    Am I a slow looser

I am 10 weeks out and have lost 56 pounds total; 39 pounds since 12/26 surgery. It sounds like we are losing at about the same rate. I am trying to just follow the plan, drink my water, eat my protein & exercise. Sooner or later, the weight will come off, just maybe not as quickly as I want it to. Be gentle with yourself; you are doing fine! You have lost the weight of a young child!!! Celebrate the joy of the scale dropping rather than going up!

For those of you with a 4cc band only!

I don't know what a sweet spot is but I had two fills. 2cc and then another .5 for a total of 2.5cc. First one was at 6 weeks and then 4 weeks later for the second...that was 10 weeks out. That got me to goal and then some. I never had to go back in for a fill. When I passed goal by 10 pounds, I went in for an unfill of .2 and here I remain.

    PBing at night

I had my second fill on Monday, tolerated liquids well during the day and went to bed. I had a lot of reflux during the night which turned into more of a slimy PB in the morning. The next day I only had tea for Breakfast, a small shake at noon, and only Water after that. Got a good night's sleep. I ate very little yesterday--a hard boiled egg and some cheese--no problem. I went to bed at 10 pm and have PB-ed probably every half hour since then. It is now 4 am. I am fine sitting here at the computer, but as soon as I lay down it will start up again. I know I could call my doctor, but the problem is that my insurance wouldn't cover the surgery so I was banded in Mexico and found a local doctor who agreed to do the fills here. When I went in on Monday the office manager informed me that this doctor no longer wants to do fills for Mexican patients--she gave me a song and dance about how expensive Malpractice is. They are going to increase the charge for my fills big time, and I can't afford to just go in and have a little taken out unless it's an emergency. So far I feel fine--no dehydration or anything as I am able to eat and drink during the day. But I don't know how long I can go without sleep! I'm thinking that I may have a hiatal hernia? I just don't know.

The other side of the ticker....

I am close to ONEderland. I have lost over 80 lbs and that is great, but I am starting to look at the other side of the ticker. I finally have less than 60 bls to loose to make it to goal. 50-something is a great thought when you start with 140 on that side! I also see this as an amazing accomplishment to get to the point in my journey that I start to look at the goal and not getting 25% to goal or 50% to goal. I'm sure I will celebrate ONEderland (hopefully next week) and I think I will treat myself to a manicure when I get to the century mark. The small goals I set for myself are great but this is a milestone I didn't anticipate and it is a great surprise! I know I am still months and months away from goal, but I am starting to feel like it is something I can accomplish and this is the first time that I really started to feel that way. It was just arbitrary goal. A couple of days a go a friend said "Another 60 lbs? Really?" I said well that is a healthy BMI. What should my goal be? He couldn't really argue with that. If I get down to 165 that will be awesome and losing anything more than that will be gravy. I hope I can get to 142.5 That will be half of what I used to weigh and that is my goal. I always say "Aim high if you want to accomplish great things!" Banded 10-29-08 Dr. Kirshenbaum Denver, CO Self Pay - $9950

  6. It's just me and the husband also, he's never stopped me from doing this. It was my choice, but I did want him in with me. Almost 2 years out and we go to dinner a lot during some weeks, I counted that I made dinner twice in one week. There was so much leftovers in fridge that I made it all in 2 days for the both of us. Days we stay home like tonight, I might pull out chicken breast or hamburgers. He will grill but I have to come out to make sure it's done. Sometimes I will have 3 breast on so dinner is made for the next day. He puts bbq sauce on his and mine no sauce sometimes I just put a little on my plate to dip sparingly so I feel I'm not left out. Last night I was on my lap pad till almost 5pm! Yep sometimes we get carried away and sometimes not. So he said lets go get Mexican ok I said. I had refried Beans and a steak Quesadilla with tomatoe and lettuce, wrong thing to order for me. Did not like the steak at all but ate few bites and didn't take any home. So here I sit with 3/4 still on my plate or more, told my husband I couldn't eat anymore he just looked at me and finished his plate. 9 times outta 10 times I take home a doggie bag as we call it cuz our 2 babies love it when we come home smelling of food! Usually it's just a bite or two to them and in fridge it goes. And I'm sorry but I can't eat a meal without a sip of water! Yep big no no I know. I take so many meds my mouth is consistently dry, Down to the teeth, so it's very hard for food to go down when I eat certain things. I do hope everyone out there is doing their best keeping the men/women in your life happy. Take home your leftovers and have some for lunch while they are at work or you take some to work if that's what you do. My husband is 63 and retired from ARMY and UPS, so he doesn't work any more. I am disabled due to COPD and Bipolar/Anxiety. We're together most times 24/7, love him being home with me. He's napping on the couch next to me and I'm on my iPad reading a lot of questions and answers. You don't realize how this site has gotten me back where I started from. Guess I got a little carried away there on this reply. Valentina, I'm so sorry for your loss. The reply you gave was so moving to me thank you.

