    March Sleevers in Tijuana!

I'm having a revision from the band to the sleeve with Dr. Garcia (Ready 4A Change) on March 8th at florence Hospital. I'm super excited and trying to stay as positive as possible. I like the fact that there will be four different doctors in the operating room at the same time. I feel confident about my decision and just pray that everything goes as smooth as possible. Good luck to everyone with your personal experience and look forward to chatting with you on this site!

    New SIPS Sleeve Procedure

Dr Enochs is also my doctor I am having SIPS or SADI-S Monday 3/16/2015 I had RNY 7/11/2014 So this will be a revision for me. I am currently down almost 97lbs so far with the RNY, but I am having complications with ulcers and hernias. How are you doing Mojo56?
  3. Auckland too. Surgery April 25. Excited but starting to get a little nervous. It's revision surgery (had a band - didn't work out) who is your surgeon? I have dr Lopez. X
  4. Ok I'm a complete failure and don't know what to do or what my options are. In 2013 I had the sleeve I lost 80 plus pounds but I stopped losing and I had more I needed to lose. So in 2015 I went in and had my sleeve revised to the gastric bypass. I only lost twenty pounds in a year. I'm so frustrated so I kinda gave up and went back to my bad habits. I weighed and I'm starting to gain my weight back I'm scared and don't want to gain it back so I did the 5 day pouch test and it didn't do anything. I don't get sick with anything and no longer have any restriction. I am hoping that there is something I can do. Any ideas or suggestions I would really appreciate it.

    Why Aren't You Losing Weight?

Actually, Saturday I plan on talking to my doc about revision to a sleeve. So far he's saying no. But I am saying yes. Not sure who will win this one. ;o)
  6. The band goes around your stomach (on the inside) to make the pouch so you can't eat as much. So yeah, you would need surgery. You should look at all WLS options before making a decision. So like Pooly said, you might want to look into the RNY - that would help you get over the Reese's because you would dump when you ate sugar. I don't know much about that, I have the band, but it doesn't sound fun! If you were to get the band it is with you for awhile. You wouldn't want to get the band and have it removed one month later - that would be another surgery. So, again, you should look at all the WLS options before making a decision and having to have some sort of revision.
  7. I chose Dr. Kelly also, I had surgery on Tuesday and leave TJ this morning. When I got here there was a girl that was leaving that had a revision and she looked amazing. Her revision was supposedly a tough one but she seemed to be at the same place as the rest of us 3 days out. I had no pain and very little nausea, I stopped taking the pain mess and anti nausea meds at day two. There were 5 of us done over the period of time that I was here and all have had the same experience. I chose Dr Kelly bc I felt comfortable with all of the phone conversations we had prior, he has American credentials that my own physicians checked out, he does not work with the brokers, I did not have to send any money before hand. Those were my main reasons, everyone's is going to be different. If you speak to Dr. Kelly remember that he does not work with brokers so if you are contacted besides anyone but Omar then you are not actually talking to Dr Kelly. The brokers are playing not so fair.

    Regret Doing This

I had a revision to bypass on December 13th and the first few weeks were a struggle. No energy, horrible recovery compared to my VSG. i had a brief moment of "what did I do" thinking and then it was gone. At just about the 3-week mark I suddenly got ALL the energy back.. like deep cleaned my entire house energy... almost overdid it! I was SO happy to feel back to normal. You'll get there, too.

    July Sleeve

Yes! I have lost approx. 45lbs. but I have been at a plateau since december. i will be having a follow up with the surgeon for checkup and will ask him what is going on but I have a feeling i'm not getting in enough protein and haven't been nearly as active as i should be! Are you considering a revision?

Got a souvenir pic of my revision...sorry if your squeamish but I thought it was pretty interesting....my stomach in the first pic looks flat because the rods had it pinned. They were able to cut out the excess dilated portion the stomach and reshape it. The first go around, the surgeon did not get as much as he should have. I call my new stomach a sausage link from the second pic

    Band To Sleeve (New Member)

I had the band to sleeve revision on 3/22/12, and am loving it! If you are on facebook, I would recommend the facebook page "Failed Lap-Bands and Realize Bands". It's a fantastic source of information as well, and just about everyone on there has either had a revision, or are trying to get one. I had my band in 2007 and it didn't work well for me. Through various trials and errors, we ended up emptying it in 2009. I was "stuck" and "sliming" every single day! No more!! Since getting the sleeve, life has been so much more enjoyable!
  13. Yes definitely get it out sooner than later. I had a band put in - in 2002 and just removed this January 24. It was severely eroded - and had done nothing for the longest time - except make me vomit and wear all the enamel off my teeth, so I have had to have extensive dental work. I am now 4 months healed and am going to Dr Garcia in Mexico for a revision. I couldn't wait any longer here in Canada - because of my job I had to find a time to suit the company, so in 2 weeks from TODAY I will be sleeved. Good luck on your journey - like Nichole said you will find lots of us here.

    what should I do?

