    Band to sleeve

@@josiek1988 In my case, I didn't have "classic" symptoms like slippage or an infection at the port site. The first sign I had was a return of my acid reflux. I had it before banding and it went away for about 2 years but then it came back. That happens to a lot of folks so no one seemed concerned. The second symptom (which no one thought was band-related at the time) was a horrible sharp pain that started in my side and radiated to my back. It would last about 3-4 days, then go away for a few weeks, then come back. Everyone thought it was muscular but I knew it wasn't, it was deeper and it was debilitating - it hurt to do anything active (I could no longer run), heck even going over a bump in the road while driving caused agony. I had every test known to man -xray, CAT scan, MRI, dye tests, endoscopy, colonoscopy - you name it. Nothing. I think they started to think it was psycho-somatic. FInally during a barium swallow my surgeon saw a small pocket of air but said it was nothing to be concerned with and couldn't be causing the pain. Eventually I just stopped complaining about it and it lessened over time. I kept getting band fills and would feel restriction on some days but others I could eat anything without issue. I slowly started regain weight - I assumed it was because I couldn't work out. Then one weekend I came down with a high fever and what I thought was the flu and ended up in the hospital for 10 days. Whatever infection I had made me septic, my kidneys had shut down. I got so dehydrated I ended up with a bowel obstruction and that is really what kept me in the hospital for so long, waiting for that to clear up. While I was there more tests showed my band had completely eroded into my stomach. The reason I was feeling restriction sometimes was that not only had my band eroded, but my stomach actually birfucated and grew around the band so the food had two paths to go down, one banded and one not. I am convinced that mysterious infection was either caused by the eroded band or my immune system had been so weakened by it, I couldn't fight strep or whatever it was I had (they never figured it out). Long story short, symptoms may seem unrelated because pain may manifest in other areas, or because of secondary infections. If you feel anything abnormal a simple swallow study and an upper GI can help determine if the band has slipped or is eroding. it is a foreign object and erosion is often caused by your body trying to reject it.

    10 months after conversion

Congrats - you look wonderful! I think 78lbs in 10 months is a great loss! And your body has changed so much - so the weight isn't all that counts - do you keep measurements?
  3. I suffered with lap band for about 8 years and finally decided to get it converted to RNY last year. I had the surgery July 15th, so tomorrow will be exactly 10 months. I think progress is going a little slower for me because 1) this is a conversion, and 2) I have PCOS and have historically not been able to lose weight on anything other than long term starvation. Even that wasn't working by the time I converted. As of this morning, I've lost 78 lbs and feel wonderful. I started at 275, so I'm finally comfortably in ONE-DERLAND! If you're hesitating to convert for any reason, I say DON't. Here are before and after pictures. I'm on the right, next to my sister in the before picture.
  4. Hi everyone, I had my gastric sleeve surgery on Monday dec 4. im 24, and I’m 5’5 my starting weight was 219.2, I am 5 days in and currently 207.6. Has anyone else got gastric sleeve surgery at around this weight? im kind of struggling. I’m confused by the diet and I think I’m not having enough fluids. My diet says to drink 3-5 oz every hour. And to includ Protein Shakes 2x a day. I haven’t been drinking enough fluids because my stomach starts to feel very fulll if I drink too fast. When did u start eating puréed food? ya diet plan says after 7 days to introduce puréed foods but I feel like my stomach will not be able to tolerate It. I’m also very worried about having loose skin. I’m hoping that my age will be on my side and my skin will be resilient but anyone that has had gastric sleeve at around my weight, what is your experience with loose skin? if anyone could comment on what a normal daily diet for them looks like I’d appreciate It example: 9-am 3 oz water 10 am 4 oz Protein shake 11 am 3 oz Water 12 pm 4 oz broth 1pm scrambled eggs

  7. Hi! I'm new to this site and I'm going to be banded within the next month. I have done all my pre-op exams and tests and now i'm waiting to schedule sugery! I'm anxious and nervous and excited all at the same time. I've even started having dreams about the surgery and life after! I'm 25 and have been overweight my entire life, except for a brief 2 years in high school in which I starved myself to fit into social pressures. I ended up addicted to diet pills, and gained the weight back 10-fold. After years of the diet roller-coaster, my parents suggested I look into the lap band procedure, and well, here I am! I'm looking to talk to some people who have a similar situation as me, or just someone who can listen to me vent occiasionally. I look forward to the journey with all of you!

