Getting closer to my Band to Sleeve revision...
VDLT replied to Fatty McFatster's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Congratulations on your approval! I was banded in 2001 and did pretty well for several years. I had a series of aggressive fills and unfills, developed several gastro issues and horrible left shoulder pain daily. I finally got unfilled in 2011 because I could not take it anymore. I gained all my weight back. I just got revised to sleeve on October 1st, 2015 after 14 years of band struggles. You are not the only one! -
I have a date! November 20th.
Fatty McFatster posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After completing all of the requirements and recommendations, I now have a surgery date of November 20th. Less than 4 weeks away until my band to gastric sleeve revision surgery!! Woo hoo!!! -
After the port revision, could you feel any restrictions? The reason why I am asking is because I went in to have a fill due to me not feeling restrictions and that is when my surgeon realized my port had flipped.

Judged at the hospital

I am so sorry this happened to you. I am a nurse and I am just really disheartened by the unprofessional and rude behavior of these nurses. Please report them. This is unacceptable. I would request that these nurses get sensitivity training and an official write up. Speak to the DON (director of nursing) write a letter, get names date and time you were there and like another poster said it wouldn't be difficult from getting if they use an EMR (electronic medical record) . Also speak to the floor team leader as well, or department nursing manager. There are wonderful nurses out there that are compassionate and that truly love what they do and provide above and beyond care. I hope this experience doesn't ruin your opinion of nurses in general. I can assure you we are not all like that. I had my surgeries at a Center of Excellence and the bariatric program was the best. My care was so wonderful. I hope I have the same care when I go in for my revision next month. Congratulations on your recent surgery. I truly wish you the best (hugs) -
Same here. No change in fill during port revision.

had revision on 7/31/2015

Very interesting. I had a VBG in Oct 2002 and have never been able to eat dense fruits, vegetables or meats without reflux issues. After all these years, I am in the process of being approved for removal of the VBG and revising to something else - Still to be determined. I also developed a hiatal hernia which will be repaired at the same time. We are hoping for surgery in either December or January depending on insurance. -
Did you get a fill while having the port revision done?
-
Try to have a restful day today in preparation for tomorrow. Best of luck and congrats on your revision!

I will pray that your revision surgery goes well and that it meets your expectations.

@@retzlpa I hope your surgery goes very smoothly and that you are delighted with your new pouch! I didn't realize you had a failed Lapband. I have two friends that had really bad fails with theirs and one friend with sleeve who now has reflux really bad. He's thinking about revision to rny. I guess I'm glad my doctor chose that for me. I was leaning to sleeve but said it was his decision and he said RNY.

*HELP* Dr. Altamirano or Dr. Zavalza?
Alex Brecher replied to Dawny28's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Dr. A is awesome. If I ever needed a revision, I'd go with Dr. A hands down. He has fantastic bedside manners and a great sense of humor. Once you meet him you'll understand. He's a meticulous surgeon and LOVES changing people's lives and really cares about his patients. -
I had my revision surgery (band to sleeve) on 8/11/2015. It took about 6 weeks before the large incision stopped hurting. A couple of my incisions are a little tender if I press on them, but at this point, they don't hurt. My surgeon sent me home with something called On-Q, which is a local anesthetic pain pump. This thing was GREAT! It kept my abdomen numb for the first several days. I was discharge on Friday. On Sunday, it was time to remove it. Some may be a bit squeamish about it, but it was very simple. I just had to pull the two catheters out and put a Band-Aid on the incision. Even after the removal of On-Q, I stayed numb for about 2 more days. Sorry for the tangent! Best wishes to you on your journey!