Hey Paul, Gotcha!:Banane30: I wish you lots of luck on your trip to Mexico to be banded. Is the cost of banding too high in the land of the long white cloud also? If you have private health insurance you only have to pay $3,500 dollars out of pocket here in Australia, and that covers lifetime fills and maintenance ie revision surgery etc. Susannah
  16. I know, it's weird--I thought it was some sort of deformity at first, was all set to call my surgeon and ask him what-the-heck-kind-of-alien-device-he'd-inserted-as-an-experiment... Heehee. Seriously though...I've been wearing size 10 for the last month-and-some, and I'll be into size 8 jeans by mid-December. I actually LOST weight over Thanksgiving!!! It's been almost 5 months post-op. And I'm starting to think I might have to revise my target weight upward. If I hit 130, I'm honest-to-god going to look like a coat-hanger. I'm thinking that 140 is a good goal for someone of my height and build.

    Mexico or States

Someone slap me (but not hard) if this is a violation of something. I hope it's okay to post this here but if it's not, just tell me and I will delete it. Here is the latest (Sunday, Oct 15th) post from the lady who had her band removed in Mexico and was revised to a bypass at the same time. I cut and pasted the whole thing. Hi everyone. Again I want to say I love you all and thank you for being my friends. Let me tell you the latest. I went in for a CT scan on Friday and was expecting just that but oh no, it was so much more. They put an IV in me and shot die in my arm that felt like fire, I had to drink gross stuff and well and shoving that same gross stuff into my feeding tube making me dry heave. I wasn't expecting the IV and so I started tearing up when I got the shot. You guys have no idea, my arms are all black and blue and I've been through so much pain, I didn't want anymore. So there I am sobbing and the doctor is telling me that I have the largest leak he's ever seen and I will have to have surgery again. Of course I start bawling and I can't believe what I'm hearing. He goes on to ask me why I got this done in Mexico and blah blah blah. I just asked for my husband and I was a mess. Nick kept telling me I don't believe this hunny, you are not in pain like you have a large leak, your drains are not filling up that fast, I don't believe you need surgery again. He calls the Dr. here. Dr. Oh (who I can't stand) and he instructs us to come to his office. On the way over Nick calls Dr. Rumbaut who tells him that I will NOT have to have another surgery and he was pissed that they upset me. If I do have a "large" leak Dr. Rumbaut said it will heal. He once had a patient that had a 300cc leak and it healed. He said a lot more but I don't have the energy to write. We get to Dr. Oh's office and again said, well they can do whatever they want in Mexico and not worried about being sued but here in the US we have to worry about our practices (yes he said this) and so your case is too complicated and I'm only one surgeon so I don't want to take on your care. He basically kicked us out. He told me to go to the U of Washington to see specialists. When we called Dr. Rumbaut he said NO WAY. He gave me the reasons why he didn't want me to go to UofW but I'm not going to share them on here. He swore he would find me a doc here who would see me through this. So basically I"m back to not drinking anything through my mouth. Nick e-mailed him all the pics from the CT scan. He believes in his heart of heart that I will heal and will NOT have to go to surgery. He said if there is some unforseen reason I have to he will pay for Nick and I to come back and he can repair the leak through the inside therefore going through my mouth. He doesn't see this happening. I'm so pissed because every doctor I see I face prejudice about going to Meixco and then have to justify why I did both surgeries at the same time. I'm sick of it and so is Dr. Rumbaut. I believe in my surgeon. I'm so tired guys and it takes everything I have to not get depressed. My husband is amazing and so is my family and friends but it's just so hard. I have a long road ahead of me, I need to find the strength. Love to you all. Sorry I'm not on here that much, but my energy level is for shit.

    RNY or Mini Gastric Bypass?

