  1. Ten days post op for me and initially lost 10lbs but as of day 10 am up a lb. completely discouraged. Getting in my protein, water. I just don’t get it. I wasn’t required to lose any weight prior to surgery. How can I not be losing?

    February 2019 weight loss buds

That's amazing. I guess all surgeons have different requirements. I have to be on a complete all-liquid diet 10 days before surgery. Its gonna be hard!

    I GOT MY DATE!!

Note to self... NO STOCKING UP. Got it! I am really into makeup and all that jazz, so one of the things I am booking before surgery is to get eyelash extensions so when I wake up, I'll feel all pretty. lol On a scale of 1-10, how bad was the pain after? I was thinking of just bringing flowing dresses, would yoga pants be too constricting on the wounds? I plan on walking as soon as I wake up, I'm afraid of a blood clot forming so I plan to WALK WALK WALK! I really appreciate y'alls input.
  4. My heaviest weight was 370. In 2010 I had the band installed (such a mistake, waste of time, money and effort IMO) March 10th, 2018 at my Pre-Surgical check in I was 310. March 21st, 2018 at check in for surgery I was 294.4. I had the band removed and revised to the bypass. Today, January 23rd, 2019. 308 days after surgery... I hit a number that I haven't seen in more than 20 years Onederland. I'm down 95 lbs since surgery, 110.6 lbs from pre-surgical. And a staggering 170.6 lbs from my heaviest weight. I need to thank so many people that if I tried, I'd forget someone and then we'd start with the hard feelings. So I'll go with this. Thank you. If you've helped me through this in any way, shape, or form, Thank you.
  5. Dr. Francisco Manuel Contreras Guarista We recently received information about Dr. Francisco Manuel Contreras Guarista that we need to share with the Bariatric community. Dr. Francisco Manuel Contreras Guarista was sentenced on 2/04/2011 for DRUG SMUGGLING! https://www.docketalarm.com/cases/California_Southern_District_Court/3--10-cr-00834/USA_v._Contreras-Guarista/ He is currently being represented by Santé Surgical Group and operating out of Oasis of Hope Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico. We also received information that he is a medical doctor and is not licensed as a bariatric surgeon in Mexico! Please make sure you share this information with friends and family that are researching having surgery in Mexico.
  6. Hi I’m new here and recently had surgery on 1/18/19, my doctor said that I can take liquid Tylenol for pain (since I don’t like how hydrocordone make me feel) but I noticed it has high fructose corn syrup in it. So has anyone taken this & was okay?
  7. I am 2 weeks post sleeve surgery January 8, 2019. Have had only a 5 lb loss since surgery. Following diet and vitamins. Also developed a severe cramping/stabbing pain in lower left side the Doctors office doesnt seem to care about. Just told me to put on a tight shirt. Pain meds do not touch it..and it hurts to bad to exercise. Feel I have made a huge mistake. Lost more weight pre OP on my own than with this mess..just getting frustrated and depressed.

    Opinion?

That's over 3 pounds per week. That's GREAT! Take it easy on yourself, it's not all gonna come off overnight. I'm at 6 weeks post-op and have lost 19 pounds and I'm happy because I know it's going to be a consistent couple of pounds a week for the next 9-12 months and I'll eventually reach goal weight.
  9. I honestly wouldn't worry about losing too much weight. You're around 9 months post-op and it sounds like you're getting close to bottoming out on the weight loss. I wouldn't lose sleep about it or try to do anything to really change any good habits you have developed. This happens to lots of people and they start to freak out about losing too much weight and looking too skinny. It will not stay that way for long. It's typical for bariatric patients to drop below their new set point on their way down the scale--just a little weight loss forward momentum at play. Most bariatric patients will bounce back to their new set point with a 10-15 pound gain after they bottom out. Some people start to freak out and and worry about this being a regain--but it's not a true regain, but a healthy rebound that will bring you to your new, stable set point. It's a normal part of this process. I wouldn't try to do anything to your diet to stop the loss, you're body will do that for you once it determines that you have dropped too low and it will increase your hunger (grehlin is not the only hunger hormone you have). In short, it sounds like you have a good problem right now. Even if you're at 130 or even 125, you're probably near your bottom and will bounce back up to 140-150 with a little time--which will be a comfortable, healthy weight for you to maintain.

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

SO far behind, but let's go! #19 - my vitamins (I actually needed to take two pics because I have my work vitamins and my home - time-spacing issues - can't take certain ones together.) #20 - Aw, missed my chance to bestow upon you the glorious, glowing, fresh dewy image of my morning selfie---because I totally didn't look like a sleep deprived, working momma cliche with a dirty tank and holey socks. #21 My biggest support is my husband. Always. #22 Honestly I do my best working out to German rap/hip-hop--I can't understand it but it sounds incredibly angry which is basically what I feel when I am forced to exercise! Also, I have been scream-singing this one on the treadmill lately, much to the husband's chagrin. #23 - Get a fitbit to annoy you all day. I have mine vibrate to remind me to get up and move. Plus I love the little fireworks when I reach my 10,000 steps.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Great! I have a sleeve buddiversary🤗. I’m looking forward to the changes 2019 brings. I’ll post a quarterly timeline starting with 2018, pre-op day, June, Oct and Feb 2020 for 1 yr anniversary. I meet with Nutritionist for pre-op diet instructions next week. I don’t think I will do liquid diet right away since there will be about over two weeks before surgery date though. If I lose too much, may interfere with insurance qualifications.

