A Sample Menu for the day

Almost 3 months out and this is what a usual day looks like for me Breakfast 1: Protein Bar (pre-workout) Breakfast 2: Scrambled eggs with cheese (sometimes I add smoked salmon) with fruit Breakfast 2 alt: Yogurt with Bear Naked Granola and ground flax seed Snack 1: BabyBel Light Cheese and Turkey Jerky or Turkey Snack Stick Lunch: Grilled Peppers/Onions with chicken Sausage or Turkey Burger lunch Alt: 1/2 Ham and Cheese Sandwich Snack 2: Power Crunch Protein Bar Snack 2 alt: 1/3 cup Mexicali dip with healthier option chips (Chia tortilla chips or veggie chips or some type of wheat thin like cracker) Dinner: Not Much. I am not usually very hungry for dinner. Maybe a small amount of chicken, turkey burger, salmon with veggies. Sometimes I will make a pizza on a tortilla with turkey pepperoni. I will also make fish tacos once in a while. Cod cooked in a skillet on the stove then flaked into a soft tortilla with lettuce, cheese and cilantro lime tarter sauce. Throughout the day I also consume 1 - 20oz bottle of Isopure Protein Drink to supplement more protein. This also counts towards my Fluid intake for the day.
  2. Saturday night I had a stomach ache that would not let up, it continued into Sunday. No nausea, no vomiting, diarrhea, just a really annoying ache/crampy feeling. Was able to eat normally, normal BM's. I went about my business and even did my 2.5 mile jog Sunday AM. I tried eating a yogurt Sunday afternoon and shortly thereafter I could barely stand up straight. Called my surgeon and he suggested I go to the ER since it was bugging me for so long. I went, had blood work and a CT scan-- everything was normal. Doc wrote it off to menstrual cramps; but I know my body and know that I never get crippling cramps. (I have an IUD which makes my periods light-non-existent). I'm wondering if I'm suddenly becoming more sensitive to sugars. I haven't dumped on anything to this point. I've eaten that brand/flavor of yogurt before-- but this time I couldn't even get through the cup before my stomach began revolting. But no other symptoms that I've read about for dumping (sweaty, racing heart etc). An overall odd experience. Well I'm glad I got confirmation everything is fine on the inside-- and if nothing else; I've got reason to be more vigilant with my sugar intake!
  3. Thank you for your responses. Mistie - Before surgery I also drank a lot with my meals. I could drink well over 20 oz with each meal. It was quite an adjustment getting away from drinking with my meals. Are you saying you are only getting in 17 oz fluids total or 17 oz of Water? You really need to watch out for dehydration. Unfortunately dehydration actually makes it harder to drink which I found out the hard way. If you are only getting in a total of 17 oz daily from water, Protein shakes, broths, Soups, yogurt, Jello and/or pudding please contact your surgeon as you may need IV hydration.

    3-days Post-Op (Liquid)

@@_Kate_ I have tried EVERYTHING. I cannot handle just plain lukewarm liquids or full liquids. I have to have them either cold or warm/hot. I am hoping that tomorrow will be better. I was able to get a 5 oz cup of yogurt with Protein powder down in an hour and a half, woo!!!

    3-days Post-Op (Liquid)

Today was Day 4 - I got 62 oz of Protein in with 42 oz of Fluid (counting Water, juice, Protein shake, yogurt, and soup). As soon as I am at the 4 oz. mark, I start getting this heart burn feeling in my chest. At least today was better than yesterday. It give me hope! Thank you all for your experiences!

Just got sleeve 3 weeks ago

The unflavored works good for me mixed with a flavor pack like hi-c or lemonade. I try to stay away from adding milk, to keep my calories down. I also do yogurt which gives you about 8-15 grams depending on what kind. Sugar free protein bars. There's quite a few foods and drinks that'll get you there. You always have the community here to help!☺ It gets easier once you can eat more.

