i had the gastric sleeve in 4/2015
FrankyG replied to tamila0624's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Stop eating junk food. Why on earth would you do that? You had major surgery to try to help you get healthy - not just to lose weight and still eat total crap... time to get your head on straight, because this will hurt your health if you continue this path!! Losing weight because you are basically starving yourself is going to have serious consequences - you'll lose your hair, your skin and nails will look awful and you're going to be exhausted and have major Vitamin deficiency. You're losing muscle mass as well without enough Protein and other food building blocks. Proteins like fish, chicken, eggs, low fat dairy (yogurt, cottage cheese, skim milk). Then healthy veggies - avocado, Beans, green leafy stuff, broccoli/cauliflower, squash... there are TONS of things to eat that are good and good for you. Health fats if there is any room: cook with coconut oil, olive oil, try guacamole, hummus... light mayo can be added to some canned chicken or tuna (and I add in green onion and some spices) for an easy and protein packed meal. Try to eat something like a boiled or scrambled egg with a little shredded cheese on it for Breakfast. Drink a glass of milk or have a container of (low sugar - maybe try greek) yogurt an hour or so later. Fix a bunch of chicken breasts (using spices and citrus) so you don't have to think when it's time for a meal - have one of those with some veggies. Anything is better than what you're doing! What is your doctor/nutritionist saying about your horrible diet so far? Because they should be really, really concerned and trying to give you better menu plans to work with... otherwise start looking on here and online for decent sleeve menu/recipes ASAP. -
My routine is wake up, drink some Water. 30 minutes later I have some yogurt and fruit or a Protein shake. do laundry or computer tasks while I digest. Get to the gym 30-60 minutes later.

Today was a painful day. Tried to just stay with Tylenol but it didn't do much good. Finally broke down at 7:00p and took pain meds and feel sooooo much better. Duh! Sutures really felt like they were pulling...best way to describe it. It hurt! No problems eating today or getting liquids in. A good day. I think that caffeine is not agreeing with me. I LOVE iced tea but it is upsetting my tummy & making me hungry. Will observe this closely in days to come. Taking Gas-X a couple or three times a day and it's helping. Gas is much better. Starting to feel 'skinnier' :rolleyes I only have one more (scheduled) day off. I hope it's enough. Will try to take a nap or two tomorrow. Maybe the extra rest will help. Didn't do any walking today except around the house and with DD at Old Navy for a bit. I was banded on 12/5 and have been struggling. I have a post op appointment tomorrow and am looking for some advice. The only time I do not have discomfort is when my tum is totally empty. The doc put me on soft foods right from the get go.... in the hospital. (cottage cheese, yogurt etc) Every time I eat....4oz of anything, even drink, I have pain and discomfort. Feels like a big fist in my upper stomach, at the highest incision location. Not sure if it is heart burn, or other issue. I have been taking the medication (protonix) and gas x. I have also been sliming after eating and sometimes just a Protein drink. Like I said.... the only time I am comfortable is when I do not consume anything. I will go over this with surgeon tomorrow altho I would really appreciate some feedback to be prepared for the visit. Thanks in advance!! I have a 10cc band without any filled at surgery time.

19 days later after surgery and this liquid diet sucks
jerz replied to mrsb12's topic in Food and Nutrition
I'm 2 weeks post op and my surgeon is not so strict. One week clear liquid. 2nd weeks is shakes, pudding and yogurt. 3 rd week is puréed food like chili, tuna etc. 4th week is solid. I think every doc and nut is different. -

It gets easier once you're able to eat yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, refried beans. Hang in there. It gets better for sure. -
BariActive calcium, Multi and Iron
BeanieSprouts posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Hi friends! My name is Jacqui, and I had surgery on 3/14/18. I was doing well with my vitamins until surgery. Now they make me terribly sick, sometimes to the point of throwing up. My doctor says to take them with yogurt, like crush them up in it, but I can't eat enough yogurt to get the whole multivitamin and I'm still sick afterward. Does anyone have experience with these? Or an alternative vitamin regimen? I would like to keep these ideally as they are the ones covered by my insurance. For reference, I take two multi in the morning, two calcium around 10 am, two more calcium around 4:30 pm and Iron around 7 or 8. The multi and the iron are the worst. -
My dr. said absolutely NO to diet coke or pepsi because it has caffeine in it which acts as a diuretic and is not good. You want to drink water and more water and keep well hydrated. I wouldn't touch anything with caffeine in it, but that's just my opinion. Luck to you. BTW my 7 day diet was strictly Carnation Instant Breakfast and water...no yogurt or anything like that. I did have broth one night because I just simply needed something hot in my tummy. That 7 days was really really tough. I got the band on July 18 and was doing amazingly well till today when I realized I'm hungrier than I have been since the surgery, which means the swelling has gone down and I really need to keep a handle on things till I get my first fill on Aug 30. Buckle down hard. I know you can do this pre-op diet.

