee problems. It's a combination of dancing and kick boxing; really high-energy and upbeat, hip-hop music. It goes for about $80 for all the DVDs and weight gloves, but you can find it a bit cheaper on E-Bay. Slightly expensive, but over the long run, much cheaper than the gym! I can't wait for my exercise ban to be lifted...3 weeks to go!

    Weightloss Plateau...

I know it is frustrating, but plateaus do and will happen. You have averaged nearly 6 pounds a week so far. Your body is just saying "Hey... let me catch up" How many calories are you eating a day? Are you getting your protein and water?
