  1. Not sure if this exactly counts as a non-scale victory since it involves scales...! I haven't had the joy of experiencing this yet, but I just realized that now I can get weighed on the actual scale at my primary care physician's office, rather than just tell them what my weight is because I'm too heavy for it. That is exciting but not something I can share beyond here and with my husband!
  2. I am in the process of getting cleared for sleeve surgery. Do you think my surgeon will give me a date if I am Only 3 pounds from the weight he wanted me to weigh?
  3. Hi all!!! I hope you are all keeping safe and having a great school year! I started going back into work this year (I was remote last year) and boy I am starting to fall back into old habits! Its so easy to go the day without eating anything and then pick up fast food on the way home. I cant just go to the bathroom every 30 minutes so I drink way less water than I used to. When I get home I still have work to do so I don't work out as often I used to. And Im so used to having a drink while I work at home that its hard not to want to stop at my local liquor store after work (especially after a trying day dealing with parents who refuse to send their kids to school with masks.) It was so much easier being healthy when I was remote. Anyone else struggling? Any advice or tips? Im trying to find more snacks to eat throughout the day and easy dinner/lunch ideas that don't require as much prep. I am so over protein bars! I pack them and never eat them. Mostly I make a drink with protein powder and drink it throughout the day. I either have turkey bacon or yogurt in the morning. I also nibble on carrot sticks from the schools lunch when students bring them for me (they can be so sweet!). I am contemplating morning workouts but I just don't want to! lol. Maybe a morning walk with my coffee? I still can't eat large portions of anything so Im not gaining weight but I was already a slow loser. Im worried that this job will halt my progress. Why cant I be one of those people who loses weight when they are stressed! 😣 I know this is a list of excuses and I just need to try harder but I could really use the support of my fellow educators! What has been working for you?

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Checking back in w/ September Gastric sleeve buddies. I’m now 5 weeks post-op and down 25 pounds. I’ve phased myself back to a regular diet and have no issues with N/V. I get the protein shakes in when I can and found the multivitamins and calcium difficult to chew so throw them in w/ a protein shake and blend the hell out of it. Current weight 162. I can only tolerate small portions and find I feel miserable if I don’t stop when my body says enough. I realize more now than ever that eating the large portions was mostly mental because my mind still tells me to finish what’s on my plate. I remain regret free in my decision to have the surgery. Best of all my back pain has diminished significantly and I have more energy. I wish you all health and happiness as you continue on your weight loss journey.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Reduce your intake a little. You may be eating enough calories to sustain current weight.

    Bad Breath

The bad breath (and possible BO as well) from ketosis is a result of minimal carbohydrate in your diet - not uncommon early on - and improves as your diet improves and varies. Some intentionally go "low carb" in the belief that it will improve their weight loss, which exacerbates the effect. Some programs intentionally call for some carbohydrate early on via foods like oatmeal, cream of wheat, diluted fruit juice as a means of preventing this along with the low energy and lethargy that many experience in the initial weeks.

Looking for Surgery People 60 and UP

Hi, I am 69 and just celebrated my 5 year surgiversary for RNY. I can’t encourage you enough. It has been the best thing I have ever done for my health and well-being. I look a decade younger than my peers because I am at a healthy weight. The weight loss resolved almost all my health issues (still take Synthroid as that is genetic condition). This site was extremely important in helping me to stay on track. Best of everything to you.
  8. Does anyone have a doctor in Houston that would see you after having weight loss surgery in Mexico for follow-up care? Need a recommendation.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Weight loss has basically stopped. I’d like to get to 150 but totally thrilled where I am. Wondering if this is the end of the losing since it’s been about 6 weeks.

  16. So what Med School did your partner graduate from that informed him on how fast you should heal? Some of us are back at our normal activities in a week or so while others take months to get back. It really depends on a lot of things like your starting weight/BMI, your physical condition before surgery, your nutrition, the complications of the surgery, any other conditions you have etc, etc. Even totally healthy people after surgery have different healing rates.
  17. Hysterical! I know the feeling! I was waiting until I finished losing weight to buy new panties, but down over 90 pounds, the saggy ones weren’t working. I also donated my size 18 jeans and was sooo excited to squeeze into a size 4 that ran big!!!

    June Surgeries

Hey everyone. I'm about 3 months post surgery. Have to tell you, drinking those protein shakes are my biggest hurdle. I forget to eat often. I work from home and usually work straight through. My weight loss is close to 45 lbs but I feel it is slowing. I know it's because of my lack of intake. Looking for any tips to make protein/ meals more routine. I do not get hunger pains so it's tough.
  20. I struggled with the pre-surgery diet and the liquid phase. For me, the week prior to the surgery was much tougher than the week after the surgery (I had no major complications, so take that for what it is worth). And it is a struggle for the reasons that you mentioned -- you are completely changing your life. You are not just changing how much you eat, you are changing what you can eat and you are changing your emotional coping mechanisms. I had my little plan for how I was going to eat right and eat light for the few weeks before the surgery and then my emotions and fears blew that plan to pieces. My mind was terrified of what was to come -- I had some terrible eating binges about 10 days before surgery. But remember why you ever stepped into the surgeon's office to begin with. For me, it was the realization that I had been telling myself for 20 years that the "next diet" would work. Some of the "next diets" worked for a while, but none of them kept the weight off. Everyone says surgery is a tool for weight loss. Agreed. But I needed an extreme tool to lose an extreme amount of weight. It was now or never and I didn't consider never to be an acceptable answer. So I buckled down, made it through the liquid liver phase (it gets better after about day 3) and got through to surgery. And it has been worth it. I'm 2 months out and do not regret it.

    No weight loss

It is humanly impossible to be gaining weight on 400-450 calories. Just stick to the plan and the downward trend will pick up.
  22. I've opted not to have desserts, treats, cheats, etc. until I am in maintenance or 1+ year out, whichever is sooner, even if I have the "ok" from my surgeon. I intend to stick to my plan !00% for the time being. My sleeve will never be more effective and weight loss be easier than it is right now, in the post-op honeymoon phase. If I want to be successful long-term, I need to be willing to give up some comforts in the short-term. The empty calories don't serve me or my goals and aren't helpful in any way. Additionally, I don't want to give myself any temptation to fall back into old habits that might hurt me in the long run. I support you in whatever decision you make, but I would suggest maybe holding off for a while. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

    No weight loss

Hi boogie thanks for the words of encouragement now I’m officially 2 weeks post op and still at the same..😞…I have an upcoming visit with my nutritionist, I will have to ask if this is normal or am I doing something wrong, I’m tracking everything I eat and walking 5 to 6 days a week…. The only thing I can think of that may be affecting the weight loss is my intake of my daily calories.. I’ve just upped it a bit I was in the high 300 to 450-ish yesterday i hit 500… not sure if all this is right.
