    September surgeries!

I was sleeved 9/28/15. I struggle to get in enough calories to stay out of starvation mode but I'm doing ok hitting my Protein of 60 or more grams a day. I eat every morning one turkey sausage link, (almost) one egg and a tablespoon of shredded cheddar for Breakfast. For morning snack a light baby bell cheese, lunch is 2oz of protein and a light laughing cow cheese wedge. I try to eat a light Greek yogurt for afternoon snack. dinner is about 2 oz of whatever protein I am making for my family for dinner. And if I haven't hit my protein for the day I'll have a cup of Kroger carb master chocolate milk (11grams protein in 8oz). I am trying to not do the Protein shakes unless I have a really low day with food intake. I also can't eat more then just about the 2 oz at a time so that's why I have to do the Snacks in between. Some days I also will eat a cup of Smartlife light white cheddar popcorn for a snack. Even with the snacks and all most days I barley hit 600 calories. I track everything through my fitness pal. Thank you for sharing. Great info. What exactly is the amount to stay clear of starvation? I struggle to get in 400 to 500 calories daily unless I push to eat in between meals.
  2. You have to be careful with Lean Cuisine and other prepared food. The sodium content is extremely high and it is not healthy. Eating it once a week is fine, but no more. Peanut Butter on soda crackers, grape/crackers/cheese for lunch greek yogurt definitely, get the low carb one. small amount of Dreamfield Pasta with tomato sauce or alfredo sauce, add some cheese to it small beef patty with frozen veggies cooked in the microwave (surely you can cook a hamburger patty) any meat with vegetables is perfect. Good luck. How about consulting a nutritionist, they have tons of ideas and could help you. But try to stay away from frozen prepared food other than vegetables. It is full of sodium and additives.

    October List of Surgery's

It sounds like your not getting enough to eat or drink going that far out. I'm having to take miralax every other day. And sometimes everyday. I take it with my water in the evening. My routine is working really well for me & I too never feel completely full, glad other's are experiencing this too. I just measure all food out so I don't eat more than 1/2 cup. My routine is a premiere Protein Shake in the morning 30g protein & I drink 1 16oz of water till lunch. At lunch I will eat 1/2 cup of chili, or ham & Beans, or cottage cheese with unflavored protein power, or yogurt with unflavored Protein powder. I get those 32oz Powerade zero fruit punch flavored & add a scoop of unflavored protein powder to it & drink it after lunch till dinner 21gr protein. Dinner is a small piece of grilled chicken 1/4c & 1/4 c cottage cheese. I drink my last 16oz water after dinner till bed. I put miralax every other night in my after dinner water. I have one snack a day of string cheese. That gives me my 64oz of water & over 60gr of protein. I haven't weighed but I can tell by my cloths I'm loosing. I'm not exercising but I'm walking for 30min. (somedays not every 2x a day). I was stuck in a rut too when everyone else lost so much more than I the 1st two weeks (5 lbs) for me, so I had to stay away from the scale. Your not a failure, you took a big chance to have surgery & I think you are very brave!!! You had your surgery 1 week after me so your a little over 3 weeks & I didn't feel like doing much or have energy till after the 3 weeks, & with my routine, I'm finally feeling like my old self. You will too! Give yourself time & maybe a routine like mine will help. If I don't get my water or protein I feel it the next day & can tell. Let me know how you are doing, I will be thinking about you!
  4. Thanks everyone, today thank goodness I am really not hungry and have hardly been eating, but I did get 60gms of Protein so far, 1 premier shake and unflavored GENEPRO with some yogurt, and then dinner should give me my 80-100gms The reason I cannot take a PPI is because prior to my surgery I had SIBO, which can come from using a PPI for an extended time. I really should not even take pepcid, but since it is not a PPI it seems to be OK and works just as well.

Breakfast is usually 1 egg and 2 slices turkey bacon, snack is usually a oikos triple zero yogurt or string cheese, lunch tuna fish or a high protein weight watchers meal-i usually eat about 1/2 of it, then dinner is salmon chicken or some other meat and a veg.

    September surgeries!

On a typical day, I have a Protein shake in the morning.. Greek yogurt for my morning snack, some sort of dense protein for lunch (leftovers from the night before). dinner is fish or chicken. If I feel the need for something later......cottage cheese, SF popsicles, On the weekends, I make a scrambled egg with spinach and feta for breakfast.

