October List of Surgery's
Mogwaicat replied to 60&goin4it's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll share the most bizarre thing I've done so far. I -really- wanted a taco, or at least something spicy. I put taco seasoning in plain Greek yogurt. A few tablespoons hit the spot, and I bet it would taste awesome on chicken. -
Found a great new alternative to ice cream!
KarenLoh replied to MzB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Frozen blueberries in bowl, covered with nonfat vanilla yogurt (that then freezes on to the blueberries). Within a few minutes it is a frozen yummy delight. I pass three ice cream or frozen custard stores on my way home and the thought of this treat waiting for me gets me driving right by them. That and the frozen custard made me throw up the first time I tried it post-sleeve. Too much fat I think. Frozen blueberries and yogurt rule! -
I am NOT a cooker either. I just posted this elsewhere but here goes anyway... Low fat refried Beans. I had 4 ounce containers I would put them in and just microwave them for 40 seconds and maybe put a little bit of low fat shredded cheese (sometimes, I really couldn't taste it so often left it off). This was warm and savory instead of sweet and made me very happy in the evenings. Good Protein. lunch would be low fat Greek yogurt. Also high in protein. I can't do cottage cheese and eggs didn't sit really well either so these were my mainstays.

Tomorrow marks one week post op! Purée food ideas?
KarenLoh replied to Whynotnow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Refried Beans were my favorite thing. I looked forward to them all day and that was my supper. I still like them and eat them once in a while when I don't have anything else prepared. Greek yogurt was a fav too and I still eat that daily. -

I am moving into pureed consistency foods this weekend. Tofu is a good source of protein. The silky tofu can be added to shakes. The firm and extra firm can be marinated, pan seared, among other ways of cooking. I will be using tofu, tuna, homemade chicken (soaked in buttermilk at least overnight to keep it very tender), refried beans and unflavored protein powder for my protein sources. I will try eggs a few different ways (poached seems to have the highest success rate among sleevers) and hope I can tolerate them. I'll also be using Greek yogurt, applesauce (with the protein powder, and cottage cheese. I plan to make a sandwich paste (like chicken or tuna salad but pureed) and include flavor from onions, pickles, etc. I plan to use salsa with cooking as well for some added flavor. Maybe some plain Greek yogurt for some flavor and protein too. -

I've had some trouble with this... Wish they had a bariatric setting, lol... I have been ignoring fats because I am just eating the usual safe bariatric foods for my stage, but will pay more attention to that when I branch out more, food-wise. I set my protein to 68... I was told to get at least 60g of protein a day and I have read between 60-80, so I just randomly picked 68. I set my sugars to 32. I've learned that anything more than 8g of sugar per meal makes me start to "dump" (I hate that word, btw), so i figure no more than 8g x 4 meals, so 32g a day. I just generally watch my carbs because they often fall in line with sugars (but not always!). My doctor kept his advice pretty simple... get in your protein, preferably shakes and plant proteins (he is a vegetarian, lol), and be careful of your sugars. I have trouble with meats now anyway, can not seem to chew beef and ckn very well, so i have been eating a lot of legumes, seeds, etc... He is big on "legumes"! Some of my favorite things... -The Good Bean salted chickpeas -Salted pumpkin seeds -Trader Joe's coffee cold concentrate (I mix with Carbmaster Milk (kroger) or fairlife milk over ice and sometimes add Unjury unflavored protein powder to it). The concentrate is easy and almost 70% less acidic than regular coffee. I have trouble with reg coffee now -Prosciutto wrapped mozzarella sticks dipped in Rao's or Mario Batali marinara sauce (both of them have low sugars) -Simple Mills muffin and bread mixes (had to order these online, but they contain all the stuff that I would use if i made mixes at home... almond flour, cauliflower, etc. low sugar/carbs Just made the pumpkin muffin and i have one each morning! -Practically the only thing I am really jonesing for is pizza... i've made the chicken crust pizza and, while it is good, i am not sure that will cut it for me all the time. regular pizza is out, but simple mill's makes a low carb/sugar pizza crust that I am going to make this weekend... hopefully is is good! -trader joe's sugar free choc covered almonds -diet snapple k-cup lemon iced tea -i'm sick of protein shakes, but i still have premier protein vanilla once a day to get in my protein for the day -I can not get on board with protein bars (quest are supposedly the best for us). I have a stockpile of quest but have only been interested in them when I am out and about and have nothing else. -oikos triple zero yogurt is AWESOME.. tons of protein and taste good, i am jsut tired of the flavors and wish there was more variety. -heb carries the Enlightened brand ice cream bar... i LOVE chocolate mint! only 5 sugars and it has 7 grams of protein! low fat and high fiber... awesome!!! -
2 carbmaster yogurts with a packet of unjury chocolate splendor...220 calories and 30+ grams of protein...tastes like ice cream to me if i put it in the freezer for 30 mins

