Anyone Stall After Hitting The Gym?
Ready4success replied to NotsoSlimShady's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Could it be the 3 week stall that coincidentally started around the time you started at the gym? I stalled for 2 weeks between the 3rd amd 4th weeks post-op. We're sleeve siblings, I was sleeved on the 28th too! -
Just wanted to introduce myself

Hi & WELCOME You have an awesome start on your journey! Good luck & try not to get discouraged if the weight loss slows down a bit or even stops until you get some restriction going. I went through an eight week period and didn't lose a single lb. keep your eye on the goal & remember how far you have come already! WTG!!! 278/231/180 -
I thought it would be helpful if we shared our best recipes for weight loss. I know that my surgeons office recommends having at least 5 to 6 Protein Shake recipes that you like. I have only just experimented with four. Three of which I like. Also if you find RTD Protein Shakes that actually taste good, I would love to know which ones they are. Here is my favorite Protein shake recipe so far OMG chocolate banana shake One scoop Jay Robb chocolate Protein Powder 1/2 C. vanilla greek yogurt 1/2 to 1 C. skim milk 1/2 banana Put all ingredients together and blend. Depending on how much skim milk you use it has about 350 calories and 41 grams of protein. I love it and do not feel deprived drinking it. It tastes very similar to my favorite malt Chocolate Banana from Ruby's.

I should be so happy right now ?????
janinemaire replied to janinemaire's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for everyone's advice, I did listen to it. I bascally let people who were being negitive know I was doing this, I'm excited and I do not want to hear anything that was going to upset me. It worked! I think I can deal with not having certain foods for a while but I need to know once in while I can treat myself. I read one women's post said she has pizza once a week, that's will be me. Thank you again, everyone here is so amazing and helpful, Janine -
I am one week post op as of tomorrow. I had to do 10 days of a high Protein liquid only pre-op diet. It was very difficult the first 3-4 days, but it did get a little bit easier after that. It wasn't ever a walk in the park, but what kept me on the "straight & narrow" was the fact that I had heard/read that some surgeons won't do the surgery if they get in there and realize you didn't do the pre-op diet. That would really stink to go through the getting on the operating table and waking up in recovery only to find out they couldn't do it. The reason I was told they want people to do the pre-op diet is to shrink up the fat around your organs so it is a much smoother operation and recovery. I know not all surgeons seem to require a pre-op diet, but a lot of them do. Hang in there! It will be worth it! In the bigger picture of life, this will be such a small part of it, you probably won't even remember just how bad it sucks right now.

My DH just left for his big week long camping out with his highschool buddies. I know he couldn't hardly wait to go, he tries to play it down, but I know he can't wait to get there. I just wish he would get tired of them. They have been doing this for 30+ years. I think this is the first year one of the guys is only going to be there one evening. Maybe the rest will get tire of acting like kids and grow up. I know he has fun, but after 30 years it about time to give it up. I'm alone in the house and I have so much I need to be doing, but I have yet to get started. I usually get a lot done this week, while hes out of the house. He isn't going to Canada fishing this year, this will be the first year in about 20 that he hasn't done that. He spends more time with his buddies camping and fishing then he has with me in the 37 years. I can count on one hand how many vacations we have had together. I should never have let him start all the trips, but I was busy with kids, working, and I never seem to have the vacation time. You know I always had to take time off when the kids were sick, so I never had the time for vacations. Now that I have retired from the work force you think we would go somewhere, but no we don't. I went to New York with my girlfriend in May for 4 nights and five days, of course my DH couldn't get off work. That the usually excuse that I hear a lot when I want to go some where. He always has time for his camping trips. It really hurts my feeling. I really tried to tell him couple of years ago how I felt, but as usally he is not in tune with my feeling. He alway makes me feel guilty about things. I always felt like he is a good provider and he deserved to have special time, but sometimes I just wish we want to have the time with me. Oh well I'm just feeling sorry for myself today. The challenge for this week is to be good while I'm by myself. I know is will go good. I hope to get a lot done.

Are Any Of You Stii Using Your Cpap?
Fiddleman replied to beefalogal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stopped using it post-op. good or bad decision, I do not know. I have been thinking about a follow up appointment with the sleep doctor since I have lost nearly 100 lbs. I sleep fairly well now and feel rested if I get in 7-8 hours of sleep. On occasion, I will use unisom to ensure I get a little extra sleep if I have shorted my self on sleep during the week. I like unisom because it doesn't give you that huge hangover for 1/2 the next day like some sleep aids I have used(Costco, Tylenol pm). The question I have is what to do with the cpap? I was thinking of selling it on eBay since I own it. Have you seen others doing this and is it legal? I also thought about keeping it because my wife is on the fence about being sleeved and she may need one for insurance purposes. Any thoughts? Currently it is a 1600 dollar brick sitting under my bed. -
hello, for my experience the pain of the surgery was none but the gas pain was hoorible worse than i have ever felt, i gave birth to three kids and this pain was not even close to having kids. it lasted for 2 weeks i did all the stuff the doctor said but really nothing helped thill it totally went away well sometimes i still get it after eating and its bad for about 1 hour, other than that pain wize is no bigge, but let me tell you i did not loose any weight the first 4 months because i could'nt eat any healthy food at all, the only stuff that went down was junk food wich freeked me out i was thinking to my self i spent 13,000 for this bad very discourage but arter a while i decided that not becausei could eat it i would. so i went back to basics diet, exercise cuz lapband is not a miracle at all if you dont change the way you eat and exercise you will not loose weight for some people weight just comes off for other like myself its ben very hard sometimes i feel that it was a waist of money becacse what im doing i could of done it will out the band,i wish i had reserched this surgery more and lissent to all the bad lapband stories out there. hope i dont discourage you that is just my personal experience, stay strog and do wats best for you.

