  1. Interesting. All I know is that Since about 2 months past my surgery I stopped being so dang hot all the time and sweating like crazy. Summer was coming to a close so I wasn't really sure if it was my imagination or real and didn't have time to really test it out. Guess I'll know for sure this Summer. LOL But doing things around the house that normally made me hot and sweat regardless of the time of year like cooking, cleaning, carrying anything of weight, etc. would have me drenched in sweat and would take me forever to cool down from. Now, NOPE! Doesn't happen any longer. We also always sleep with two fans on all year long and since surgery I find myself cold doing that and have gone from sleeping in underwear only to sleeping in fuzzy long pants and long sleeve shirts. LOL NOT complaining though cause I can always do things to easily get warm but it was next to impossible to cool down when I was always hot. Having said all that, my own coldness hasn't stopped since it started even though I've been stalled since Oct 25th. Well, I should say I was stalled since then, then I contacted my nutritionist in December some time and made some adjustments and then the scale finally moved again and I have since lost an additional 4-5 lbs but yeah, not sure that logic/theory applies to me as my stall seems to be constant (not actually losing weight or inches) and yet I remain cold all the time. I just finished converting a good size shed, that was sitting empty doing nothing, into a gym. That had occupied all of my time and energy all of January and exercise went to the wayside. So starting Monday I plan on getting back on track with my exercise and HOPEFULLY then the weight will start dropping regularly again.
  2. trial and error. You'll know when something doesn't agree with you. You'll most likely be heading for the bathroom.... Fortunately, you'll figure it out pretty quickly, so these kinds of incidents are usually only common during the early weeks....

    Successful post op gastric bypass

It's a short surgery, so most of us don't have catheters. I didn't have one. I did have one when I had plastic surgery (which was a much longer surgery), but they don't place those until you're under. You likely won't even have one with this surgery, though. also, being chronically ill after bypass is extremely rare. and pain - although some people deal with pain, the vast majority of us have little to no pain with these surgeries. Even if you do, they'll send you home with pain meds. I never took any of mine (no pain here), but if you do, just keep on top of the meds and it should really keep it manageable. Should only last the first two or three days tops. But again, most of us have little to no pain with these surgeries. just try to relax. I'm sure everything will go fine. I'm almost seven years out and would do this again in a heartbeat. Should have done it years ago.

    Waiting for a surgery date

I had to wait a long time after I jumped through all the hoops at my center, like three months, and it wasn't really due to COVID. The office was really disorganized and would never call me back. Most places are not that disorganized. I'm sorry insurance won't cover your surgery.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

We're getting close!! I start my pre-op appointments next week. I have my pre-op physical with my GP on Tuesday and blood work Thursday. No pre-op liver shrinking diet for me. I'm close to "Healthy" weight and my surgical team decided it wasn't necessary for me. I'm soooo very ready to get this GERD out of my life for good! Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Weight gain

Stalls are plateaus but they don't make you gain weight. Over what period have time have you gained this weight? If it's over a month, that's concerning, if it's over a year it's just excess calories. I searched online about weight gain and birth control pills and read: Weight gain is a common birth control pill side effect. Certain oral contraceptives are more likely than others to increase the pounds. Fortunately, the weight gain is often due to temporary water retention and will go away in a few months. Water retention is a typical symptom of premenstrual syndrome that is caused by fluctuating hormone levels. You’ve probably noticed it before—about a week or two before your period starts you start to feel bloated and your clothes are a little too tight. Estrogen-containing birth control pills have the same effect. The most widely used type of birth control pill contains two types of synthetic female hormones—estrogen and progestin—that prevent your body from releasing an egg. It is the estrogen part of the pill that can cause you to retain water, which may make you feel like you’ve gained weight. Water retention usually passes after you’ve been taking the pill for a few months.

    Successful post op gastric bypass

I was 53 when I had mine. My daughter was 22. Neither of us have any regrates! I have had a lot of surgeries for various things - I wasn't nervous at all about the surgery. My daughter has had 5 surgeries (4 for the same thing) - she wasn't nervous at all either. I'm not sure if the gas pain that people talk about is gas in their abdomen as general pain or the gas/discomfort that is felt in the left shoulder after any abdominal surgery. I have always had horrendous pain in my left shoulder after ANY abdominal surgery. It lasts for 2-3 weeks (but that's just me - because of scoliosis by torso is unique - I had my scoliosis corrected when I was 48 - DON'T WAIT THAT LONG!). My daughter had no troubles at all even though she also has scoliosis (she had hers corrected when she was 15 & has had 3 other surgeries because of the 1st one). But I can tell you our bodies feel so much better since getting all of the weight off because of weight loss surgery! I have lost over 70 (I am very happy with this weight & I feel great!). My daughter has lost over 150 & she is more active than she ever was before! Stick to your docs plan and take your vitamins! Just wear home whatever you wore to the hospital. No need to take an extra set of clothes. Your toothbrush, toothpaste, Biotin mouthwash is a great idea (I like the Walmart brand), phone charger & ChapStick & PJ's (so you don't have to wear the hospital gown once you start moving around). Good vibes & happy thoughts as you drift off to sleep in a few days! I always sing "I Wanna be Sedated" by the Ramones as I am wheeled to the OR.

