  1. A few things that I found and did when I went back to work were: You will probably be beat after work. Good idea about going back on a Thursday. That's what I did and by friday afternoon I was SOOOOOO tired. I rested the majority of the weekend. So just don't be disappointed if you go back and realize you can't keep up with the same pace that you used to. Second, I bring all my food with me. I was the epitome of the opposite of this before surgery, I bought breakfast at DD, lunch at either a diner or chinese, and then dinner, we typically went out to eat. No wonder I was so unhealthy!! Anyway, I realized 1) I wouldn't be able to get all the protein in if I didn't bring my own foods and 2) those old places didn't really have anything sleeve friendly. I"m two months out and I still can't find much that I would want to eat there. I usually bring a shake and some greek yogurt and a string cheese. That gets me through the day and then I have a really lean high protein dinner with a little veggies if I have room. I am still having a hard time getting all the fluids in during the workday because I am so preoccupied. But we'll all get there. :-) Hope this helps. It really helps if you have an understanding boss and coworkers too. Cause your feet will probably be dragging for the first week. But the energy will come back!
  2. So I haven't been on here for a while but had to share with others my experiences with the gastric sleeve. I had my surgery on April 12, 2016 the first 6-8 weeks it was going great some vomiting here and there while getting used to the new ways of life. Then the now and then became more and more frequent til I was vomiting daily. I this was not right so I had a long talk with the doctor he told me he was thinking i had a kink in the sleeve and sent me to a gastroenterologist. This doctor was sure it was a kink and scheduled me for a Esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD on August 12, 2016. The EGD went well for about 2 weeks than slowly I started vomiting again more and more, back to the doctor then to get another EGD on October 20, 2016. This time it seemed to do the job by the end of January I was doing good than the beginning of February the vomiting started again back to the doctor and April 25, 2017 EGD #3. I knew it linked again by may but I was sick of it so I decided to stick it out, BAD MOVE on July 27, 2017 I was rushed to the emergency room with Severe dehydration because I couldn't keep anything even ice down. July 29,2017 EGD #4. After that one I could tell it wasn't going to be long be i was back there and i was right November 8, 2017 I went in for EGD #5. After that last one it was a 100% different feeling not for the good but I pushed through and waited it out. I went in for my 2 year post OP appointment on April 10, 2018 (2 days before my 2 year) and doc was not happy to hear I am scheduled for my 6th EGD on May 10, 2018 so after looking at my labs and my upper GI from January I was told that my body is basically like rejecting my sleeve and my new lifestyle I have to live. So now i am waiting for a call from the doctor to start my new journey of having a gastric bypass done on my sleeve (revision) before I could think of what I should say I started crying and repeating "Why on earth did I do this to myself. I regret ever having this damn surgery". She calmed me as much as she could and now I'm waiting for this all to begin. When I was 18 months post OP my OBGYN gave me the go ahead to try for a baby. We decided to wait a little longer because he was working out of state. Now that he's back and we want to start a family I am told that I can't for another couple years. My life is crumbling and I am so disappointed that I can't start the family my boyfriend wants I'm even considering telling him to leave me and find someone that isn't a broken mess.
  3. HOORAY!! I'm so glad to hear that you're feeling so well after eight days.... wait another week and you'll feel ready to go out dancing! Get used to having one small yogurt fill you up... I'm nearly 3 weeks out and can just eat the teeniest amounts of anything... a few bites does it. I am sick to death of the mushies... ate a lot of "bites" of yogurt, cottage cheese, and mashed potatoes.... that was about all I could stand. I feel luckiy that we both got sleeved during the "fat season," we are being saved from the holiday goodies!! Keep up the good work... Cinderella
  4. You can have decaf.. I do I'm 3 weeks out..
  5. I drink decaf starbucks with two packs of splenda. I am 4 weeks postop. I have been drinking coffee since week 2.
  6. Hello everyone! I am hoping someone can help me out as this book has confused me. Alex, if you read this, please answer. I went back to this book, which I had purchased quite some time ago, just a refresh. I was looking for some information that I may have forgotten & then I remembered I had been confused when I finished it, but didn't reach out to find out the answers. So....here goes..... In regards to a diet to follow for the rest of your life, it says we should eat 60-120 gms protein which is 2.1 to 4.2 oz. It then says that we should eat 6 to10 servings, avge serving 2 oz. In other words 12 to 20 oz? From what my nutritionist prescribed, it is 5 to 7.5 oz for protein. Depending on what you can access on-line, what I read varies anywhere from 2.8 to 3 oz a DAY, to 2 oz 3Xper day. This is from nurses or nutritionists who have put their information on the vsg online. If someone could please clear this up for me, I would really appreciate it.
  7. I know stalls are common, but I'm just over a week into my first and quietly weeping in a corner. I actually gained weight the last two days, which is super sucky and not at all justified based on what I've been eating!! Which brings me to my question. Do you change your eating to break the stall, or stay the course and toss the scale in the garbage? Is a stall indicative of a problem, or is it just a normal bump in the road? I'm sure it CAN BE indicative of a problem, but is it always? After gaining yesterday and today, I found myself being hypercritical of everything I put in my mouth. Yesterday I was counting calories like it was my job, leaving me horrified when I saw I was at 1,500. That sounds like a lot, but I've been following the nutrition guidelines and losing weight like a champ until now. Today I tried to eat less, but I spent the whole day preoccupied by food and seriously hungry. Not head hungry. Actual, physical hunger. Then I would eat something, which meant I ate more times than I normally do today, and probably didn't change my calorie intake much at all. * sob * Thoughts??

