    MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

I know I haven't lost a ton of weight yet, but I'm wondering if I carry myself any differently? Or present myself differently? even before losing any I've always tried to walk with my head up and smile, and for some reason I seem to have more people smiling back and acknowledging me? I;ve heard this can happen when peoplelose weight. Anyone else taking notice to any such thing? I know my face has thinned out. I've gone down about 2 sizes, but I know I'm still very obese. I did have a big NSV yesterday! I stopped at walmart after work and took notice of their cheapie rings...I would have looked for a size 10 before, for my left ring finger and my RIGHT is almost a size larger. I saw a really pretty blingy ring so just had to try it on my right finger (I never wear anything other than my wedding ring and have used these cheap rings at my heaviest as a wedding ring stand-in but am back to fitting my real ring). Anyway on my right hand I fit into a size 8. Fnny how little things like that can make our day huh? Yesterday was a bad day for me. I got into cookies and am afraid I ate about a weeks worth of calories. We BBQ'd for memorial day and I was so excited to eat chicken that was super moist...and it came back up. I think it's the first time eating in front of people other than my hubby where I had to make a run for the bathroom. Since this last fill/unfill I'm really having to chew and watch what textures i eat. I might actually need another .1-.2 cc removed but I want to try to work with it first. So, today is a new day and I'm moving on from the cookie binge. It's a sad day here, too, so I need to be really careful of stress eating. The kids left the front door open too long yesterday and one of our cats took off. Bromley is just a year old, and we're really attached to him. He has a total of 29 toenails, 7 feet, and is the neatest cat with such a great personaily. We adopted him in the short time we lived in Virginia and he drove back hoem across the country with us. We just lost another cat a few weeks back (in the country with coyotes). I know there's a chance Bromley will come home, but it's been almost 24 hours and I'm afraid he's become a snack. I'm actually not a cat person, but Bromley owns a little chunk of my heart and I'm devastated. I feel partly responsible because I brought home a new puppy as a house dog, and Bromley hates him. I'm afraid that's why he's been gone so long...and every minute he's out the risk of coyotes is that much bigger. Sorry to ramble.

    Weirdest NSV for me

I have also noticed that people are more engaging now...more eye contact, just saying hello, holding doors open, that kind of thing. I really felt invisible before. I had a weird NSV on Friday. I was at work and one of my regular customers came in. She said, "Are you related to Jaime?" I said, "Um, what?" She repeated it. I said, "I AM Jaime." She goes, "Oh my, I didn't even recognize you, you've lost a lot of weight, haven't you?" LOL That made me feel pretty good. I only see my customers about once a month usually, and some of them I've worked with for 2+ years now, but she's only the THIRD one to even make a comment and definitely the first to comment like that. LOL
  4. All right, I still don't see a weight loss on me personally but can this count as an NSV: I'n walking (yes walking, no mobility cart, yay!), I come across the lingerie section. I'm looking at bras and basically I could never get a strapless bra because I was a 46C. Well, I'n looking at the strapless bras because I have a halter sundress that I can't wear in public because let's face it, size 46C boobs jiggle. Well, I guess I'm losing weight even though I don't see it. My new bra size is 42C! It's always the boobs that go first lol. Oh, and I was able to wear a short sleeve button down shirt that I couldn't get passed my elbow before. So my question ladies is this, what did you notice on your body that you lost weight in first. For me it was the boobs lol!

    Losing Slow At Very Beginning?

Julie-I feel the same way. I thought that since I started with a much higher BMI that I would lose faster. Doesn't seem to be the case. It's hard not to get discouraged. People will say "Every loses at their own rate", which, while true doesn't make me feel any better. For once couldn't I be the one who loses faster!! I lost 24 pounds in my two weeks liquid pre-op. Then only like 22 my first month!! I lost that much doing WW and i got to eat all day everyday. I just try to keep telling myself- at least the weight is going in the right direction Down! for a change. And I keep telling myself that it will happen, even if i lose slower than others (especially the men!!!) It's especially hard for me- because I know from past experience that even when I lose 100# you can barely tell. Because I have so much to lose I don't get the NSV's that others do short term. When I lost the 100# before I didn't even go down a bra size or a clothes size! Yes, I felt better and was able to do more physical activity, but I didn't have anyone coming up to me and telling me how great I looked-whereas some people exhibit noticeable changes after only 30 or 50 lbs. So just try and think it doesn't matter how slow it's coming off-at least it's coming off. And we really can't compare ourselves to others-metabolisms vary-what we eat varies-amount of physical activity-even age plays a big part. Hang in there and keep working the plan and we will both get there on our own time. Slow and Steady Wins the Race!