    Drinking with meals

I learned long ago to rather drink before eating. It avoids making an aquarium in your stomach because drinking slides through if no food is there yet. Now after the sleeve, I can't drink right after eating, feels very not right to me. 36yo Male HW:308 SW:302 CW:228 Sleeved 01/30/2017

    Still fat mentally?

I agree that you've lost a lot of weight very fast. Faster than me. I don't think I'm fat anymore. But feeling relatively slim is also a new shift in perspective for me. I wear 8s and 10s right now. Not 6s. I think if you're really wearing 6s and feel fat ... that's a little strange. Sixes are very, very small!
  10. Alright, so... It seems that I rather suck at eating. I was fortunate enough to have my appetite and hunger return a mere 6 weeks after surgery, so getting appropriate nourishment hadn't been much of a struggle from that time until recently. Somewhere around 4-6 weeks ago, my appetite and most of my physical hunger (barring perhaps the middle of the night or first thing in the morning) seem to have just switched off. Since then, hitting my goals has become quite the battle. This morning I poured over my MFP entries to average out my calories and Protein for the past month, and it came out to 687 calories (current goal range is 900-1100) and 68g protein (surgeon's goal range is 75-113g, my personal minimum is 90g). And if I'm being entirely honest with myself, several of those days were 'padded' a little. Not deliberately - just things like recording a Protein Bar but only finishing half, recording a snack I intend to eat at work but forgetting, things like that. I know that I shouldn't be consuming so few calories at this stage, and that getting my protein in should be my top priority. I know that I need to suck it up and eat whether I like it or not. I know that eating when you don't want to is no walk in the park for anyone. But I feel that I am having a particularly difficult time with it. I've no problem with the timing - its not that I'm just getting busy and forgetting that its time to eat (okay maybe a few times, but its not the main issue), so setting an alarm won't help much. The problem is that if I don't feel like eating, then not only do I flat out not WANT to, but I am physically averse to doing so. The thought of it turns my stomach. Having food in my mouth can trigger my gag reflex. Swallowing becomes very difficult. I instantly feel 'full' and like I'm stuffing every bite. Now there is nothing physically wrong with me, as I can eat just fine when I actually want to. I really don't know what the problem is. Full disclosure: I do have a notable history with eating disorders (nothing threat-of-hospital-worthy since my late teens, however I've had more minor relapses as recently as 2010), but I truly don't believe that's what's going here. An eating disorder involves a certain mentality that simply isn't present right now...not to mention that I've grown too old for that sh*t. I don't know if its the summer heat, the upset of my recent move, working for the first time in a decade, having to share a house...whatever. I don't want to make excuses. I've been considering returning to a liquid diet for a week or so to see if the absence of solid food will re-trigger my hunger/desire for it. Does anyone think that might work? I'm quite certain I'm not the only one in the history of WLS who has struggled with this. If you are one of them, what has worked for you? How have you been able to get passed this? Does anyone have any suggestions? Harsh words are as welcome as supportive ones here - I know that I'm totally f*cking myself over right now. I'm going to end with a few stats and tidbits so no one is forced to dig around in my profile or past posts for relevant information if they don't want to: Gastric bypass on 25 Jan 2016 (5.5 months post-op) Pre-op loss = 86 lbs, Post-op loss = 64 lbs (month 1: 26 lbs, month 2: 13 lbs, month 3: 9.5 lbs, month 4: 10 lbs, month 5: 3.5 lbs, month 6: 2 lbs so far) Age 35, 5'7", 205 lbs, goal 170 lbs I currently have NO medical team due to my recent move to Canada, so consulting my surgeon/nut/psych is not an option. I must fulfill a 3 month residency requirement to qualify for insurance here, then I can get a referral to a new team for further care (paying out of pocket is not possible for me at this time). The vast majority of days still include adequte Fluid intake and Vitamin supplementation Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to read my novelette and reply to it.
  11. My drs office faxed everything to my insurance a week ago today, and they told me they'd hear something in 7-10 days but my insurance is usually awesome about approving. Should I be worried that I haven't heard 'yes' yet, or relieved cos there hasn't been a 'no' yet? How soon did you guys all hear?

    Anyone having surgery in November?

My date is November 10. I'm so excited. I can't wait to be on the other side of this! I have my pre op appointments tomorrow, and so far haven't been given a pre op diet. He told me not to gain any weight, but that's all. My brain is in weight loss mode, so I'm doing Protein shakes for Breakfast, a 300 calorie lunch and a 300 calorie dinner, at least for now. Even with that, I've only lost 1 1/2 pounds in 4 days. Does anyone know why I wasn't given a pre surgery diet?

I am a CHEATER and I need help!!