    Protein

I am 3 months out, but to make sure I get my Protein I put a scoop of GENEPRO powder in my yogurt, which is usually my afternoon snack. It does not change the taste at all to me, and between that and my premier Protein shake for Breakfast, that's 60gms. I am now at 80-100gms, but by lunchtime I am more then halfway there, just a suggestion.
  9. mine was fairly progressive, although not quite that fats, mine was no liquid stage straight on to purees - I was swollowing pills and eating yogurt hours out of surgery. Purees was a week or two, then soft foods (mushed tuna and eggs on a light cracker etc fine) for a couple of weeks and then normal food as tolerated. I had no issues with this speed and healed perfectly. the thing that shocked me the most was swallowing these great big pills hours out of surgery - it as a little sore but the surgeon insured me it wouldn't do me any harm (he's done hundreds and hundreds of surgeries)

    September surgeries!

I was sleeved 9/28/15. I struggle to get in enough calories to stay out of starvation mode but I'm doing ok hitting my Protein of 60 or more grams a day. I eat every morning one turkey sausage link, (almost) one egg and a tablespoon of shredded cheddar for breakfast. For morning snack a light baby bell cheese, lunch is 2oz of protein and a light laughing cow cheese wedge. I try to eat a light Greek yogurt for afternoon snack. dinner is about 2 oz of whatever protein I am making for my family for dinner. And if I haven't hit my protein for the day I'll have a cup of Kroger carb master chocolate milk (11grams protein in 8oz). I am trying to not do the protein shakes unless I have a really low day with food intake. I also can't eat more then just about the 2 oz at a time so that's why I have to do the Snacks in between. Some days I also will eat a cup of Smartlife light white cheddar popcorn for a snack. Even with the snacks and all most days I barley hit 600 calories. I track everything through my fitness pal.Thank you for sharing. Great info. What exactly is the amount to stay clear of starvation? I struggle to get in 400 to 500 calories daily unless I push to eat in between meals. My NUT said that at this point I should be between 600 & 800 calories a day to stay in weight loss mode and not hit starvation mode. That's why she suggested the popcorn or carbmaster milk.

  12. You have to be careful with Lean Cuisine and other prepared food. The sodium content is extremely high and it is not healthy. Eating it once a week is fine, but no more. Peanut Butter on soda crackers, grape/crackers/cheese for lunch greek yogurt definitely, get the low carb one. small amount of Dreamfield Pasta with tomato sauce or alfredo sauce, add some cheese to it small beef patty with frozen veggies cooked in the microwave (surely you can cook a hamburger patty) any meat with vegetables is perfect. Good luck. How about consulting a nutritionist, they have tons of ideas and could help you. But try to stay away from frozen prepared food other than vegetables. It is full of sodium and additives.

    October List of Surgery's

It sounds like your not getting enough to eat or drink going that far out. I'm having to take miralax every other day. And sometimes everyday. I take it with my water in the evening. My routine is working really well for me & I too never feel completely full, glad other's are experiencing this too. I just measure all food out so I don't eat more than 1/2 cup. My routine is a premiere Protein Shake in the morning 30g protein & I drink 1 16oz of water till lunch. At lunch I will eat 1/2 cup of chili, or ham & Beans, or cottage cheese with unflavored protein power, or yogurt with unflavored Protein powder. I get those 32oz Powerade zero fruit punch flavored & add a scoop of unflavored protein powder to it & drink it after lunch till dinner 21gr protein. Dinner is a small piece of grilled chicken 1/4c & 1/4 c cottage cheese. I drink my last 16oz water after dinner till bed. I put miralax every other night in my after dinner water. I have one snack a day of string cheese. That gives me my 64oz of water & over 60gr of protein. I haven't weighed but I can tell by my cloths I'm loosing. I'm not exercising but I'm walking for 30min. (somedays not every 2x a day). I was stuck in a rut too when everyone else lost so much more than I the 1st two weeks (5 lbs) for me, so I had to stay away from the scale. Your not a failure, you took a big chance to have surgery & I think you are very brave!!! You had your surgery 1 week after me so your a little over 3 weeks & I didn't feel like doing much or have energy till after the 3 weeks, & with my routine, I'm finally feeling like my old self. You will too! Give yourself time & maybe a routine like mine will help. If I don't get my water or protein I feel it the next day & can tell. Let me know how you are doing, I will be thinking about you!
  14. Thanks everyone, today thank goodness I am really not hungry and have hardly been eating, but I did get 60gms of Protein so far, 1 premier shake and unflavored GENEPRO with some yogurt, and then dinner should give me my 80-100gms The reason I cannot take a PPI is because prior to my surgery I had SIBO, which can come from using a PPI for an extended time. I really should not even take pepcid, but since it is not a PPI it seems to be OK and works just as well.

