    July 23rd is the day!

It is a desk job, I'm a dispatcher but I did take 2 weeks off from my 2nd job at Chili's.

    age appropriate?

My personal style is classic. But I shop for clothes everywhere from Neiman Marcus to Walmart. Whether the label is St. John or St. John's Bay, if it's a good value because it's on sale and/or can be paired with multiple pieces, it's a possible purchase. Here are some things I've learned over the years: 1. All the experts advise that, after you're completely dressed, look in the mirror and consider removing at least one piece of jewelry or one accessory. 2. Ask your teenage daughter or niece what kinds of clothes women your age should not be wearing. Even the nice ones will be brutally honest. 3. Buy most of your best wardrobe pieces in a neutral palette, e.g, white, beige/tan/camel, black, navy, grey. 4. Avoid too many color / pattern combinations. For me, this means designing outfits that have pieces mostly in the same color, although not necessarily in the same color saturations. 5. If you want a big color burst, e.g., an orange jacket or an orange purse or an orange scarf, limit yourself to a single burst, not all three at the same time. 6. Try not to be matchy-matchy. Yesterday, I went shopping in $30 jeans, $300 boots, a Pendleton cotton turtleneck, an $80 jacket, and an Hermes scarf. 7. Watch and notice what others are wearing and what you think works on others (and what doesn't work). For those of us who aren't natural stylists, mimicry is a useful skill. 8. Give yourself permission to experiment and also to make mistakes. After all, that's how we learn. 9. Finally, at forty you don't exactly have one foot in the grave yet.

    Finally Have a Date

Congrats. I thought I was going to go insane after waiting three months. You have mighty stamina. I am soooo happy for you.

    Concerned

I've been blogging my entire experience (just banded a few weeks ago). The entire experience has been amazing. You can read all about it via my slightly silly (but totally honest) blog: Lise The Loser’s Weblog

    Sodium?

Hey there....only 7 days out and looking at my food intake. I'm getting about 2500mg of sodium a day, almost entirely from the soups I enjoy (blech to the low sodium!). This is around the rda...but certainly seems high compared to my caloric intake of about 400 calories a day. I'd anticipate it getting better when I move to mashies in about 2 weeks but don't want to slow weight loss in the meantime. Thoughts?

    6/5 sleeve experience

I wanted to check in and post my experience. I was miserable during the pre-op phase diet, I cheated with last meals almost once a day until the 3 day water fast which I adhered to. The last 3 days were honestly not that bad, just uncomfortable because of being hungry. My angelic wife was supportive and did the pre-op diet with me :). The surgical procedure was fast, I struggled with some moderate pain, gas pain from the CO2 belly inflate. I am anti narcotic and needed it for a long drive home (9 hrs), I don’t recommend that! That said I used the oxy suspension to sleep for the first 2 days and it will be in the trash this week. I am type 2 diabetic, I lost 2 meds post surgery and now I am only on metformin, Prilosec, vitamins and Prozac. The after surgical effects are what you would expect: needed some time to pee normally, it took some days to pass gas but now it’s flowing better (taking a stool softener), hurts to sit up and lay flat, driving is a chore, mild stomach cramping, and skin pain at the 4 surgical sites (mainly the 15cm one). I have met the water goals post surgery and pushed it once and almost puked. I don’t recommend that, I am tolerating broth, clear protein drinks, sugar free jello we’ll just struggling with my behavioral issues to want to eat crap food. I do not feel hungry most of the time, unless food commercials are on TV or I walk in a store. I have lost a tremendous amount of weight so far (around 12 lbs so far), and suspect I will be in the 230’s tomorrow. I exercised prior to the surgery by doing P90X to build as mush muscle as I could. I think that helped a lot. I have been walking a lot also and try to get up each hour to walk around the house. My recovery has been very fast, each day it seems like it’s 50% better, I can sleep on my side now with a bit of left shoulder pain that’s is getting better. I watched my wife eat last night, and I was surprised that it did not bother me. Here are some neat things I think about: I will be a normal weight again (185), it will be nice to fly in a small seat, maybe I can get off all my meds, I will not be pre-judged in job situations for being morbidly obese, I might live as long as my wife to enjoy our life together, no 3 xl clothes, hopefully my chronic back pain will lessen.

Flat line none lost none gained!

According to Mark Sisson of Mark's Daily Apple, a fitness website bent toward primal eating (which is low carbs like our plans), a stall can be broken by either eating more and exercising more or eating less and exercising less.

Flat line none lost none gained!

I'm only 3 months out so forgive me all but my NUT told me to maintain cause its your body trying to adjust to the weightloss and that it will kick start again. I've followed this and it does. I was nervous when I hit a 2 week stall but I started dropping weight again. I'm sure everyone is different so find what works for you.

    Lap band slip

Just found out today that my band has slipped for the second time. In one week, a decision will be made as to what to do. Revision, gastric bypass after band removal or sleeve after band removal. Not sure what the revision entails yet. Not happy to have come this far (more than 3 years) to have this happen. In fact, I am pretty heart broken right now. Any advice anyone?

    Am i exercising too much?

I would suggest upping your calories. Preband I was eating 1200 cal per day and was losing. Then suddenly it stopped. I increased to like 1500 for a week and lost weight. I think I settled at 1400 calories, but everyone is different. You should try gradually increasing your calories or talk to Ur doc. Maybe?

