  1. well said... my doc said something at our seminar- the surgery takes the weight off. compliance keeps it off. LOVED that. im going to sticky it all over my house! LOL

Will be happy to be a slow loser

While I understand why each doc does what they do (usually anyway), I totally agree with your program. If my doc said 'you can never eat XXX again' I would totally be dying to have XXX. Healthy foods in moderation that create a healthy relationship with food while still allowing you to have a normal healthy life really would seem to be the goal to me. Good luck!!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

    Need advice

Hang in there and keep going for fills! This is a hard time. Don't give up, vent all you want. Restriction is coming. It took me 4 fills to have a good amount of restriction and to loose some weight. It's a hard time and we are sooo ready to see results! They will come! Trust the process and keep on going in for FILLS!
  5. First, congratulations on your weight loss. Second, skin doesn't weigh very much, so don't expect a change to your scale. My goal of the TT was to get rid of the unwanted skin and have a better appearance to where my clothing would fit better. I'm very pleased with the results. I recommend that you prepare for the same weight, then if you lose a little bit, then that'll be a bonus. A word of advice though, you will have lots of swelling immediately after your procedure, so it's a good idea to wait a week or so before getting on the scale or you might be disappointed. Oh, and I also took measurements (waist, hips) prior to surgery so I would know how much my body had changed since I wasn't expecting a weight loss. It was sort of a mental thing with me just wanting to know that I was spending the money and getting something out of it. I'm down three dress sizes, so HELL YEAH! I got something out of it! Best of luck to you. Keep us posted on your progress!

    Concern about Pouch Stretching

I've not tried this yet but I've heard some great success stories about people getting back on track with this "recipe" It is a 5 day pouch test. Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test
  7. Rebecca Cain Salpacka

How much did the extra skin weigh for a TT?

My Lapband surgeon said that she wouldnt even suggest looking into PS until at least 1 year after i reach my goal weight and have maintained it. I still have at least anohter year to year and half before i reach goal...so will be long while before i can have PS. I have had the rashes since before my band, and have them more so now..so im hoping that insurance will cover it when i do.

    Not losing weight

What is your height and weight, and how many calories are you eating each day?
  9. So Monday is my surgery pending insurance clearance. Thursday I have a pre-op pre-admission test. I had a 6 month nutrition program that I had to lose 25 pounds to qualify and I did. Exactly 25. My problem now is that I gained some of that back. I’m so worried they will deny me, the doctor at least. I worry about everything.
  10. This. I do this too. I wish you the BEST of luck. I know with my weight, it fluctuates SO heavily because my body looooves to retain water, so maybe it's that? I know my weight can change up to 6lbs from morning to afternoon because of water weight (it's super effing annoying!)
  11. The supervised diet is for a number of things (BTW, mine was 12 months, I'm jealous of you 6 or even 3 month folks ). No idea mentioned some of them, getting used to life style changes, getting a mind set, etc. It also shows the insurance company that is going to pay loads of $$ for this surgery that you CAN make a committment to weight loss and that you will follow doctor's orders. After all, so much of WLS is following guidelines and changing our eating drastically. From their point of view, if we have dieted in the past and gained it back, or if we just continue to creep up on the scale every year, why is sugery going to magically cure all that? WLS requires a deep committment on our part and they just want to see some evidence of that committment in the form of a "supervised diet." Many insurance compoanies require a certain amount of loss on this diet, mine required 5% loss of my excess weight in that year. Worked out to 9lbs, so certainly they weren't forcing me to lose a LOAD of weight, just enough to show I cared.

I'm approved with BCBS of AL

Wonderful news about the Approval, Grace!!! :smile2: Very sorry to hear of your loss..God has blessed you with the approval news to help you move on (although you never forget, I don't). I'm thinking it is going to be so much easier for you to get pregnant, though, after you start losing weight!! We can't wait to hear your date!!

Thanks!! Date is set... April 24th. Seems like forever away.. but they are booked up until April and we are planning a weekend getaway that month also and I didn't want to be away and on liquids during vacation. I'm excited! Sure hope I don't gain back what little I lost before then. lol
  14. Oct. 2008 4cc band placed (243lbs), after 5 small fills a total of 1.5cc in my band I had very little restriction. Having 2 kids it was hard to keep going for more fills so I tried to just keep eating healthy. After losing a slow 30 pounds then gaining about 10 of it back, I found out I was pregnant with my sweet baby girl in May (now 223lbs)! I didn't have too much restriction I could eat any food with no problems (example steak was an ease) so I'm guessing that's why I was able to go through pregnancy without an unfill. I was teeny bit more restricted while pregnant but not enough to really notice, I still think it really helped. Luckily, I didn't have morning sickness. I didn't have any problems with the band whatsoever. I started thinking that I might have problems toward the end of my pregnancy once my baby was bigger and I had gained more weight. But, even at the late stages it went really smooth and able to go through my whole pregnancy without an unfill. No, problems! I gained 36 pounds while pregnant ( now 259lbs), omg, I quickly dropped back to 223lbs and stayed there for about 5 months and started gaining again after gaining about 5lbs (now 228lbs) in July of 2010 I finally went for another fill...my first fill after pregnancy which was my choice to wait .5 was added (2cc now in my 4cc band), I was starving! Didn't make it back to the doctor till Sept. of 2010 another .5 was added (2.5cc now in my 4cc band), I was still starving and not eating the healthiest gained 11 lbs. So, December 22 I weighed a total 239 pounds almost to the point of where I started! I went back to my doctor who is great, she will fill the band till she feels pressure, makes me sit up and drink Water, will add or subtract till it's just right. Another .5cc was added to the band for a total of 3cc in my 4cc band. It feels so great, I finally feel what restriction feels like! I don't really have to chew chew chew and can eat regularly I could probably still eat steak but haven't tried it yet lol but the hunger is gone..so I'm definitely at my sweet spot and loving it. I've lost 2.5 lbs and never been so happy because I know that after a little over 2 years I'm finally on my way. I'm eating right and trying to walk/jog 1 to 1.5 miles a day and feeling great. I love my band and I will eventually get to where I need to be in my own time.