    Twenties NSVs

these NSVs keep happening every day it feels like, which is AWESOME- but i need a place to remember them all (and i want to share them with people!) so hopefully no one here minds that i fill this thread up and hopefully someone looking into the band sees how wonderful it really is. so today was a good day, despite things that would normally suck. 1- even though i had class at 8am on a saturday and was an hour late, two really skinny and pretty girls asked me to have lunch with them later (and girls, you know what im talking about. it only matters because they are those stereotypically "pretty" girls and to formerly fat girls like myself, i was rarely asked to eat with these girls until they got to know me.) then 2- i came home and saw my neighbor who asked if i wanted to hang out with her and some friends at her place, but i told her i was a little busy and would "try." well not one but two of her guy friends came up and starting chatting me up, asking my name etc, and i think i know flirting when i see it. so 3-- the two above things didnt mean much to me all day, but then tonight when i was with my other friend nora (the girl in the red dress next to me in my pictures), she goes "jane-- seriously now, you are getting SMALLER." and i go, "really? yeah, i am aren't i!" and she was like, "yeah, i noticed it the other day when you were talking to that guy outside your apartment. i saw you and was like-- daaaaamn!" haha so anyways, funny NSVs, not significant in the grand scheme of things but its the little moments that count, right?

I don't know why I never posted this, but a couple weeks ago, I had a HUGE NSV... ... I had a lot of awesome expensive clothes I used to fit into a couple years ago, but I outgrew. Well, I gave them away to a bunch of friends to "hold onto" until I lose the weight and can wear them again. Well, that time has come and I got to reclaim them. My friends were upset that they don't get to wear my clothes anymore, but they were proud of me at the same time. ... does that make me an Indian giver??? :scared2:

I've had a few NSV's lately. ~One that I hadn't even realized I wanted-on of my dr's commenting on my skin and telling me he's going to give the name of a plastic surgeon-that totally made my day ~Starting at a 26/28, and I'm currently in 16/18's ~going from a 44G to a 36/38DDD(depends on the bra) ~ I was walking to the store last week, and a guy riding his bike whistled at me as I went past ~ Being able to borrow clothes from my mom ~ Guys telling me I'm beautiful, or sexy ~ Having lost a shoe size, I can now share shoes with my little sister ~ Going shopping, and being able to get stuff in regular sizes ~ The compliments I get from friends and family ~ My dad telling me I've inspired him. He's now training for the Ironman competition ~ My Dr.'s office asking for before and after pics to possibly use on their website/brochures ~ Being flirted with in general ~ I wore stretchy/spandex leggings to the gym!

blackcherry what a sucky nsv! im sorry to hear that. my nsv this weekend was that 3 of my friends picked me up! i asked the first one bc hes big and strong, but when he picked me up like it was a piece of cake, everyone else started saying that they could easily pick me up too! so that was something i had always wanted to do! also, we went to float the river unexpectedly so i didn't have a bathing suit with me. not only was i able to borrow a bikini from a friend who i have always thought of as normal-sized, but it was even a little big! i still wore a cover up, but it felt good to be normal and fit in with the group, and not to be embarrassed in my suit. there were a bunch more nsvs this weekend but these were the good ones!

yeah the baggy pants are great.. I love them.. My NSV for yesterday was trying to play soccer with my son yesterday and havin my pants fall to my knees while trying to run... we were in our backyard so it wasn't to embarassing... So I went in the house to get out a pair of pants from last year... and they FIT.. still a little tight but i got them on and buttoned and I could walk and sit and didn't feel uncomfortable. So I can say that as of right now I am loving the Lap-Band even more.. I started at a tight size 24 and I can wear a size 18 now.

