PRE OP Weight loss Mind Games
Jazzy1125 replied to Newyearnewme2019's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
True.. I have started to drink a 16 ounce water on the way to work.. before my coffee and breakfast. It has really helped get my liquids in earlier and feel full. Sometimes that water is a protein water.. and then I have protein shake in my coffee.. all before I attempt to eat that egg, or 2oz of yogurt or cottage cheese LOL I cannot wait till next week I can add in pancakes.. low carb ones, with protein powder added.. silver dollar size is what I will be able to handle I am sure.. -
Hubby ordered a pepperoni pizza during my soft food stage. Since I was scared of eating the crust I took a fingerful of cheese and pepperoni off the top. Purred pizza sounds gross to me. And I went straight from full liquids (4 weeks) to soft foods (4 weeks). Anything that shouldn't be pureed (pizza, tacos, etc) I didn't eat. Stuff like mashed potatoes, refried Beans, yogurt, etc I ate in the soft food stage. But that scoopful of cheese and meat sure were yummy!

I can eat something one day, the next I can't tolerate it?
crocodoxie replied to Flutterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I have the same thing. Greek yogurt, one day I love it. The next, just the smell turns me off. Eggs, fab for a week straight, the next week, nope, not today. It's an interesting process and I just accept it for what it is. I usually know within a bite or two. -
Any photos of "plated" food portions?
LumpySpacePrincess replied to GoGirl2014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At your stage, best thing to do is measure your portions. Never eyeball, or you might find your portions creep up which can slow your losses. 3 Tablespoons at the absolute max for your stage of purees, or up to 4 ounces of more liquidy foods like yogurt or soup. Hope this helps! -
Food aversions / tired of what you used to like?
Jachut replied to greythope's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I can relate to that. I can eat almost all foods, but many dont appeal to me much anymore, although for the sake of a balanced diet, I still eat them. I no longer enjoy the meat and 3 veg type meal - even a good roast dinner like on Christmas day. I make them still as its a family staple, and a good way to get in your Protein and vegies. But I'd be happy with Soup every single night. I went years and years without eating yogurt - although I liked it. Its a staple now. I dont eat a lot of bread. I can eat it - even most of a sandwich but I just plain dont fancy it much. Thankfully I never ever crave McDonalds or pizza or similar. I cant eat in food courts, I stand there staring round in despair for half an hour before giving up and buying coffee. I dont want ANY of it (although I could have a healthy sandwich made up). I can easily go into McDonalds with my kids and not even be remotely tempted to eat anything. Sadly Cookies are more appealing than ever. All the difficult "solid" foods that are a bit harder to eat basically no longer appeal like they did. But you know, I think its dangerous to give into that or you end up with soft foods that are easy and then up goes your calories. If I want to be sure I'll go from lunch to dinner without snacking, then I *MAKE* myself take the time and effort to eat a sandwich. Because yes, I can eat a yogurt in five minutes, but I'll be looking for Snacks an hour later. -
Any 12/8/15 Sleeves out there
ezbeinggreen replied to mizzvickie72088's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 12/7 so just one day before you! Hopefully that is OK?! I am in the same boat. I definitely feel hunger and some days feel like I can eat more than I should compared to some other folks who even at 1 - 3 months out are still really restricted to just a few spoonfuls. Especially soft foods like yogurt, soups, etc. I can definitely eat more yogurt than say chicken or fish. For example, I can eat an entire 5.3 oz greek yogurt now but maybe 2-3 oz of flaky fish. But as long as I keep my calories in check I feel like I am OK. My doc had me on purees and soft foods from the day I got home from surgery so maybe that is the difference? The people I know who are super restricted were on clear and full liquids for weeks before moving to purees. I am already eating regularly textured food at this point. The good thing about that is I can drink pretty much anything and tolerate just about any foods so getting my Protein in isn't difficult mechanically - I am just really sick of Protein shakes and don't want to drink them anymore! I started working out again today, took a really long walk this morning (I need to work back up to the gym). Felt good though - I am down 20 pounds since surgery (25 total since pre-op diet) and I felt the difference. -
Looking for a sensible Breakfast idea!
Baconville replied to kparadisek's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
For a faster breakfast I like Greek Yogurt with a Tablespoon of ground flax seed. I like Dannon Lite & Fit. 13 grams of protein, low in sugar. -
OK, even though I know there’s a whole bunch of you that are going to disregard this PSA, here goes: I am tired of all the sugar free yogurt flavors from OIKOS and Dannon Light & Fit. I try to eat plain Fage as much as I can but sometimes I need some flavor and I’ve just been able to start adding fancy things to my yogurt. So, imagine my excitement when I found this little gem today! It. Is. So. Gross. I mean, right when I got the spoon close to my face, I knew it was going to be terrible, but I did it anyway. Do not eat this item. It is not food. Now, I don’t know why I was excited in the first place. I don’t like pumpkin pie OR pumpkin spice anything. I love cinnamon & nutmeg but I lean toward apple not pumpkin. And pumpkin pie is particularly revolting as the texture is disgusting as well. So, why would I buy this? THAT’S HOW DESPERATE I AM, PEOPLE! You’ve been sufficiently warned. Do what you will.