    Weight gain

I have gained about 10lbs and I haven’t been doing anything different. I eat healthy and walk 2 miles a day. My PCP did change me to a birth control pill. Could that be causing weight gain? Or and I on a stall?
  9. Unfortunately, the only way to find out if your tummy will like a food is to try it & see what happens. Food one person can’t eat others easily eat. The temporary changes to your senses of taste &/or smell also can turn you off certain foods. I liked to think of my tummy as a contrary, tantrum throwing 2yr old. One day everything is fine but the next you eat the same thing & your tummy throws a tantrum. Best advice is to add new foods slowly & don’t give up. If your tummy says no today try again next week. Don’t be too concerned by a growling, whining, noisy tummy. I asked my surgeon’s colleague about it $0& she said it’s just your digestive system doing what it’s supposed to: digest what your eating. Personally my tummy is noisier if I eat dairy, eat & drink to closely together or eat/drink a little too quickly. It also does it if I rest my iPad on my chest when reading at night - pressure on my tummy I think. I experience it every day - it’s actually squelching now! 😁

    Surgeon's advice after vomiting

I don't think I've given anyone reason to believe I am not fully aware of what the 2-week pre-op phase is intended for. This can be achieved by any calorie deficit, does not require a liquid diet, and you need only to be in immediate caloric deficit for a short time for the liver to shrink. Like I said, great that it worked for you. I have absolutely no motivation not to lift you up. But ceteris paribus, fewer people will get life-saving bariatric surgery if put on a months-long diet to qualify. The surgery is designed to help that diet work. We don't require ACL patients to go to physio 3x week for six months to qualify for ACL replacement.
  11. Hi. I’m 2 weeks post op and was wondering if anyone has had avocado this early after surgery?
  12. Date of Surgery 12/27/21 The plan was to have band removed and sleeve done on the same day, what was not planned was the removal of 6 inches of intestines because of blockage due to scar tissue from previous surgery, was inpatient for 5 days. Week 1 at home was a struggle with gas and just being overall uncomfortable, Week 2 a little better but still not comfortable probably to be expected I know right Week 3: small celebration something close to non liquid food, which my body rejected so there went that joy Week 4: body accepting non liquid food but oh does it make me pay for it (stabbing paid at to of abdomen, explosive bowel movements Week 5: Nausea, vomiting or some form of vomiting since its more motion but nothing coming up, so it is extremely painful and my stomach is sore to the touch Week 6: Repeat week 5 Does anyone know what can be done to help with the stabbing feeling following eating and sometimes drinking it is crippling
  13. Hello! I'm 6 week post op. I eat and drink most things I did before surgery and have never had a major problem. I was told to wait a couple months before I eat carrots and lettuce. I hiccup when I get too full as well. I have never "dumped". I usually can only eat 1/2 cup of food. Good luck to you.

    My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

Oh man, those initial stalls are no joke. I think so many years (decades) of having a stall mean that our weight loss efforts were failing yet again has made us all super paranoid about them. The good news is that especially this early in the game, a stall is temporary and doesn’t really mean much. Just focus on the day-to-day and you’ll get there! Post op is just a short period of time in your journey, you’ll be in onederland before you know it!