So thirsty all the time time!
SleeveandRNYchica replied to JudeaJordon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got home last night from revision surgery and have been sipping away. My goal is 64oz including my Protein that I mix with Water. I have the 8oz deer park individuals so I can easily tell how much I have drank. I am writing it all down so I can see my process. Also I write down if I liked the protein or not. I drink plain water and water with mio. I write down all my feelings too. If I drank to fast or if it feel sick. Which I have not gotten sick yet. It is a learning process for us all. You may want to try the fruity Protein drinks Matrix makes them I had the fuzzy navel today and it wasn't bad. It may help quench your thirst. -
Beginning my journey ????????
Stace_wow replied to Stace_wow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not actually required to diet. I have so many appointments coming up and am so glad my doctors office does it all in house. It's all pretty crazy. I just don't want the revision to Rouxeny if the sleeve doesn't work. I have not meet my surgeon yet but will do a lot of research on him. Feeling excited and nervous. What if .... -
Pain Post Revision
terrym123 replied to jdemzi's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am 5 days post revision lap to bypass surgery. I was up, walking and had zero pain in the hospital. But I had an IV so that likely had some pain meds. I was released after one night I took one Tylenol for the long ride home. They gave me a prescription for Oxy which I filled "just in case" but I have had zero pain, just a little tightness. My surgery was laparoscopic and I have 7 little stab wounds (?) with steri strips with little soreness. I think being on the liquid diet pre op really helped. It gives a new meaning to the term No Pain, No Gain. I wish you the same pain free experience. -
I can only speak from my personal experience and I had the RNY procedure, not a revision. I also have a high tolerance for pain mostly because I have had 5 spinal surgeries and they are pure hell. Honestly I found that first the first couple of days pain meds helped with initial surgical pain but honestly the real pain mostly came from the gas they pump into your belly for the procedure. Pain meds don't do anything for that at all. They simply don't touch it. the only thing that worked for me was walking walking walking, sipping Water and a heating pad. The other pain I had was when my bowels were starting up again, that can be very uncomfortable but I honestly found that chewing gas X tablets really helped that situation. I took liquid Vicodin the 2 days I was in the hospital and the first day at home. After that I moved to liquid Tylenol and honestly the alcohol in that simply did not feel very good so I quit taking pain killers all together on day 2 home from hospital. By the liquid Vicodin was horrible feeling to my tummy too. It honestly made me not want to take it. It really wasn't that bad but I do know that others really struggled with the pain.

Failing at the preop diet
Sojourner replied to neeciehoohoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Djmohr is telling you the truth. Plain and simple, the pre op diet is designed for liver shrinkage to allow your surgeon to access the area where he needs to work internally. The surgeon will be able to tell how compliant you have been with your pre op diet by the appearance of your liver. The pre op diet is also an opportunity for you to revise your relationship with food. The surgery will not fix your belief system about eating. I believe it would be better to let your medical team know what has happened, and follow their instructions. Best wishes for a successful weight loss journey to better health! -
I have been reading that a lot of people have pretty minimal pain post RNY, even post revision from band to RNY. My own information from my doctor says that after 3 days, taking Tylenol PRN is usually only what is needed to manage pain. I find this odd and I personally find Tylenol pretty useless. My mom found it odd and she had RNY a few years ago and is an RN who regularly has post op bari patients in her care at work. To me a revision would probably be more painful just because you are removing the port and the band plus any adhesions. I was told the port removal pain is usually the worst pain post op. Then you have the actual RNY. After my band was placed, I was in a good amount of pain for at least a few days, and still taking my pain medication PRN up to 2 weeks post op. Am I crazy to think that only having pain for 3 days seems overly optimistic and quite frankly, unrealistic? This isn't even taking into consideration the different pain tolerance levels of each person and what my surgery will actually entail (no adhesions, lots of adhesions, complications that could cause more pain post op). I am not located close to my doctor and I will not have anyone to drive me up there if I run out of medication before my post op appointment. No more calling in refills on controlled medications!!! I'll need the refill on paper in hand. I know I am being a worry wart, but working in the health care field, I just find this a bit odd as do other people I have spoken with who have had surgery. Thank you for your time and invaluable information on this board and website.

Hi All, Having a revision from the sleeve to by-pass on an emergency basis on Monday due to GERD. I live several hours from the hospital so my surgeon wants me to stay for couple of days in a hotel. Started packing for the hospital and have been so preoccupied that it suddenly occurred to me I will need to bring food. Not Snacks this time LOL! I will have a fridge but not a freezer and also a microwave. Can anyone here suggest what to take/buy that will help with me those first few days. I will have to bring a cooler to keep things cold on the day of surgery. Thanks for your help.

My five-year journey to gastric sleeve surgery is about to be over
NoMoBand replied to GAHUNTER's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hope all goes well for you this time around. You will find that the wait will be worth it once it's done. I couldn't be happier with the sleeve. I had lapband 5 years ago and just got revised to sleeve. What a difference! Good luck to you. jake -
Hoping I never need a revision

Met my weight loss goal!
The Candidate replied to Jeneen B's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm still in the losing stage, only 13 weeks out, so no advice to share. I just wanted to say congrats on reaching goal after revision surgery. You definitely have a lot to be proud of, and kudos for the hard work! -
Anyone having surgery in Oct ?
SleeveandRNYchica replied to Jenaenae84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be released from the hospital today. Yesterday was a bit rough. Today I am feeling much better. I have been walking and sipping. It is hard because I am just not interested in anything right now They were unsure how long my surgery would be since I am a revision patient. They said I did not have a lot of scar tissue. My doctor said I would be more sore than normal because they used some of the same entry points. As I was typing I passed GAS! I know tmi! I had a hard time going pee and was dehydrated yesterday. They fixed all that. I didn't eat much for my first meal yesterday and so they left the other stuff if I wanted to eat it. That did not happen. -
Welcome and congrats on your successful revision!
