    Newest Bypasser

Hi everyone So I'm 24years old, female and on Monday the 21st of January 2019 I had my gastric bypass. So far everything is going great and I feel really lucky to be doing so well. I have to admit I did not do the pre-operative diet but this was decided through a consult with my surgeon; upon release from hospital on Wednesday the 23rd of January, I weighed exactly 120.2kg. I've decided I will wait until Monday to weigh myself again but I'm excited to heal and get myself on this journey back to health. Anyway, I'll stop rambling now, just wanted to say hi and if anyone has important tips on anything then please let me know my water intake is great at 1.5-2.5L per day already! #hydrate hydrate hydrate Sent from my BLA-L29 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Stall since beginning exercise?

Hi friends, I'll be 1 year out from RNY on 1/31/19 - exciting! I was a naughty girl and didn't incorporate exercise until about 3 weeks ago. Since then I've been really diligent going to the gym 5-6 days a week, doing primarily cardio and core but strength twice a week as well. Since then the scale has been awful. I'm going up and down the same 2lbs over and over and over when I'm absolutely maintaining a caloric deficit (eating ~1100 calories a day). My diet obviously has been the key to losing for me, but now I'm so close to the finish line and trying to do good by myself with the exercise and it's stalled out completely. Has anyone else had any experience with this? I'm trying not to be discouraged, and I'm so super happy about my progress.. but I am dying to get that normal BMI for the first time in my life!! Thanks in advance.

    Follow up psych eval

She had her surgery on 12/10/18. Good luck trying to get me in for a 2 1/2 hour psych eval and test post-op. LOL!
  4. Starting out I wanted to at least be the avg loss which put me in the 220s. Anything beyond that was way to hard for my brain to wrap around. Once there then it was can I get into straight sizes and under 200. I’m now in theory 20 lbs to the not overweight per BMI chart. At 185 my team and I are so happy that our goal has changed from a pure weight number to a fat to muscle percentage that will likely put me over a bit in the 170s... I’m consistently in 12/10s and mediums. At this point it’s going to be where can I land that is where I look/ feel healthy and maintain it.
  5. There is an article in the Washington Post that talks about patients that had bariatric surgery at Grand View Hospital in Tijuana and returned with a potentially deadly antibiotic-resistant strain of bacteria. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/they-went-to-mexico-for-surgery-they-came-back-with-a-deadly-superbug/2019/01/23/ac0ca280-1dcb-11e9-9145-3f74070bbdb9_story.html

Was able to have maybe 10 lil bits of jello and water so far . Will have so chicken broth later today let see how that goes .. So soreness which is normal, Not sure if this is related but this morning when I put on my glasses I’m unable to see close up very weird.if continues will call dr office
  7. First appt was October 4,2018 surgery is scheduled February 5, 2019. All my requirements were done by thanksgiving. My dr went on vacation in January so it took a little longer to get booked. I have Cigna. They don’t require supervised diet.

    "You're too skinny!"

I'm still newly post-op and have only lost 19 pounds, but as I anticipate losing more weight and family asking "Have you lost weight?" I'm just going to try to shrug it off as long as I can. Why do other people think it's okay to comment on someone else's weight anyway?

    Got Gout?

I've struggled with gout for the last 4 years or so, on an off, which was basically kept under control with dietary restrictions (avoiding beer, shellfish, etc.). Since the RNY my gout has been basically constant, like one long attack that never fully goes away. Most times the pain is in the 2-3 range out of 10, but in the last 2 weeks it has become unbearable. Pain, swelling, tingling, and redness in my ankle, foot, and toes. Tylenol is basically useless and the Colchicine is a no-no according to both my family physician and the surgeon's office. Started taking Allopurinol, but it takes months to have any noticeable effect and can actually worsen an attack in the near term. Also taking Tart Cherry and Turmeric, but those have limited benefits, and I'm drinking water...a lot of water! What I've gotten from the various medical folks is 'well it's part of the weight loss' and 'it's expected'. That's great and all, but there's no way I'm going to be able to return to work if this lasts much longer or becomes a permanent thing. It's pretty disabling at this point. Anyone have other tips? Just looking for some relief. Thanks.
  10. Ten days post op for me and initially lost 10lbs but as of day 10 am up a lb. completely discouraged. Getting in my protein, water. I just don’t get it. I wasn’t required to lose any weight prior to surgery. How can I not be losing?

    February 2019 weight loss buds

That's amazing. I guess all surgeons have different requirements. I have to be on a complete all-liquid diet 10 days before surgery. Its gonna be hard!

    I GOT MY DATE!!

Note to self... NO STOCKING UP. Got it! I am really into makeup and all that jazz, so one of the things I am booking before surgery is to get eyelash extensions so when I wake up, I'll feel all pretty. lol On a scale of 1-10, how bad was the pain after? I was thinking of just bringing flowing dresses, would yoga pants be too constricting on the wounds? I plan on walking as soon as I wake up, I'm afraid of a blood clot forming so I plan to WALK WALK WALK! I really appreciate y'alls input.
  13. My heaviest weight was 370. In 2010 I had the band installed (such a mistake, waste of time, money and effort IMO) March 10th, 2018 at my Pre-Surgical check in I was 310. March 21st, 2018 at check in for surgery I was 294.4. I had the band removed and revised to the bypass. Today, January 23rd, 2019. 308 days after surgery... I hit a number that I haven't seen in more than 20 years Onederland. I'm down 95 lbs since surgery, 110.6 lbs from pre-surgical. And a staggering 170.6 lbs from my heaviest weight. I need to thank so many people that if I tried, I'd forget someone and then we'd start with the hard feelings. So I'll go with this. Thank you. If you've helped me through this in any way, shape, or form, Thank you.
  14. Dr. Francisco Manuel Contreras Guarista We recently received information about Dr. Francisco Manuel Contreras Guarista that we need to share with the Bariatric community. Dr. Francisco Manuel Contreras Guarista was sentenced on 2/04/2011 for DRUG SMUGGLING! https://www.docketalarm.com/cases/California_Southern_District_Court/3--10-cr-00834/USA_v._Contreras-Guarista/ He is currently being represented by Santé Surgical Group and operating out of Oasis of Hope Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico. We also received information that he is a medical doctor and is not licensed as a bariatric surgeon in Mexico! Please make sure you share this information with friends and family that are researching having surgery in Mexico.
  15. Hi I’m new here and recently had surgery on 1/18/19, my doctor said that I can take liquid Tylenol for pain (since I don’t like how hydrocordone make me feel) but I noticed it has high fructose corn syrup in it. So has anyone taken this & was okay?
  16. I am 2 weeks post sleeve surgery January 8, 2019. Have had only a 5 lb loss since surgery. Following diet and vitamins. Also developed a severe cramping/stabbing pain in lower left side the Doctors office doesnt seem to care about. Just told me to put on a tight shirt. Pain meds do not touch it..and it hurts to bad to exercise. Feel I have made a huge mistake. Lost more weight pre OP on my own than with this mess..just getting frustrated and depressed.

    Opinion?

That's over 3 pounds per week. That's GREAT! Take it easy on yourself, it's not all gonna come off overnight. I'm at 6 weeks post-op and have lost 19 pounds and I'm happy because I know it's going to be a consistent couple of pounds a week for the next 9-12 months and I'll eventually reach goal weight.
  18. I honestly wouldn't worry about losing too much weight. You're around 9 months post-op and it sounds like you're getting close to bottoming out on the weight loss. I wouldn't lose sleep about it or try to do anything to really change any good habits you have developed. This happens to lots of people and they start to freak out about losing too much weight and looking too skinny. It will not stay that way for long. It's typical for bariatric patients to drop below their new set point on their way down the scale--just a little weight loss forward momentum at play. Most bariatric patients will bounce back to their new set point with a 10-15 pound gain after they bottom out. Some people start to freak out and and worry about this being a regain--but it's not a true regain, but a healthy rebound that will bring you to your new, stable set point. It's a normal part of this process. I wouldn't try to do anything to your diet to stop the loss, you're body will do that for you once it determines that you have dropped too low and it will increase your hunger (grehlin is not the only hunger hormone you have). In short, it sounds like you have a good problem right now. Even if you're at 130 or even 125, you're probably near your bottom and will bounce back up to 140-150 with a little time--which will be a comfortable, healthy weight for you to maintain.

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

SO far behind, but let's go! #19 - my vitamins (I actually needed to take two pics because I have my work vitamins and my home - time-spacing issues - can't take certain ones together.) #20 - Aw, missed my chance to bestow upon you the glorious, glowing, fresh dewy image of my morning selfie---because I totally didn't look like a sleep deprived, working momma cliche with a dirty tank and holey socks. #21 My biggest support is my husband. Always. #22 Honestly I do my best working out to German rap/hip-hop--I can't understand it but it sounds incredibly angry which is basically what I feel when I am forced to exercise! Also, I have been scream-singing this one on the treadmill lately, much to the husband's chagrin. #23 - Get a fitbit to annoy you all day. I have mine vibrate to remind me to get up and move. Plus I love the little fireworks when I reach my 10,000 steps.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Great! I have a sleeve buddiversary🤗. I’m looking forward to the changes 2019 brings. I’ll post a quarterly timeline starting with 2018, pre-op day, June, Oct and Feb 2020 for 1 yr anniversary. I meet with Nutritionist for pre-op diet instructions next week. I don’t think I will do liquid diet right away since there will be about over two weeks before surgery date though. If I lose too much, may interfere with insurance qualifications.

  24. So... 4 months later and my lifts have increased to (5x5 sets): Squat: 325 Deadlift: 310 Bench: 195 I feel like my deadlift is easily the one I have the the most progress with. My squat has improved, but it's a battle every time. My bench seems to be my worst/hardest lift to progress. My goal is to get to 1,000lbs combined between all three lifts on my 5 rep max by the end of 2019.