I made mine really soft, almost custard consistency. I added a tsp of greek yogurt and a tiny bit of shredded cheese then cooked over a low heat stirring frequently. The softness of the eggs made them perfect for the soft foods stage. I then added chopped spinach and other veg as I got further along. Never had an issue with them. 3 mths out I went to iHop and was able to order a vegetable omelet no problem. I still could only eat 4 bites, but it didn't bother me.

No carbs, sugar, pork, all pre-op diet
MissErika replied to skinnyminnieme's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
HA, I was shocked when I read "pre op" honestly because it's just so unheard of!! Everyone has a liquid pre-op... >.< Or so it seems like. In my pre-pre OP (before liquid) I had: Two eggs in the morning. Turkey sausage/bacon. Berries. Or a granny smith apple (those curb hunger, I swear by it) or cheese and lean meat from the deli that's nitrate free (mainly in a rush) Lunch: chicken salad with spinach, nuts (count them) and berries (if I didn't have it at breakfast) and balsmic spray (it spreads nice and you control it) or Stir fry veggies with meat, low sodium soy sauce You can do tuna on a piece of bread and cheese (did this on weight watchers before) or a "pizza" in the oven with light pizza sauce, turkey pepperoni and lots of veggies. Dinner: Basically same as lunch. Meat and veggies. Casseroles, stews, etc. Everything I mentioned before. Snacks/dessert: Baked apple. Cut apple into pieces with cinnamon, wrap the top of the bowl you use, and put in microwave for a minute to minute and a half. Yogurt. Celery sticks and natural Peanut Butter (if your NUT lets you, mine didn't) Veggies with guacamole It's been so long... it's hard to remember everything lol... -
Protein, Protein, Protein

Greek yogurt makes a nice snack, especially if you're early out. Greek yogurt has double to protein of standard yogurt. HTH -

I would call your doctor's office and speak to the staff about this. My guess would be that you are perhaps trying to eat too much. Slow down and really check in with your body between bites. Are you experiencing any strange or new sensations such as hiccuping, nose running, chest pain? Those are all soft signals to stop eating immediately. You have had enough. I also wonder whether perhaps your stomach is not ready for soft food and you should stick to truly mushy things like cottage cheese (I love those Breakstone pre-packaged cottage cheese and compote dishes), mashed potatoes, yogurt, etc. But you should discuss this with your doctor. I certainly hope you feel better soon! Remember, there is really a learning curve when we first get banded. We have to learn to recognize what our band is telling us and it does take time. Nancy

This evening I had a very scary thing happen to me, and I'm wondering whether other bandsters have ever experienced anything remotely like this. I was banded just under two months ago and had my second fill four days ago. For the first two days I consumed only Protein shakes, followed by a day of mushies. Today, the fourth day, I had hot Cereal for Breakfast with milk and yogurt. In the afternoon I ate a slice of watermelon. Then for supper I was planning to eat a small piece of fish, mashed yam and steamed broccoli. I tasted the yam, ate one spear of broccoli, then a forkful of fish. It all happened VERY fast. Suddenly I felt restriction -- something I had never felt before. Almost immediately I felt superhot and dizzy. The room began to spin, I put my head down on the table, and at that point I lost consciousness. My daughter says I lost all color, my face turned grey, and I slid off my chair onto the floor; my eyes rolled back in my head, I was gasping for air and wheezing, then not breathing at all (or so she thinks). 911 was called, and paramedics arrived within 5-7 minutes. But by that time I had regained consciousness, and I recovered very quickly -- the entire episode lasted only a few minutes -- no residual pain, normal blood pressure. It being a Sunday night, I have only been able to speak to the on-call doctor at my medical practice, someone I do not know. He could not explain what happened to me and at first suggested that it had nothing at all to do with the band! I don't believe that for a moment, and I will talk to my own doctor tomorrow. It was NOT A GOOD THING to pass out. I have never in my life fainted. What if I had been alone? Very scary.

My Dr recommends full liquids for two days after a fill and then two days of soft food in case of swelling after a fill. If after five to six days, you can't get solid food down (yogurt is not solid) then I would say you're too tight. But a day or two after a fill might be too early to tell, UNLESS you can't even get Water down, then you're too tight. Our levels of restriction can vary throughout the day. some people are tighter in the a.m and find warm liquids best then.