    Some questions

I agree with others. The sleeve is just a tool. If you eat bad you will gain it back. I just lost my grandma and within three weeks of eating slightly bad I gained FOUR pounds that I have to lose again. That’s how easy it would be to gain it over a pound a week and I wasn’t even eating As much as my always been skinny family members. Not trying to be negative just saying that the sleeve doesn’t do all the work for you. It is very easy to choose to eat around it. That being said, it is much easier to make the healthy choice while the hunger hormone is gone (that is fine for MOST people but not all immediately post op for several months). So me for example in the past would’ve thrown up my hands and kept on gaining until I gained it all back but this time I have nipped it in the bud at four pounds and I am working on losing them again plus the 9 more pounds I have to lose to reach goal.
  16. To follow up on this topic, I had my EGD today and the surgeon said he saw about a 3cm hiatal hernia. He went ahead and scheduled me for hernia repair and revision to RNY next week. I'm looking forward to resolving the hernia issues and also the GERD.
  17. Hello! Hope everyone is doing well I'm new here so sorry if this is the wrong place. I'm 4 weeks post op, and my surgeon and nutritionist have had me on soft foods for a week and said that I'm cleared to start testing more foods whenever I feel comfortable. I've been trying things like scrambled eggs (as they didn't sit well in my throat in the early soft food stage) and chewing boiled vegetables up thoroughly. The thing I'm having difficulty with is that I'm not sure how to tell when things don't agree with me? My "full" is the tenseness in my sternum area, and I get the hiccups. I stop at that point. Sometimes my stomach starts making weird noises...is that when things aren't right for me yet? Sorry, I know it's probably a super basic question but I'd love to hear how you guys knew when things weren't right for you I don't see my surgeon much (next app in 3 months) and I have so much anxiety around just calling them for something basic. I know what dumping is but I haven't done that yet so I think I'm tracking pretty well? Any advice you can give from experiences is appreciated! Thanks! Soph

    Surgeon's advice after vomiting

I didn't have a 2 week liquid only diet. I did change my eating habits for 7 months prior to surgery and lost 50 lbs, which means I don't have to lose it now.
  19. I had a RYGB in 2005 and had pretty much kept the weight off until this past Pandemic/COVID19. I went from 160lbs to 217lbs, with constant GERD, heartburn and a fistula. I decided to get a limb lengthening done since the gastric pouch/stomach had not changed in size at all per Dr. Proctor. On January 1st, 2022, I stopped drinking wine and went into the 2 shakes daily (modified diet) then on the week prior to surgery changed to 3 shakes daily. On the day of surgery January 19th, I weighed 209. Today, I am 3 weeks post-op and weigh 200lbs. Spoke with the doctors office and was told that she (PA) has noticed that weight loss with the limb lengthening is slower and not the same with the regular RYGB, Sleeve, Lap-band. Has anyone underwent the Limb lengthening procedure?

Over 2 mo po and stalled

I lost such a lot of weight really quickly because of vomiting and my calorie intake was very low. About 200 to 300 cals a day. I couldnt make any protein or water goals. So I had a 5 week stall. Its frustrating. Now I am eating more calories and much more protein and reach my water quota, things are moving downwards again.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Hello everyone. My VSG was on 11/15/21. I have lost a total of 51 lbs. I am also going through a stall at this time. I haven't lost anything in the last 2 weeks. Its a little frustrating but at the same time I am amazed at how I've lost these 51 lbs. and need to keep going. I do not notice a difference when I see myself in the mirror but I have noticed my clothes fitting better and a little loose. No one has said anything about me looking thinner but it has been cold here and I've had to wear hoodies or a coat. I know I've lost lbs. and my doctor says I am doing well. I just don't see the progress in the mirror.

Over 2 mo po and stalled

That is a long stall but I have seen others on here that have had them. If you are measuring and logging everything it can’t hurt to check in with your nutritionist and see if they can see something you are missing but if you are following plan the stall will break and most likely when it does you will drop a few pounds right away.
  23. They inflate you with air during surgery, and the 'gas pain' should probably be divided into two: - The immediate pain (immediately after until 12h) - The lingering pain (12h to 7 days) I was probably not well-deflated and under-medicated coming out of surgery; I was in a ton of pain, but once I got up and moved around (and trust me, that was hard on a 9.8 on a 10 pain scale), it helped a lot. It was two-three rough hours. The lingering gas was annoying, but not really painful, for me. I'm not saying this to deter you, I'm saying if you're one of the people who experience pain immediately after, ask for more pain meds right away and get up as soon as you can. It helps! Reported for surgery at noon on Thursday, surgery at 1.30pm, out by 8am Friday morning.

Over 2 mo po and stalled

Unfortunately stalls are a reality. If your stall lasts more than 3 weeks, it's time to revisit your portion sizes, protein intake, and monitoring everything you put into your mouth. If you still are stalled after 5 weeks and you're doing everything to the letter, you should consult the nutritionist at your surgeon's office.
  25. Thank you kindly for all the information and your openness. I’ve re-read your posts several times over the past few weeks, as it’s such an important decision to make, and am scheduled for a MGB on February 24th. Ready for a new start!
