2 1/2 weeks out from surgery. Food ideas please!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to ChattyChatterton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved April 20. In addition to what you listed: protein soup (ProtiDiet), V8, protein pudding, applesauce, green beans, yogurt, refried beans and cheese. This week I get to add soft fish so I had some grilled salmon tonight at a cookout. -
I was banded feb 6, 2012 and it took me about a month in a half to get rid of all the pain around the prot area. I relayy think it depends on each individual person. Some peoples bodys have a harder time accepting foreign objects than others..mine had a very hard time with it! Im ten weeks out and the only time i have trouble now is if i wear jeans that are to tight and push in on my port area. But its nothing extreme, its just uncomfortable. So i just dont wear those pants and dont have any problems lol! But like i said i think you will be fine before long. I was very concerned and even called my doctor multiple times asking if it was normal. He had me take tylenol ever 6 hours and that helped tremendously!

Pictures Of My Nearly 70Lb Loss In Under 5 Months!
Yukon Kara posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I started my pre-surgery diet on October 1st and was sleeved on October 19th. I started at 319lbs and was 308 at surgery. Today, I am now 252lbs and feeling amazing! I cannot imagine what life will be like in another 50lbs. I just had my four month sleeve anniversary and I think I am still in shock at how well this is all working out for me. I have also celebrating four weeks of strength training at the gym three times a week! Plus I have been out to play squash with a friend twice this month. Amazing energy right now! I am taking in 900 calories a day. My focus is on Protein mainly through natural sources other than one Protein Drink first thing in the morning. I take in 80 grams of protein a day and try and keep my carbohyrdates healthy and low. Three meals a day with two Snacks and rarely do I eat after my supper in the evening. Life with a sleeve is great! Here I am the day before surgery at 308lbs: And here I am this weekend at 252lbs: -
TMF, I am so far behind those that had their surgery in January 2014 I can't figure out why I can't seem to lose anymore than 2 or 4 lbs every 4 weeks...I am so frustrated. You still inspire me, so thanks!!!

I was banded in December and had 2 fills. The 2nd fill was in April and I have been fine for awhile but in the past 2 weeks I've been having problems. I can eat very little food, sometimes no food. At times I can't drink, and I have brought up fluids twice. I'm really bad in the morning but also at night. I also get really bad pain in my esophagus and also in my stomach. When i drink i get these funny croaking noises in my throat. Sometime the pain is awhile after I eat or drink. I called and made an appt. with my Dr., they couldn't fit me in until next week, but I'm wondering if I should take it more serious. Anyone have any idea what it might be?

When Did You Start Taking Vitamins?
Newfoundlove replied to luvs2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon had me start multi-vitamins after three days, and B-12 (sublingual) about five days after that. They are chewable biatric vitamins. I also started powder form calcium citrate which I added to my water in the morning. When I started purees I also added a chewable Iron, and B-12 vitamin at lunch time. I'm four weeks out and this week started adding back in Vitamin D, Zinc and Biotin, since they are small. I still cut the Zinc though as those tablets are still a little large for me to get down at once. I want to add in the Fish Oil and Evening Primrose Oil but those capsules are pretty large and I can't cut them or chew them so I'm still waiting to get clearance from my surgeon for those. Other than chewable vitamins, I would check with your doctor to determine when you can take them. -
Day 4 post op ...still struggling
Karess Haivala replied to Rosie77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know it's rough at first, but hang in there! I'm three months post op and I have no regrets. I didn't have the spasms that I have read other sleevers suffered through, but I did have some big issues with bowel movements. From my vantage point, I am so happy I did it and I wish you nothing but the best. Follow the dr's orders...water water and more water. I'm at the point now where I have no hunger, and I make sure I eat enough every day. It gets better! -
Once the insurance is approved or when you finish your requirements in hopes of the insurance is approved? I noticed some peoples are two weeks away or even a month away. I'm sure it's different for everyone but I'd like a general idea please. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Enlarged spleen, low red & white blood cell counts.
Pookeyism posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved in January of '12. I've had ups and downs but nothing that you could point to and say it's related to the sleeve. Normally I'm active. I teach yoga for plus sizes, work, etc. In the summer of '16 (as far as I can guess a time) I began to feel fatigue. It was easy to become frustrated, I would forget small things. I had to get prescription glasses in August. I had at least three "colds" from October to January. January 24th I was admitted to the hospital from the ER due to excessive abdomen and chest pain, fever, headache & nausea. They found I had an enlarged spleen, a "blockage" in my intestinal tract, and of most concern my red and white blood cell counts are really low. I was depleted in magnesium, Iron, B Vitamins and potassium. I hadn't even noticed but my left leg which had been slightly bigger than my right for over a year now is now, minimally closer to 4" in diameter larger in the calf, more on the thigh. I've had test after test after test, the results are still coming in. I've been in the hospital a week and I'm feeling better than when I was admitted to be certain. That's not really saying much unfortunately. My question is not to ask anyone to diagnose me. I do wonder if anyone else has experienced these symptoms. What it was, etc. Mention to my doctor that someone else with the sleeve experienced x,y,z, etc. Thank you for your time! Sent from my A0001 using the BariatricPal App -
I believe "good carbs" are necessary in limited quantities. You want to get them from whole grains, fruit, veggies, dairy. Glucose (what your body easily turns carbs into) is the only nutrient your brain can use. Personally, I walk a middle ground between very low carb and what my nut says (she says 130 carbs a day). I take in about 60 carbs a day and have pretty steadily been loosing 2-3 pounds a week. Find what works for you. I believe calories in and calories out is the main issue as far as weight loss. Best wishes on your journey!