Eating to soon after surgery ???

I was told by my surgeon that basically after the band is on, it is filled a little bit already. She doesnt think I will need a fill, but I most likely will get one. My surgeon had me eating yogurt without seeds, and tomato soup, and protein shakes the morning after surgery, because she needed to make sure that I could swallow and what not. I would say, if your hungry, eat a cracker, and make it really musy, or even eat an egg. I know its hard, but remember, its a short period of time before its too late, and express to your surgeon that look, your breastfeeding, and it takes a lot of energy for you to do so. Tell him or her that your feeling lightheaded or something to express the fact that this is really hard for you. I told my surgeon it was hard for me to be on a skim milk diet for 3 weeks prior to surgery, and she told me to eat a yogurt, or a cracker when I took my pills, I did and I still lost 19 pounds. So, hang in there, and were all here to support you.
  9. That does not surprise me in the least. I found a picture of me from 10 years ago. There are not very many pictures of me at my highest weight. I am so glad I had WLS and even more glad that I had the band removed and got the sleeve!

  15. I was banded on 4/19 and on day 2 I was supposed to start pureed food. There was no way this could happen. I was in such pain and so nauseous, I could only sip water. I then found I could eat a sugar free ice pop. That went down well. I also then searched other people's post-op instructions, on this website, and saw that a lot were instructed to follow clear liquids for 2 wks, full liquids for 2 wks, and THEN pureed foods for 2 wks. Ultimately followed by real food. Needless to say, clear liquids are working for me. The protein shakes are going down okay, too. Good luck to you!

    What the heck? !?!

Had my surgery on Aug31, I was at the end of a long 10 day period. Well, I had another that started Sept 10, and today, I am still flowing pretty strong. I spoke to my surgeon and nurse, both say this is a normal hormonal function that can occur. Prior to my surgery, I always had irregular periods. I missed months at a time, so perhaps my body is playing catch up.

    Typical meals

My diet's pretty varied from day to day as I'm a student who likes to scavenge for free food and I'm always eating leftovers from our couple dinner outings, but try to make sure most meals (except for fruit snacks) have Protein in it. I'm approaching 3 months out and I think yesterday I had: bfast - Protein Bar snack - about 1 cup grapes, 2 squares dark chocolate lunch - leftover penne gorgonzola from a restaurant to which I added some grilled shrimp and scallops for protein (been taking this for lunch for 3 days in a row, lol) snack: 1/2 large apple, about 10-12 mixed nuts 1 glass of juice before working out Post-workout: protein bar Dinner: 5-6 pieces of sashimi with a bit of rice
  23. Tomorrow is my last weigh in for my 6 month supervised diet. In the beginning of my diet I gained about 10lbs and then lost the weight I put on. So 6 months later I think I'm only about 2lbs less than my 6 month diet starting weight. I did however lose 60lbs on my own before I was being medically supervised, and that is reflected in my 5 year medical history. My question is will the insurance company deny my surgery because I didnt lose 10% of my 6 month starting weight? Should I do another month of dieting to try to lose more weight before submitting my paperwork to my insurance? I have BCBC of Texas...I'm really nervous about this.
  24. Does your insurance compay require you to lose 10% of your weight during the 6-month diet? I have never heard that before. I was told I would need to lose 10% of my weight during the pre-op diet, then that was switched to 10% of your excess weight. I was not given a set number of pounds to lose during the 6-month diet. I was told not gain weight during this time and not to go below a 40 BMI.

Got 5 cc's today at TLBC

Hi: I have an Inamed 10 cc band. My first fill was 3 cc, but I was belching and sliming, and had to get 1cc taken back out. Pretty good on this and get my next fill this coming Thursday. Have had some chest pain and sliming and pb'ing, especially the first week after my first fill, but I now feel really ready for another fill, as I seem to be able to eat more than I want to be eating.
