I have been tracking my calorie intake and on average I consume 450 to 500 calories a day. I have nothing in my band and have restriction. My question is at 8 days post op about how many calories should I be eating? I eat a lot of protein and was released to mushy foods but I am worries that I am not getting proper nutrients. My doctor told me not to worry but to eat three time a day but I am a little concerned.

catwoman7 replied to Jennifer Jessmore Spaulding's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like djmohr, one of my first thoughts was....stricture. I had two of them - one at 4 weeks out and one at 8 weeks out (they usually happen within the first 3 months after surgery) -
Exercise What Kind Do You Do?

Always good to get a combination cardio/resistance training in. I do a good bit of walking, hoping to get more into jogging as I lose weight. I loved lifting weights before surgery and still enjoy doing it now as well. Don't underestimate the cardio effect of lifting weights. Always ease into it if you've not lifted in a while and then once you're into for several weeks, you can raise the lifting intensity and really get the heart rate up by lifting as well as cycling and running. Whole body lifts such as dead lifts, power cleans, etc really get that heart pumping! If you've never been in to lifting, that doesn't mean you can't do these lifts. Lighter weight and more reps are just fine, you don't have to pile on a bunch of weight. Kettle bells are good to use for these type lifts as well. http://www.sparksportconditioning.com/why-olympic-lifting http://weighttraining.about.com/od/techniquesandstrategies/a/weights_cardio.htm http://www.livestrong.com/article/119187-cardio-weight-lifting-weight-loss/ -
Exercise What Kind Do You Do?
Lisa :) replied to Suzannesh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm training for a triathlon, so I hike and jog about 12 miles a week (mon-fri) and then I do what's called a brick workout where I swim a half mile and immediately bike 6-10 miles after my swim. I'm only 6 weeks out and i feel amazing!!! Even though I belong to a gym, I don't care for it and only go there to swim....although I'll probably start doing some weight training after the first of the year. -
Every plan is different... I'm almost 10 weeks post-op. I shoot for 800-1000 cals a day. I NEVER get past about 850 for some reason...oh yeah my little tummy. But I'm working on getting more cals a day since I'm beefing up my workouts.

I only get in 800-900 calories a day, sometimes less. I make sure to get in enough Protein (I do use supplements for this), make wise food choices (so that everything I eat gives a bang for its nutritional buck), and take a good-quality bariatric Multivitamin. I exercise daily, often twice, and have not had a major stall since banding. The loss doesn't seem dramatic on a day-by-day basis, but it really does add up.

I just saw my nutricionist last week. She said up to 1200 calories, 70g protein, and to try to keep my carbs between 100-120g. I asked her about low carbs diet and she responded that "the brain needs an average of 100 to 120 g of carbs for optimum function".

How frustrating. Im all done but still waiting a month on insurance because the contract changed on july 1 and they wouldnt approbe july surgeries until july. And i suppose they all took the week or 2 of july 4 off ? So ive been jumping through hoops since february 1. Five 1/4 months and counting... No surgery date yet. And since i expected to be on medical leave for this in may, and that extended to july, so i didnt apply for vacation time and now its too late- no vacation time left. But yeah, i guess i would drive the 2&1/2 hours, make a day pf it, maybe stay overnight, if it didnt mess up work schedule. -
I think my Band may have Slipped - really scared
addie1978 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had the band for five years. I had a fill about two weeks ago and everything was fine. On sunday morning, I tried to drink water and it would not stay down. Since then nothing will stay down unless I take super small sips of water. I keep throwing everything up, including my medication (I take cymbalta - not keeping it down is causing major problems - I think I am going through withdrawal). The band feels like it is way too tight, something is sitting on my chest, I am light headed and feel terrible. Given I was fine with my fill two weeks ago, do you think there is a chance the band has slipped? I have never had this experience before. I have had the band too tight but never a slip. This doesn't look good. I see the doctor at 3:30 today and I am terrified. -

I read a lot on here that when people go back to work about 2-4 weeks after surgery they suffer from being tired. Is it a foggy can't concentrate tired? Physically tired? That 2:00 in the afternoon feeling tired? Or fighting to keep my eyes open tired?
-
I was physically tired, not sleepy tired, going back to work 3 weeks out. Within a week I was better.

Carbs... When to Introduce them (The Good Ones!)
newbiesleever posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only a couple weeks out from being sleeved but I was wondering for those of you have been sleeved for months now, when you started to introduce carbs into your diet. I know you're supposed to eat Protein first, then veggies, then carbs. I'm just wondering how long it took to add veggies and carbs into your diet. I hear once you start on solid foods, you're just focusing on getting the protein first and then later you can add veggies. At how many months, can you start to introduce whole wheat bread/crackers/tortilla, brown rice, quinoa and other healthy carbs like that? -
Man I'm seven weeks out and caught the flu. I'm having the hardest time getting liquids in even worse i have absolutely no desire to put food in my mouth. This is just terrible! Prayers needed that I get better soon. Thanks guys!

2 1/2 weeks out from surgery. Food ideas please!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to ChattyChatterton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved April 20. In addition to what you listed: protein soup (ProtiDiet), V8, protein pudding, applesauce, green beans, yogurt, refried beans and cheese. This week I get to add soft fish so I had some grilled salmon tonight at a cookout. -
I was banded feb 6, 2012 and it took me about a month in a half to get rid of all the pain around the prot area. I relayy think it depends on each individual person. Some peoples bodys have a harder time accepting foreign objects than others..mine had a very hard time with it! Im ten weeks out and the only time i have trouble now is if i wear jeans that are to tight and push in on my port area. But its nothing extreme, its just uncomfortable. So i just dont wear those pants and dont have any problems lol! But like i said i think you will be fine before long. I was very concerned and even called my doctor multiple times asking if it was normal. He had me take tylenol ever 6 hours and that helped tremendously!

Pictures Of My Nearly 70Lb Loss In Under 5 Months!
Yukon Kara posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I started my pre-surgery diet on October 1st and was sleeved on October 19th. I started at 319lbs and was 308 at surgery. Today, I am now 252lbs and feeling amazing! I cannot imagine what life will be like in another 50lbs. I just had my four month sleeve anniversary and I think I am still in shock at how well this is all working out for me. I have also celebrating four weeks of strength training at the gym three times a week! Plus I have been out to play squash with a friend twice this month. Amazing energy right now! I am taking in 900 calories a day. My focus is on Protein mainly through natural sources other than one Protein Drink first thing in the morning. I take in 80 grams of protein a day and try and keep my carbohyrdates healthy and low. Three meals a day with two Snacks and rarely do I eat after my supper in the evening. Life with a sleeve is great! Here I am the day before surgery at 308lbs: And here I am this weekend at 252lbs:
