  1. diane1, I was a band to sleeve revision done in two surgeries, so I didn't have to go through all the rig-a-ma-rol again. I really think I only had to go to the 4hr class so they could justify the $300 program fee. I really don't have that much to lose and I have already lost half of that.
  2. Hello! I was sleeved on the 5th (a lap-band revision) and have been reading all your post from my phone over the last few weeks but was not able to join in the conversation (I'm not too tech savvy). I'm on soft foods now and find that I am hungry every two hours or so. When I talked with my doctor he wasn't concerned and assured me that this is not "grazing". (I'm Keeping my carbs low and protien high). Are y'all counting calories? I am eating about 1000 a day and I thought I should be consuming less. I just have a real fear that just like the lap band the sleeve is not going to work for me. Catherine

    New SIPS Sleeve Procedure

Dr. Bovard from Bariatric Specialties of NC did my SIPS procedure on 12/22/14 and I was down 97 pounds as of September 21, 2015. I originally had a lap band procedure done in April 2008 and lost about 115lbs but gained about 35 back. Last year in October I decided to do a revision and I love it a lot more than the Lap Band.

    October List of Surgery's

Yesterday was a challenging day for me. I am coming off medications and do I was in a bit of discomfort. I spoke to the nurse and she told me being I was a revision patient and hernia repair on top of RNY. I just had a day trying to get in fluids, just because I don't feel thirsty or hungry. It really is an effort to drink. It is so surprising. People talk about it but it is just hard to believe until you go through it. I write all my emotions down so I can look back and remember how this was for me and never take it for granted. Today is a new day.

    Eroded Band, Aborted Bypass Surgery

It's not uncommon. For the folks I've followed, maybe 25% of the band to sleeve or GBP revisions had to be done in two steps. Remember that your surgeon made the decision to give you the best possible outcome. I'm so sorry you're disappointed!

Band to Sleeve lose more slowly?

I'm still considering band to sleeve revision. I don't mind losing more slowly as long as I lose. I've been on a roller coaster ride with my band for the last several months. I had 6cc removed from the band which put me to just under 3cc in. I gained 7 pounds. I've been re-filled back 5.5 cc as of a week ago. I have not lost one pound. I think I need more Protein maybe? I know I'm not getting enough for the last few weeks. I don't know. I enjoyed really great success over the summer when I lost nearly 20lbs - the most I had lost with the band since I got it in 2009. Then I started having issues and the rest you basically know. I think once you have a large amount of Fluid out of the band it's never the same? It seems that way to me. I do have restriction now, but...I'm just not sure what's going on with this thing. I had decided I needed that "hard stop" the band gives me, but It's not giving me that now. So maybe I'd be better off with the sleeve. I just don't know anymore.

    from lap band to bypass,,anyone?

@@Pinkgirl1234 I'm so sorry to hear that happened. I know you must be devastated. Does this mean that you can never have a revision, or that they just have to wait awhile to give you a chance to heal? I sure hope it's the latter.

    from lap band to bypass,,anyone?

I am revising. I was previously banded Nov 2011. Lost 80 pounds, but developed problems with my band about 2.5 yrs out. I hit the green zone once. Long story short, my band cause so many reflux issues, heartburn all the time, vomiting. It eventually slipped and I just had it removed in August 2015. I am revising to bypass 11/30/15. I initially wanted sleeve, but because of the damage caused from my band with my reflux issues, the sleeve would make reflux worse. I am happy with my bypass decision. I should have chosen bypass in the first place. I am told that revision patients lose a little bit slower than a new WLS patient. We shall see.

Band to sleeve to sleeve revision

Maybe get a revision to the DS.
  11. So I went for my bypass revision today and when I woke up, I was told that they had to remove the band and abort the bypass surgery. It couldn't be done because the band eroded by stomach and my organs were swollen and smashed together. I can try again in three months. Anyone else have this issue? I feel so defeated and hurt. I've had nothing but problems with this band It's the worst decision I've ever made. I'm so emotional end just upset right now.

    Interesting, what people notice.

Had port revision done today at Raleigh-Duke In Raleigh, NC.. Little to no pain. Dr. Kerri Seymour is the best..
  13. In 2009 I was banded at 255 pounds. I lost over 100 lbs but my band slipped in 2012, when removing it the doctor performed the sleeve. I have never felt the type of restriction with the sleeve as I did with the band. I went through a depressive time because of tough events in my life. I am now back over 200 lbs. with little to no restriction. I am trying to get back on track but it seems so hard. I want to ask my surgeon to go in and tighten things up, I feel like it would help and also be a mental restart to give me the focus, determination, and success I had with the band. I'm so embarrassed to even be back over 200 lbs that I haven't made an appointment to see him. Has anybody had a revision and if so how did you discuss it with your doctor?