I was reading posts over on the VSG forums and came across http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ Under the links and resources, there are some recipes that looked good, particularly the "BITES" section. I've always had a hard time eating a nutritional Breakfast. Mostly because I never get up in time to make something before heading to work. The idea of using a muffin pan to make scrambled egg "muffins" seemed like something I could accomplish on the weekend and have ready for the week without too much hassle. There's all sorts of stuff that looks good on there. Just thought I'd share. I'm almost two months out, and I've about reached my limit with just plain dairy Protein (string cheese, plain cottage cheese, plain greek yogurt), etc. I've been eating a lot of that since surgery and have been trying to find ways to fix things that are simple but different.

Any Vegetarian Sleevers? Spicy food?
My Sleeved Tummy replied to starfish108's topic in Food and Nutrition
www.myfancypantry.com Since being sleeved (I'm 7 weeks out) I've enjoyed the chicken masala and chole masala quite often. When I was on purees I would blend them up with a little greek yogurt and, occasionally, some rice. Most of the recipes are not completely WLS friendly--but quite a few can easily be tweaked. This blog is fairly successful, and I don't really plan on making it "vsg friendly." I really enjoy cooking with real foods and creating fun dishes. I don't foresee myself using sugar-free ingredients or replacing ingredients with "diet" food. For right now, I don't eat everything that I've posted. My husband does. If it fits into my plan, I'll try it though (just a taste). My ultimate goal is enjoying--with moderation--something I could never do before surgery! To find the curry recipes I've posted so far: On the right hand side of the blog there should be a category menu. Choose "Indian" or "curry" ...they should pop up. I'm hoping I'll be successful with my surgery and eventually I'll be able to enjoy a little bit of anything I make. -
Any Vegetarian Sleevers? Spicy food?
My Sleeved Tummy replied to starfish108's topic in Food and Nutrition
I'm so happy to hear that! I always get so excited when someone tries my recipes--or an authentic curry--and loves it! The gravy is really similar to what you'd get in an Indian restaurant...minus the cream and ton of oil/ghee. Good for you for getting the spices! You can use them in all sorts of recipes, and since being sleeved I find myself adding turmeric (helps with inflammation and promotes healing, among other things) to nearly everything! Tonight I made a simple dish of shrimp cooked with cilantro, lime juice, mustard seeds, turmeric, coriander, cumin and garam masala...with a little yogurt dipping sauce. So easy...and so flavorful! As for the rice, I've been eating it--in tiny amounts--since I began purees. I don't have any issues with it, and my weight loss has not been impacted. (7.5 weeks out, 39.6 pounds down). You shouldn't have trouble in Asia. There should be plenty of lentils, tofu or paneer, if you're in India. -
Gas.....I thought I was going to skip it.
CynthiaR replied to mandi78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi it's been 4 days for me and I started yogurt today and have gas...I'm miserable! I'm going to roll side to side on the ground like horses do and see what happens! LOL. -
Thanks - you know it could be my blood pressure meds. I was on one that had a Water pill built into it. My blood pressure was going too low for me (90/60) and they stopped the one that had the water pill in it. That is about the time that the water weight started to come back. I was told by my pulmonary doc that I may need to go to a lymphology clinic, but won't do anything until I see my surgeon on 1/3. I'm at the end of my soft diet stage and haven't had any problems with food thus far. I even had a small piece of beef tenderloin, thoroughly chewed, and I had no issues. I've been eating low sodium Soup, scrambled eggs, plain greek yogurt, a bit of mashed potatoes, a slice or two of Canadian bacon and still using Protein drinks. I'll post if there is something further the doc says I should do.

What do you “EAT”
RickM replied to Excitedforthesleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein drinks are the staple early out; I would avoid that Genepro stuff as it neatly fits into the "too good to be true" miracle supplement scam category (and nobody really knows what it is.) Whey protein, preferably whey isolate, is the well accepted, best absorbed form. I also had greek yogurt, eggs, and some sloppy tuna salad, though those may not be permitted on some diets the first week or two - check with your program directions. -
I ate a lot of chicken in the early stages. I baked the chicken breast and then ran it through the food processor to get the consistency I wanted and needed. The variety came from how I seasoned it. Comfort food=a "sauce" of thickened chicken bullion and a tiny bit of mashed potato. Mexican=taco seasoning+plain yogurt in place of sour cream. Italian=a little red sauce plus mozzarella or parmesan. Other options included soy or teryaki sauce or Cajun seasoning. I think you get the idea. I was able to satisfy my taste buds. When I first started preparation for WLS, I was of the mindset that I was not going to weigh food or track intake. Although I already had a pretty good idea of what portion sizes were supposed to look like, tracking and weighing have made a huge improvement in making sure I'm getting the suggested amounts of food. I use Lose It for tracking. The basic version is free and used it for months. I upgraded to premium during a sale but I don't really use the extra features. I think you'll get many opinions on what people choose to use. It's just a matter of what you like.