Birthday food suggestions
Blue1213 replied to Katsitsyahawe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery 3 weeks before my birthday. My family took me to a frozen yogurt shop. I could only eat a tiny amount but it felt like a celebration and a birthday treat. -
My preference is making my own using Syntrax Nectur w/ yogurt and/or frozen fruit & Silk milk. I keep Premier Protein shakes in my refrigerator so if I'm in a hurry I can just grab one & go. I order Premier Protein from their website. You can get a pack of 18 which you can't get from Costco. I get my Syntrax Nectur from Amazon or The Vitamin Shoppe.

Meal Plans and Nutrionist Vs Paperwork
kyear posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, my surgery was yesterday morning. I was released from the hospital today, and before I left my Nutrionist came to see me. She told me that I could have mashed potatoes, yogurt, cottage cheese, and 1 caffeinated coffee per day. However my paperwork she gave me doesn't say that. I'm still on Clear liquids diet and she knows this. What do I follow? I haven't had issues yet with throwing anything up. I'm terrified to throw anything up because it hurts so much to cough and sneeze. Can someone please tell me how painful it is to have to throw up? And suggestions on what my Nutrionist said vs the paperwork she gave me? Kylie -
A friends WLS post op diet plan is causing a great bit of a WHOA! for me!
SweetPotato replied to Stevehud's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My plan is 2 days liquids, 2 weeks modified liquids (sugar free pudding, low fat yogurt, blended and strained soups, etc), then two months soft foods (tuna salad, scrambled eggs, soft veggies, etc) then regular stuff. And never any protein drinks or bars. Surgeons have different plans... -
So I had my sleeve done on Oct. 14 of this year. I had my two week follow up last Friday. That day they said I could start on 1/4 c to 1/2 c soft foods for dinner with protein shakes for breakfast and lunch. The first couple days I was lucky if I managed 2 tbsp. gradually I made my way to 1/4 c. But today all of a sudden I am sooo hungry. Yes I know a lot of it could be head hunger but it's not all mental. I am really hungry. I are dinner about an hour and a half ago. 2 oz grilled chicken, tbsp refried beans and 1 tsp plain yogurt. All approved food. I'm still hungry. Is this common with others? Advice? Also I hit the stall I heard about in weight loss. After losing 43 lbs I haven't lost anything this week. But good news haven't gained either. Just looking for words of comfort. If someone else has experienced this or the hunger will pass. Anything I guess.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?
Daisydawn34 replied to Jenaenae84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8 days post op I was progressed to full liquids. I lost 14 lb since surgery. I know it's completley irrational i am worried about the calories I'm taking in from full liquids. I've tried a yogurt cream of wheat and butternut squash soup as that is allowed. In my head I don't want to eat them because I'm afraid I won't lose weight. It's crazy cause I know I need new nutrition. It doesn't help that I have no appetite -
Maybe Greek yogurt is what you want for a while. There are dozens of different flavors and many are 80-90 calories for a nice sized bowl that still has 12+ grams of Protein. There are enough different brands and flavors of Greek yogurt that it's not likely you'll get burned out on it like most of us do with Protein shakes.

I need help with the clear liquid diet...I cant stand any kind of the store bought broth...any tips on what to use. Ive just been drinking water gatorade orange juice coffee eating sugar free jello and fat free vanilla yogurt. uuuuuggg.
-
OJ is not a clear liquid. Neither is yogurt. Your list sounds more like "full liquids". I had issues with store bought broth as well, but for me it is the sodium. My ankles turn into tree trunks if I have too much salt.
-
When I was on clear liquids I bought broth from au bon pain or Panera. Tasted FAR better then canned.

thanks everyone....Im down 6 lbs and i want my favorite food, BUT.....Im not turning back. Surgery in 3 days....

No it won't stretch you stomach. Next time start with just 1 egg. I was full on 1 egg made with a tiny bit of cheese and greek yogurt to keep them moist for a really long time.

