    Kaiser Richmond Anyone?

Dr. M spoke at my orientation. Seems like a good doctor. I still have a few pounds to lose to make goal weight. I wonder if you have to be exactly at goal for them to schedule the next appointment? I'm gonna bust my hump to get as much off before May 3rd.
  2. What if you don't have the 5 year history. I've been overweight for a number of years now, but I was never really sick so I never went to the doctor. Hence I don't have the weight records for 5 years. I went to the hospital about a year ago for knee surgery. It was weight related. I have a BMI of 42 now. I just moved to a new state so I don't even have my old doctor anymore. I have a new doctor now and I talked about it with him. I'm going in for a physical in a few weeks and my pcp is going to write me a letter. Diabetes and high blood pressure run in the family. What do you think my chances are of getting approved? After I get the letter from my doctor I'll be doing the psych evaluation.

    5 year history information

I also needed a 5 year history and was missing a year or two in the middle. My insurance told me to just write a letter stating why I didn't go to the doctor that year and what my weight was those years. So you might ask if a letter would be ok. I have also heard of some people submitting photos to sub for the weight history.

    1 day banded

Congratulations Lucylu and Wendy, I'm hoping to be banded soon so will be interested to hear of your progress. From what I understand the gas can cause pain and generally the port site has the most pain - probably because it has been attached to muscle. I read on another thread here that someone gained 7lbs while in the hospital so you are not alone. But remember you have had major surgery and your body is recovering. In a few days you will probably start to lose all that weight and more - and then you will be on the downward slide to a healthy weight.

    Sleep Apnea

I still use my CPAP although my pressures have decreased dramatically. Unfortunately my CPAP is also helping a heart condition so even if I loose enough weight to loose it for the breathing part I will still possibly need it for the heart part. Now I do miss a few days here and there and it doesnt bother me at all- if we go for a long weekend Iwont travel with it eiither.. I havent noticed any problems NOT using it.. but always check with your doctor..

    Kaiser Richmond Anyone?

Ok, so...I'm new to the forum. I am having my appointment with the Surgeon today at Richmond Kaiser. I have completed the Orientation/Nutrition meeting. I hope the Surgeon doesn't ask me to lose a lot of weight as I am ready to go now! I have watched so many videos about the sleeve surgery I feel like I could perform one. Crossing fingers this goes quick!
  9. Yes, I have some loose skin, but not nearly as much as I thought I would. I am 64 years old and I lost all my weight in 7 months and looked pretty saggy, but it has actually tightened up in the past 5 months. I lived in continual pain before surgery. I cannot remember a minute that I did not have back, knee, hip, and foot pain. I already had one knee replacement and was becoming more immobile from pain in the un-operated knee. It was due to be done very soon. Since losing the first 50 pounds, I have had NO PAIN! NONE! My un-operated knee has actually expanded in the joint space, whereas before it was bone on bone. I walk, hike, swim, and bike with no pain. I also got the doctor's blessing to discontinue my C-PAP, as my extreme sleep apnea is GONE, as is my asthma, GERD, and high blood pressure. My blood sugar, HDL and triglycerides and all normal now. I didn't get any fungal infections in my skin folds last summer! My thighs don't rub together now, so no chaffing when I wear a dress. I can ride my mule, get off the floor by myself, and keep up with my grand kids. I could go on and on and on about how my life has changed since WLS. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. A little loose skin? Really? Who cares? Not me. I have my life and health back and loose skin is such a small price to pay for all I have gained. People tell me all the time how good I look, and that I look younger, even with loose skin.
  10. Are you eating protein first? Are you drinking your water? Ate you staying away from junk food? Are you staying below the calories your doctor told you to? If your answer to all these is ye, then it's too early to worry. I find that I "cycle" between low and high calorie days. And 1 lb of weight is only 2 extra glasses of water so don't worry about that either.

    20 lbs down

It does get better. Strive for a bit more each day and soon you will be there. 8 weeks out I still struggle to get the full 64 so don't let it get you down. Congrats on the weight loss!
  12. If your scared you need to research it more, I also will be going to mexico the end of June and I feel confident with my dr "Dr. Aceves" and if I was scared or didn't have the good vibes from him or going then I would keep looking. I am nervous about surgery because anyone either here in the states or Mexico could have complication. I choose to go to Mexico because I have a very high deductible $5,000 plus the $2,500 wellness dr aftercare and in Mexico for $8750 for hospital stay and all and my PCP had no problem doing check ups. I think with the prices dr's in the U.S. charge more and more people are shopping around not just for weight loss but everything. Sorry so long
  13. The first few months I was banded, my TOM threw me for a loop, but then I got used to it and now I know what to expect. the day before and the first day of my period, I can't eat a thing. everything nauseates the heck out of me....then, on the 2nd and 3rd day of my period, I am like i was pre-banding. i can eat and eat and eat. nothing fills me up, i crave everything. by the 4th day (usually the last day) i get back to normal. The 2nd and 3rd day of my period I usually reserve for my wine drinking and copious amounts of chocolate eating it all evens out and i actually don't gain any weight during that time. probably the 2 days of not eating even out the 2 days of non-stop eating. i dunno, but that's what happens to me.
  14. YES!!! I think that is a big milestone. When you think about "weight limits" often times 250 is quite the barrier. Most rides, waterslides, etc. will post a weight limit warning "no one over 250", etc. So yes, you need to celebrate that you are below the 250 mark!! Woo hoo!

