  1. As long as you understand that the best you will be able to do is minimize it and not prevent it, you should be too disappointed. I have pretty bad sagging skin on my chest, belly, lower back, and inner thighs. Unless I somehow find a way to take in 6500 calories and dedicate all of my free time to lifting, there is no way to fill all that skin with muscle. It's really going to depend on what you are wanting to get out of the gym. If you want to build muscle, your focus will be on progressively loading and lifting heavy weights. Cardio will deplete your reserves. If you are wanting to be lean and muscular, cardio first and just do what you can with weights. I have a regimen that I used the first year before I transitioned to heavy lifting. It's in the Guy's Room: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/361768-by-request-bigviffer-workout-routine/ I have since moved over to a Starting Strength routine. Much different without as much variety. But that is a pretty good starting point. I really appreciate the information. This is very helpful, and I believe that my gym has all the equipment you mention available as well.
  2. Congrats! I look forward to seeing your progress! I would say: 1. be prepared for surprises. maybe what you think will be hard won't be (That was true for me) and maybe something you didn't think would be a big deal will be. this is quite an adventure. 2. be patient with yourself especially in that first month as you heal. That is your only job at the beginning. the weight loss will come - first the healing. 3. sip, walk, sip, walk
  3. Oh and I forgot to add that I haven't lost any weight either.

I have not tried all 3, I bought isopure but haven’t tasted it yet. I’m planning to start using it when I hit the liquid stage. Hoping someone has tried them and has good info to share 🤞🏼[emoji16] Have a great day! Amanda [emoji16] HW 248 CW 241 Surgery Date: pending 11/21/2017. Goal weight 150’ish [emoji23]
  5. I've been gaining and losing the same pound for two weeks now, and am guessing this is the 3 month stall. What I'd like to know is how many of you experienced the 3 month stall, and how long you were stalled for. Thanks!

    This is who I am

Welcome to the site! As a heads up, if you're scared you might want to look more at posts from people who are at least 2 months post-op. The first two months post-op seem to be pretty miserable (I'm in the third week right now), but after that most people tend to say it's the best thing they've ever done. Do you have a good support team? It's great that your husband worked on weight loss with you! My therapist has been invaluable dealing with the emotions of this process, so I highly recommend finding one if you haven't yet.

My wife has Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and Raynaud's disease. The place where I had my surgery, Trinity Medical in Tijuana, also has other clinics. The do cancer treatment, stem cell therapy and immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is what you want to look in to. The cost is just slightly more expensive than my sleeve. If you want my coordinators information just send me a message. I'm not trying to talk you out of the sleeve but I will say that my wife isn't heavy but her bmi is around 29-33 depending on how active her Lupus is. When it flares she starts to gain weight and then she goes from quinicrine to prednisone and her weight continues upward until the lupus is under control and she can get back to her regular meds. You may have a problem with food, medications or both.

    My Protein Bomb Breakfast

Okay Bluto...here's the deal. Yes you can absorb the Protein. But protein synthesis is the real goal. Without it, no muscle regeneration. The study was done at UTMB back in 2009 showing that more than 30 grams of protein per meal did not increase protein synthesis. So, you can eat more, but it will not benefit you except in adding excess calories. Being on my phone at the moment, here's the best link I can find to the info... But yes...as you say, NOTHING is cut and dry when it comes to healthy eating, weight loss and fitness. For every concrete study you can find proving the sky is blue, some researcher some where will try to prove it's green. That's where real world experience of so many people in the field comes into play. Their experience, while anecdotal, can also illuminate successful strategies that scientific studies fail to do. http://www.utmbhealth.com/wtn/Page.asp?PageID=WTN000504