Thanks Casscass- Good Luck with your pre op diet..Ya know, it's not so much the diet that I see as challenging, it's the freedom to choose what you eat. I am the type of person that you can tell exactly what to eat for 10 days or 2 weeks and I will do it. I hope you find it much easier than me...in fact, nevermind, you will do great!!! Keep in touch and let me know how low carb does for you.

Hi Sherry! I, too, was banded yesterday (10/7). I am having quite a bit if muscle soreness espeially at the port site, My belly is very bruised, too. I have no regets for getting the band. 17. I'm new to the forum so apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place. I'm in the UK and looking for other people who are considering the sleeve or already going through the procedure who are in the UK. I have a BMI of 56 and my GP has offered me weight loss surgery. I've been battling my weight for 10 years and I'm strongly considering the Sleeve. Thanks for reading.
  18. I work out in the morning right after a light Breakfast. If I don't do it then, ill find excuses throughout the day. I'm not a morning person either so I set my alarm early enough for me to get up and relax a half hour before I start. I'm a nurse too, but my shifts are usually 9-10 hours and they exhaust me, so I can only imagine how hard it is for y'all to make yourself do it. My feet, legs, and back KILL me and i have to force myself to exercise. Gone are the days I volunteered for double 16 hour shifts lol. Not worth it!

    Anyone from U.K. here?

My family are all in Barnstaple now, but my sister used to live in Little Torrington years ago I'm originally from London. No, the sleeve was a disaster for me from the start. I was one of those rare creatures who get a leak... Had to stay in hospital for 3 months and had multiple surgeries to fix it. Then because of the surgeries my sleeve stretched out. I put on 25 pounds, which I've now lost (plus another 10) and bob's yer uncle, all is well. How was it having surgery in the UK? Was it on the NHS?
  20. I threw a frigging tantrum to get refilled after cancer treatment my doc kind of wants me 10 kg heavier, right at the TOP of my healthy weight range. It makes me furious, i have the ight to choose my own weight thanks and i will not be contstrained by averages. I think i may have even sworn, lol.

Did you say "what did I do" !

My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner - my surgery was 10 Nov 2015. I'm curious as to the source of the remorse. Is it the pain? Missing food? Realization that your eating life is forever changed? I seem to have been one of the lucky ones. My surgery was 10 Nov 2015. I went home the same day. I had only minor discomfort the first few days but no real pain. At one point I wondered if they actually performed the surgery until I realized I couldn't eat more than 1/4 of a cup. Of course, I miss all the holiday dinners and treats --- but then I look at the 39 pounds I have lost so far and smile.
  22. Fluffnomore

Am I Selling My Sleeve Short?

I don't have anywhere near your stats but my goal weight is definitely overweight for the BMI chart, and it is 10 pounds lower than the weight discussed with the surgeon. I am so early in the process that I'm just going to see how it all goes. But I am not (so far) hung up on that dumb chart. :-)
  23. When I feel hungry and it is not time to eat yet, I wait untiI have sipped a 10 oz bottle of Water. Usually the urge goes away. Another option is sugar-free popsicles. My vice has been artificial sweeteners, which I realize now are teasing Miss Tummy for the taste of something sweet. I stopped sweeteners on Sunday and the scale (which has been stuck for six months) has started moving again. Stalls are quite common around the third week post-up. It is like your body is pausing to regroup. In the meantime, eat your Protein first - all of it, before eating other foods. This will help you feel full, and the feeling lasts longer than if you eat something starchy. Starches make you hungry for more starches.

    10 Months Post Op Update

I did have a fat % check at my 6 month post op. They said I was pretty much allowed to get to 130 but they would rather me not get lower than 135. I'm 5'6 so I'm not super tall. I'm trying to find the sheet they gave me with my fat %. It was on the higher end of normal which is why I want to lose 10 more. I think it will give me a bit of a cushion and with as much as I run I think 10 pounds might make it a little easier. They said I technically don't have to lose more because I'm athletic and have a normal BMI but I just think I will feel better if I shed a little more. At least under 150, I'm not too worried about the number tho. I've been going off what feels good. Also tho, you've been working out a lot since your six months so your fat percentage probably dropped tremendously in that time frame. You likely have a lot more muscle now than you did then. You look freaking amazing!!! Great job maintaining and keeping yourself looking great. I hope I get awesome results like you. Keep up the good work. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Soft Foods!! Yay!

So I had my staples removed today, Thank God! I was in such discomfort from them and even though i'm still a little sore, I feel so much better that they are out. I was also told that I could do soft and pureed foods for the next two weeks. I feel like it's been so long!!! After the 10 days pre-op and the last 2 weeks, I'm jello-d and yogurted out!! I cam home and immediately made scrambled eggs ... they never tasted better! So, now onto the next phase. Any suggestions for what's good and what to avoid during these 2 weeks? Thanks!!
