To tell or not to tell...

Do what you are comfortable with. I was sleeved 22 months ago and this was a revision. I have told everyone and I discuss it on FB. I need lots of support so I get it everywhere. I know people that only told their spouse and that's it. I personally do not know anyone that has successfully walked this road alone. There is no rule on how many people you need to tell. Be sure to attend support groups in person. You will learn so much and you will meet others that share your experiences. The support from our loved ones is needed but unless they have walked in our shoes, they will never truly understand the challenges and frustrations. It is totally worth it though.

    Lap band removal and mortified.

For the 1st year or so I followed the diet to the letter. Slowly over the years the old habits crept back in. I sip of pop turned into half a little can to a full little can and so on. Same with sweets. A chip here turned into a cookie there. So by the time the band came off, I did the full indulgence. Maybe not the smartest move but after so many years, it was nice to feel "normal" when going out to eat. I had my food funeral and then jumped right back on the horse and started the liquid diet and post surgical diet all over again. It sucks but gotta loose the 45lbs I gained. So far, after having the revision I don't really crave anything yet. Hope it stays that way.

    Lap band removal and mortified.

I had the band for 7 years before I had to have it removed due to the slippage. I lost 101lbs in the first year and pretty much maintained that for the duration. When I had to get my first unfill from the slip I gained 20lbs then lost it with fills. The second time around I gained the 20lbs but could loose it. When it came out I gained another 20lbs. I did find that if I ate regular size meals, that I didn't graze because I was full for a longer period of time then when I had the band. I got my revision on 10/13 and including the pre op diet, I am down 20lbs. Try not to stress yourself out to much. Just try eating large health meals and you will do ok.

    Pain after Lap Band Removal

I just read your response for this person as well. I'm definitely trying to uplift my spirits in every way! I guess it's all about calorie counting and keeping active! I wonder if after so many years, one's stomach does actually shrink. Hi! Life without the band has been good and bad. I am constantly struggling with trying to lose weight. I eat between 1200 to 1500 calories per day. I walk 30 to 45 minutes each day. I also do Zumba 3 times a week for 60 mins and strength training twice a week. I feel like I am not getting very far with weight loss. I haven't gained. As far as physically, I feel soooooo much better! I don't have reflux anymore and I can sleep on 1 pillow instead of 8 pillows. I still feel some restriction due to the smaller size of my stomach, I can eat more but i get full usually on half a sandwich. I still try to focus on healthier options. No more vomiting thankfully. Occasionally I have some heartburn but it is very mild and I have a history of it prior to band anyways, but definately has improved since band was removed. Today is October 4th and I can easily do ab workouts at Zumba class. I actually started working on abs about 4 weeks after removal, starting slowly and knowing my limitations and stopping when too uncomfortable. I do not regret the removal at all. It is such a relief for me. I am planning on revising to bypass hopefully next month. Best of luck to you on your band removal, you will feel better once removed. Hopefully I answered your question. If there is anything else specific that you would like to know, I would be happy to tell you anything that can help

    October sleevers

just had my revision (band to sleeve) on Wednesday. OMG...my tummy hurts.
  6. I had my revision done on September 4th. I have lost 35 pounds as of today. I can eat about 3/4 of a cup of food at a time, however I am sure I could eat more. I eat Protein first then vegetables. I do not eat bread, Cookies or anything like that. If I have a snack it usually is veggies. I have gone from dormant to about 15 minutes on the bike....I know isn't much but I am working on it. I rarely eat more than 600 calories a day. I keep a diary on my iphone of everything I eat and drink and also my steps and exercise. I am having a hard time getting my protein above 50 with drinking a Protein Drink. I guess my question is this. Am I doing everything correctly? Why only one pound this week? Your help would be appreciated. Thanks
  7. After years of battling with the Lapband, and after months and months of battling with doctors and the insurance company, I am excited to announce that I have finally been APPROVED for my revision from Lapband to Gastric Bypass! My pre-op appointment is December 3rd, and my surgery date is December 7th!! I am thoroughly ecstatic and so nervous!!!
  8. Today marks 6 months since my revision surgery (4/30/15). -> I am down 72lbs -> I am currently losing between 8 and 10lbs a month. I am happy with that! -> I am still seeing a personal trainer and feel great! -> food is still not exciting. That is a good thing. -> My hair started falling out in clumps around 3 months post op. It finally stopped a week or so ago. I am now waiting to see new growth. -> I went on two vacations and came home lighter from both. That never happened with the band. -> I started getting frequent heartburn a month ago. This was fixed with OTC 24 hr Nexium. -> Had trouble with chewable Vitamins. I started using Patches from PatchMD. I get my bloodwork done next week so I will see if they are working. -> Still loving my sleeve. Just wish I did it sooner! I have attached a picture. First pic is pre band, middle is pre sleeve and last is current. I still have a long way to go but feel like I will finally get there!
  9. I have my second appointment of SD coming up on November 9th. I was going for the sleeve but am having second thoughts now and looking at the bypass as well. I've done all my requirements except sleep study which is next Thursday and I'm still on the fence for sleeve or bypass. I mean what if something happens to my sleeved stomach and they need to take it out? What then? Or revision? Can't have a bypass after sleeve. And a lot of revisions end up in bypass anyway. I don't know. I don't have to really pick until I schedule but they all suggest the sleeve for me.