A friends WLS post op diet plan is causing a great bit of a WHOA! for me!
BLERDgirl replied to Stevehud's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That does sound a bit fast. I've heard of people being transitioned to food quickly, but more along the lines of yogurts and soft foods. My transition was 2 weeks all liquids,>2 weeks purees >2 weeks soft foods. I could probably have done cooked veg that first week. I would encourage your friend to have another conversation with their nutritionist and discuss alternatives to ground beef. -
Just had a weird experience?
TMG1980TMG replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1/4 cup of the cashew "ice cream" I had was 8g of sugar similar to light and fit Greek yogurt that doesn't affect me... Never know! I am kinda glad I get dumping syndrome, but when it happens it sucks! -
DILATED ESOPHAGUS LAP BAND REMOVAL
CowgirlJane replied to crustymouse23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No, worse eating habits were ingrained during my band years. It was easier to eat chips over whole grain bread It was easier to eat carby food over dense Protein I often felt like my tummy was on fire when I was hungry, so i developed a frozen yogurt/ice cream habit as it was the only thing that soothed me (dummy me, didn't realize it was band induced reflux) I had to reset how I ate big time. -
August surgery updates-where are you now?
sharkgirl replied to ptsmile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 8/31 and finally doing really good. It was discovered 4 days post surgery that I have hypoglycemia so the first couple of weeks were rough and then I had terrible nausea until about week 6. I am adjusting to my new pouch and learning what I can tolerate and what I can't. Not really eating carbs except yogurt, fruit and veggies. Still struggle to eat some meats, mostly because my taste bud. My doctor said the hormone release can mimic pregnancy for about 3 months and was sick the whole 9 months I was pregnant with both kids. I didn't like meat when I was pregnant too. I've lost 36 pounds and am down 2 pants sizes but much more on the top. People are definitely noticing and asking lots of questions. My standard answer is I'm on a strict diet and workout a lot; both of which are too. I've started strength training again, going back to yoga and my stamina while I work out is returning. Life is pretty good and finally don't regret my surgery. -
Day 1 of 2 week Liquid Diet
less_of_me2see replied to rking's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 2 was easier than day 1. My surgeon has me on the optifast diet. I drink 3 protein shakes a day, I get 1 protein soup (tomato or creamy chicken) 1 protein bar (yummy chocolate) and one small lowfat dairy item ( Greek yogurt or cottage cheese) along with all the broth, sugar free jello, sugar free Popsicles, herbal tea and water I want. I don't feel like its much of a diet but its only 900 calories -
Worried I can't do the pre-op diet!
tmcx28 replied to Castillo15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same fears. I start my liquid diet on the 21st so I've decided to ease myself in to it and I'm starting now replacing my breakfast with a shake, eating cottage cheese or yogurt for a snack, I'm hoping this helps make it easier for me. -
Hi...I am 62 years old, sleeved at 58 years old and I just had my 4 year surgiversary. I reached my goal weight of 139 exactly one year after being sleeved (lost 84 lbs) and have been at goal for 3 years with a bounce of a couple of lbs up and down. My daily diet now is about 1300 calories that I eat, or 1600 if I have wine which I do several nights a week. I usually have Greek yogurt with fruit and a little granola for breakfast, or my favorite corn crackers (not rice crackers!) with cheese or salmon. Lunch is always a small salad with 2 corn crackers. Except for Monday and Thursdays (my NO WINE NO COOKIE DAYS) I always have a coffee and a cookie in the afternoon. Dinner is chicken, fish, maybe meat but not so much, and a vegetable. More if we are entertaining. If I gain some weight I do the 5:2 diet for a week. (If you don't know it, just Google it). Hope that helps! I love my sleeve and I love my life.

Are you eventually able to eat anything?
Kindle replied to heidikate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did mostly protein and veggies while losing but never completely gave up fruits and whole grains. Stayed away from the white carbs while I was losing. Once I hit goal I loosened up my restrictions and at this point pretty much know what I can eat without gaining. I eat every 2-3 hours but stop before I get full. If I do pop over my bounce range after an especially carb heavy vacation or holiday I just do a couple days of "preop liquid diet" and/or protein/veggie basics and it comes back off. I guess I do keep track of my fluids in my head and get 64-80+ oz in every day. As for protein, I eat a Quest bar and drink a protein smoothie every day. That's 40-50g protein right there so it's not hard to know I'm exceeding 60g with all the protein rich foods I eat. For example, besides my quest bar and protein smoothie, today I had turkey Jerky, Greek yogurt with Kashi go lean Cereal, a banana, some peanuts, cheesy chicken corn chowder, quest chips with Avocado and garlic salsa, Brussel sprouts, two Hershey kisses and a mini twix from the Halloween candy jar.
