Hi, I can't believe its been 18 months for us. I am not at restriction and really trying hard to not overeat, continue to eat slow, chew well and the hardest thing has been having to wait to drink after meals. But its all worth it. I had been going to the gym 5 times a week but have really slowed down exercising because of work and home commitments; however, being ever so careful and thinking about what I put in my mouth has helped me to continue to lose weight ever so slowly but that's o.k. too. Good luck to all of us out there!

:thumbup:I am really excited. On Thursday evening I had my post op with my doc for my 2 weeks. The port pain I have been complaining about he stated was normal and would go away. He said if the fluid isn't gone in 4 weeks when I get my 1st fill he will remove it himself. BUT, the most exciting thing, I got the okay for mushies. So last night, Friday, I had one piece of fish in the food processor and also a little spaghetti. I never ate enough to feel full just satisfied. This morning had a 2lb. weight loss. Much as I have had in one day since 3 days post op. I am really excited. -
In September 2013, I was given the diagnosis of Ewings Sarcoma. I was 27. In short, I went through 10 months of grueling chemotherapy. I spent most of those 10 months in the hospital either recieving chemo, or so sick I needed to be hospitalized. I lost 70 pounds. I used to joke that my silver lining was that I at least wasn't so fat. I was declared NED in July 2014. Shortly, and I mean shortly after, I gained those 70 pounds back, and an additional 10. My oncologist sat me down one appointment and described the damage the chemotherapy had done to my body. "You have the body of a 60 year old." I just turned 28. I have been big my entire life. Before chemo, before cancer, I was still active. I couldn't run a marathon, but I could still hang with the best. After chemo was completely different. I could barely walk down my drive way, take a shower. I was out of breath for everthing. I sat with my husband and decided this is what we needed to do. I needed weight loss surgery. I can not reverse what the chemo did to my body, but I could get healthy and stop my weight from causing more damage. On November 22, 2016 I will be going in to have weight loss surgery. I am terrified of this journey, but I know that it will be worth it in the end.

Does anyone else feel like their Case Manager could careless about them? I sent in my paper work after my 6 month weight management requirement from my insurance on Monday 7/18/16. Along with messaging in the portal that I faxed it over and here it is Wednesday and I still haven't heard back saying if they have received it. During my 6 months every time I asked question, I got the same response and no answers. I understand her hands are tied because of the insurance approval process. But I just thought they would be more hands on with communication leading up to the surgery. I'm just frustrated. I have been dreaming about this surgery for 8 months and I am beyond excited to start my new life. I'm afraid not enough information is going to be provided to the insurance company and cause a delay in the approval. Although I am not currently medicated for my medical issues. I have many issues that are causing life to become very uncomfortable and my doctor is holding off prescribing anything until after I have the surgery to see if they rectify themselves with weight loss. I have high blood pressure, and I'm beginning to have a lot of trouble with mobility, my back, my hips, my knees, my ankles, and most of all my feet hurt so bad that walking is very painful. And I don't feel that is being put into the documents to provided to the insurance to express why this surgery is so necessary. What did you provided to your insurance company for your approval, I have United Health Care? Any feed back would be great? Thank you for letting me Rant Crystal. How Much Should I Lose?
circa replied to Aug2ndsleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
don't focus on a number necessarily. Those numbers were decided on by an insurance company, not a doctor. Yes, its important to be within a normal BMI range, but everyone's body is different. More muscle is going to up your weight but give you a lower bmi than if the mass you had was fat. You should be healthy and comfortable with your body. -

How Much Should I Lose?
mesaucedo replied to Aug2ndsleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am between 5'5" and 5'6" and my goal weight is 140, which is still in the high BMI range for me. I would like to be around 25% body fat. Last time I got my body fat checked in a hydrostatic weighing system I was around 58% body fat. I am more concerned about body fat/size than weight. I would be totally ok with weighing 170 but being a 6. I have a super biker friend who is like that. Muscle weighs more! -

Well, I've had my band for five years almost and I'm still a happy camper. Its never ever given me any trouble and never restricted me so much that I've been miserable and unable to eat in any given situation. I can always tackle something of what's on offer, i lost weight easily, I keep it off easily, I love love love my band. -
thanks i'm making it through one day at a time the main thing keeping me going is that in a little over a week i'm getting my band and starting my life fresh and soon i will lose the weight i've been dragging around my entire life:biggrin:

Hi all, My name is Christopher, I live and work in London, UK and was banded on 21st February 2007. My weight on the day of banding (which was my highest ever weight) was 445lbs, now almost 6 months later I have lost 94lbs and so weigh 351lbs. Having my band fitted was the single best thing I have ever done. My life feels like it is just beginning and I feel fitter than I ever have or ever thought I would. I go to the gym between 3 and 5 times a week and love exercise. I am a Registered Nurse by professional background but currently work in a mixed job, half of my time is spent working on my ward caring for terminally ill patients, the other half managing a project looking at service improvement within my organisation. I turn 25 in September and really feel that life is great and that I have a lot to look forward to. Don't get me wrong, I have never had great doubts in life being great and never had depressive tendencies but I just enjoy it all so much more now. I came accross this site through a friend on a similar site in the UK and thought it would be great to get/give support from people further afield than the UK. I have travelled quite extensively to the US in my childhood and early teens but have not been for about 6 years. I am travelling to New York in September of this year and am really looking forward to it, not least because it is the first time I will have flown since my op and I hope the flight will be much more comfortable, between now and flying I aim to lose another 20lb or so. It would be great to hear from other bandsters in the US (and indeed anywhere else in the world) and I am looking forward to spending more time on this site, both reading and posting. Chris.

Before you spend a fortune on equiptment try sneakers .. no weight limit to my knowledge. I had to do a major 12 pound "crash" 3 weeks prior to my preop liquids. If my weight wasn't down it was cancelled. Even the nutritionist was like no way .. just reschedule. Well it wasn't pretty but I got it done.

*putting on nurse hat* 10% weight loss is considered acute weight loss. In acute weight loss, the fat mostly comes off the internal organs, making laparoscopic surgery safer. Fat is slippery (think raw chicken breasts) and manipulating fatty organs leaves an increased risk for injury. Also, a fatty liver is friable (crumbles easily) and can be deadly. This is why my surgeon requires a 10% weight loss.... I can't speak for others. Hope that helps!

I have a Eliptical & love it! It cost $400 3 years ago. I love working at home. I put bands on the walls with hooks, fitness ball & stacking weights. That is all you need. Cheaper and more private than a gym. K

I've also read that losing 10% of your body weight does a number of things. It can bring down blood pressure, stress on heart and lungs. I also agree that some doctors want to see how focused and committed you are and realize that this takes work. So if you are willing to put in the work and lose 10% of your body weight you'll put in the work to succeed at surgery. Sheena :-)

Hi All, I just got my “welcome to the bariatric dept” letter and a denial letter on the same day. The denial said I don’t have a history of failed diets. My GP noted my failures specifically in my chart though. I’ve done so many diets, and Weight Watchers more times than I can count. I remember being on WW in my teens. My first prescription diet was early elementary school for G-d sake! Now I have to jump through appeal hoops. I have Kaiser (Oregon) via Medicare (I’m disabled). Any tips and encouragement is welcome!

I knew I would need new clothes... but new shoes??
Mim replied to emily_0192010's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
All my adult life, I was a size 6 shoe. When I got pregnant, my feet "grew" to a size 7 (swelling, excess weight pushing my arch down which lengthened my foot.) Since I continued to gain after my son was born, I stayed in a 7 for nearly 10 years. When I finally lost over 100 pounds with my Lapband, my feet settled back into a solid size 6-1/2. Hopefully, your feet won't change much more than 1/2 size, but I do remember throwing out at least 15 good pair of size 7 shoes! -
Apparently it's super common and then all of a sudden weight drops. Hang in there. . Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

Possibly worrying too much about how to tell others I've had VSG. What did you do?
harmonylynn replied to LeaninLanc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I spoke with my doctor about this same topic tgis week. She told me to play switch a roo when people asked about my weight loss....when someone asked...I could respond my saying yes I have been watching what I eat and exercising and then very quickly comment or ask them a question about them. I must admit I will have to practice that!! -
3 Year anniversery
Sharpie replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Terry so glad to see you are doing well. I am almost to my 3 year bandiversary as well . I come on the site to see how everyone is doing and I still have some struggles. The biggest problem I had this year was the illness and subsequent death of my husband. emotional eating is a difficult thing to overcome. I am still doing good too , gained a few lbs throughout my husband's hospital stays and hospice at the end. WE always seek comfort in food when we are emotionally at a low point. I still am happy that I made the choice to have lapband and I have lost some of the "comfort" weight since his death in October. My health is definitely better and I am much more active than before. Take Care and check in once in awhile. I miss some of the regulars that helped me so much in the beginning.