Hello Everyone, I am new to the site and just wanted to say hi to everyone. I was banded on January 24th. at Kaiser in Harbor City and my doctor is Dr. Zane. Prior to starting the classes with Kaiser I was 316lbs. and currently as of today the 11th of June I am at 251.5lbs. :cool2: I originally was going to get the Gastric Bypass but upon researching online the various options, I found the LapBand was better for me. I hired me a personal trainer at the gym and meet with her twice a week and twice a week I workout by myself. I attend the support group Kaiser offers but almost everyone except for 2 of us had the Gastric Bypass. I would like to see if anyone knows of a support group in the closest to Los Angeles. I did have a question for those who are more familiar with the band. I already had my first fill of 1cc in my 4cc band in March. I am going for my second fill on the 16th of this month. I am planning on flying to Las Vegas on July 3rd and fly back on July 7th and heard someone say that when the altitude changes that your ban gets really tight and stays that way for a few days. Is this true? :confused2: I look forward to talking with people who have the band and learning from their experiences.

Welcome! Head hunger is something you'll work on throughout your journey. It's a challenge but once you're able to clearly recognize it (something I think surgery does make easier) you will have the opportunity to stop indulging it - which is the first and most important step. Yes, I'd buy a number of Protein samples and keep them around until post op. I'm two years from surgery in two weeks and I still try to drink a shake daily. My tastes have changed a few times since surgery and I've changed "favorite" Proteins two or three times. One constant: Syntrax nectar Sweets in chocolate truffle and vanilla bean torte. I mix them in with coffee or tea each morning. Yum - they're the only shakes I've never gotten sick of drinking and they mix into cold or warm liquids without clumping. As for Pasta, HA! Everyone is different but I'm two years out and still can't eat more than a few bites of rice, tortilla or pasta - they gum up and make me overfull and uncomfortable. Controlling your food choices gets easy if the hunger goes away post op. Once you realize you can eat real food again but only two or three bites at a time, food loses some of it's interest. It took me nearly a year to really enjoy food again. Not everyone goes through this, but for me, eating was a chore and it was hard to force myself to eat enough each day. I hated it, actually. I never really regretted surgery, but I did have a rough patch where I felt like food was still controlling my life because I had to eat around the clock to reach my nutritional goals. That passed once I got to the point where I could eat a decent amount of food in a sitting, though, and while I'm still sometimes frustrated (I'd like to eat the whole sandwich instead of just half once in a while!) I'm very happy for the most part. Best of luck to you. I hope you find support and answers to your questions on these boards. ~Cheri

KATIE!! CONGRATS!!! Now - TAKE A DEEP BREATH... 1. It sounds like all of your ducks are in a row - the only ??? is your weight. 2. Instead of stressing about whether or not you've gained, start TODAY with some healthy eating. You KNOW you're NOT saying goodbye to anything forever, so you don't need to do the last supper thing this week and a half. 3. I know all of this is a huge surprise now that all is approved and happening so fast - BUT - you have waited TWO YEARS for this!! YOU ARE READY!!! Breathe, breathe, breathe... You are SO ready. You are going to do great. Your dream is coming true - embrace it! And Kathy is right on the money - have a friend whisk you off to a hotel for overnight. ((hugs)) -
I had a ct Iv contrast and still two weeks and only spots swollen are where I have tatoos

Thank you all for your words of encouragement, it helps so much. You're all right, it's best to stick to what the doctor orders, he knows what he's doing. I have an appt tomorrow with him, 1 week pre-op, I hope all goes well and the doctor doesn't put the breaks on everything....good luck to everyone.

I have finally finished the program for gastric bypass. I started the multi disciplinary program on Jan 22 and finished on June 1st. I would have finished sooner if I didn’t test positive for H pylori in April. I was told I’ll get a call this week with a date (if everything goes well and they don’t need anything else for me) Anyone want to share how long it took to get a surgery date after completion of their program? And how far out the surgery was/is? My surgeon is Dr Hess at Boston Medical Center.

When you eat something that disagrees with you...

Do you throw it up right away or are you nauseous for a couple of hours? How does it work? I'm having surgery next week and I'm freaking out but Im so excited at the same time! I have never felt such dual emotions! -
Hi everyone, This is my first time on this site, and I'm not even sure if I'm posting a question in the right area! Over the past few weeks I have SERIOUISLY been considering the LAP-BAND® surgery. I feel like once I decided I've had ENOUGH being extremely overweight, this surgery and new way of life is all I can think about! I've been reading up on any information I can find over the past few weeks, however I can not find a definite answer to one important question I have. I was diagonised with Graves Disease, (hyperthyroidism) about six months ago. (I'm one of the lucky 5% that GAINS weight...) I'm taking thyroid medication right now. Also, I was lucky enough to finally confirm I have PCOS. No excuses... but obviously it is extremely hard for me to lose weight! I'm nervous I won't be approved for the LAP-BAND® since I have a Thyroid disease, which is technically autoimmune. Was/is anyone out there in the same boat as me? ANY information or guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Marie

First Consult Next Week, What To Expect?
whitneymalae posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have a first consultation with my surgeon next Tuesday (woohoo!). I know that different surgeons have different steps but I was wondering what all you guys had to go through first. I know there are more steps if you go through insurance but I am paying out of pocket for it. Thanks! -
I slept on my side as soon as I got home from hospital which was day 4, but I had a pillow that I had to prob my belly on so that it didn't feel like anything was pulling. I'm 2.5 weeks out now and I still have my pillow handy.
-
Slept on my side about 1 week out with a pillow under my stomach.. no later than 2 weeks I have been back to belly sleeping ever since.
