    High Ferritin

how high is it? Mine is almost always above the normal range, and the surgeon just shrugs. I guess it depends on HOW high it is. I'll check my chart and update this in a minute well, the last three years it's been 69, 111, and 205. I'm pretty sure it's been over 200 in earlier years - I'll check. OK. For some reason, only the last three years were on the graph - but I manually looked back on my chart for earlier years. It was always over 200 until I hit that 69 in 2019 - which was surprising because it'd always been in the 200s. But it started going up again in 2020 (to that 111 reading) - and now back in the 200s. High end of the range for women is 200 - so mine usually runs a little above normal. They never said anything about it, so.. if they feel yours is too high, they'll probably have you cut back on your iron supplementation
  2. Anyone have high ferritin on lab work? What did you have to do? Just wondering because my doctors appointment is a few weeks away.

    A stall already?

I am 18 months post-op and have had several stalls. It’s quite common, and can happen at any time.

    My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

So I’m at the point where my hormones are definitely starting to change. I’m irritable and really seeing the fact that I have zero support from my mom or sister and that I’m in this alone. All I want to do today is chew on something- I think we all have this day. It has nearly been 3 weeks since I have had any sort of real food and I’m emotional about it. My mother does this thing where she takes all of her calls on speaker phone even when watching tv with someone else. This morning she was talking to her friend about the dinner her friend was making for some dinner party. This afternoon she and my sister were talking about what each of them was going to have for dinner- and it’s not even that I’m hungry- it’s just the thought of being able to chew real food sounds so good.

    Nederlands gastric sleeve

  6. I will be going to the doctor February 7. I really hope you feel better. What does your doctor say? I was the same the first 2 weeks. I couldn't even keep pain medication or vitamins down. A stall already?

Most everybody gets the infamous Week 3 Stall. You're lucky it waited until Week 10. It might last a month or longer, so don't lose hope and just keep doing what you're doing and this too shall pass, I promise.
  8. I am 9-days from my surgery date. I am set to start the 7-day liquid diet on Tuesday, but I'm starting tomorrow. I do better when I start fresh for the week. I am very anxious about this next week, any advice?

COMPLETELY fallen off the wagon :(

This TOTALLY happened to me! The good news is that the wagon is still there. You’re WORTH it!!!! Don’t give up. Stop/drop/roll - call your dietician immediately! 🙂. I waited 3 months because I was embarrassed. Had my 1 year surgery follow up. Was so nervous - I put myself in a total panic and broke down crying. The surgeon kindly laughed and was like you LOST 97 Pounds - that’s 77.8% of your EWL. He explained that EWL is the Excess Weight Loss. Ask for your percentage. He said that as a surgeon, they anticipate/ hope that in 18 months you lose 75%. The dietician came in who I’ve been in amazing contact with until I stalled. I was embarrassed. I haven’t lost a pound in 3 months. We talked - came up with a solution and it’s working. They see this ALL the time. It’s not a personal failure. They will help if you ask- I promise. You’ve got this!!!!! You’re amazing and so is your body!!!! Everyone’s journey is different. Have you heard of Unjury? They have an amazing viritual support group and bring in incredible professionals to chat about stuff like this. register for the Wednesday nights (you can do both - but Wednesday night is for post op) - https://unjury.com/newsletters/join-the-best-support-group-now-for-best-results/ You’ll see me there - Christina B. Say ‘hi’- you’ll feel so loved and supported. You’re not alone in this!

    A stall already?

most people get that stall at or around the three-week mark - so it's late for you. Don't do anything besides stick to your program and stay off the scale (only weigh yourself once a week or so until you get through this). It'll break and you'll be on your way again. Since they typically last 1-3 weeks, you're likely near the end of it.
  11. I am 10weeks post op. I have been strict about measuring my food, getting my protein/vitamins and I workout 4 days a week. I have been stuck at 189 for 3 weeks and I'm feeling like I'm failing. I have been thinking about going back down to 2oz of protein per meal but I'm really trying to avoid unhealthy choices. Idk what to do. I have another 40lbs to my goal and I'm terrified I won't make it [emoji17][emoji17]. Sent from my GM1917 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Anyone in MINNESOTA?

I have severe GERD also, which is why I chose RNY gastric bypass. I don’t have a surgery date yet. I have 5 appointments scheduled in the next two weeks (dietitian, exercise PT, Psych eval, upper GI). You’re so lucky to get the Mayo Clinic. I’m nervous that as I’m getting all these important steps done, the hospital decides to pause elective surgeries. I just heard that Allina canceled WLS for three months!

My husband doesn't want me to have surgery

Hope all went well! My husband of 20 years, been together almost 21 years, was nit supportive of it at all but once he knew it was happening like it or not he became better. He stayed with me the entire time at the hospital and took a week off to take care of me. He isnt thrilled with the scars from the surgery but other than that he is beyond what i could have hoped for from him in support now. I like what Tek said, the strong relationships get stronger and i believe that ti be true. He is my best friend as well as my spouse and i feel we are stronger than we have ever been.
  14. The primary doc I had at the time of my vsg was totally against it, at first but wasn't supportive either. I saw her in the hallway at the hospital the day after surgery and she said"you know you didn't really need the surgery". I'm not sure what my current primary thinks about my upcoming surgery but I'll find out when I go in for my pre-op physical in 2 weeks. This surgery (conversion to bypass) is necessary because of damage done by reflux so she can't really say much. I had another endoscopy done yesterday and the report noted the need for surgical intervention to fix the reflux. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

COMPLETELY fallen off the wagon :(

Life happens, we get complacent, say tomorrow I’ll get back on track, ... I’d say many of us would put our hand up & say yep, we’ve been where you are in some way or another. Knowing why you’re not losing is the first step. Making the changes is the next step. Even making one change today is a start. I agree with the posters above: get back onto your plan & track, meet your protein & fluid goals, watch portion sizes & calories. Make an appointment with your dietician too. Have to admit I was surprised that you only have an annual check up with your surgeon & you’re not even a year post surgery & not at goal. I know all surgeons are different but I still see my surgeon or his support doctor every three months (though as I approach my three yr anniversary we’re trying 4 months). Still have regular blood tests too. Maybe ask for more frequent appointments with your surgeon & dietician. They are supposed to be there to support & encourage you & ensure you’re keeping healthy. All the best.