Smell of food makes me ill.

It normal but I hope your drinking protein shakes?! You will get sick f your only eating a yogurt.
  18. I try hard to make healthier versions of tastes I love. It takes being willing to experiment in the kitchen. For example, I went through 3 variations to make pancakes with protein powder. I don't buy diet foods so I am mostly trying to reimagine regular food. It can be little things like cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes or making a rice bowl without the rice or using quinoa instead. Tonight I made a really tasty 3 ingredient snack. I took unsweetened coconut shreds added 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, and enough water to blend. I whizzed it in the nutra bullet to make a paste then folded into half a cup of Greek yogurt. I swear it tastes like the inside of an almond joy! Next time I may add a tsp of raw cacao powder & a few almond slivers to get the complete taste.

  20. I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out I was fine up until about 2-3 days ago. Watching others eat fast food or even just normal food was ok with me. All of a sudden anytime someone cooks or brings food home, I literally dry heave. It only makes my appetite problem worse. Since I'm already having a very hard time eating anything. Today I've only had one 80 calorie yogurt. Food disgusts me right now, and I'm not liking this feeling.
  21. You will find out when you start eating more and feel the restriction. Since you just had surgery not to long ago, you really won't be eating any large amounts of anything for a while, no matter how hungry you feel. I think it took me at least 6 to 8 months beforeI felt like I could eat a decent amount. Now I do well to eat a full chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-a. Usually there is always some left. When my co-workers are with me, they don't order much food because they know I'm not going to finish everything and they have become accustomed to eating the rest lol. Yogurt is one of my favorite foods. I have honestly never tried cottage cheese. When I get a hunger craving now, I eat either yogurt or drink a boldthouse shake which has 32 grams of Protein in it. The shakes/smoothies have a lot of calories but its better than alternatives.

  23. Yesterday my whole schedule was out of whack. We went to the OAC meeting in LA, good but very poor turnout. I was off on my food schedule, Vitamins, etc. They had free food, fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, etc, so I ate, and a little while later ate again, I could not stop, just like I used to do before sleeve 8/3 of this year. Was full but managed to eat twice while we were there for about 3 hours. Later that day I was so hungry, have been hungry since week 2, yes I get all my liquids, Protein 100gms or more and vitamins, and pepcid, cannot take a PPI. I snacked in afternoon on some cheese and triscuits, we are allowed to have them. Anyway what was worse we went to dinner and I soooo overate, just kept shoving in the salmon, chicken and some veggies, all good stuff, but this was the first time I really thought it was coming back up. Still feel full this AM. Does anyone else do this and how do you stop. I am so grateful for my sleeve, but yesterday it felt like it was not 100% working. Feel depressed and so guilty, any comments or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

3 protein shakes a day Choice of SF Jello, SF Pudding, SF Popsicle, 4 oz FF cottage cheese, 4oz FF yogurt - 2 per day 1 broth based soup a day All the water I can drink.
  25. Thanks for your responses. So, how much soup should I have? I kind of thought that the sleeve would let me know when I'd had enough! I've got a lot to learn. Do I have to set the amount myself? I start on soft foods tomorrow. My NUT says to start with one egg and 1/4 cup of cottage cheese or yogurt.