You need to appeal. The last poster is right that they are deny lots of people right now especially if you are borderline. I am 106 pounds over with hypertension, arthritis, sleep apnea, depression and Crohn's disease and I was deny last week. I just resent my appeal in yesterday and right now it says that it is pending review. I sent in 15 pages of documentations along with letters from all my doctors' stating this surgery was needed. Plus I gathered information on how much it was costing them monthly for me to remain on the medication. I was successfully able to prove that they spend over $40,000.00 a year just on my medciation. Send in a appeal. Show them that you are serious.:scared2:

Struggling with staph infection before surgery...rant
Long2BFree posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the doc 10 days ago because my calf was bright red, swollen and hurting. Turns out I have a staph infection and am on 2 antibiotics. Well, I have another appointment this morning because it has gotten better but is not 100% gone. Now I have a rash on my leg and in my trunk area, a yeast infection and diarreha from the meds along with a constant headache from one of the meds. One of the worse things is that I'm eating more than usual because I get naseated if I don't have food in my tummy from the meds and I've gained 6 lbs since my visit with the surgeon a week ago. I'm also trying to eat 4 oz of yogurt 4x a day to help with the yeast. Grrr... I just hope this gets cleared so I can have my surgery in 3 weeks. I guess I should start a blog so I can rant on there... -
I'm two weeks out and still find myself falling asleep around 1:00 in the afternoon. I'm on all liquids, though, and it's worse if I slack on drinking protein or water. Then I'm really tired!

My band has seemed very tight in he last week. I've got 4cc in it. Am scheduled to go to surgeon on Thursday. Will not be getting a fill. I've read others have a right band during hot weather? I can't think what else could be causing it. I'm not having problems but have to be very very careful and chew tons. (This is new in the past week). So I'm guessing it's the weather or a very delayed response to my last fill 4 weeks ago.

curious where other ppl are at around 3.5 mths out
sharonintx replied to NicoleLpn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery just short of 4 months ago. Have lost 32 pounds. I seem to be losing about a pound a week although some weeks it nothing and some weeks a pound and a half. -
I'm six days post-op and I think I finally turned a corner. While the pain from the "big" incision still hurts pretty bad, it has become tolerable. The gas/bloating seems to be subsiding, and the cramping I had after swallowing seems to be going away (though not completely - it's just not as bad and less frequent, but still super painful when it does happen). I also haven't had a normal BM, but I have been "productive", which I guess is better than what I've read some of you have gone thru. In other words, no constipation! So, I guess my question now is, when does this damn weight start disappearing??? LOL!!! I'm still having a bit of trouble getting all my fluids in (up to about 40oz. water, one 11oz. protein shake and various SF popsicles, pudding, yogurt, soup, etc.), and have zero appetite. That said, while I'm not the least bit hungry, I'm starting to crave the taste of certain things. Now it's like my tastebuds are on extra high alert! Is this normal? Does it go away? I've never had food issues before and I hope this doesn't trigger something. Anyway, now that I'm feeling better, I'm looking forward to LOOKING better! Almost everything I've read, either a post or an article says the weight will literally start "falling off". I really hope that's true. I've come this far, and I can't even imagine this not working. I'm still 1# heavier than I was the day of surgery, so I'm chalking that up to the last bit of air and fluids they pumped into me. 🤞 The weather here is supposed to be super hot & humid all week, so I don't know how much walking I'll get in, but I plan to be up & about around the house...doing housework or whatever else I can to keep active. Thank you all SO MUCH for all the kind and supportive words. It really does mean a lot! 🤗 P.S. Downside of pain meds... Norco makes me HYPER (as opposed to sleepy or loopy). It's now 1:00am CT and I'm wide-the-flip awake... 4 hours past my bedtime! Argh!

Anyone else stop enjoying food?
areellady replied to AdaBell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think many of us go through this phase of not being hungry and food not looking appetizing. Enjoy this stage in your band journey. It is such a wonderful time to realize that food does not need to be a part of every single moment of your life. You can go without food right now because of the swelling around you stomach. I was told this exact same thing three months ago and it was so true. I now have an appetite, but back then, I really thought that I would never want food again. -
I'm 3 weeks post op and have no energy at all. I know it takes awhile to get it back but id like to know how my levels are looking. My surgeon doesn't do bloodwork till a year post op. I see my PCP on the 14th to go over meds and I think I'm going to request that he check my levels of everything.

Sticher out today! Yeah! I feel really good!
krystalherrington posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So surprised at how well I feel, bored, but good. I'm getting the staples out today and hopefully will not fell like such a prisoner. I have had ZERO tolerance problems. (rebelled and had a bite of my husbands scrambles eggs. No problem). Sticking to the blended program for about another 4 weeks and then good to go. I'm having one problem... I hope I know when I'm full. I feel like I'm always wanting more at the moment. Thank all for this forum it has been beyond helpful!!! -