    I have a date! November 20th.

Congrats on the go ahead for your revision! Best of luck!

    I'm scared!

Did you have a problem keeping the weight off after your sleeve? I've noticed that revisions to ds are becoming more common.

My Lap Band caused Esophageal Cancer

I have actually had issues with my lapband, weight loss, food getting stuck, throwing up daily, and now dealing with all of the testing related to erosion and/or Barrett's complications. I was never told what "full" would feel like, not like an alien wanting to pop out of my chest, gag reflex and bolting to the restroom. I wasn't told that I wouldn't know what food would trigger it or when it would happen. I was told my insurance would cover follow up visits but it didn't. It started in 2008 and I am here now. Back at my original weight, having only lost 35 lbs originally, being approved for removal and sleeve revision only to find out that even with insurance, my portion would be around $13,000. I am considering a lawsuit for the initial cost, removal and any treatment that will come from what I am also facing. I hope your treatment works well and you get better asap.
  17. No. There's a patch?? I'm pretty shocked none of your doctors told you about this option when you weren't able to keep your Vitamins down! My doctor says it doesn't have the appropriate levels for a bariatric patient. However, she only does bands, RNY, and band/sleeve-to-RNY revisions, so perhaps that advice was specific to RNY. I dont have any problems with tolerating taste or texture in my vitamins. At this point in my journey, I'm able to tolerate small capsules. The only vitamins I have to take that have any taste are my chewable calcium and chocolate chewable Iron. That may be true, but the person I was responding to couldn't keep down vitamins AT ALL. Surely, in the search for a solution, her doctors could have recommended a patch so that she could at least get SOME vitamins in.
  18. I had the band placed 4 yes ago, I got a puncture in my tubing and my port displaced within 6 mths. They didn't know I had a puncture and just scheduled surgery to re-place the port two additional times before figuring out I had a puncture, fibrin grew inside my tubing and wrapped around my tubing and my port came loose within 2 weeks of repositioning it during surgery. I am scheduled to revise to the sleeve tomorrow! I have been dealing with this band for 4 long years with almost zero results because of the band not me. My sister had the band and lost almost 100lbs and then after having babies her port became detached and the band has slipped from vomiting. My friend has the band and lost about 60lbs with it and is maintaining for at least 2-3 yrs now. But she vomits or "slimes" after every meal she has (which might be related to the types of food she eats, or the band being too tight or other issues). My dr tried to talk me out of the band but I insisted and it was a terrible decision because this will be my 4th surgery in 4 yrs. And from what I have seen most people will have to have additional surgeries at some point with the band. It is a foreign object in your body and without any problems with it, it will still need to be replaced eventually. This is just my experience and I understand there are a lot of people with success with it.
  19. I am revising to bypass. I ha e already had my band removed 3 months ago and scheduled for bypass 11/30. I sending you PM
  20. Aug 31st I had revision from band to rny. So far it's been an easy transition. I don't appear to be losing weight as fast as I thought I would. But I feel great, and have no regrets.
  21. I am losing slowly, but losing. I lost slowly with the band too... 60 lbs the first year, then another 20 lbs to reach goal the first part of the next year. I kept it off for several years until band issues resulted in an empty band... and then the weight just crept back up! I should add that I have always been a very very slow loser, so like most things your mileage will vary! It will definitely stop any regain of your current success, and make it easier to maintain. My surgeon's coordinator is also a band to sleeve revision, and said that it is common for band revision to lose slower... I have no idea why. I am losing faster than I did with the band though.
  22. It's not just the surgeons. Very frequently, it's the individual. You can counsel someone for 6 months about what to do/not to do, but ultimately it's that person's responsibility to comply and take care of his/herself. Some surgeons just do surgery and leave all the vitamins/protein/water talk to a nutritionist. But no matter who is dispensing the info, it's up to the patient to see it all through. 23. Alright, I am having my lap band to gastric sleeve revision on November 20th. I would love if those that have already had the revision or the gastric sleeve to help me out. What do I need to do/purchase in order to be fully prepared? What Vitamins do I need? What Protein shakes/powders, etc? What items should I take to the hospital? What other advice would you give me? What did you wish someone had told you before you had surgery? Any and all help, opinions, and advice are welcomed.
  24. Hi....brand new to this site. I'm a 2007 lap bander and due to many issues and working towards a revision. All tests, appointments done. NOW the insurance waiting game begins. I was wondering if there is a place for people like me (revisions) or if I would come here? Also is there any one like me out there? How did you do? Glad to be amongst my peeps again.

    Interesting, what people notice.

I had to have a revision because the port stuck out and was bothering me...and looked funny. The surgeon replaced it with a lower profile and tucked it behind the abdominal muscle to hide it better. I've always had good restriction even with no fills.