    Pregnancy

I see post on here almost weekly about people getting pregnant soon after surgery. Saw one a couple weeks ago that they were only like a month out. Try using the search box at the top of the page and type in Pregnant. It will show you a bunch of topics regarding it. Some info for you until some people reply to this post Good luck.
  17. Great to hear! keep up the good work. I have worked with a trainer in the past but prefer to just do the workouts on my own. You will learn the exercises and how to mix it up on your own. I go to Planet Fitness- only $10/month and personal training is free if you want it. I have been consistently weightlifting at least 5 days per week since late Summer/Fall of 2021 after fully recovering from gall bladder removal and I think it has made a great difference in how my clothes fit, how my arms/legs/stomach skin looks and how I feel overall.

    My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

OFFICIALLY ONE WEEK PAST SURGERY TODAY!! Things are going ok today. However I’m noticing it’s easier to drink liquid in the morning than later in the day. Water is still the easiest thing to consume. I tried yoghurt today- not good. I got very nauseous and immediately stopped. My larger incision is still painful- but getting better. My energy levels are a lot lower than they have been- I’ve done less walking today. But reminding my self that I’m only a week out and healing still. I’m focusing on getting protein in and hitting my liquids. I’ve added unflavored protein to soups, and mixing my protein drink with milk just to do what I can to boost it.
  20. Hello all, I am new to this group. I had Gastric sleeve done 11/22/2021. This was strongly recommended by my pulmonologist who says my pulmonary hypertension, CHF, and chronic hypoxic respiratory failure are all due to my weight. I’ve lost 20lbs since surgery date which I feel like is very slow. I am struggling with my obsession of food. Trying to maintain healthy diet for the most part (it’s hard sometimes when we eat out). I’m exercising 3 times a week for 1 1/2 hours at a time (I’m on oxygen and have to go to rehab place where they can measure my oxygen levels). I also struggle with night eating which causes me a lot of stress (would love to hear if anyone else struggles with this). Glad I found this group and excited to connect with others here on this forum. p.s. my surgeon is Vinay Goyal of Lubbock but his name doesn’t appear in list of surgeons.
  21. Well it is slow and steady, so hanging there 😂 Almost end of month 2 and I think I'll end up losing about 10 to 11 pounds this month. It's slow compared to others but I think it's fine. It could be because I had lost almost 25 pounds before surgery. Post surgery it'll be another 28 to 29ish. So I think I am getting there. Only 1 major stall for about 2 to 3 weeks and it's going down little by little, so I think it's nice 😂 Have a follow up appt on Feb 1st, so will figure out if any dietary changes are needed. That makes sense. I think RYN it's lesser than that. Though I completely forgot to ask my surgeon how much was mine. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ LMFAO 🤣🤣 Weird, bizarre and all sorts of crazy. Well then, may be it's time you ought to say "Hi" to them 🤣

    Stomach Pain

What kind of vitamins & what time of day do you take them? Start a journal of when you eat, take vitamins & when you feel any of those things. I’m nauseous about 3-4 days a weeks. I buy meclizine on Amazon ($14.99/3 bottles of 100 pills) & keep them with me I had my RNY almost 4 years ago.
  23. I was told not to eat any red meat until 6 months out. I miss vegis too I made myself a green smoothie today with baby spinach, baby kale, baby chard, apple, carrot, wild frozen blueberries, and so sugar free body armor tropical coconut - just 1/2 a bottle. Of course protein powder. I made enough i put some away for tomorrow. I feel like my brain doesnt work right since the surgery the past week im hoping this will help
  24. Thanks to my fellow WLS pals for responding. I have been getting more prepared for surgery (in FIVE DAYS!) and have what I need for the first several weeks at home and ready to go. I am not as afraid of post-surgery pain as I am about having a pretty big surgery at 55 y/o. I know that's not crazy old but it's not 20's or 30's anymore either. I am praying to put it all in God's Hands and Trust in Him.

COMPLETELY fallen off the wagon :(

This has happened to others. Part of the human condition is that we often fail. You should not feel shame that you haven't lost more weight. Shame related to weight is counter productive. The pouch reset, of course, is nonsense. It want's people to think that the draconian diet they put you on for weeks or months has a purpose. You don't consume calories and lose weight? Amazing stuff there. So they try to reframe it as breaking & building new habits. You can do that without the draconian measures, probably better if you're not lying to yourself about what you're doing. Now down to the important issue: How do you get back on track? Get back on track. Think of this as a marathon. You've run a few miles then fall. What do you do? Do you get up and go back to the beginning, and start again? Do you go through your pre-race rituals? No. You get back up run. You don't warm up again, you don't strip down and redress? No. You just get up and get going. One foot in front of the other. So, you figured out you fell. Get up and get going again. Good Luck, Tek
