  1. The first few months I was banded, my TOM threw me for a loop, but then I got used to it and now I know what to expect. the day before and the first day of my period, I can't eat a thing. everything nauseates the heck out of me....then, on the 2nd and 3rd day of my period, I am like i was pre-banding. i can eat and eat and eat. nothing fills me up, i crave everything. by the 4th day (usually the last day) i get back to normal. The 2nd and 3rd day of my period I usually reserve for my wine drinking and copious amounts of chocolate eating it all evens out and i actually don't gain any weight during that time. probably the 2 days of not eating even out the 2 days of non-stop eating. i dunno, but that's what happens to me.
  2. YES!!! I think that is a big milestone. When you think about "weight limits" often times 250 is quite the barrier. Most rides, waterslides, etc. will post a weight limit warning "no one over 250", etc. So yes, you need to celebrate that you are below the 250 mark!! Woo hoo!

    HAIRLOSS NIGHTMARE

In addition to biotin and other nutrients, iron is a must. I knew this from another time I lost weight. Surgeon suggested starting this immediately both for hair and for energy level. I notice that I am getting a bit more tired than usual. I am 4 months out.
  4. Hi there, I was banded Dec 13, 2011 at 225 lbs, I quickly hit 175 on August 1, 2012. I then slowed down weight loss wise, it took me another year to get to 160. It was a very easy surgery and recovery. I just followed my Drs rules about protein, water and exercise, and so far I have'nt had any problems. I love my band !!! As far as my average daily diet ? I can eat 90 % of what I ate before, I eat fairly healthy, mostly home cooking. We eat out maybe 1-2 x a month. So, here goes.........6:30 am - hot tea, 8am Belvita breakfast biscuts (4 in a pkg) and a piece or 2 of turkey jerky. 10 am Swiss Miss ( made with water), & 4 wheat thins w/ PB. Lunch- usually fish, chicken, or small piece of meat, with fruit or raw veggies, Or today spinach salad with chicken , strawberries, tiny amt of cheese and almonds. 4pm -snack , small fruit or cookie (sigh.....my sweet tooth attack), 6 pm same as dinner. Very easy, no weird foods etc. Hope this helps !! Im very glad I was banded, im healthy and happy again !! Good luck !!
  5. Im not a march 07er but you can do it Tammy! Its not such a big deal gor three months, i had almost nine unfilled and it wa wearing thin by then, and granted, i had chemotherapy to help me keep my weight in check, lol, bit I really njoyed big salads and crunchy apples and wholegrain bread rolls, sty away from the crap and fill up on those healthy foods that as bandsters w can have touble eating and you will be abolutely fine for three months. And if course, exercise!

    You may find this gross

Oh yeah, macadamias are killer calories. I gained eleven pounds on my honeymoon eating a can of those suckers every day in Hawaii. But almonds, pecans..... Yum.

    Starting the journey

Thank you Shoelace and Frustr8 for your feedback. I will definitely be a frequent flyer to this site for the support and to see how everyone is doing in their journeys. I got a little worried the other day when I was seeing people talk about the cost of the surgery. So I called the financial people at my doctors office to check this out and was pleased to find out my cost will not be that bad. One less thing to worry about. It just amazes me how this surgery can change a persons life so drastically. This may sound a little selfish but I can't wait to go clothes shopping when I reach my goal weight. How clothes may actually fit right. Be able to find my size. Frustr8, I like that some of you call it you REbirthday. I will remember that and tell my family this. Will be posting my journey and looking forward to others that I can share

    Phentermine

I had similar experiences as others in this thread. Totally worked for me, but only for about 30 pounds. Every time I stopped using it, I gained it back. Tried a few times and it eventually stopped working. I agree it's basically speed, but I loved it though because I was already on depression meds so I got all the good stuff and none of the bad stuff (except cotton mouth, which is where I learned to chug water!).

    Weight Loss

Agree 100% with this post. Everyone's body is different; age, start-weight, etc are all factors. People put start weight, lost weight stats etc and I never knew how to calculate that my first month post-op. My start weight was much, much higher then yours and I lost before the surgery, had complications with massive swelling, gained 13 lbs from the surgery, nothing but a couple lbs the week after (miserable!) the 3 weeks out started losing like close to 20 lbs in just a week (the swelling went down completely and lost the surgery weight I had gained). I've lost very quickly since then but other conditions affect that as well. Also, inches count! Now, at 4 months out with a new job this last month that is VERY physical labor in a factory have contributed to lbs not going down but my pants are falling and inches are going down. You can't go bad with this really. Just give it time and be patient honestly-you'll be feeling good in no time and feeling the weight loss more as you heal and get into a more normal way of life.
  10. Congrats and thanks so much for sharing. Our height and surgery weight are about the same. It's so helpful to see what I might look like at a healthy, normal BMI. I can't wait! Lynda
  11. AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!! You are absolutely gorgeous!! (Even before weight loss).. Now you're a healthier gorgeous!!!! Congrats!!!
  12. I keep reading how everyone is loving their sleeve but so far I'm not. I will only say that I am only a week and a 1/2 out from surgery and still on full liquids. My weight loss has slowed down to a snail crawl...I have gone from losing a pound a day to .6 ounces to .4 ounces and now .2 ounces, and I'm not even 2 weeks in yet....smh...I know I shouldn't be discouraged but it's hard. I get in 75-85 grams of protein a day plus a minimum of 48 ounces of water. I am walking between 8,5000-10,000 steps a day. I am concerned that when I move on to purées it will completely stop and it's too soon to be stalling. It's a little disheartening considering I just cut 80% of my stomach out. I probably could have made just as much progress on weight watchers.

