I love the Dannon Light and Fit. I am addicted to the vanilla. For the most part Greek yogurt makes me gag (to thick and sour) but I LOVE this stuff.

Every doctor has different after fill requirements. I am supposed to do clear liquids for 3 days. I haven't made it yet so I do clear liquids for one day, full liquids the second and on the third I do all soft foods like cottage cheese and yogurt. I have a lot of trouble with swelling after a fill so I am very careful when I reintroduce foods.

I don't think I want mac and cheese anymore lol meatloaf sounds good but can't have it ugh I've been eating sweet potatoes yogurt tried some steamed colliflour mashed tasted good had mashed potatoes yesturday, I wish I can have something mushy but good cream of wheat hurts my stomach now it never did before, I'm always looking for something mushy and can't find anything, the only fish I like is tuna fish in the cans (I can have fish on mushy week) I can't believe I start solids this Saturday but I'm gonna stick to mushies. I think for breakfast I'm gonna just have yogurt, protein shake, dont know what to have for lunch, have a yogurt or protein shake, then for dinner purée whatever they're having or find something else like idk what ahh

I had my first fill since November this morning, and I'm not sure if it's because it's been so long or what, but I felt kinda tight afterwards too. Almost like I had a lump in my throat, and I had some pressure in the middle of my chest too. It's better now, and since this morning I've had two cups of water, tomato soup and plain greek yogurt with no pain or anything. I'll see how I feel tomorrow, but so far so good!

Are you getting your proteins in first? Also what type of yogurt are you eating. Alot of yogurts are high in sugar. I know we cant cut out bread all together but maybe try 1 slice instead of two. Also can you replace the pretzels (carbs) with a higher protein snack? Just some suggestions.

Call it impatience, but I was banded 5 weeks ago yesterday and I have only lost 13lbs post op and 9 preop for a total of 22 lbs weight loss. I received my second fill today. My first one was a week ago. They put 5cc in my 11cc band, and today they added 1cc. I am starving...yikes. I feel like a bottomless pit and I feel like I dont even have a band in me at all . I dont know if my birth control that I just restarted has increased my hunger or what, I am ready to feel restriction. I am not even sure what restriction feel like, but I know that I dont have it. Sorry for rambling on and on, but I am scared I wont be successful at this. You can eat hard boiled eggs, string cheese, cottage cheese, lunch meat rolled up, veges and low carb dip, salads with meat and cheese, tuna salad stuffed in a tomato, chicken salad, there is low carb yogurt, which is actually really good! There is also low carb bread, Sara Lee Delightful Wheat. You could have shrimp cocktail, fish, lobster, etc. There really are alot of options. There is a low carb thread in the food and nutrition forum, check that one out, there's alot of good ideas on there. Good luck!

Weight Loss Science??? (long boring moan!)
babsyintx replied to Bright's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Bright, Dont compare yourself to others. It is harder when you start at a higher BMI. I hear of bandsters that are able to eat 1500-2000 calories a day and still lose 1-2 pounds a week. THat is not me. I dont lose if I eat more than about 1200. It also matters what I eat. If I stay away from the carbs and focus on Protein, I lose quicker. I have hyperinsulinemia and when I look at a carb, I gain weight Also,I am aware that in Ireland, you have limited access to low carb substitutes and Snacks with reduced fat or calories. I had the same problem when I lived in the Netherlands. If I wanted specialty products (which are mostly made in the US or England) I had to pay premium dollar for them. Its really easier (in my opinion) to lose weight in the US where so many options are available for us chocolate junkies such as low carb chocolate bars sweetened with Splenda or other sugar substitutes. We even have low carb chips, low carb Pasta, sauces and other goodies that make the evil word "dieting" easier. (you wouldnt be able to tell though by the large numbers of obese in the us though!) It does seem like you could use more fill. But I will preface that by saying that sometimes more fill doesnt help you to lose the pounds unless you also do a mental adjustment. Today, I am sitting here eating 1/2 can of bumblebee tuna with lemon and some mulitgrain crackers. Total Calories: 210 Breakfast was a low carb yogurt smoothie with 13 grams of protein and 100 calories. SO today, I am back to basics. Sure, I could eat the whole can of tuna if I wanted to, and yeah what I really want is tortilla chips with cheese, but lately the tortillas are stalling my weight loss. Get some more fill, stick to a bandster portion and waterload!!!! You can do it. Some of us have easier journeys than others. I have always had to work hard at it and if I slack up, I lose my momentum and I am prone to gain if I deviate from good bandster habits. Babs in TX -
Nervous about eating...moving to soft foods
Skinny_Jill replied to steph_co's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am also nervous to try anything new on mushies. I seem to be sticking to full liquids rather than mushies. One night I did have fish and green beans. It was good but I chewed it to death. That should count as part of my exercise! LOL I eat refried beans and mashed potatoes and other than that it is still yogurt, pudding, SF popsicles, juice and broth. I am so scared I will over eat. When I first had the refried beans I did eat too much so I now I am nervous. -
Thanks all... all I have been having is tomato soup (all the nurse recommended) and Water with some crystal light mixed in. I think that may have a lot to do with it. I just called a girl that I met at my surgeon's office who was having surgery the same day and asked her how her feelings were going with all this.... she gave me some great news!! I had the diet all wrong... Where I thought I was supposed to be on Clear Liquids for the first week - it was just for the first 2 days post op and then full liquids until the 3rd week. So that opened up for me: soupy grits/oatmeal, yogurt, pudding, and anything else that can be sucked through a straw as a liquid. So the eating of the baby food bananas that I had was OK and the yogurt was OK. THANK GOD!!! because I was in tears after thinking I had screwed all this up and would have to beg to have them fix it. I am now even more proud of myself because I did clear liquids for longer than instructed. So HOPEFULLY this will help with my nay saying self on how bad I want to eat.... I will definitely be having other soup flavors and smoothies and yogurt and variety instead of feeling like I am doing something wrong... However, I so sincerely appreciate all your advice because if I had eaten the solid food or anything else I could have seriously hurt myself. (Which I already knew in the back of my mind, but refused to let it come to the fore-front)... SO THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! I can't tell you how grateful I am for your suggestions - and please keep em coming... cuz I can use all the soupy liquid suggestions I can get. Thanks, Amy