    Ricotta and sauce?

Don't try 1/2 cup at only 11 days out. That Ricotta Bake is wonderful but it is very filling. Start with 1/3 cup max.
  9. same date, and 11 days later I actually gained 1 lb. I'm sure it's normal. I'm going to increase my calorie intake and start exercising this week. I'm sure that will trigger more loss
  10. I agree with other posters that you should quit smoking immediately. Not only is smoking going to increase your risk of having the complications mentioned, but it is going to hinder your body's ability to heal quickly and correctly. I would also start walking at least 30 minutes per day now, and drinking tons of water. You want to build up lung capacity, and start getting into shape. I was already working out 6-8X per week before surgery, and everything was super easy for me. I could have returned to work after 2 days. I smoked for 10 years, and I understand how stress makes you grab for that cigarette. Don't do it though. You are doing this for your health, so why not make a complete change starting tomorrow? You can do this, and will be better off for it. Good luck to you.
  11. Same for me as above poster. Mine was gradual. I will be 5 months next week and I feel like I can eat more than I could a month ago. I suspect in another month you will see a difference.

How do you end a stall?

stalls are common. I just stayed the course and they eventually broke. I don't want to be critical of your 1500-cal-a-day routine because I obviously am not familiar with your particular situation, but I eat that many calories now - two years into maintenance. I don't think I went over 1000 until I was around a year post-op.

    Day 2 of restriction!

I am two weeks out from surgery and I have been unbelievably hungry. When I went for my check up yesterday the surgeon decided to go ahead and try and give me a 4cc fill. It could all be in my head but I think there is a definite difference. I had half of a cheese enchilada for lunch with a couple of bites (small ones) of rice and beans and I felt so full...almost as though I had eaten a giant meal instead of only a little more than I am supposed to. It felt very different from the last week of being completely starving and never feeling full.

    day 3 blues

day two for me....pain meds almost gone...haven't slept well, haven't yet showered and I too am afraid to do much. Just trying to turn in bed is painful enough to make me nervous about 'undoing' something inside. I had a head cold going into surgery, so I'm still fighting that trying to cough hard though it hurts in attempt to keep my lungs clear. I am really looking forward to having this all at least two weeks behind me, I really loath feeling so incapable and 'hospitalily'

    day 3 blues

I think I'm just really uncomfortable with having to move slow and deliberate and the added discomfort of the bloat, gas and pressure on my diaphragm causing pain in my shoulders. I know this will pass (pardon the pun) and by next week I should be doing very well. Anxious!! I am too getting burned out fast on the protein shakes and yogurt....I think I'm a bit hungry!
  16. search this forum for "3 weeks stall" posts first. You are in good company
  17. I completely understand. I am 8 weeks out and only 27lbs down post op. I got on the scale the other day and had gained two pounds...seriously! I'm so frustrated. I'm working out and eating right..what the heck!