So far, not loving my sleeve

You are having the " WTF did I just do" moment that a lot of people go through. You have to look at the long term. The weight didn't appear over night and it isn't going away over night either. It will take time for the body to adjust to the major surgery you just had. First thing is to stop weighing every day...just stop that! It doesn't do you any good what so ever to measure in .5 increments. Second, stay on your plan. It will work, you just have to have the patience and the mind set that over the long run, you will be successful. It is easy to get discouraged, I have been there. I see people that have lost more weight than me that was sleeved after me. I follow my eating plan and I work out, I track everything like a crazy, but I got through stalls and have lost really slowly. But you know what, that's fine, it isn't more weight coming on, it is weight that is going off, never to return. This isn't going to be a quick fix, but more of a permanent solution, if you do things correctly. Hang in there!
  14. If you're going to snack, make it something healthy......also you will find eating close to bedtime will result in some unwanted side effects..... For myself, and some other people I know, it all comes down to the fact that since being banded, we lost weight because we eat less than we used to.... I do not diet, count calories, etc.....been there done that...... In my case, because of the band, I eat about 1/3 of what I used to eat. (sometime less) ..and it is not something I have to struggle with or work at..it's just how the band works........so it is not so much what times of the day I eat, it is the fact that on a given 24hr period, I eat only 1/3 of what I used to.... then I exercise to work a lot of that off also..... I am unable to eat anything solid early in the morning, and because of adverse side effects I am cautious not to eat close to bedtime time.... So yes, I can snack at anytime...IF I was hungry.........but add it all up and it does not make much difference....
  15. Hello August All Stars 08, We are approaching our third band-aversary in three months. I'm getting reflective and wanted to reach out to the support group that helped us get through the most difficult period, our first year. I am guilty of not keeping our site active and supporting each other. My band journey is still very positive. I had complications with my port cord about 6 months ago and needed to have the cord repaired in a 30 minute procedure. I noticed a lot less restriction. The nurse couldn't get any fluid out of my band. The doctor did a fluoroscope and saw the cord was damaged with no explanation how it happened. I gained about 12 pounds before the port was repaired. I am back on track with decent restriction. 30 minutes every day on the treadmill. I am down about 60 lbs total and working to ad to that number. I still love my band and would do it again without question. On a personal note, I turned 51, my dear wife survived a cancer scare last year, my oldest son graduated college last week. I wish everyone good health and continued success with your band journey. Sincerely, Gary B

    2 months out

I don’t count calories. Because with my intake there’s no way I can eat enough to make me gain. I strive for no less than 60G Protein per day. I try to keep my sugar intake under 30g which I usually fall way under.

    Books

This is of little help to you now, but I want to write that book. It's on my plan for 2009 when I get done with my MBA and lose all this weight! Sorry I can't help you out.
  18. It's not a race, it's a marathon. Keep doing what you're doing. Congrats on your weight loss.

    Calories?

I'm the weeks out and in only getting between 300-400 calories a day also. Getting all my protein and liquid in. I lost 10 lbs the first week and unfortunately nothing since. Hopefully things well pick up again soon. Getting a little frustrated seeing people dropping weight like crazy and I'm stuck already. Sent from my SM-S903VL using the BariatricPal App I'm the weeks out and in only getting between 300-400 calories a day also. Getting all my protein and liquid in. 20. Soooo I am calling tomorrow to see if I am approved (which I am 99% sure I am) and hopefully schedule my surgery!! I am a teacher and am needing it done during Christmas break AMYWAYS, I'm just totally freaking excited and cannot wait to lose this weight and hopefully feel way less pain in my every day life.
  21. Recycled, I am not an obsessive person, I do not weigh myself several times a day. I do not know why you would say that?! I weigh once a week because I was told too by my bariatric team, I was originally only going to measure myself. So I was only asking because I am gaining weight and as I said I was not worried about losing massive weight I was only concerned about the weight gain part of it.
  22. @ Donna ,Good to hear from you besides of gaining , how have you been other health wise & hope it's not to much of a gain on weight .

    Newly sleeved. Slow loss

Darling, don't get discouraged. I too went from band to sleeve and I'm having a hard time not comparing my first weight loss to my current weight loss. I lost 100lbs in six months with the band. I lost the first week or two with the sleeve and immediately hit a stall. I've started exercising again and I'm seeing some slight movement on the scale but nothing like when I was banded. Even though my weight isn't falling off like before, I can see a difference in how clothes are fitting. So keep your chin up and make adjustments. You might even consider doing measurements because maybe you're toning more but not moving the scale. Also, are you taking your Vitamins? My weight started to go down more when I started taking my vitamins regularly as well. Good luck!

    Baby Food

I'm surprised! I was allowed only chicken broth and sf jello for week one. I could include smooth yogurt (no fruit bits) and cottage cheese in week two. That was all, till week 3 anyway! I am 6 years out. I've lost 190 lbs., most all of it within first 21/2 years. My ideal is 10 lbs less than I am now, but I have kept off the weight and that 10lbs just keeps me on my toes!