A year out from surgery, what is your daily diet consist of?
Bufflehead replied to Gail Ann's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I need to take off a few lbs, so I am in weight loss mode right now. And this is pretty much the way I was eating at a year out, when I was in full time weight loss mode. Here's my diary from Friday Early morning: fat free hot cocoa made w/ cashew milk Breakfast: 3 oz chopped chicken breast Lunch: 3 oz chopped chicken breast + 1/5 oz green Beans + 1/2 T. light champagne vinaigrette Afternoon snacks: small apple, Protein shake Dinner: roast brussels sprouts, curried tuna & kale w/ an egg baked on top After dinner: Greek yogurt, roasted rosemary walnuts & fig Totals for the day: 1,095 calories, 93 grams protein, 87 carbs, 13 grams Fiber If you want to see diaries on a regular basis, friend a bunch of post-surgery people on myfitnesspal, that way you can check their diaries every day ETA: at a year out, I was probably eating more like 2 oz of chicken breast at a meal -- at that point I don't think I could have eaten as much as 3 oz in a sitting. -
What is your favourite canadian hockey....
Yoda replied to CanMacDaddy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
One thing to consider: Dr. C's clinic gives free fills/de-fills for only five years (after which they charge a fee) whereas at the TLBC they provide free fills/de-fills for life. Also, Dr. C's clinic uses Optifast (I don't know if that is an extra charge or if that is included in the total fee...others can respond to that) for their pre-op diet (to get rid of the fat in the liver) but TLBC does not rely on Optifast....it is a different "food" diet depending on your individual circumstances (ie. cottage/cheese yogurt diet and chicken)....personally I find that more appealing than doing optifast (& I do have the experience to comment on that because I went thru the entire optifast program a few years ago). Just more info to consider is all. As was said above, you wouldn't buy the first car you look at....something this serious I would recommend checking into 2 or 3 places and then making the best decision based on your own personal perspectives/circumstances. I have nothing but amazing things to say about TLBC in all aspect; both pre and post op.....but I have also heard only good things about Dr. C. -

That's great....congrats with your decision and journey! I'd just like to say that at TLBC, I had my consultation with both the coord AND the surgeon (ie. one after the other). So I don't want folks to think they don't have a consult with the surgeon at TLBC. I also want to point out that TLBC also uses Inamed. They have use of all the various bands, including Inamed. They pick the best suited to YOUR body. I just don't want folks to think TLBC doesn't use Inamed when they do. As far as Optifast....I agree, it is either a negative or a positive. Personally, I went thru the entire optifast program a few yrs ago and I was more than happy to NOT use optifast for this surgery and my yogurt/cottage cheese diet was highly effective. Obviously, the effectiveness depends directly on the individual's compliance. -
Shopping on a budget
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Rebeccaabrooks86's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am pre-op so don't have specific experience on post-op food shopping but I have plenty of experience in having a tight budget. -Read labels (but try to eat food that doesn't have a lot of ingredients ie, whole foods, commodities) -Buy in-season -Try generic and store brands -Compare price per serving (example: large tub of yogurt versus individual cups) -Use your freezer -stay away from highly processed/packaged foods -shop local (do you have a farmers market or CSA available?) Best of luck. I am sure others would have some experience to share. -
Surgery Date 02/27/14...Anyone else on the same day?
crysclev replied to crysclev's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I definitely will ask! I have my 2 week post op appt. tomorrow so I will be drilling them on whether or not I can add items to my current menu. Right now it consists of drinkable yogurts or blended Soups with Clear Liquids. I will survive either way but I would love to have something else! -
You shouldn't have yogurt or applesauce till your dr clears you for puréed foods. If you have them you will possibly slow down your healing and set yourself back.

I am scheduled for surgery on Thursday, I am just wondering for those of you who have had surgery what kind of yogurt did you get? I am able to have some on the 3rd day I was going to get stuff on Wednesday just to be prepared.
-
I ate yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta bake and chicken salad... not much else sounded good.
-
I am about 3 weeks post op and on the purée phase for the next three weeks. I am at a loss as to what to eat, as everything I have tried tastes horrible except for yogurt and broth. It also doesn’t help that I cannot keep down my chewable vitamins and the protein shakes are making me feel nauseous all the time. Any ideas of other things to eat?
-
I have been having the same issue so I called my Dr.'s office. They told me that I can take milk of magnesia... I'm having surgery on Tuesday & was concerned about not having gone for like 5 days! TMI, I know.... My diet since Oct. 2nd. has been 3 Protein shakes & 2 diet yogurts... SF Jello/SF popsicles.
-
Yah, no yogurt, cottage cheese, etc until purée phase. I was doing great at first but now I'm struggling a little to get all my Protein and Water in. Not because of the inability to hold it, just cause the idea of another Protein Shake makes me ill. My check in is on Friday so I am praying they let me move up a few days early that day. Cross your fingers for me! Sent from my iPad using VST

Cant Live Without Products?
CaliKat replied to made2beme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start looking for a bento box. Once you are on solids- you will prob want a way to pack a few things in one place. I know you can find them on Amazon or at Whole Foods- but they are about $30. Keep you eye out local for something that can work for you and you may find one for a bargain. A bento will be perfect for a few slices of meat, a bit of cheese, some yogurt dip and maybe nuts/veggiesz. -
I mostly eat the same things for breakfast and lunch B: either Quark (a yogurt-consistency cheese) or Oikos Triple 0 Greek Yogurt with 1/4 - 1/2 c. frozen blueberries (I eat it at work, so the bb defrost just a bit on the drive in so they're not SOOO frozen) L: eggface's ricotta bake with spinach baked in. I usually make a double recipe, cook it in a mini loaf pan that makes 8 mini loaves. Keep 4 in my fridge, freeze 4. Sometimes I'll have leftovers for lunch, but typically its ricotta bake. Snacks - the Sargento nut/cheese packs, cheese slices, almonds, parm chips with guac or hummus (sometimes I'll have this for lunch as well)