I had an MGB done as a revision surgery after a failed sleeve gastrectomy. So far (2 months out) I'm doing very good and I'm really happy with the procedure. My main concern with the MGB is GAS. Really bad, bad, bad GAS problem. I have red in a MGB dedicated forum about it and as far I know there is nothing you can do. If there is someone that can help....please jump in!
  19. When I originally went to see my doctor, my BMI was 49; I'm 5'7" and I weighed 315 lbs. He told me that really the only serious option for me was the gastric bypass. He said that a person with as much weight to lose as I have does best with the gastric bypass, because it provides the most weight loss. I have heard other doctors say the same thing. Second, if you read these boards you will find many people who have had revisions from other WLS (both band and sleeve) to the gastric bypass because of various problems with those other forms. I decided I only want one WLS ever. Third, as others on this thread have said, the gastric bypass is no more "radical" than a sleeve; both will require Vitamins for the rest of your life, both involve significant changes to your stomach, etc. The gastric bypass provides weight loss because of malabsorption, restricted pouch size, and possibly reduction in Ghrelin (the hormone that triggers hunger). One of the side effects many gastric bypass patients experience is dumping syndrome when either poor foods (high fat, high sugar, various other bad things) are consumed or too much food is consumed or "stuck" (often because food has not been chewed sufficiently). Although the symptom is unpleasant, it acts as a "teaching tool" to change bad behaviors, which is a very positive outcome. In the end you will have to make the decision on your own. You are the one who will have to live your life with whatever surgery you choose. The people on this forum are pro-gastric bypass, since this is a gastric bypass forum. If you are really leaning toward the sleeve, you might want to go on the sleeve boards and ask around there about that surgery, to get a different slant on this issue. Good luck and best wishes on whatever choice you make.
  20. One thing I would caution you about regarding the sleeve - it is not less invasive, even though that seems to be a big reason some people choose it. Yes, your intestines are not re-routed, but hey, most of your stomach is actually removed for good! you can't get that back if there are problems. With GB, everything is still there and can theoretically be revised back to normal (I think I've seen it called a takedown) For me, I'm not a huge volume eater; it's more about eating the junk - the fast food, the carbs, etc. I can stick to low carb for awhile but then go off-track and lose my momentum, get all the cravings back, etc. So I have chosen bypass b/c I need the possibility of dumping to keep me straight, at least long enough for me to learn better longterm habits. Just my 2 cents.
  21. Leroy Mann This is absolutely how I feel.I already chose a half ass lapband that Has caused me pure misery since 2004 not to mention .my teeth and gums are screwed and I have severe acid reflux and port pain...and...I am the vomit queen!!!!!The biggest reason is that I only initially lost about 40 pounds and have really struggled.....I am as fat ass as ever and miserable...seeking a revision to what I should have done in the first place!!!bypass!!!!and for anyone who wants to raise the ...."re routing invasive euphemism"...spare me...my esophagus is screwed up and my stomach is beat up and the amount of slime and vomit is sickening...port pain...please...I would be crazy to subject my very lapband abused stomach to cutting 85% out....I am lapband miserable and in pain as I type....mmm....silicone...,should of thought about that before I developed breast cancer....just saying.....,,silicone...ok..
  22. Hello Friends! I had a lap band done years ago and have a ticker here showing that and my status as lap band patient. I now have had the revision from lap band to bypass and would like to add a new ticker and change my patient status. Can anyone give me the directions on how to change all this? I can't find it anywhere and don't remember how I did it 14 years ago! If anyone from Bariatric Pal sees this, please include an instructional section to the website. Thanks!

    June sleevers, check-in!

I had a revision from lap band to the sleeve done on June 27th. When I went in for my surgery I weighed 227. Here is the real kicker, I am now on day 4 post op & I have not had anything solid in 7 days now, I have not even drank much of anything besides water or isopure the past 3 days and nothing at all for 2 days before that and I now weigh MORE than I did when I went in for my surgery!! It's incredibly frustrating! Especially when I am in so much pain from the surgery, to not see the scale move downward is like a slap in the face! So incredibly discouraging! I hope things change REAL soon!! At this point I wouldn't suggest a revision for anyone. The pain has been a hundred times worst than it was with my lap band surgery & to not see any results while you have all this pain is quite simply depressing! I'm at 229 right now.... I got up to 234 right after surgery! Everything I've read or watched on you tube about people having a revision from the band to a sleeve they have all been very positive and said it was the best thing they have ever done. I'm hoping that in the next week or so I can change my story to say I feel that way also.