I had been having the same symptoms, but my Dr. and I think it's actually triggered by taking Zoloft. If you're on an antidepressant, one of the possible side effects is gastrointestinal issues (reflux, vomiting, etc). Zoloft and Cymbalta are the worst offenders, though I understand the other antidepressants can also cause this problem. If you're taking an antidepressent, see if your reflux/pain/vomiting follows shortly after you take your meds. If it does, bring it up with your doctor. I'm now eating yogurt with my zoloft and it has toned down the reflux significantly. However, I'm getting off the Zoloft as soon as my dr. gets back into town.

What's Eating You? bad habits are made to be broken
Lap_dancer posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
By Sally Wadyka You walk by your colleague's desk and there's that candy bowl, singing its siren song, You know better, but you just can't resist. Little detours like these can derail the best eating intentions, and the disparity between what Americans want to do and what we actually do is enormous: While 85% percent say that diet and nutrition are important to them, a 2002 report reveals that only 11 percent get the recommended daily allowance of fruits and vegetables (sorry gummy bears don't count.) So whether you're an all-day nibbler or a Breakfast skipper, try these expert strategies to transform the way you eat. "My greatest delight is to take a good bite" - Dylan Thomas, "the Song of the Mischievous Dog" How to eat healthier if… You’re a serious snacker The fallout: You may end up overeating. A healthy snack or two between meals is fine. They can keep blood sugar steady as well as allow you to rack up more servings of fruits and vegetables. “It’s when you snack in place of eating meals that you’re more likely to lose track of how much you’re eating.” Says Tara Gidus, R.D., an Orlando, Florida – based spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. Of course, what you eat matters, too. Typical snack foods (chips, Cookies, pretzels) aren’t that nutritious or satisfying, so it’s easy to overdo them. The Fix: To keep your energy up and hunger at bay, allow yourself two Snacks a day of 100 to 300 calories each. “Rather than a cookie or a candy bar, opt for something that feels like real food—half of a small sandwich, whole-grain crackers with cheese, a handful of nuts, baby carrots with hummus, or yogurt sprinkled with Cereal,” says Gidus. You’re a speed-eater The Fallout: Gulping fod may set you up for stomach troubles (PR: or a spasm of PBing) “you take in excess air, which can lead to bloating.” Says Leslie Bonci, R.D., director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh medical Center. You also might not be chewing well. Saliva begins to break food down, and too little time in the mouth leaves more work for the rest of the digestive track. This may contribute to indigestion, says Ellie Krieger, R.D. host of the Food Network’s healthy Appetite. Finally, speed eating doesn’t give the brain time to catch up to the stomach; it needs atleast 20 minutes to get the message that your stomach is full. A recent study found that women who ate a meal in 30 minutes ate 10% fewer calories compared with those who wolfed one down in barely 10. The Fix: Try to slow down. Avoid finger foods, and instead choose items you have to put on a plate and eat with utensils, such as stir fries and salads. Pause often, and drink Water throughout meals.( PR: in the case of our fellow bandsters do not drink 30 minutes before or after your meal) You eat your way out of a bad mood The Fallout: It may be soothing in the moment, but feeding your fears and frustrations, instead of confronting them, can lead to a cycle of more bad moods as well as steady weight gain. Many people turn to carbohydrates, in particular, which produce tryptophan, a type of amino acid that is used by the brain to manufacture serotonin. When the brain makes more serotonin, your mood improves, but only temporarily, says Judith Wurtman, Ph.D., a coauthor of The Serotonin Power Diet (Rodale Books). The Fix: Stop to think about what’s bothering you before reflectively opening the cupboard. Then try a nonfood mood booster, such as taking a walk, seeing a movie, or calling a friend. If nothing but carbs will do, get the serotonin boost without triggering a binge, says Gidus. Opt for a whole-grain treat so atleast you get more Fiber and less sugar. Healthy rehabilitation ideas: “We started stocking some of the jars in our office with organic fruit instead of candy. So now I grab a plum, an orange…” “Every Sunday night I boil eggs. I eat one every day for breakfast during the week. I can eat it on the go, and it’s a good way to get some protein…” “Whenever I have party leftovers, I send them home with the guests so I can’t binge..” -