    This is who I am

I have rheumatoid/psoriatic arthritis. While not the same as lupus, inflammation drives all of the auto-immune disorders. There hasn't been any good studies done, so the data is mostly anecdotal, but my rheumatologist said there was a good chance having the surgery would lower my overall inflammation because the stomach tissue that's removed plays a role in inflammation (secretes many inflammatory hormones) as do the fat cells. While it doesn't promise remission, my experience has been that once the post-op inflammation/flare died down, my overall inflammatory factors have declined and the meds are working better. So we won't have to pursue biologic therapies anytime in the foreseeable future. So the surgery can help beyond just the weight loss. It's not a guarantee, by any means, but it might help overall.
  10. Hi my name is Tia. I'm 25 years old and I'm a mother of two beautiful children. My daughter, Emily, who is almost six..and my son, Bryan who is four years old. I got married August 14th, 2016 to the love of my life Cody. He is a daycare teacher & I work jewelry sales in walmart. We are both slowly making steps toward bettering every aspect of our lives. Just in November I recieved my high school diploma. Just last week we discovered Cody lost over one hundred pounds since we started this journey. I had lost 78 and it's slowly going back up. He started at 450lbs even & is now at 323.7. When we started this journey two years ago it was because I was diagnosed with Lupus. My endocrinologist told me that if I didn't lose weight in a quick yet healthy way, that the Lupus would complicate my life way sooner than it had to. My husband immediately jumped on board and we started hitting the trails almost every day. We are in smaller portions and we started noticing huge differences. I felt like I was becoming a better mother because I could get in the floor and play with my kids and not feel like I was dying. I had many plateaus but suddenly I hit this one that paste longer than usual. So I went and saw my pcp and she reffered me to a nutritionist to get some advice on the right things to eat. I followed Dr. Heathers steps to a T...still stuck. So then I start changing up my exercise..still stuck. So I go back to the doctor and she did some tests and her and the endocrinologist agreed that the Lupus had begun effecting my weight loss. Lupus in some weird way was litterally fighting me on this. I was heart broken...all that hard work to avoid surgery in the first place down the toilet. So here I am..six days before surgery scared to death and praying God gives me this second chance at life. I'm so scared I'm going to mess this up and I refuse for that to happen. My babies need me..my husband needs me. So I'm thinking this was a wise step..finding a support group and talking to people dealing with the same thing. This is who I am now♡ Sent from my SM-S820L using the BariatricPal App

    Hi

@GFerg1986 welcome to our "small" group - we get "smaller" every day "slow loser, maybe that’s because I weigh myself every day, by the end of the week it feels like forever". or - weighing yourself every day - scale doesn't move, so you feel like you are always at a stall!! many of us have trouble staring/concentrating on the scale (I do/did) KNOCK IT OFF!! LOL - your weight loss is moving along steadily and fine read the boards, - questions, answers, experiences from all. you will probably see similar questions/thoughts that you have. Absorb all the info, comments from OP -BUT at the end of the day, listen to ONLY your doc and NUT) short for nutrition (and me too of course!! LOL) see you around the neighborhood keep up the good job kathy

I have ordered from them for years. I can only speak to the Wonder Slim Protein shakes and bars, but I can honestly say they taste wonderful! My most successful attempts at weight loss in the past have been using these products as part of a modified fast (drink shakes for Breakfast & lunch, one lean/green meal at night). I have literally survived on these shakes and bars for months on end (several times), which I could never have done if they tasted nasty. I actually just got a new order in the other day to get ready for my full liquid stage post-op (being banded on Wednesday). My favorite flavors in the shakes are chocolate & mocha, but I also like the chocolate mint pretty well. The vanilla and the strawberry are great too, I just don't reach for those flavors as often because they're not my favorites. The Protein Bars are excellent too, my favorites right now are the oatmeal cinnamon raisin, chocolate chip cookie dough, double chocolate, and chocolate mint. They really do taste like candy bars! I have actually used them as a "treat" before instead of a candy bar and they are quite satisfying to the sweet tooth. I'm not going to list all the nutritional facts here, because you can see them on their website, but they are high protein, low fat, low calorie, good choices. And no, I'm not affiliated with them at all, just a happy customer! HTH!

    FED BCBS

I have BCBS-Fed and just completed my 3 month yesterday!!!! My BMI was right at 41 so I couldn't afford to lose any weight during the 3 months. I lost 2 lbs the first month and then gained 3 by the last month. It really depends on your BMI.... if you are way over 40 then I would recommend attempting to lose weight. If you are not, then DO NOT lose any weight!! Insurance will not approve you if you are not 40 BMI. I am currently waiting for the word from Dr's office on whether I'm approved or not. They submitted to insurance yesterday, so I should know before the end of the week. I'll keep you updated
  15. Yes, but you made it through most of bandster hell AND lost weight....not everybody (ME!!!) loses weight, so you have done well. Keep doing what you are doing and the pounds will come off. Slowly is healthy!!!
  16. I had the surgery on may 31st at Southeast memorial I lost 32 pounds but had to get gal bladder taken out and I gain 6 pounds I don't know what to do