Forgot what to expect from a fill

This will be two years after my band for the gallbladder. I just started feeling normal the past couple of days. Tomorrow will be a week out. I'm anticipating a similar outcome after getting my fill again. It will definitely be like re-learning everything. Even though I've been through it, you never know if you'll be able to tolerate the same foods all over again. It's back to experimenting all over again! Just take it easy for now. Try mushies and soft foods for a while after you transition from liquids. You might have to feel out solids and introduce them slowly. Try you go-to foods first and eat slow! DOING GREAT! Not even 2 weeks out and I'm down 13 lbs. LOVE IT and FEEL GREAT!
  13. Now my hubby and I flew from Portland, Oregon to Juarez Mexico. We stayed 1 extra night before his surgery because we wanted to make sure everything went smoothly. After he had the Sleeve done he was released the very next day but we stayed an extra night in the motel just to be sure. Now the Airport was huge and going thru Customs on the way there was no big deal, but after was a different story. Luckily we had a wheelchair that I requested before we were ever dropped off at the Airport. It was a good thing because you are kind of weak afterwards but as far as pain NOPE!! He could have dne it all by himself. I had my RNY 2 hours from where we live. The Dr has his out of towners stay a week in the Motel before he releases you. I couldn't have done it all by myself because I was real weak. I walked everyday 2 to 3 times. Just to try to gain my strength back. But that is the difference in the surgery's. He wasn't as weak as I was. I would really prefer if it was me that I had someone with me. You are a BRAVE PERSON> I am such a chicken. LOL GOOD LUCK
  14. Hello! I am scheduled for VSG surgery on December 23...right nefore Christmas. I'm just curious to hear about other people that were sleeved, or otherwise, right before a holiday. I planned it for that day so I could have the most amount of time to recuperate over the holiday week off from work (I'm a speech therapist, aka SLP, and I work with preschool children, but I am not required to lift them or take care of any diapering needs-I hope I'll be ok). I'm not so worried about the lack of eating, although that will be tough...I just don't want to have to stay a 2nd night and miss out on Christmas eve festivities and/or be a burden to my family. Stalled

I was stalled for almost a month this month. Just started losing again Friday. Keep to the plan no matter how frustrated you become because it will pay off in the end. Also I lost 4 inches during that time so maybe measure yourself. That kept me motivated and going. Good luck!!
  16. I am about 8 weeks out post op. I am suppose to be getting 90 grams of Protein in a day. I am lucky if I get to 70 grams. I just don't feel like eating. The shakes gross me out. I have lost 54 lbs since surgery but the doctor says I would lose faster if I get my protein goal. Just frustrated.

    Left Rib Pain

I'm a bit over two weeks post op and I get that too. I was wondering as well - I think I may be eating too much at once, perhaps? A couple times for sure it was gas, other times I think it's me eating too much. Ah, this is such a learning process.
  18. My sister and I were both sleeved on July 14. We are indeed happy with our decision to live a happier, healthier life. Nonetheless, we are both experiencing stalls (and have been for two weeks). I know it's only been 3 weeks since the surgery, but it's still frustrating. We are beginning to incorporate more foods in our diet, so it's understandable that we sometimes second guess what we consume and/or wonder if we are doing something wrong. {My sister even joked that our sleeve was broken -- we know it's not really broken...wink wink}. My question to you, my fellow sleevers, what is/was your daily calorie intake at this stage, and moving forward. We are limiting our carb intake and getting protein wherever we can, but we also want to ensure we are consuming the correct number of calories.
  19. I just found this site and am loving it. I'm 9 years out from surgery. I just started doing weekly meal prep a few months ago and am running out of ideas. I'd love to hear what you all do for meal prep! Thanks, Val

    Twilight Zone

Okay, for the last three weeks, things have just been strange. After my last appointment, I immediately gained some weight. Which, of course, bummed me OUT. I had no restriction, and was going on willpower, which always wavers when I am depressed. So, I've been gaining and losing the same five pounds for 3 weeks. But, strangely, my afternoon meal, always comes up after just a few bites. Evening meal, I feel no restriction, and can eat more than I think I should be able to. And certainly more than I can eat at noon! Makes no sense to me. My daughter graduates from high school this Wednesday. I have been fighting the urge to go to bed and throw the covers over my head for awhile. I can't believe she is so grown up! So, my emotions have been on a rollercoaster with that. Plus I am planning a big party for her this weekend. BUSY! Anyway, I had this goal in my head when I had the surgery. I was told it was pretty unrealistic, but peole say I am kind of stubborn. :tt2: I wanted to lose fifty pounds by graduation. As the months have gone by, I worried I wouldn't be able to do it. This a.m. I stepped on the scale, only hoping to NOT have gained, and VIOLA! I am ONE pound away from meeting my goal. I have until Wednesday to lose this stinking pound!! I am reaaaally excited to do it!! I am working my backside off to do it! :smile2:
  22. Hello there. I am starting my pre-op on Tuesday. I know everyone is on different pre-op diets, but I am just curious how much weight every one lost during pre-op? I will be doing two protein shakes and a lean low carb small meal, and then clear liquids three days prior to surgery. I posted this question in post-op b/c eveyone has most likely finished this phase. Thanks!
  23. Hang in there. I've been there too. Guess what, I'd do it again! , My knees and ankles have stopped hurting. Those tinglings in my toes and fingers signaling oncoming diabetes are gone. I've turned down the pressures on my cpap. I dragged out pants and shirts I haven't worn in 2 years. And yes, everyone at work is commenting on how good I look, face is thinner, look younger, etc...I'm only 5 weeks out!!! Found your answer yet? Keep reading the forums, that's what I did. I got good answers from a lot of folks too.

    Returning to work?

Since it sounds like your job is mostly desk work, probably very good chance that you can return quicker than 2 weeks. I was "back to work" a week later since I was able to sit at my desk with my computer (that's the vast majority of my job). After surgery, I had no pain or nausea, and spent just one night in the hospital. When I left the hospital, I never did fill the prescription for the pain medication because I never needed it.