what were u eating 3-4 weeks post op?
obtech89117 replied to charlimc's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello! I was on liquids for 3 weeks, then I progressed to yogurt, cream of wheat and lots of soups! I then started adding salads and chicken. I am 10 months out post-op and pretty much still eat alot of soups. I try to make them homemade and then blend them into a thicker consistency. I also do alot of chili and beans. If I go out I usually just order an appetizer or I share with my hubby. My favorite snack is kettle popcorn. My best advice is to always eat slow and chew chew chew! If I get overly hungry and dont go slow, that is when I run into trouble. I also wait 30-45 min. to drink after a meal, it can be pretty scary and painful if not! Best of luck to you in your new lapband journey! -
Carla: My first 48 hours were clear liquids, then plain(meaning milky, I guess) liquids through 2 weeks, then mushies. My mushies list includes grits, cream of wheat, oatmeal, tuna, salmon, deli-sliced meats, yogurt, soft veggies and soft cheese. I see the P.A. on Wednesday this week. I don't know if I'll get a "FILL" or not, but I will be asking quite a few questions for clarification. (Things I didn't know to ask BEFORE surgery!) When I get full, or if I drink a swig of water with a "dry" food (like tuna), I get that "HEAVY" feeling in my chest as well. Yes, I think that's a full feeling. It's not the same as before surgery when I would just overeat, but I think that's our "signal" now that we're banded. I am getting hungrier every day now. I guess that means I'm healing pretty well. I'm nervous over the thought of my first "FILL", but I also want to be more satisfied when I eat. I'm also frustrated because if I eat more than 800 cal/day I don't lose weight. SIGH. But, with all the help here on LBT, I'll get by. The worst is over....it's easier every day, I promise. We're on our way to a better life. Nanster:biggrin1:

Gallstones or bad gas or constipation?
barbara465 replied to tipper's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was extremely constipated for 4 days. Rolling stomach pains and contradtractions when on the john. Finally, DH got me an enema. That helped. I started eating Activia for 3 days and now regular. It says to eat one a day for two weeks and it guarantees you to get regular. Its in the yogurt section. When I tried the benefiber tablets I think that made it worse. Try this first and see if you can get unclogged. -
Stretched or not, all i know is that if i eat really dense proteins like eggs, tuna, sausages, chicken, etc. . . i have sooooo much restriction. . . for example today i only had the following, 2 poached eggs for breakfast, 1.5 oz of chedder cheese at about 2:30pm and 1 piece of fish (tail end) for dinner. . .for a snack i had greek yogurt with 1 scoop of protein powder. . . i feel like i'll never need to eat ever again I am soooooooooooo full. . .and with that being said and at 14 months out, i think i'm still doing pretty darn good with restriction. . .

If you don't like either, just keep with the yogurt and smoothies for bfast. Cream of wheat and grits might keep you full longer. My cream of wheatralso included pureed scrabmled eggs, blended cottage cheese.........those might be options. (no oatmeal or seeds yet though)

A better choice would be Healthy Choice frozen Greek yogurt. Low sugar, low fat, and 4gr protein. After surgery it's even more important to avoid empty calories - we can eat so little we really need to make every bite count. I go for anything w/protein - the more the better. And I like that it comes in little hoodsie-cup sized cups. I eat one and done. No chance of eating more than the single serving.

I love granola and thought about puttin some in my yogurt as a meal. But I'm worried about the carbs