    13 Days post op

I had a revision due to gerd and during the liquid and puree phase, I did not feel any restriction. Once I entered solid foods, I absolutely did and still do. I can not eat more than 2 ounces of protein at a time and a little veggies/fruit, and it keeps me full for about 3-4 hours. I am a little over 6 months. I'm close to goal and the weight loss has been steady. It is a definite learning curve though. My "I'm satisfied" flag does not come up till 30 to 40 min later so I've learned to always measure my food beforehand to avoid anything uncomfortable later and to chew a lot.
  16. I know a lot of people fly for surgery. I thought I was going to be able to drive, but now it's looking like a strong possibility that I'll have to fly. I haven't flown for years, and the last time I did, I was somewhat slimmer, so it wasn't as big a deal. I read that Spirit Airlines has a "big front seat" that's 20" instead of 17" and has more leg room as well as more room between the seats. Has anyone used that seat/airline? What other airlines have you used? Which ones are the most "fat friendly"? I just don't want to get there and have to buy a second seat or not be able to get a seat belt extender that's big enough. That's SO embarrassing. I can't wait until I've lost weight and never have to deal with this again! Thanks for any help/suggestions! Melody
  17. This is just a stall! Calories in & calories out is THE universal rule & you will continue to lose weight after this little hump. I've had multiple stalls & Im still losing. just stick to your plan & you will see your desired results

    Soft Food Stage

Hey all .. I see some familiar names in here! Please disregard this post if you see it on another fourm I am 6 weeks out and I have some questions on food phases. I was advised to stay on full liquids for 3 weeks, which I did pretty much without a hitch (hard to believe, but I did it.) Now I'm halfway through my soft foods stage .. I haven't been perfect, but I am doing very well with Carnation Instant Breakfast, scrambled eggs, SF yogurt, tuna, baked fish, etc. I am getting in all of my Protein and most of my Water. My question's this. I don't have a problem eating soft foods for the remaining two weeks, but I am not really losing weight either. In fact, I gained 2.5 lb back when I got on soft foods (I have since realized where I was making my mistakes and tweaked my intake). I have the determination to follow my doctors' advice, but they are very extremely pro-RNY and I feel that my dietary instructions may be more for RNY patients. In fact, the guidelines they provided have a heading that reads "Dietary Requirements for Gastric Bypass." I complained about that, but we will see if they fix it. I have been waiting 30 minutes after eating to drink my water. Is that long enough? Also, could/should I be introducing more solid food to my diet, at 6 weeks out, so that I can maximize my restriction? I don't want to harm anything. Nobody at my doctors' office seems to make any distinction between RNY and Band procedures. I don't think they are making the effort. I didn't get the Inamed booklet or anything Band-related from them. Any advice would be appreciated. Jeanie

    27 Jan 07

Well hey, I have my consult scheduled for Tues. the 30th of Jan. I'm giddy like a school girl. I find that I don't want to eat much. I'm sure it's just the anticipation and excitement. My high BMI of 50 determines that I need to lose 5% body weight. For me at 282 and 62.5 inches... that's 14 lbs. Seems insurmountable because I want to do it in such a short amount of time. But I'm already at 274 since the beginning of Jan. so that would leave 6 lbs. to go. Woo hoo.:clap2:
  20. I need some help. I have set up two times a tickler for my posts here. I don't know how to save it. I don't know how to "Bookmark" it and I don't know how to add it to my signature ? I didn't even know I had a signature line. I have been trying to figure this out and I guess I am hopeless. :smile2: I would really appreciate some help. If you want to email me you can send it to pksichel1@netzero.com. Thanks for the help. Hope to hear soon.

  23. This early out, you are likely not getting proper "full" signals from your stomach. Remember, all of the nerves are severed when your stomach is cut. Do NOT rely on your stomach to give you proper signals of fullness and hunger only 3 weeks out. You should be measuring/weighing all of your food and eating on a schedule until you are healed and back on solid foods. PS: 99.99% of people's weight loss stalls in the third week. It's called the Week 3 Stall.
  24. I choose to weigh on the day I have to get up early in the morning. I work one morning shift a week, so I weigh Thursday's at 6:40 am, when I wake up after I've gone to the bathroom. That is the only weight I record. Now strangely that is not my lowest weight of the day. It is usually around noon or one (before I eat lunch). I am a chronic weigher it helps keep me on track. I try to ignore the day to day fluctuations. I do try to look at what I ate the day before. But I only truly accept the one weight a week.
  25. Damn scale. I work out and jump on that scale and it seems like it hardly moves then go to the dr and realize I lost 9 pounds in a month. Felt like I had lost nothing because I was watching it go down ounce by ounce. I weigh once a week now, at the gym, don't even have a scale at home. The scale will drive you crazy! LOL I feel great, that's what is most important! So many non scale victories to enjoy along with the weight loss, don't forget how rewarding they can be too! Good Luck!