    Surgery tomorrow 10/28

I have some liquid norco. And as far as the pain surgical pain goes, it's not that bad. These darn gas pains are killing me. As I sit here awake, so early in the morning, I am reminded of a song with a slight revision of the lyrics. To the tune of "Gimme Three Steps" by Lynard Skynard. As I sit here in bed, with gas pains so bad. I'm a shakin like a leaf on a tree. Oh gimme three steps, gimme the steps mister, just to pass some and not hurt so bad.

    Esophageal Manometry

Sounds like you are too tight. You need some fluid removed for sure. I too had dilated esophagus. I was so worried that I was causing permanent damage. After speaking to my current surgeon, he suspects that my band was placed too high to begin with. When he did an intra operative EGD, he said my esophagus looked ok, thankfully. My fill level never passed 5.25. It was ideal at 4.85 cc. My friend had the same previous surgeon and she was at 7.5!!! I wish I had never gotten the band. It caused me to have so many problems. Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful of the 80 pounds that I lost, but vomiting all the time is not my idea of a fun life. I had mine removed just 3 months ago due to slip. I am revising to RNY scheduled for 11/30. I should have done bypass in the beginning, but hey I learned my lesson.

Band to Sleeve lose more slowly?

I lost 115 pounds during the first year that I had the band. Unfortunately, I slowly started gaining the weight back and complications eventually forced me to have the band emptied (and I gained all of my weight back). On November 20th I will be having the band to sleeve revision surgery. I would LOVE to have the same weight loss during the first year as I did with the band, but I am thinking it will be slower this time around. I would still be happy with 1 pound a week though because at least that would have me headed in the right direction.
  13. Pain with band placement was tolerable. I think I took liquid vicodin 5 days post op the just Tylenol. Band and port removal? That was very painful because he also removed the scar tissue as well. I had IV Dilaudid and then percocets up to almost 2 weeks. The port site was very painful and also deeper inside from where he removed the scar tissue. I am really hoping my revision to RNY on 11/30 will be a breeze compared to band and port removal a few months ago.

    Lap band removal and mortified.

I started having problems with my band April of 2014. I started to gain slowly a pound or 2 per every few months. I had my band unfilled last November 2014 because I found out I had complications- slip. I initially lost 80 pounds with the band. I have gained about 25 pounds in the past year and a half. I had my band removed Aug 2015. It is possible that someone does NOT gain "all of their weight back". I exercise with Zumba 3 times a week on average, walk 3 to 4 miles per day when I'm not doing Zumba. I also try to still eat high protein low carb and that has kept my weight from climbing any higher. I am revising to bypass on 11/30. You can gain control, it's not easy, but definately doable.
  15. I'm disappointed that there is only one response here. I have a band (slipped), and would love to know whether the sleeve or bypass would be better or has worked better and why. Once you leave the land of the Banded, you really only have a few choices. And they're not reversible, anymore input would be awesome ???? I was a successful bander until it eroded .. Last year I revised to bypass . Sleeve wasn't even an option for me. Reason being I wasn't going to have "another wls surgery again" I wanted this to be the last one and my doctor said the sleeve is sometimes the first step to bypass.. I wanted the gold standard.. It's so much easier than the band was and I am wayyy healthier now than I was then. I can eat chicken and veggies no problem!!!!!

  18. Hi Fatty, what made you take the step band to sleeve? I had my band out in May 2015 and I am gaining weight like crazy but I just can't make my mind up to go the surgery route again. Gaining weight like crazy (due to complications with the band forcing it to be emptied) is exactly the reason I am having the band to sleeve revision surgery. I know that I can't do it alone (or I wouldn't have gained back so much weight), so having the sleeve as a tool to help me is the best option to meet my weight loss goals. Surgery isn't for everyone, but it is definitely something to consider. Good luck to you no matter what route you take!
  19. Hi, I had revision from lap band to RNY in October of 2014. I hated the band and so far RNY is way better. I hope all goes well with your revision as well. I'm sure it will be much better than the band.

    REGRETS

no regrets here. I wasn't revised either. love my sleeve!
  21. I was supposed to have a revision done yesterday but they had to abort my RNY surgery after removal of the bags because it eroded my stomach so now I have to wait 3 months, hope I heal and hope the insurance will cover another go at it before I can get the bypass. I had my band placed in 2010 and gained all 80 pounds I lost right back.
  22. Simple ...removed band and revised to sleeve

    from lap band to bypass,,anyone?

@ I assume you're talking to me because it was my revision that just failed. The doc said I can try again in about three months but now I have to hope I heal, hope the insurance approves another go, and come up with all the money for out of pocket and travel expenses
  24. Try not to let this get you down. I am sorry , I am sure it was a disappointment when you woke up. I wanted my revision performed in one surgery, but my surgeon said it wasn't safe and my insurance company also said the same thing. I had to have my band removed 3 months ago due to slip and tons of scar tissue was removed at that time (which by the way was very painful). The surgeon is making me wait 8-12 weeks to allow stomach to heal. I am scheduled for RNY on 11/30/15. It is a riskier surgery when the surgeon's do revisions all at the same time. Most surgeons that I have heard make people wait and perform the 2 step process which is more safe. Give your body this time to heal and go back later for your bypass