Congrats Lurr. MY NSV has to do with Pants as well.... I 'm in that inbetween sizes phase, but am able to get my fat ass into a pair of work pants that say "12" on them.... It's so strange how NY & co runs.... I have a pair of Work pants from them that are an 18, and they are becoming loose on me. But a different cut pants are a 12 and fit nicely..... I usually have a good day when I wear the 12's lol

ok so this NSV isnt' like the usual ones you read about. kinda bitter sweet. Back in Dec i bough a new wardrobe at Torrid, and it wasn't cheap. i was so excited because i was in all the smaller sizes. flash forward to feb none of those fit. had to buy new going out and work clothes. again very excited to buy new clothes in smaller sizes so i spared no expense. Flash forward to now. had to buy more clothes. it's crazy!!! about every 3 months i change a size. don't get me wrong. i am wayyyyy excited. but today i was looking at my pile of new clothes i had bought since dec (some with tags still on them) and i added it up in my head. Hundreds of dollars!!!!! Again not complaining. i am super excited about my weight loss. just be prepared and dont go on a shopping spree the first time you go down a size  Happy to report i'm a size 12, and very very happy with my weight loss.

ok so I had two non-scale victories today! 1. I was walking out from a journalism class this morning when I walked past a friend in the newsroom. We hadn't had a class together since last year, so we haven't seen each other in 6 months, but we used to live in the same building so he saw me every day then. Well, I smiled and said hey when I walked past, and like 2 feet later he goes "JANE! i didn't even RECOGNIZE you!" and I just kind of stood there flustered and he goes "i mean, i dunno... maybe its the... peacoat? or... did you change your hair?" nope.... just a haircut that put me back to the length it was when he saw me last. so that made my morning. 2. so then, tonight, I was doing some shopping because i have to wear dress clothes for an upcoming trip and need to look professional, not the baggy-jeans look i've been sporting. after some unfortunate boot shopping when realizing that my calves will not yet fit in regular boots (when will boot manufacturers figure this out??), i went to lane bryant to see if they had anything. the sales lady goes "we have some underwear on sale..... and lucky for you we have a TON of the 14s in stock. i mean, i'm guessing thats what you are." well thank you very much! not quite yet, still in the 16s, but it was nice to have that saleslady think I was just barely fat enough to still have to shop there! sorry lane bryant, but i am sooo ready to stop shopping there! anyways, tiny NSVs.... but they are few and far between right now so i'll take what i can get!

I just had a NSV: A pair of denim capris, and a tee-shirt I have not worn in a year and a half fit- PERFECTLY!, took a shot in the dark trying the capri's on, and they slid right on and buttoned no problem!!!!!! Again, They are NY & co,Size 14 but they are slim-fit So they are probably a 12 in other stores. And when I got them they were TIGHT on me Like to the point that after I ate I had to un-button them and pull my shirt down to cover it, They looked like they were screaming- PLEASE HELP ME!!! and I had to take them off immediatly when I got home. Again for the enormousness of my behind, I have to pull them up constantly so I don't get the "cut-off roll".... The tee-shirt I just pulled it on and it fit in all the right places.... The last time this happend was 3 years ago. I'm in heaven right now!

I really think that we need to establish a thread dedicated to our NonScale Victories. So here it is: I had the best thing happened to me this weekend. But overall it was a week and weekend filled with NSVs and reassurances. I met 2 successful bandsters. Men are flirting, new ones and ones Ive known for years. WIERD! I was hanging out at my Bestie's (Jenny) house. She pulled out a picture of me from about 3 years ago. I finally saw the difference. I was a mountain. I looked swollen, full, and SO MISERABLE. Whats sad is that I remember that day and I thought I looked so cute, I looked a mess. This whole time I havent been seeing the change. I figured that I need 30 to 40 more lbs before there was a perciveable difference. I WAS SO WRONG! I am a new woman, NOW! Later, a friend of hers stopped by. When she came to say hi to me, she looked at me weird then said, "Did you lose weight? Oh my god you lost A LOT of weight!" I told her about the band (I really couldnt help myself). Later that night Jenny tells me that her friend said that (here's the best part) I looked like a "totally different person" than I did before. This girl is honest if she isnt anything else which makes it all the more amazing. It was a that moment that I felt the absolute truth of it all: I do feel like a whole different person. I am a different person. This one was long so I will write my other NSV later. Maybe Ill start a blog.