Smell of food makes me ill.

It normal but I hope your drinking protein shakes?! You will get sick f your only eating a yogurt.
  8. I try hard to make healthier versions of tastes I love. It takes being willing to experiment in the kitchen. For example, I went through 3 variations to make pancakes with protein powder. I don't buy diet foods so I am mostly trying to reimagine regular food. It can be little things like cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes or making a rice bowl without the rice or using quinoa instead. Tonight I made a really tasty 3 ingredient snack. I took unsweetened coconut shreds added 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, and enough water to blend. I whizzed it in the nutra bullet to make a paste then folded into half a cup of Greek yogurt. I swear it tastes like the inside of an almond joy! Next time I may add a tsp of raw cacao powder & a few almond slivers to get the complete taste.

  10. I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out I was fine up until about 2-3 days ago. Watching others eat fast food or even just normal food was ok with me. All of a sudden anytime someone cooks or brings food home, I literally dry heave. It only makes my appetite problem worse. Since I'm already having a very hard time eating anything. Today I've only had one 80 calorie yogurt. Food disgusts me right now, and I'm not liking this feeling.
  11. You will find out when you start eating more and feel the restriction. Since you just had surgery not to long ago, you really won't be eating any large amounts of anything for a while, no matter how hungry you feel. I think it took me at least 6 to 8 months beforeI felt like I could eat a decent amount. Now I do well to eat a full chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-a. Usually there is always some left. When my co-workers are with me, they don't order much food because they know I'm not going to finish everything and they have become accustomed to eating the rest lol. Yogurt is one of my favorite foods. I have honestly never tried cottage cheese. When I get a hunger craving now, I eat either yogurt or drink a boldthouse shake which has 32 grams of Protein in it. The shakes/smoothies have a lot of calories but its better than alternatives.

  13. Yesterday my whole schedule was out of whack. We went to the OAC meeting in LA, good but very poor turnout. I was off on my food schedule, Vitamins, etc. They had free food, fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, etc, so I ate, and a little while later ate again, I could not stop, just like I used to do before sleeve 8/3 of this year. Was full but managed to eat twice while we were there for about 3 hours. Later that day I was so hungry, have been hungry since week 2, yes I get all my liquids, Protein 100gms or more and vitamins, and pepcid, cannot take a PPI. I snacked in afternoon on some cheese and triscuits, we are allowed to have them. Anyway what was worse we went to dinner and I soooo overate, just kept shoving in the salmon, chicken and some veggies, all good stuff, but this was the first time I really thought it was coming back up. Still feel full this AM. Does anyone else do this and how do you stop. I am so grateful for my sleeve, but yesterday it felt like it was not 100% working. Feel depressed and so guilty, any comments or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

3 protein shakes a day Choice of SF Jello, SF Pudding, SF Popsicle, 4 oz FF cottage cheese, 4oz FF yogurt - 2 per day 1 broth based soup a day All the water I can drink.
  15. Thanks for your responses. So, how much soup should I have? I kind of thought that the sleeve would let me know when I'd had enough! I've got a lot to learn. Do I have to set the amount myself? I start on soft foods tomorrow. My NUT says to start with one egg and 1/4 cup of cottage cheese or yogurt.
  16. Not sure how to advise. Helping you to eat smaller portions is kind of the whole point of surgery. What were your expectations? As for the portions I can eat it depends on the density food. Solid Protein like chicken or beef I can only eat about 1/2 cup. But I can eat a whole cup of veggies or Greek yogurt or soup. Slider foods like chips, Cookies, popcorn, Peanut Butter, ice cream, certain fruits and even Protein shakes I could eat almost limitless amounts of. But "choosing" to eat like a small bird is what has made me successful.
  17. This is a great topic and until you posted it, I never real put much though in to it. I would now categorize myself as extreme restriction because most of the time, I do not eat what I prepare for my family. I am five months post op and still have a shake every morning and eat mostly cottage cheese, babybels, pb and apples and greek yogurt. I cannot tolerate most meats, so that is a huge downfall for me. But there are days (like yesterday) where I made my son and his friend chicken nuggets and tater tots and I ate two tater tots, because like you and many others I refuse to gain any of the weight I have lost back, I have put waaaay too much time and effort into this process. The two "meals" I have made and enjoyed are the ricotta bake and a cauliflower mac & cheese. Other than that, I eat the same things day after day.
  18. My "go-to" sweet fixes are either a Greek Yogurt with chopped pecans and coconut flakes stirred in (feels like a real desert ), or a sugar-free fudgecicle. Neither are cupcakes or donuts, but they help. I ate peanut MM's at the movies yesterday and felt so nauseous and sick, I didn't really enjoy the movie. I'm wondering if you would have the same reaction if you actually ate all that sugar? I was reminded yesterday that that stuff does not make me feel good!