    HAIRLOSS NIGHTMARE

In addition to biotin and other nutrients, iron is a must. I knew this from another time I lost weight. Surgeon suggested starting this immediately both for hair and for energy level. I notice that I am getting a bit more tired than usual. I am 4 months out.
  16. Hi there, I was banded Dec 13, 2011 at 225 lbs, I quickly hit 175 on August 1, 2012. I then slowed down weight loss wise, it took me another year to get to 160. It was a very easy surgery and recovery. I just followed my Drs rules about protein, water and exercise, and so far I have'nt had any problems. I love my band !!! As far as my average daily diet ? I can eat 90 % of what I ate before, I eat fairly healthy, mostly home cooking. We eat out maybe 1-2 x a month. So, here goes.........6:30 am - hot tea, 8am Belvita breakfast biscuts (4 in a pkg) and a piece or 2 of turkey jerky. 10 am Swiss Miss ( made with water), & 4 wheat thins w/ PB. Lunch- usually fish, chicken, or small piece of meat, with fruit or raw veggies, Or today spinach salad with chicken , strawberries, tiny amt of cheese and almonds. 4pm -snack , small fruit or cookie (sigh.....my sweet tooth attack), 6 pm same as dinner. Very easy, no weird foods etc. Hope this helps !! Im very glad I was banded, im healthy and happy again !! Good luck !!
  17. Im not a march 07er but you can do it Tammy! Its not such a big deal gor three months, i had almost nine unfilled and it wa wearing thin by then, and granted, i had chemotherapy to help me keep my weight in check, lol, bit I really njoyed big salads and crunchy apples and wholegrain bread rolls, sty away from the crap and fill up on those healthy foods that as bandsters w can have touble eating and you will be abolutely fine for three months. You may find this gross

Oh yeah, macadamias are killer calories. I gained eleven pounds on my honeymoon eating a can of those suckers every day in Hawaii. But almonds, pecans..... Yum.

    Starting the journey

Thank you Shoelace and Frustr8 for your feedback. I will definitely be a frequent flyer to this site for the support and to see how everyone is doing in their journeys. I got a little worried the other day when I was seeing people talk about the cost of the surgery. So I called the financial people at my doctors office to check this out and was pleased to find out my cost will not be that bad. One less thing to worry about. It just amazes me how this surgery can change a persons life so drastically. This may sound a little selfish but I can't wait to go clothes shopping when I reach my goal weight. How clothes may actually fit right. Be able to find my size. Frustr8, I like that some of you call it you REbirthday. I will remember that and tell my family this. Will be posting my journey and looking forward to others that I can share

    Phentermine

I had similar experiences as others in this thread. Totally worked for me, but only for about 30 pounds. Every time I stopped using it, I gained it back. Tried a few times and it eventually stopped working. I agree it's basically speed, but I loved it though because I was already on depression meds so I got all the good stuff and none of the bad stuff (except cotton mouth, which is where I learned to chug water!).

    Weight Loss

Agree 100% with this post. Everyone's body is different; age, start-weight, etc are all factors. People put start weight, lost weight stats etc and I never knew how to calculate that my first month post-op. My start weight was much, much higher then yours and I lost before the surgery, had complications with massive swelling, gained 13 lbs from the surgery, nothing but a couple lbs the week after (miserable!) the 3 weeks out started losing like close to 20 lbs in just a week (the swelling went down completely and lost the surgery weight I had gained). I've lost very quickly since then but other conditions affect that as well. Also, inches count! Now, at 4 months out with a new job this last month that is VERY physical labor in a factory have contributed to lbs not going down but my pants are falling and inches are going down. You can't go bad with this really. Just give it time and be patient honestly-you'll be feeling good in no time and feeling the weight loss more as you heal and get into a more normal way of life.
  22. Congrats and thanks so much for sharing. Our height and surgery weight are about the same. It's so helpful to see what I might look like at a healthy, normal BMI. I can't wait! Lynda
  23. AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!! You are absolutely gorgeous!! (Even before weight loss).. Now you're a healthier gorgeous!!!! Congrats!!!
  24. I keep reading how everyone is loving their sleeve but so far I'm not. I will only say that I am only a week and a 1/2 out from surgery and still on full liquids. My weight loss has slowed down to a snail crawl...I have gone from losing a pound a day to .6 ounces to .4 ounces and now .2 ounces, and I'm not even 2 weeks in yet....smh...I know I shouldn't be discouraged but it's hard. I get in 75-85 grams of protein a day plus a minimum of 48 ounces of water. I am walking between 8,5000-10,000 steps a day. I am concerned that when I move on to purées it will completely stop and it's too soon to be stalling. It's a little disheartening considering I just cut 80% of my stomach out. I probably could have made just as much progress on weight watchers.

So far, not loving my sleeve

You are having the " WTF did I just do" moment that a lot of people go through. You have to look at the long term. The weight didn't appear over night and it isn't going away over night either. It will take time for the body to adjust to the major surgery you just had. First thing is to stop weighing every day...just stop that! It doesn't do you any good what so ever to measure in .5 increments. Second, stay on your plan. It will work, you just have to have the patience and the mind set that over the long run, you will be successful. It is easy to get discouraged, I have been there. I see people that have lost more weight than me that was sleeved after me. I follow my eating plan and I work out, I track everything like a crazy, but I got through stalls and have lost really slowly. But you know what, that's fine, it isn't more weight coming on, it is weight that is going off, never to return. This isn't going to be a quick fix, but more of a permanent solution, if you do things correctly. Hang in there!