Jane, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I shared clothes with my friend the other day for the first time ever! It is such an amazing feeling to look in the mirror and be ALMOST completely satisfied with how you look. OH! One more NSV.... I've started swimming without a shirt! I've always wanted to be able to do this, but being big I never had the courage. No more!

I had a real fun NSV last night! It's probably TMI... But I gotta share with someone. I was shaving last night and could actually see my VaJayJay to shave it proper. It was amazing. I didn't have to suck my gut in or cock my leg a certain way. It was cool... I know, way too much information...

One NSV I've had is that all of my nice jewelry now fits. I got a Tiffany's bracelet for Christmas and it was too tight to wear at first. I've lost about 10 pounds and I've been wearing it every day! My rings keep sliding around on my fingers and it's driving me nuts, but it's a good thing! Have a great day everyone! Krista

I have a NSV this week, however - I'm not banded yet. Two months ago i started going to the gym everyday. When i started I could barely do the weight machines and I could only walk on the treadmill because i had no muscle in my leg. Well, this past week, i got on the precor machine and figured it's been a while and wanted to see if i could use that machine and to my suprise i could! i did it for a half hour! OMG i was so sore the next day, but i feel great that i am slowly seeing changes! yeah me!

Everyone is doing so wicked - Jane I can relate -at the end of the day yesterday my jeans were literally falling off... My roommate was in hysterics, as I was trying to clean. My first big NSV was getting ready at my parents house to go out for st. patty's on Tuesday my mom suggested a pair of boots I bought online years ago but never did up over my calves... And they did! Yeah I had to sort of slouch them a bit to get the zipper all the way done, but I got them there! Over jeans no less! Felt great.

    Name Your NSV

My biggest NSV Has to be Feeling great during a workout. At first I fought the notion of exercise. Then my daughter and I joined a club and with her help I went from 20min on the elliptical machine to 40min. Now we do even higher resistance. I never thought I could do this and I am really enjoying it. It's also is a great time with my 19 year old, skinny as a rail daughter. Another one is wearing rings that I haven't been able to fit on in years. Also I had to go through my bags of "I can't fit into these clothes" this morning!
  23. This weekend we (our family) moved my sister and her husband in with our mom. I was easily able to keep up with everyone and put in 150% effort in help moving heavy furniture, climbing around in the back of a U-haul, etc. My dad kept calling me "skinny", even though I still weigh about 15 pounds more than I did when he first started really backing and pushing (in a good way) me to get WLS years and years ago. haha Of course, I came home sore that night and the next day, but from the sound of things, I fared a whole lot better than everyone else! Lots of complaining about barely being able to move! The ONLY downside, and it can hardly even be called that, is that my bones have a lot less meat covering them now, so I did end up with several nasty bruises on my hips and shoulders from banging them around. I just can't seem to remember that they're there again! I love when the rewards of my weight loss become this evident! And all of that time at the gym with the weights is really paying off, as well!

    I have Collarbones!

Well, I just had surgery a week ago but I've already had one NSV. I got in my car to go drive around and noticed my seat belt was a little looser. I almost maxed it out prior to surgery and now there is a little wiggle room!
  25. Hi Y'all! My poor husband kids are just rolling their eyes at me lately. I guess from their point of view it is silly, but to me it is Huge! I have Collarbones! I have Knees! I can get in and out of my shower door with out scraping myself through the small door! My Triple Chin is GONE! My wedding ring Falls Off! Okay, so the last one makes me nervous, I don't want to loose my ring, but, HELLO!!!! I am so excited with these new Non Scale Victories! I am really looking forward to this summer when we can go as a family to an amusement park and I can FIT on the rides! I haven't ridden any rides for almost 20 years because I couldn't fit. I am ready for this! Life is Great!!! What are your NSV's?
