    Hi

My starting weight was 252, surgery weight was 236, today I am 212. I will be 6 weeks on Tuesday. I dont see much movement on the scale the last week or so however I can see other changes in my body.

    Beer craving

not only is it acidic, it's carbonated. Not a good choice at less than a month out. You're still healing. Plus transfer addiction is unfortunately a real thing - some people develop issues with alcohol after bariatric surgery. So I'd be careful. we were told to wait a year after surgery to indulge - some people are told six months. Some may not have to wait as long, but 3.5 weeks is way too early.
  3. My grandma is In hospice so we are pulling shifts making sure someone is with her 24/7. I have gone ONE WEEK without tracking and I have gained TWO POUNDS!! I haven’t had anything crazy bad just a few more servings of the same foods and snacks I have been eating. I know that I should be able to lose it but wow- that was way too easy to gain.

    Beer craving

Different plans have different timelines around when to start consuming alcohol again. What does your plan say? Remember it’s always best to follow your plan. Why the craving? Is it really beer you’re craving or something else (food)? Do you really need it or are you looking for something to comfort you? Swapping one addiction/craving for another is a concern after weight loss surgery. You can’t satisfy your food craving so you look for something else and alcohol is often what people turn too. Will one beer satisfy your craving or will you want another one tomorrow? Will that beer be worth the calories & the carbs? You’re not 4 weeks out & are still healing. It’s why you’re still on a staged return to eating a broader diet of solid food. Beer is very acidic & will upset & irritate your healing tummy. These are just some things to consider before making your decision. All the best.

    Before and After Pics

Been a while since I checked in. A friend of mine said, "You know, if you do a French tuck*, you can show off those belt buckles of yours. You're slim enough now." I am not convinced this is the style for me (feels like I wasn't paying attention after pulling my pants up and accidentally buttoned them around my shirt), but damn if it didn't feel nice to actually be able to do it. So here I am, another almost 40 lbs. down, 39 to go. Three quarters of the way to goal. * French tuck - you tuck in the front but not the back. I know no French people who do this, but maybe it's named after Tan France instead of France France.

    Fatigue

We all heal & recover in our own time. Some will say I was fine after a week or two others will say a month. Me, I was a couple of months but I always seem to take longer to recover from everything even a cold. Plus it was complicated by my tendency for occasional drops in blood pressure becoming low BP all day every day. Even my head became doughy & my concentration was poor. Don’t give yourself a deadline. Take your recovery at your pace & listen to your body. Keep working at meeting your fluid & protein goals. But you won’t feel like you did before - you’ll feel so much better because of your weight loss & improving general health. Won’t it be great.

    Beer craving

I just had my surgery 3.5 weeks ago and am doing well but I just got a mean craving for a beer. Just wondering if anyones ever had a beer this early in the game (I’m too scared to try) and how it went.
  9. I’m abt 6 weeks post op as well. I’m am able to tolerate foods. Just the water. I tried the crystal like wild strawberry and was able to tolerate a full bottle of water. I’m afraid of becoming dehydrated. I’m doing okay with my protein but liquids are very hard!! I hope you get better as well.
  10. We are surgery twins!!! My sleeve was 12/22! I am actually starting body for life diet I used to body build and used that meal plan and workout so I’m doing it again. It’s high protein low fat and carbs. I know I caught myself snacking small meals at first because I just couldn’t eat much and once I went to 6 small meals a day I broke the stall. It is hard to figure out food there are some really good YouTube videos out there that helped me
  11. I am 6 weeks post op from RNY. Yes, have terrible taste in my mouth most of time. Also, my taste buds are more sensitive. I am still on liquids I have been nauseous and throwing up since surgery. I have been in hospital twice due to dehydration. Hope it gets better for you
  12. I never think abt inches. I’m down 26lbs in 4 weeks but I don’t see much of a difference in my clothing.

    Fatigue

I'm 2 week, 2 day post op. Usually when someone has a procedure done, the doctor tells you recovery is XX weeks. Well, not really this time. So..how long before you start feeling normal again. I stay tired all the time.
  14. I would say do it during the spring break. You need time to recuperate. Some folks may have it easy but sometimes you may need more time and you don't want the extra stress of school at the same time. I was in school and my term was hectic, a semester of work squeezed in 2.5 months. So I had postponed my surgery by 2 months and got it done during the break between terms. And I was so glad I did that. First week more or less you're knocked out and don't have the energy to do anything (I was on 1 week clear fluids diet post-Op). After that full fluids for 3 weeks. Fatigue and lack of energy persisted at least for 2 to 3 weeks. So I was grateful for the break time. I would recommend if you can, do it during your break time and you'll thank yourself. It a huge change for your body and also your eating and drinking habits. It takes time to gradually move over. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I am now 10 weeks post op and I have lost 27lbs since the day of my surgery. I had just one long stall of about 2 weeks post op but have lost about 2lbs a week since then. I'm so so pleased with that. I have quite a way to go but I feel like I'm into the swing of things. I do have a little alcohol every weekend but it's one or two drinks and all counted in my calorie allowance, which is around 800 per day now and 1000 at weekends. Good luck to everyone, hope it's going well for you all.