  15. So... 4 months later and my lifts have increased to (5x5 sets): Squat: 325 Deadlift: 310 Bench: 195 I feel like my deadlift is easily the one I have the the most progress with. My squat has improved, but it's a battle every time. My bench seems to be my worst/hardest lift to progress. My goal is to get to 1,000lbs combined between all three lifts on my 5 rep max by the end of 2019.

    5 years out...gaining weight

Welcome to the site. No judgment for a weight gain. Can happen to any of us. People new to surgery can learn from what your going through. I had to get my head back into the game. It takes going through some mental battles to give up the carbs, sugar and extra calories. I went to basics. Log food in an app, hydrate, follow food plan and exercise. I joined a weight loss challenge for support. here is the January weight loss challenge https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/421742-❤-january-2019-challenge-❤/

    Nicotine test please help!!!

For an infrequent smoker, 10 days would be a safe window for a blood test (usually). For a urine test, after about 4 days. Saliva tests are after about 4 days as well. The thing is, it depends on frequency over a long term, so it's probably best to plan for the worst. There's an article on WebMD that breaks it down more, just search "nicotine testing".

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Idawn, I start my all-liquid diet on February 3--10 days before my gastric bypass. I appreciate you sharing your experience, I am not looking forward to this part as I'll be on liquids until about 3 or so weeks after the surgery when I can eat pureed foods. I only like chocolate protein shakes, so I suppose I'll be drinking a lot of those. I have not looked into any Isopure or Syntax products. If you recommend any you find for chocolate lovers, let me know. Also, I forgot that I think carbonated drinks are OK so I like the idea of using Sprite Zero with products. Hang in there and let us know what seems to work for you. You are on your way!!!! 😀

    Just Sleeved

I just had my surgery 1/14/19 and I have the same feelings! Surgery went smooth, I was up and walking right away, able to drink water and protein drinks without any problem, can eat 8 oz of soup with no issue. So then I started second guessing - "Did I make the right choice? What if I don't lose any weight and I have done this to my body? Why am I able to drink and take in protein and other liquids with no problems at such large amounts 3-4 days out from surgery?" .... I keep telling myself to trust the process and not to worry but it is hard!

    "morbidly Obese" since childhood

Yes - I started piling on the pounds at 5 years old. I recall being 180-190lbs at 13 years old - US size 14. I was put on diets constantly and forced to be active, but I kept on getting bigger and bigger. My parents would shout at me in frustration as they didn't understand why my weight kept creeping up. There were snacks all over the house - my parents were and for the most part have always been of average weight, or at most 15lbs overweight. I don't think they thought for a second they'd end up with a morbidly obese daughter. Especially, my dad, he was and still is very athletic. He was a Judo Instructor, he swims, cycles go to spinning class, runs 5k and 10k marathons - he's also done a triathlon. I am an only child, and I think the degree of loneliness I felt growing up as an only child drove me to overeat and overindulge in video games - 16-hour gameplay. Waking up at the crack of dawn and not resting until 11 pm. I had some good times, but I honestly think I was depressed between the age of 10-15 years old most definitely.

    Drinking alcohol again????

Hi all, I am 10 days post op now and have and event in a few weeks where I would like to be able to have a few spaced out drinks. What is best to have? I have already been told to avoid anything fizzy.

    TMI question re. vomiting

You're lucky elves, I have had foamies, I have had urp-ups. and a couple times I felt such pain I thought my pouch would involute out my mouth. No, not projectile vomiting, more like a cat retching up a hairball, I'm a RnY so that's the kind I know. Not sure if my sleeved brothers and sisters do the same way or not. One blessing , if one can regard it as such, my food reflexes and refluxs up so quickly it has no odor. The longest mine has stayed down is a half hour or so. I have upchucked all kinds of stuff, even water. To Many bystanders it probably looks like a coughing spell. Just another facet to why I am on TPN, Dr Needlemans nurse thought I had progressed to Stage 4 and truly that is where I should be but until everything straightens out if I attempt anything p.o.(by mouth) it is liquids or very thin purees. Only thing not that variety is unsweetened applesauce. This is per Dr Noria, my surgeons partner who is also my endoscopist. This Friday will be my 5th with her and 8th lifetime. I really respect her as well as liking her very much. And I believe I may still have my healing occur, this is just a bump in my road to final ✌ victory. I will be starting tomights feeding in just a few minutes, I am 12 hours on, 12 hours off, have blood labs once a week, only deficiency I have and it is mild, is iron. I will call OSU in the morning, they were shut down for Martin Luther King Day, find out whether I can address this over-& the -counter or whether I need a prescription. But it still is a fine world, no regrets except I wish my body behaved better, but I would never go back to before surgery, this life still better than life before. I will always be grateful to my facility Ohio State University Hospital- Wexner Medical Center, my wonderful skillful surgeon 😷 Bradley J Needleman M.D. and most of all to God who made everything possible. A great thing was done for me September 5th 2018 and I am proud of the person I now am becoming, I am. truly a wonderful work in progress. 😝
  25. I was recently honored to be asked to contribute to the January 2019 Special Report entitled Heavy Liabilities: Obesity, Weight Control, and Treatment Risks for Medical Law Perspectives, a publication intended to help attorneys, physicians, insurers, employers, risk managers, diet drug manufacturers, and patients who want to better understand medical-legal issues that may arise in connection with the treatment of obesity or other weight-related conditions. My topic was "How Can Insurance Benefits For Bariatric Surgery Be Obtained After A Denial?" and I hope it is helpful to anyone facing a denial from their insurance company.
