48lb down but only one dress size!
Dream4tc replied to Beachsprite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had gained 25 over the past year and 1/2 and still in the same size....thankfully (I am revising from band to bypass Nov 30th. ) For some reason when I lose, it's always in the face!!!! Ugh not where I want it at first! Lol. Maybe you are losing elsewhere. Have you measured? -
Welcome!! I too was banded and will be revising to bypass Nov 30th. I have already had my band removed August 10th, I had to wait 3 months before revising to bypass. That's great that you are doing so well!! Congratulations on your journey to a newer you!!

The GERD is probably more concerning with the sleeve than the hernia. Long standing GERD can worsen with the sleeve forcing a revision in the future. That may be why doc is suggesting bypass over sleeve.

Beginning the Process of getting a revision and scared of being a failure again!
Dream4tc replied to stleochic's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my band for 4 years. Lost 80 pounds, but it slipped and had to have it removed Aug 10th. I wanted to have my revision in one surgery, but my insurance company didn't want to pay for that, so instead they are paying for 2 surgeries, oh well its their dime. It would have been nice to have it done all at once for less time off, less recovery time, less risk...etc l. The pain of the removal was pretty intense at the port site, and the most pain I had was the scar tissue that he removed that the band had made. My surgeon made me wait for 3 months and I am scheduled for my revision Nov 30th. I am hoping the pain won't be as severe as the removal was. When banded it was difficult to eat healthier foods. I was unable to eat citrus, hard veggies, salad would get stuck often, shrimp, and no breads, chips, or pastas. Meat would also get stuck. I know what you dealt with. I think everybody has the fear of failure, more so with revision. It is normal, but don't let the fear consume you or prevent you from being successful with this new chance. Follow the rules, measure and weigh your food and you will do great!! -
Lapband to RNY-Surgery date 11/18/15
terrydumont46 replied to StacyTracy73's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
good luck. I am a revision too and am loving the bypass, it is nothing like having a band. I am very very happy with my decision to do it. -
I had the revision from lap band to gastric bypass 2 days ago. To the great surprise to my doctors,I was up and walking and passing the mandatory fluids so I only needed one night in the hospital. I'm just on clear liquids but so far so good. Originally (11 years ago) the lap band worked for me and I lost about 100 pounds but when I had my gall bladder removed the band had flipped and it was replaced. The new band never worked for me. I constantly needed adjustments and fills. Over the last 5 years I gained back 55 pounds. My esophagus is enflamed. I have been dehydrated for years because I could not tolerate water. I had difficulty taking any medications because they would just sit in my esophagus. Now that the band is out I can drink water, soup, protein shakes and take all my vitamins and supplements. I am feeling tired but excessively positive

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?
SleeveandRNYchica replied to Jenaenae84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made it through revision surgery. I woke up in a lot of pain but it seems more tolerable now. I had a hernia repair as well, so not sure if that is contributing to the pain. Honestly, I am hurting more than expected. I did not have this much pain with the sleeve. I know two different procedures. I am having trouble urinating, so they did a bladder scan. I have already walked and preparing to walk again. Since I have a history of nausea they gave me a patch behind the ear and are very understanding about how easy it is for me to get nauseous while walking. I have not had a drink in almost a 24 hours, so I am thirsty! I have mouth swabs. I will update on scar tissue and my VSG complications that were repaired once I speak to my surgeon. Thank you for your support! @@CHLOE12 how are you? Not sure if I missed your update. -

SleeveandRNYchica replied to Jenaenae84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@CHELLB33 I guess I am a bit nervous too since I am a revision patient. What we do know is that my stomach is twisted. He said it could be longer than normal surgery time because they don't really know until they get in. I have a hernia repair too! I am glad they were able to get you all fixed up and on the road to recovery. How are you feeling this morning? When will you get released? -

Beginning the Process of getting a revision and scared of being a failure again!
jdemzi replied to stleochic's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am scared too. My revision is next week. I would guess most of us who are doing a revision are scared of failure. How could we not be? But it is also exciting because it does have a higher success rate and gives us a better tool with which to lose weight. -

Long2BFree replied to Long2BFree's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm not really sure I want to go for a revision, I thought LB would be for life and without issues and am afraid if I do GB and then have issues, where would I be? I did tell my husband this evening that I will do it if I don't have more weight off by the summer. I started doing a plant based diet this week and so far, so good. -

I too wanted my GB done at same time, but my surgeon wanted me to wait,.....and my insurance company wanted me to wait also. I had mine removed Aug 10th. He is making me wait 3 months before revision which I have a tentative date of Nov 12. I tried to beg and plead with my ins company to allow one surgery but nope they wouldn't agree -

The Candidate replied to Tina1969's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I can't relate to your particular situation as I've never had the band. I am however, 12 weeks out from the bypass. I have no regrets. It was definitely worth it. I hope everything gets resolved with your revision. Best of luck! -

Complications after the RNY
rte837 replied to RGraham87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day after rny, back to OR for bowel obstruction. Revised RNY 5 years later because I was stupid! Next day after that, back to OR for incarcerated hernia. Then 5 yrs later, started vomiting intermittently. Had sx. about 6 months later but all he found was adhesions. Stll, vomitting worsened and just last Thurs., had dissection of esophagus and repaired hiatal hernia and tacked pouch in place as it had rotated clockwise and pertruded above the disphragm. I hope to god this is it now; I pay cash for each surgery! BUT... since last Thurs., haven't thrown up!! And in case you are wondering; NO REGRETS AT ALL! -
Originally banded in 2007- fast forward 8 years of vomiting and regain -Revision to RNY scheduled for 11/18/15

Hello, I am Kathleen, from Virginia. I have started at 260 and had the surgery on October 6, so far I have lost 23 pounds. This is not my first time having was surgery. I first started at 437 pounds and had surgery on November 2005. I had to have a revision from the first surgery because I had scar tissue. Hopefully this time I won't have any problems. Is there a food diary here that will keep track of all of your Protein.

Have Lapband and Want Get GB Revision but Hubby Scared for Me To
Lutasha replied to Long2BFree's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
The incision where they removed the port was very sore but it felt better than having the port! I always hated that the worst!! I had a sinking feeling within days of getting my band. I knew it wasn't going to be the right thing for me. I was apprehensive about getting revised but it has been so much better than having the band for losing weight. I don't regret revising at all! -

Did you have the sleeve then a revision to the switch? I didn't think the bypass and the sleeve were compatible because of the way they are cut. -