    New here, have some questions...

Thanks! Lol, you're right it has been almost 4 months.[emoji2360] Good idea, I will go back to basics and me mindful to track and see if I can break the stall. So close to one-derland I can taste it!!![emoji16] Sent from my Pixel 3a using BariatricPal mobile app

    New here, have some questions...

That's almost four months from surgery, isn't it? Your weight loss stats are very similar to mine. I lost 25lbs before surgery and 27lbs since. My first advice would be to take a week and track absolutely everything you eat. Go back to basics - protein first, then veg, then good complex carbs if you have room. No drinking fluids for at least half an hour after eating. Clear the house of junk - you sound like you know that's what's holding you back and causing the dumping. Sticking to the program works (well it has for me so far!) I hope you smash that stall in no time. 💪

    Tips to break a stall...

@AnotherGuy, great post! Stalls are super frustrating.. About losing muscle. One of my surgeon's goals is to avoid/reduce muscle loss. He says that if you are losing muscle, you need to up the protein intake, to have a 'positive Nitrogen balance'. The basic idea is if you don't get enough protein, the body breaks muscle mass. Every month he tests my body composition using an InBody scale (same one found in gyms), One month post-op I was losing weight, and he bumped my daily protein from 100 to 120.. one month later I didn't lose muscle mass (according to him ), and he bumped up my daily goal to 135g/day. This is my report from 3-4 weeks ago.

When did you start eating fruits? (Carbs content)

Congrats on the weight loss 👏🏼 My program sounds quite similar to yours - As in we can have almost anything we can tolerate including rice, pasta, bread etc. I just don't eat them much right now. May incorporate them later on. We just don't have much focus on calories. Focus is more on serving sizes and protein/fluid intake. Don't have any numbers for carbs or fat intake either. Only thing is how did you manage to eat 1200 calories post week 4? I am almost week 9 but I still can't manage to eat more than 750-850 calorie range. Either that or I need to figure out how to incorporate foods high in calories 😂 Only calorie rich food group in my diet would be cheeses I suppose. But I also don't wanna overshoot fat intake. How was your fat intake first few months?
  20. How far out are you? I used to in my 20s body build I have arthritis pretty bad now all over. I have done the body for life before - it is workout with a good plan that is pretty much what we are to eat post op anyway. 6 small meals a day with high protein low carb and low fat. I still have my original book from the early 1990s that I’ve pulled out dusted off and have been reading again lol that was seriously my Bible back then. I have a torn shoulder that needs surgery but I am going to try to work the muscles around it to see if it will support it - I may just end up giving myself a migraine for a week idk but I am going to try. My arthritis has improved greatly since loosing the 30 pounds and eating so much better and cleaner now. Good luck and thanks for your update!!!

    Potatoes 5 weeks out

Your dietician isn’t happy because you could literally die if you don’t follow the program for the first 6 to 7 weeks due to breaking your new stomach open and having food seeping into your body cavity. No offense, but this is not good advice to all of the other new surgery patients on this page. People should absolutely adhere to the medical plan their doctor puts them on and follow the diet strictly for the first six weeks.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Same here, I am averaging about 2lbs per week. If I work out less it's less than a pound. I am OK with that though as I hope this helps with some of the shrinking of excess skin as it gets filled in with muscle. Sent from my SM-G998U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Amy....my surgery was the day before yours and I have experienced the same thing in the past month or so. This past week however things have gotten moving again. I have lost 4 pounds in the past week. I actually INCREASED my calorie intake and INCREASED my walking. I have been focusing on drinking more as well. I started out at 293 and am today 208, about the same loss as you. It is also important to make sure you are counting EVERYTHING. It is too easy to leave out cheese, dressing, condiments, oil or margarine used in cooking etc. Your true calorie intake may be bigger than you know.
  24. When I had my TT I had the 360 so I had 4 drains, 2 came out at 3 weeks and the other 2 at 4 weeks. It is a pain in the butt but worth it because all that stuff that comes out would either come out your incision or make more swelling. Sounds like you are doing well. Isn't plastic surgery amazing?

    Tips to break a stall...

In addition to everything that @anotherguy said, which was an EXCELLENT post by the way, I've learned that often I have to start eating MORE to break a stall. Like for example currently I am only taking in 1,000 calories/day and probably exercising off 500 of those and my body is like "What the hell?" so the scale doesn't budge until I add calories. Shake the body up. Make the body feel secure.