    FED BCBS

Hello everyone! I have FEDblue also and I just started my 3 month process last week. So i will finish my 3 months in December, right? The coordinator told me that BCBS usually takes 30 days to approve. My BMI is exactly 40 so I can't afford to loose any weight at all, right? I'm sorry, I just have so many questions! Anywhose, from what I'm learning from you all, it doesn't take that long. Does anyone have any new news on their insurane approval?? I'm so nervouse to start this but i want the three months to go by fast!!! LOL Melissa
  18. Your "sweet spot" is where you have enough restriction to eat a lilttle but not so tight that it won't go through -- AND you're losing weight. Ta -- you were still technically in the healing stages. ANY weightloss during the first month or so is a bonus since the focus is not on losing weight but on the band healing properly. Hope that helps you fret less.
  19. I was sleeved on Nov 13 , 2013 , so appoximatly 3 1/2 months post op . My start weight was 237 , Day of surgery 222 and as of this morning 185 . I found that the first 2 1/2 months , I was much like you after just a few bites and I was so full that if i took another bit ,I ended up throwing up but with the creamy or chunky soups I never had a problem eating a full cup . I find that with time , I can hold down more food but I don't know if that's good or not , because I have a sense of guilt . I don't push myself I have always known when to stop . This past month I have been craving hearty meals and I seem more hungry more frequent . I am not to worried because my weight lose seems steady 51- 52 lbs in 3 1/2 months is pretty good.

    BCBS NY requirements

It’s probably going to vary plan by plan and practice by practice. That being said, if you’d been seen by my surgeon, you would’ve had to have been on a pre-surgery liquid diet for a longer period of time than someone with a lower BMI, and might have had to go in for blood work while you were on the pre-surgery diet. All plans and practices seem to require some form of supervised medical weight loss program and a psych evaluation, as well as a screening for sleep apnea if you haven’t already had one. Also, though I haven’t heard it mentioned here, my surgeon requires that patients get their A1C below 7 before surgery.

    Upcoming Surgery in May!

Hi there, After having followed the site for some time, I am posting here for the first time to get some advise! Height - 4'11 HW - 222 Current Weight - 215 My surgeon has given me both options - Sleeve OR Bypass! I don't have any GERD issue or anything that may tilt the balance on one or the other. So can I please get some advise so I can make up my mind on what to choose?! I have PCOS and I want to lose about 100 pounds for my PCOS related side effects to come to a good halt. So maximum weight loss or as much as I can is definitely a key for me. Hence I was thinking *Bypass*, but then I have also followed some posters here and they have lost the same amount with Sleeve too! I would preferred Sleeve too because of little less side effects in future. But then I also don't want to get Sleeved and then not lose the desired weight, having to regret the decision not to have picked Bypass. I have also read how average weight loss is more or less similar to both in the 5 yr study, so why do some pick *Bypass* over *Sleeve*?! Any advise would be great so I don't pendulum on the options and pick one of the two!

  23. Im a little over 2 yrs out and im pretty much the same. I might be able to eat a bit more than you but if i hit that wall Its coming up. I just take it in stride and try to stop before i'm full so i don't get sick. If i take a long time to eat I'll be tight and that meal will be really small. That next meal won't be as small. If im eating dense protein my meals will always be just a few ounces. Just the cost of doing business. So long as you are healthy and have no issues and aren't losing a ton of weight i say go with it. But if it's really getting to you talk to your surgeon and NUT. Can't hurt. Shoud I or should I not

The pain after surgery is fairly bad for 3 or 4 days. But it's not unbearable. I was never nauseous except immediately after surgery in the hospital and they gave me meds for that. The surgery is easy and quick, I was home the same day. For me, I'm 4 months out, I've lost 48lbs. I've NEVER had any food get stuck. My appetite is gone. (doesn't meanI don't WANT food, but I'm never hungry) I was more scared when I read this board.. But it really is different for everyone. The way people use the tool is different for everyone... I would say if you can commit yourself to changing your eating habits then go for it, if you can stick to a 1200 calorie diet then go for it. If you still want to eat junk food all the time and expect to lose weight, forget it. It's still essentially a diet, you eat the wrong things you won't lose weight, that doesn't mean occasionally you can't have a cookie. But everything in moderation. I'm not worried about complications right now. I will cross that bridge if I get to it. It's a fairly safe operation, SO many of them have been done. The technology has improved over the years.

    Green Tea

Green Tea works like any other magic diet potion. Stop eating crap, eat tiny portions, exercise, and drink tons of Water. Then have some green tea with no added sugar or honey and you'll lose weight. Magic. I drink tons of green tea but I'm still mucho fatto.