    Heartburn

Sleeved 5/3/18. Heartburn was my biggest problem after surgery. It really scared me. My gastroenterologist told me to take two PPI's a day, the second 30 minutes before dinner. He also told me Gaviscon works well with sleevers. He's right. The Gaviscon got me through the first couple of days while taking two Pantoprazole (Protonix) a day. I took two a day for about a month, maybe 5 weeks. Still taking one a day to be on the safe side. This solved my problem. I hope this helps!
  19. I'm only 2 months out myself so can't speak from experience, but I want to throw the "it could be muscle gain" hat into the ring. You said yourself that you are doing a lot more walking and so maybe your calves are building up. Also I know you said you weigh yourself daily but I cannot stress enough how bad that is to do. Once a week is plenty, just make it the same time of day (should be first thing before you consume breakfast), and same clothing ideally. There will be single days in anyone's life no matter the circumstances where they weigh a little bit more than the day before, you need to not focus on it. It'll drive you crazy otherwise, I'm sure it's nothing. Sent from my HTC 10 using BariatricPal mobile app

  21. 6 more weeks until the 2nd fill... hope that one makes a difference! Also... I don't remember who posted it, but I made the turkey taco Soup and it's friggin fantastic! I literally eat it EVERY DAY for lunch, and a lot of days for dinner. So easy, so delicious. You should give it a try!!! Not my recipe... I got it from a post on this forum 1 lb ground turkey, browned with 1/2 chopped onion and 1/2 c chopped green pepper (I just got frozen... easy!) Add to crock pot with : -2 cans pinto Beans (drained) -1 can black beans (drained) -1 cup frozen corn (you can leave out if you're worried about the carbs but it's not very much corn in the whole pot) -2 cans of Rotel tomatoes (they're diced with green chilis... the Rotel are actually better than the delmonte diced with chilis if you can get them) -1 package of taco seasoning -1 package of ranch dressing mix. -I only added about 2 cups of Water and 2 cubes of beef bouillon for flavor... but if you want it soupy add more water I put a spoonful of fat free sour cream in my bowl of soup and it's fantastic... even my picky family loves it. and EASY!!!!

    Fresh juicing info requested please

I was not allowed to consume fresh juice until six weeks out. I juice frequently and it's a FANTASTIC way to get all of those wonderful micronutrients from the veggies. The only thing is that I just have to be careful of how much fruit I'm using. I try to stick with kale or other greens, cucumbers, lemons, ginger, celery and just enough apple or orange to make it palatable. And I do enjoy an occasional carrot-apple juice when I'm not trying to be all low carb. I juiced right up until my surgery and I had a fantastic recovery with very little inflammation of my sleeve.. my incision sites healed so quickly I was discharged from the hospital with only one Band-Aid. I don't know, but I think the juicing really helped make my body ready for surgery.
  23. I hate reading these stories. I so feel for you. I'm so excited about my journey and I would be crushed if something similar happened to me. I want this so badly and for me it's the only way I'll ever be thin again. And thin or "not fat" is health for me. Somehow you have to get back up on that horse and ride it again. Think about your health, your family, your partner. It's just another hill for you to climb but if you did it once, you can do it again right? Keep in touch with the Dr's nutritionist. For me, she was the difference between failure and success just 3 months ago. Be honest with her/him and spill your guts about what you eat and how you eat. Something went wrong, not saying it was you, but don't let it be you! tmf

    Citric Question

I'm 4 weeks and bought the outlast mango fruit bars the other day. They felt good going down and they're low calorie.
  25. OK, so I am 3 weeks post op and I think I just experienced my first episode of pain following eating too fast? Or maybe not chewing enough? I had about 1 oz of very soft turkey, which I have been tolerating fine, but I think I wasn't focused enough on my 25-35 chews and going slow. Ouch! I got a lot of pressure and tightness and over-salivating and general discomfort which passed after approximately 20+ minutes. OK - I get it! Good reminder, sleeve!! You are in charge right now, not me!