HELP! (No, it's not really THAT dramatic????)

My new go to for a sweet is yogurt with sugar-free caramel to torani sauce. It's like a Sunday without ice cream.
  20. you could also check into Upcal D. It's a powdered calcium citrate that you can mix into food. It's kind of sweet, so I usually mix it into yogurt. Supposedly you can mix it into beverages, too, but it doesn't dissolve all that well - I have to keep shaking the drink before I take a swig....otherwise, the powder just collects on the bottom of my blender cup. I actually take calcium citrate in several forms - usually Upcal D in my morning yogurt, a couple of tablets at work (around lunch time), and a Bariatric Advantage chew or Calcet Creamy bite after dinner as my "dessert". I figure I'll absorb at least one of these forms....
  21. I went to the doctor yesterday to see if I could get a little more filling. It turns out that my esophagus has stretched and that is why I can eat so much and not feel satisfied. She drained my band and put me on a liquid diet for a month. Bummer. She said that the esophagus should go back to normal. I guess I needed a wake-up call, because I was binging so badly. Even though it was small amounts, I was eating all day and night. I am so hooked on sweets. I feel like I'm constantly trying to adjust my body with food. I want something sweet, then I want something like crackers, bread, or nuts - then something sweet, then on and on and on - the circle never ends. Sometimes I scream at myself in my head, "Stop eating !!!!!" I always say that I can't. But I think I have been using negative self-talk in that area. I'm good at positive self-talk in other areas of my life, and it truly works. I'm going to practice positive self-talk with regulating my food intake now. I realize that everything you say or do is a choice, and saying "I can't" is choosing "not to." I have been so disappointed that my band did not seem to make any difference for me. If I had the will-power to do everything that is expected of me with my band, I would not have been fat in the first place. I guess the band has helped some, because I've lost 40 pounds over 4 years. That's 40 less than I have to lose now. That's positive. I did good today; I have had only my 30g Protein drinks. I can have Jello or yogurt tonight. Thanksgiving will be hard, so I'm going to enjoy it at home alone this time and enjoy some movies. I'd like to know how some of y'all are doing now. Success stories ......... problems .......????

    October List of Surgery's

@@anewme2015 you sound like you are coming along nicely. I had cottage cheese today and loved it. It is interesting how are taste change. I am not feeling yogurt right now. I Don't go back to work until the 16th. We went to the mall today and man I am feeling it. I still have so much soreness and discomfort. I wore jeans and the button hits my belly button incision OMG it hurt. My jeans are loose thought. We went to Red Lobster. I got. 5oz Salmon with mashed potatoes and brocolli. I ate about 2oz of salmon a few bites of potatoes and 1 brocolli spear. I shared my plate with my 17 month old and my husband always eats my food lol. The biscuits OMG looked good but honestly I do not even feel tempted. I am still not getting 3 meals a day. It is just hard.
  23. Are you sure you can have meats this early? Most of us are on pureed foods or at least soft foods only at 4 weeks. Turkey would have been way too hard for me to digest at 2 weeks. You HAVE to get Protein in. What kind of shakes have you tried? Premier Protein ready made shakes are really good - not gritty. And know that early on, everything is hard to get down. You need to try shakes again. Alternatively, at the very least try some protein powder mixed with stuff. For example, I use Precision Engineered whey Protein Isolate (which is only 10% lactose and 30g protein). I mix half a scoop of vanilla powder into flavored greek yogurt or half a scoop of chocolate powder with Jello sugar free Chocolate pudding cup. I also ate hummus mixed with unflavored protein powder. And pimento cheese mixed with unflavored powder. Oh and fat free refried Beans with shredded low fat cheese on top. (I ate that one a lot and still do at 5 months out.) Hope that helps!!
  24. No as I can't stand the taste of yogurt ???? but these pills seem to be helping a lot.
  25. Karl, You shouldn't have any issues with these and they should help get your issues solved. Are you eating any yogurt post surgery?
